T: Boys and girls, do you like playing games? Ss: Yes, we do. T: Now we are going to do a guessing game. I’ll show some descriptions to you one by one. Tell me which country it is as quickly as you can. Show the descriptions on the screen one by one. 1. It is summer in the country when it is winter in China. 2. It is the largest English-speaking country in the southern part of the world. 3. The Olympic Games were held in a city of the country in 2000. S1: It is Australia. Discuss. Discuss Australia. Answer the questions. Use the pictures on the right and on the next page to help you. (1)Ask the students to read the three questions and then try to answer them with the help of the pictures. (2)Play the recording for students to listen to and then check their answers. Answers: 1 In Sydney. 2 Australia. 3 Ayers Rock, Sydney Opera House and the Great Barrier Reef. 2. Listen again and complete the sentences. Ask students to read the conversation in Activity 3 and then read the table.

Step 5 Careful reading 1. Answer the questions. (1)Tell students to read the questions carefully and try to answer them from memory. 1 What is Tony going to write about? 2 Why does Tony’s dad show his photos of Australia to Tony? 3 Who are the people in some of the photos? 4 Why do many Australians speak English? 5 What did Tony’s dad not like about Australia? (2)Let students read the conversation again and then check their answers. (3)Ask some students to say their answers in class. Read the conversation. (1)Ask the students to follow the recording to read the conversation. (2)Tell them to read the conversation on their own. (3)Encourage some students to read the conversation in different roles. Step 6 After reading Complete the passage with the correct form of the words and expression in the box.

They wear special hats that keep the flies away. 他们戴着使苍蝇远离的特殊的帽子。 keep在此作及物动词,意为“使保持(某种状态)”。keep sb. /sth. away意为“(使)避开;(使)不靠近”;keep away from...意为“远离……”。如: Please keep the child away from the barking dog. 请让孩子远离那只狂吠的狗。 He keeps away from liquor and tobacco. 他不沾烟酒。 3. That’s why they speak English. 那就是他们讲英语的原因。 That’s why...为常用句型,意为“那就是……的原因”。类似的结构有: That’s because...那是因为…… The reason why...is that... ……的理由是……(这是固定句型,why引导的是定语从句,that引导表语从句)

Think of a place you have visited. Make notes about the best things you have seen there. (1)Tell students to think of a place they have visited and note down where it is and what they liked about it.
