Dear teachers and fellow students;

   It’s my great honour to stand here and present a speech about the worrying situation of nearsightedness among Chinese students. Nowadays in China, huge numbers of students are near-sighted, college students included. Worse still, the tendency is still on the rise. So, it is high time we took immediate and proper measures right now.

   Here, I do appeal to you all to stick to the practice of eye exercises at least twice a day. Besides, don’t read in an environment where it is too dim or too bright. As you know, too much screen time contributes a lot to poor eyesight, so you’d better stay away from digital devices as well. Last of all, please remember to give your eyes a short rest between classes by looking afar outside.

   Take good care of the window of your heart, and you’re bound to enjoy a bright future.

Paragraph 1

At 10：35 am the doorbell rang and my father stood outside the door smiling, accompanied by a young man. I hugged my father tightly and affectionately. Enormously relieved, the young man told me that my father had lost his way while returning home after the morning walk. The only description he could provide was that my house was near the park and that the house was made of red bricks. With much effort, and in almost two hours searching, the young man was able to locate my house. He expressed great relief at getting my father home.

Paragraph 2
After knowing what had happened, I showed my appreciation of his kindness. I invited him

inside to join us for a cup of tea. The man refused politely and said sincerely that he felt so delighted

to have brought my father safely home to me that he did not require further thanks. Then he drove the car away without even sharing his name and I have not seen him again. This kind act has a lasting influence on me. I always give others a helping hand if possible, even so many years later
