    Unit 1  Know yourself Integrated skills & Study skills

    设计说明

    首先通过日常会话When were you born? 类似的问题导入新课,然后学习与出生有关的词汇,如:日历、农历、马年等,再引入中国的12生肖和外国的12个星座。在学生知晓了此类问题之后,进入课本上的听力内容。完成一系列的听力任务后,再根据此内容展开说的练习,让学生谈论自己的属相或星座与性格特征的关系。最后利用练习来复习巩固本节课知识。

    教学目标

    通过本课时的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    掌握单词和短语:lunar, calendar, represent, appear, fixed, cycle, powerful, lively, practical, loyal, divide, shape, animal sign, star sign, in all, divideinto

    2.能力目标

    听懂关于属相和星座的文章,学会谈论自己的性格。

    3.情感目标

    通过听说练习,培养学生良好的个人品质。

    重点难点

    重点:学习描述人物性格特征的词和短语,并能灵活使用。

    难点:谈论自己的性格及与属相或星座的关系。

    教学准备

    PPT 课件;相关图片。

    教学过程

    Step 1  Lead-in

    Ask a question “When were you born?”and talk about some daily topics about birth, like the date and the year of the birth.

    Step 2  Presentation

    1. Show students a calendar and present some new words, like lunar calendar, the Year of the Horse…

    2. Show students twelve animal signs and talk about the names and something like the animal signs.

    Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig

    3. Show them 12 star signs and talk about the star signs.

    Step 3  Listen and practice 

    1. Show A1. Read the sentences and make sure the students understand each of them.

    2. Ask them to read through the notes in A2 and complete some of the notes before listening.

    3. Listen to the tape twice and complete the notes.

    4. Check the answers.

    5. Listen again and finish A3. Then check the answers.

    Step 4  Speak up 

    1. Ask students to listen to the tape and fill in the table.

    Step 5  Study skills

    1. Tell them what skimming is and when we can use this kind of reading skill.

    Skimming means reading the text quickly to get the main idea.

    It is often used when we read newspapers, magazines, business and travel guides.

    2. Read the passage and learn to use the way of skimming.

    3. Check the answers.

      Answers: 1. It is about how your personality is formed.

      3. The environment, including your education, your experiences and

    the people around you, can change your personality.

    Step 6  Language points

    1. In western countries, a year is divided into a cycle of 412 star signs.

    在西方国家,一年被分成(412个星座的循环。

      divide… into… 意为“把……分成……”,其被动形式为:be divided into 被分成。

      He divided the apple into four pieces.他把苹果分成了四块。 

      A week is divided into seven days. 一周被分为7天。

    2. It is you who shape your life and your future.是你塑造了你的生活和未来。

     It is + 被强调的部分 + who/that +其他”是强调句型,用于加强语气。

    My brother goes to school by bike at seven.我哥哥七点骑自行车去上学。

    It is my brother who goes to school by bike at seven.(强调my brother

    It is by bike that my brother goes to school at seven. (强调上学的方式是骑自行车)

    It is at seven that my brother goes to school by bike.(强调时间是七点)

    3. It is said that people born in the Year of the Tiger are brave.

    据说虎年出生的人很勇敢。

    (1) It is said that...意为“据说……。类似的还有It is believed that…“人们相信……, It is reported that…“据报道……”。

    It is said that he has written another book. 据说他又写了一本书。

    It is reported that an earthquake happened last week.

    据报道上周发生了一场地震。

    (2) born in the Year of the Tiger 是过去分词短语作后置定语,修饰前面的名词people

    I like eating the fish cooked by my father.我喜欢吃我父亲做的鱼。
