    Lesson 2: A Visit to the Dentist

    设计说明

    首先,通过图片设置情景编写就医的对话,复习上节课的内容。接着,展示图片,以师生讨论图片的形式教学生词和表达,在跟读单词后,利用Let’s Do It! No.3 巩固词汇。然后,以听后回答问题的方式导入课文,通过读后匹配段意、读后判断正误、读后回答问题和听后找短语并翻译等环节渐次深入地学习课文;并叫学生根据思维导图复述课文。最后,谈论学生自己的就医经历。整个教学,由书面知识的学习运用过渡到对实际经历的表述,体现了“学以致用”的教学理念。

    教学目标

    通过本课节的教学,学生达成以下目标:

    1. 知识目标

    掌握单词:refuse, toothache, German

    接触单词:dentist, rotten, fortunately, headset, aching, wolf

    短语:go to the dentist, have no choice but to…, right away

    2. 能力目标

    (1)掌握有关害怕或恐惧的英语表达;

    (2)能用英语描述自己或他人的就医经历。

    3. 情感目标

    克服恐惧心理,勇敢大胆地面对挑战。

    重点难点

    1. 重点本节课重点单词、短语、句型。

    2. 难点能用英语描述自己或他人的就医经历。

    教学过程

    Step 1  Review

    Have a dialogue about seeing a doctor.

    Show the class two pictures and get the class to have a dialogue in pairs.

                               

            have a fever                     have a stomachache

    Then give the examples:

    Doctor: What’s wrong, young man?

    A: I feel cold.

    Doctor: Let me take your temperature. Oh, you have a fever.

    A: Is it serious?

    Doctor: Nothing serious.

    A: Need I take some medicine?

    Doctor: Yes. And you also need to have a rest and have a lot of hot water.

    A: Thank you, sir.

    Doctor: You’re welcome.

     

    Doctor: What’s the matter, young man?

    B: My stomach hurts.

    Doctor: What have you eaten these days?

    B: Junk food. I think I’ve eaten so much junk food.

    Doctor: Oh. You need to take an X-ray.

    B: OK.

    Doctor: You should have healthy food.

    B: Yes. I’ll not do that again.

    Doctor: Please come into the examination room. Oh, nothing serious.

    Take the medicine and have a good rest.

    B: Thank you, doctor.

    Doctor: No problem.

     

    Step 2  Presentation 

    1. Teach the new words dentist, toothache, rotten, aching and expressions go to the dentist by talking about the picture.

    T: Whats the man?

    Ss: Hes a dentist.

    T: Whats wrong with the woman?

    Ss: She has a toothache.

    T: Why does she have a toothache?

    Ss: Because a tooth is rotten.

    T: Yes. She has an aching tooth. What will you do if you have a toothache?

    Ss: Well go to the dentist.

    2. Teach the new words refuse, headset, wolf , German and sentence Fear makes the wolf bigger than he is. using pictures and talking.

    Teacher says: Have you heard an old German saying?

    Fear makes the wolf bigger than he is.恐惧让狼看起来更可怕

    3. Read the new words following the recording, and read the expressions alone.

      Then remember them.

      dentist牙医

    refuse拒绝

    toothache牙痛

    rotten腐烂的

    fortunately幸运地

    headset耳机

    aching疼痛的

    German德国的德国人,德语

      wolf

    go to the dentist 看牙医

    Step 3  Listening and answering

    Teacher says: Look at the girl. She is Wang Mei. Listen to the recording and answer the question.

    What’s wrong with Wang Mei this morning?

    Answers: She has a terrible toothache.

    Step 4  Reading

    1. Get the class to read this lesson and match each paragraph with its main idea.

    Answers: (above)

    2. Get the class to read the lesson and write true (T) or false (F).

     (1) Wang Mei was scared to see the dentist. (     )

    (2) Wang Mei showed great interest in everything at the dentist’s office. (    )

    (3) Dr. Hu asked Wang Mei to watch TV while she worked. (      )

    3. Get the class to read the lesson and answer the following questions.

    (1) How long has Wang Mei had the fear of going to the dentist?

    (3) Why were Wang Mei’s hands shaking at the dentist’s office?

    (4) What did Wang Mei think of Dr. Hu?

    (5) How did Dr. Hu do to help Wang Mei worry less?

    (6) Did Wang Mei’s aching tooth hurt while Dr. Hu was fixing it?

    (7) What does Wang Mei mainly want to tell us?

    Answers: (1) Since she was very young.

    (2) Because one of her teeth was probably rotten.

    (3) Because she was very scared.

    (4) Dr. Hu was very kind.

    (5) Dr. Hu gave Wang Mei a headset and let her listen to music while she worked.

    (6) No, it didn’t.

    (7) Fear makes the wolf bigger than he is.

    Step 5  Listening, finding and translating

    Get the class to listen to the recording and find the following phrases. Then translate them.

      go to the dentist看牙医

      want sb. to do sth. 想要某人做某事

      wake up醒来,叫醒

      have no choice but to do…别无选择,只能做……

      get to到达

      be difficult to stand难以站立

      right away立刻,马上

      tell sb. (not) to do sth.告诉某人(不)做某事

      not…at all本不

      on the way home在回家的路上

    Step 6  Practice

     Read the lesson and find the words that have the same meaning as the circled words.

    1. Jack invited her to the tea party, but she said no to his invitation.

    2. She’s had a pain in her tooth all day. 

    3. I was late, but luckily the train was late, too.

    4. The students complete the activities on their computers and wear their headphones to talk to their teacher.

    5. These bananas will go bad in a week.

    Step 7  Reading and retelling

    Get the class to read the lesson and then retell it according to the mind map.

    Step 8  Talking

     Work in pairs and talk about your experiences at a doctor’s office.

     Task tips:

    Do you still remember one of your visits to a doctor?

    Are you afraid of going to see a doctor?

    How do you overcome fear when you face a difficult situation?

    Step 9  Discussion

    Get the class to discuss how we should take care of our teeth?

    Example:

     Brush your teeth twice a day.

     Eat some soft food.

     Eat less hot food, cold food or hard food.

     Change your toothbrush牙刷often.

     Don’t eat sweets before sleeping.

     If you have a toothache, you should go to see a dentist.

    Step 10  Learning tip

      Explain the doctor.

    Step 11  Summary

    Sum up what weve learnt in this period with the class.

        He refused to go with me. 他拒绝和我一起去。

    2. I had no choice but to go with her. 我别无选择,只能跟去。

       have no choice but to do…别无选择,只能做……

       No one wanted to go with him, so he had no choice but to go alone.

       没有人想和他一起去,所以他别无选择,只能独自去。

       【注意】but此处用连词,意为除了,后接动词不定式。若but

       有实义动词do的某种形式,but后接省略to的动词不定式。

       I can do nothing but let him know. 我只能通知他。

     3. She saw right away that I was scared and told me not to worry.

       她立刻看出我很害怕,告诉我不要担心。

       right away 立刻,马上 其同义短语为:at once, in a minute/moment

       I’ll do it right away. 我立刻做。

     4. On the way home, Mum told me an old German saying…
