设计说明 首先通过复习第三单元的青少年问题导入新课,然后用图片呈现生词,引入新课的学习,通过Hobo和Eddie的对话,提出本单元所涉及的话题,让大家对本单元产生兴趣。通过调查问卷,讨论如何了解世界,学习了解世界的途径,由此展开对话,最后通过练习来复习本课时的内容。 教学目标 通过本课时的教学,让学生达成以下目标: 1.知识目标 掌握单词和短语:time, whenever, through, deal, on one’s mind, as soon as, a great deal(of)。 2.能力目标 (1)了解认识世界的途径。 (2)学会谈论各自认识世界的途径。 (3)能够读懂有关认识世界的对话,并提取有效信息。 3.情感目标 通过学习,让学生了解在成长过程中会遇到各种问题或困难,培养他们寻求多种方式解决问题的能力。 重点难点 重点:学习生词和短语,并能灵活使用;学会谈论认识世界的途径。 难点:灵活使用生词和短语进行表达。 教学准备 PPT 课件;相关图片。 授课时数 1课时 教学过程 Step 1 Lead-in 1. Ask the students to talk about freely: What are teenage problems? What is your teenage problem? 2. The students can have different answers. Ask some of them to talk in front of the class. Step 2 Presentation 1. Show them a picture and present some new words.
—What is the boy’s problem? —He is not listening to the teacher carefully in class. —What is on his mind? —Playing computer games. 2. Ask and answer: T: What is on the man’s mind? Ss: His hometown. 3. Ask the students to talk in pairs. Step 3 Comic strip 1. Ask the students to listen and answer: (1) What is on Eddie’s mind? (2) Does Eddie want to grow up? (3) Will Eddie build his house by himself? Answers: (1) Growing up. (2) No, he doesn’t. (3) No. He asks Hobo to build it for him. 2. Read and act the dialogue. 3. Fill in the blanks. (1) Ask the students to complete the task individually. Eddie has something on his _______. He is worried that he’s growing too ________ for his house. Hobo advises him to _________ another one, but Eddie asks Hobo not to ________ him up until he ________ building the house. (2) Check the answers in groups. Then check them together. Answers: mind; big; build; wake; finishes (3) Ask some students to read the passage.
Step 4 Welcome to the unit 1. Do a survey: How do you learn about the world? (1)They may have different ideas. Ask them to work in groups and write down their ways. (2) Ask some groups to report and list them on the blackboard. 2. Listen to the dialogue and answer the questions. (1) How does Millie learn about the world? (2) How does Simon learn about the world? Answers: (1) From books. (2) Through the Internet. 3. Read the dialogue and answer the following questions. (1) Ask them to read it and find the answers individually. ①Why does Millie learn from books? ②Why does Simon like to learn about the world through the Internet? (2) Let them check the answers in pairs. (3) Ask some students to share their answers. (4) Check the answers together. Answers: ①Because books allow her to learn about people in different times and places, and she can read them whenever she wants to. ②Because it’s quick. As soon as he clicks the mouse, there’s a great deal of information. 4. Read and practice the dialogue in pairs. 5. Make up their own dialogues like the following. A: How do you learn about the world? B: I’d like to learn about the world… A: Why do you like to learn that way? B: … What about you? A: I like to learn about the world … B: Why? A: … Step 5 Language points 1. What’s on your mind, Eddie?在想什么呢,埃迪? on one’s mind 意为“挂在心上”。 Don’t bother him. He’s got a lot on his mind. 别打扰他了。他烦心事够多了。 Your health is always on your mother’s mind. 你的健康总挂在妈妈的心上。 【拓展】mind构成的短语: in one’s mind 在脑海里,keep… in mind 把……记在脑子里; make up one’s mind 下决心 2. Don’t wake me up until you finish building it. 直到你建好房子,你再叫醒我。 (1)not…until…意为“直到……才……”,表示句子(主句)的动作直到until所表示的时间才开始发生,句子(主句)的谓语动词常用非延续性动词。 You mustn’t eat anything until you see the doctor. 直到你看过医生才准你吃东西。 My father didn’t go to bed until I came back last night. 昨晚爸爸直到我回来才去睡觉。 (2)until/till…意为“直到……”,表示句子(主句)的动作延续到until/till所表示的时间才结束,句子(主句)谓语动词常用延续性动词。 My father waited for me until I came back last night. 昨晚爸爸一直等到我回来。 I waited for him until 3 o’clock. 我等他等到三点钟。 3. … and I can read them whenever I want to. ……并且每当我想读时,我随时可以阅读它们。 whenever意为“在任何……时候;无论何时”,作连词时可引导让步状语从句。类似的词还有whatever(无论什么),wherever(无论哪里),whoever(无论谁)等。 You can ask me for help whenever you are in trouble. 你无论何时陷入困境都可以叫我帮忙。 Whatever you say, I’ll believe you. 无论你说什么,我都相信你。 Whoever telephones, tell them I’m out. 不管是谁打电话,都说我出去了。 4. I like to learn about the world through the Internet. 我喜欢通过因特网了解世界。 through 介词,意为“以,凭借;穿过”。 He bought a flat through many years’ of hard work. 他经过多年的辛苦工作购买了一套公寓。 辨析:across, through, past与over 相同点:都可以作介词,都可以表示“穿过,通过”。 不同点:across强调“横过”,从物体表面的一边到另一边; through指“穿过;透过”,表示从物体内部空间穿过; past指“从旁边经过,走过”; over意为“越过”, 指从一边到另一边。 5. As soon as you click the mouse, there’s a great deal of information. 你一点击鼠标就有大量的信息。 (1) a great deal of意为“大量的”,修饰不可数名词。 It took a great deal of time and effort. 那花费了大量的时间和努力。 (2) information意为“信息”,是不可数名词。a piece of information意为“一则信息”。 I need some information about that school. 我需要有关那所学校的一些信息。 Step 6 Homework 1.
