In 2019, 53. 6mn tons of electronic (电子的)waste were produced worldwide. This pollutes the environment with clear ecological and human costs.
The root cause lies in customer habits. Across the developed world, people use electronics at an avoidably high rate. The average American smartphone lasts only 24. 7 months before being thrown out, and 26. 2 months in the EU.
Increasingly, many electronic devices (设备)only last a few years before being replaced, so more and more waste is being produced. By 2050, the world is expected to produce over 125mn tons. If we simply used our electronics for longer, such a large increase would easily be avoided.
However, customers are not the only ones in the wrong. Tech companies including Apple and Microsoft have been said to slow down their older devices on purpose to encourage people to buy new ones. Apple, as well as many of its competitors, has a system of “licensed service provision” which controls the shops to carry out repairs. Devices which could be fixed are thrown out.
Instead of updating new products so rapidly, tech groups must improve the quality and lifespans (寿命) of their devices. Governments can help by awarding producers with longer device lifespans and1 improving laws about the right-to-repair.
If customers are able to choose devices that last longer and repair those which are broken, their buying habits will push the world towards a brighter future. But for now, e-waste remains a huge problem to keep our environment clean and healthy.
28. What does paragraph 1 serve as?
A. An example.
B. An argument.
C. A reflection.
D. An introduction.
29. What can we learn about the causes of electronic waste?
A. The recycling system functions well.
B. Shops carried out good repair services.
C. Electronic devices are replaced rapidly.
D. Customers use electronics for a long time.
30. What solution does the author suggest?
A. New products should be updated rapidly.
B. Apple and Microsoft should be punished.
C. The price of electronics should be raised.
D. The device lifespans should be improved.
31. What is the text mainly about?
A. How to Manage Tech companies.
B. How to Reduce Electronic Waste.
C. How to Recycle Electronic Waste.
D. How to Produce More Electronics.
D

It’s hard not to get worked up emotionally (情绪化地)when you’re in a tense conversation. Your face turning red, you're losing the ability to think clearly. Your counterpart (对手)is likely to feel the same way. And the conversation turns into a battle. 36Here are several things you can do.
Breathe.
Simple mindfulness techniques can be your best friend in tense situations and none is more helpful than using your breath. So when you start getting tense, try to focus on breathing. Notice the feeling of air coming in and out of your lungs. 37 This will take your attention off the physical signs and keep you centered.
Focus on your body.
Sitting still can make the emotions build up rather than disappear. If you and your counterpart are seated at a table, you may feel it impolite to suddenly stand up. 38 For example, cross two fingers or place your feet firmly on the ground and notice what the floor feels like.
39
When you're feeling emotional, the attention you give your thoughts and feelings crowds your mind; there's no room to examine them. To keep yourself away from the feeling, label(贴标签)it. Call a thought a thought and an emotion an emotion. When you put that space between these emotions and you, it's easier to let them go.
Keep in mind that you're probably not the only one who's upset. Your counterpart is likely to express anger too. It's hard not to shout back when you're being attacked, but that's not going to help. 40
A. Pause the conversation.
B. Recognize your feelings.
C. Instead, you can do small physical things.
D. It can work in all kinds of stressful situations.
E. Feel it pass through your nose and down the back of your throat.
F. Luckily, it's possible to break this physical response and manage your emotions.

Dear Mike,
Sorry to learn that you don’t know whether to go to the gym or to the park to work out, so I’m writing to give you a helping hand.
You’d better work out in the park. For one thing, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery while you are working out. For another, you can pick up some wastes when you get into shape, which not only helps you keep healthy but also is of great significance to the environment.
I hope you will find my suggestions helpful.( 87 words)

第二节(满分25分)
Then Garrone, moved to pity for poor Crossi, rose abruptly and said, resolutely, “It was I.”
The master looked at him for a while, then said in a calm voice, “It was not you.” Garrone looked at the teacher , not saying a word. Everyone in the classroom was silent. And, after a moment, the master said: “ Whoever did it shall not be punished. Let him rise!”Crossi rose slowly and said, weeping, “They were striking me and insulting me, and I lost my head, and threw it.”“Sit down,” said the master. “Let those who did it rise.”
Then the four boys stood up , and hung their heads.“You,” said the master, “have insulted a classmate of your own . You have played tricks on an unfortunate boy. You have struck a weak person who could not defend himself. Don’t you think it one of the most shameful acts ?”Having said this, he came down among the benches, put his hand under Garrone’s head, looked him straight in the eye, and said to him, “You are a noble soul.”Garrone took the chance to whisper some words in the ear of the master, and the master , turning towards Crossi, said: “I forgive you.”

M: Yeah, he’s probably the most ambitious student in my class.
W: And how about you? I mean how did you do on the test?
M: Uh … can we talk about something else? Ah, it’s almost summer vacation time … I can’t wait to take a break from studying and do something interesting! How about you?
W: Well, I’m not really going to take a break. I’m going to take a business class over the summer. And I’m going to work part-time at my uncle’s company to get some experience.
M: More classes and work? Why don’t you just relax and take it easy this summer?
W: I really want to be successful in the future. You know, I’m serious about my future. How about you? Don’t you ever think about your future?
M: Sure, I do. But this summer I’m just going to take it easy.

(Text 10)
W: When I talk about the time when I was a girl, young people always think that life used to be very hard. But it wasn’t bad really. It was just different and in many ways I think life was better in the past.
Children used to play in the street. They can’t do that now in most places, because everyone’s got a car so there’s too much traffic, and it’s dangerous. Today’s children spend all their free time indoors.
And when I was a girl most people didn’t use to lock their doors. We didn’t have anything for others to steal, so it wasn’t a problem.
Of course, we didn’t have a lot of the things that we have today, like computers and mobile phones. But life used to be slower and simpler. People didn’t use to rush around like they do today. The best thing about the time when I was young was that people used to spend more time together. Nowadays, people spend all their time in front of a computer screen or a television, or on their mobile phones. Yes, in some ways I think life was better when I was young.
