(2022·云南曲靖·校联考一模)When the sun comes up over the castle of Rocca Calascio, a small mountain village high up in the Italian Apennines, it’s like a silent, magic wonderland. One such sunrise struck Franco Cagnoli with an inside calling that led him to go on a mission that affected both the village and him deeply.
Rocca Calascio has seen no resident since 1957. Depopulation of rural or mountain villages in Italy began in the early 20th century, accelerating (加速) after World War Two when people were attracted to urban jobs.
However, like many places, the area is enjoying a revival (复苏) and now home to some families. “To put it in romantic terms, there is a love story between me and the ancient building,” Cagnoli said as he showed visitors round the castle of Rocca Calascio. The castle, with foundations dating back about 1,000 years, is one of the highest in Europe. It was built as a tower in a line of connected structures to control and protect the land that stretched inland from the Adriatic Sea.
Cagnoli, now 39, first saw Rocca Calascio when he was 16. He was on a road trip to find himself. “I arrived here as the morning sun lit up the castle. I was blinded by the light and since that day something inside me has changed,” he said. “I thought it was the most beautiful place. I felt special energies, deciding to help its rebirth.” He’s now the castle’s caretaker and head of a cooperative whose members guide visitors.
“Besides temporary visitors, the complete revival has much to do with permanent residents. People of the previous generation didn’t appreciate the land they lived on,” Valeria Befani, a resident in the village, said. “Today’s teenagers, like my children, are proud of their land and are happy if they can stay here.”

(2022秋·广西柳州·高三桂林十八中统考一模)I loaded The Ledger in the metal basket of my bicycle I called my tank. Balloon tires(低压轮胎)mobilized the red-black heavy bike I had found on a roadside left for the garbage man. In those days, the papers had to be left on the steps. Some customers requested I put them between the storm door and the front wooden door.
Saturday was collection day. When I knocked on the door, I never knew what I was going to get. Old man Kusek shouted out of the back of his kitchen. “I’ll pay you next week.” I made a note on his card that this was the fifth week in a row he had shouted those same words.
Every week I had cold feet about charging for the newspapers at Mr. Schaefer’s house. As soon as I took the first step up, two German Shepherd dogs bolted(突然快跑)against the screen door. Their barking always pushed me one step back from the door. “Don’t worry. They won’t hurt you,” a voice shouted from inside the house. Mr. Schaefer came to the door to pay his bill with a dollar clenched(咬紧)between his teeth while he held each dog by their collar. Grabbing the money from his mouth. I turned and ran, thinking those fierce dogs were going to break free and eat me alive.
Every two weeks, Mr. Kloch from The Ledger would come to collect the money. After I paid the amount, the rest was mine. Counting the change was the fun part to see how much money I’d made.
My first job as a paperboy taught me about managing money, serving customers, and accepting responsibility. I remember the time when I was in a grocery store with my mother. (2023春·四川成都·高三成都七中校考开学考试)Anton was thrilled about his new job as an intern for his favorite director, Selma Honor. Seeing her documentary about race-car drivers had convinced Anton that he wanted to be a filmmaker. Getting the call from Selma’s assistant had been the thrill of a lifetime.
Being on the set turned out to be quite different from what Anton had expected. He had imagined he would be standing behind Selma, watching her make crucial decisions during filming. Instead, the assistant director, Joe, had given Anton a box of index cards to place in alphabetical order, which is what Anton was doing in the gym when Selma arrived. She looked around quickly and said, “What’s that kid doing in the shot? Get him out of here.” Joe hurried over and told Anton to finish his work in the hallway.

Joe’s bright red shirt gave Anton an idea.
Four hours later, the crowd was divided into two halves. All of the fans for the home team wore red shirts; all of the fans for the away team wore gray shirts. (2023秋·内蒙古包头·高三统考一模)As introduction to backpacking go, this might be pushing it. At noon on a brilliant Tuesday in March, my 12-year-old son Kai and I are a mile and a half into a four-day, 27-mile walk through the Grand Canyon (峡谷) — his first backpacking trip — when he asks, “Are we almost to camp?” Um, no. Camp, at Hermit Creek, is seven miles and nearly 2,500 feet below. That will take us several more hours.
We are here largely because of a birthday note Kai wrote to me two years ago in which he declared, “You used to be a wild 10-year-old like me and now you’re a wild 53-year-old. We can do so many things together! I am excited for when I’m old enough for the Grand Canyon.”
There are, I suppose, dads who could resist that, just as there are fathers who would plan an experience-appropriate trip for their sons. I am neither, so here we are. Never mind that; aside from simply being 12, Kai has done almost nothing to physically prepare for this. Or that I haven’t backpacked for 13 years.
We go down a poorly maintained path off the canyon with twisty trees and twining bushes. Gradually the view broadens, the landscape in Vishnu fascinates Kai greatly. “This place is amazing.” he says. Nightfall in the canyon can be magical. Darkness surrounds us, pressed by cool air. Hearing the sound of a waterfall, we lie down to take in the stars. Twice I suggest we turn in. “Not yet,” Kai says. “This is too unbelievable.”
Wednesday, we travel three miles to Monument Creek, and hike a mile and 1,000 feet down to the Colorado River. The next morning at 7:30 when we march out, I’m optimistic, and Kai sets a quick pace. Friday, we rise before dawn and are the first ones out of camp; for an hour we have the Bright Angel Trail and its soaring (高耸的) scenery to ourselves.
In that birthday card Kai had also written, “Even when you’re 100, you will always be wild,” Nice, If I’m lucky enough to make it there, it looks like I’ll have company.

(2022秋·宁夏银川·高三银川一中校考一模)24 years ago Jim Ritter was a typical, active high school student. At age sixteen his life changed forever, when Jim was working at his father’s logging business in the small town of Montesano, Washington. One Friday, his dad woke him at 4:30 am to work. Having finished the morning work, Jim crawled into the grapple (吊车) for an after-lunch nap. It was then that Jim’s father started the engines, not realizing that his son lay inside, asleep.
“Oh my God!” Jim’s father cried out. “I broke his neck!”
Immediately, Jim’s dad called for help on the C.B radio. A logging company helicopter heard the call for help and picked Jim up, taking him to the hospital in Olympia, sixty-five miles away. It was truly a miracle! His father’s logging business was in the middle of nowhere, and helicopters hardly ever flew around there. After surgery, Jim was left paralyzed from the neck down. Nine weeks later, he was moved to an orthopedic (矫形的) hospital in Seattle where he became an inspiration to the nurses and other patients with his optimism and good sense of humor.

It was awkward and difficult at first. Jim practiced day after day, and gradually his drawings turned from amateur sketches into beautiful scenes. Prior to the accident, Jim had never drawn.
Today, Jim lets nothing stand in his way. He is able to support himself by holding art shows throughout the country. (2018·宁夏银川·统考三模)I was never very neat, while my roommate Kate was extremely organized. Each of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other.
War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming, “Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!” Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder.
The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute if it had not been for a phone call. Kate answered it. She was watching, her tears dried and her expression one of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to catch mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me, “Thanks.”

(2023·新疆乌鲁木齐·统考一模)My grandfather used to be the smartest person in the world. I am sure he was. There was nothing he could not explain or narrate to me. When I lost my sight being only six years old, he was the one who supported my connection with the whole world. He was doing it with his tales.
My grandfather was the one who did not allow me to give up. Grandfather supported my memory and boosted my imagination every day. He was narrating fairy stories about everything around us. He made me describe the things that I used to see previously in detail and then told something about them I could not believe.
I remember he gave me his knife. I was careful with it, as it was sharp — my grandfather carved figures and household items with it. I was holding it and trying to restore its look in my memory, and grandfather was telling a story of the knife. He told me that having this knife, he was never wounded in a battle, and he could carve any figure in detail with it. He promised that one day I would get it, and I would be able to carve anything. I touched the blade (刀刃) with my fingers, and I imagined how great I would be in carving. I wanted to make the magic creatures that were mentioned by my grandfather and present them to him.
He made me walk a lot, we were researching the hills and fields, and he taught me how to define the flowers and trees. Being blind, I could find any local plant by smelling and touching. Grandfather promised that one day we would hike together and find real highland edelweiss.
He died a month before I had my operation. When the bandage was taken off my eyes, I saw the faces of parents, sun, flowers and trees, and a knife left by my grandfather. Later, when my sight became stable and it became possible to read, my father gave me a book of tales written and illustrated by my grandfather. There were all the creatures he was talking about. (2023春·河南·高三校联考一模)Being a high school coach provides wonderful opportunities not only to seek great skill from students in sports, but also to implant in them some valuable life lessons. Donta Green, a committed coach at Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvanian has brought his school team to victory. While part of this is down to physical fitness and practice, an improved general attitude has also played a key role in the team’s success.
One way Green has changed his players’ behaviors is a strict no-bad-words rule. This applies to players and coaches alike. If anyone uses bad language then they can expect to start doing push ups. In another way, the coach is also addressing the way the high school students dress. No students are to be seen wearing trousers hanging too low and players should walk the corridors of the school in suit and tie.
This is having a positive effect on the students and their academic success, with the team grade average being 3. 2. These changes are really affecting the way the players see themselves. As Keyshawn Morsillo, the team’s star quarterback, pointed out: “He’s changed us. Everyone on the football team used to have some bad behaviors. But he has showed us the right way to be a successful man. We look up at him and follow his footsteps. Really, he’s helping turn us from boys to men.”
This is impacting the general altitude for these students not just in the school, but how they’re perceived in the wider community, too.
“A lot of the things we do might seem like small things, but they add up to big things. There are things we do that set us apart from other programs. It’s just a lot of simple disciplines. That’s what is lacking in a lot of our young people.” pointed out Green.
While the team continues to impress, it’s important to take note on how these small steps can inspire others. We can strengthen in our own children the importance of behaving appropriately.
37.Why did Donta Green try to change his plavers’ behavors?
A.To promote their overall quality.
B.To achieve their academic success.
C.To improve their communicative skills.
D.To focus their mind on physical training.
38.What is the students’ attitude to the extra disciplines in the team?
A.Negative. B.Skeptical. C.Indifferent. D.Supportive.
39.What do Green’s words mean in paragraph 5?
A.Young people don’t have right attitude to life.
B.Children’s daily behaviors should be regulated.
C.All the students in his school behave themselves.
D.Disciplines are more important than skills
40.What is the text mainly about?

结合文章第一段内容“When the sun comes up over the castle of Rocca Calascio, a small mountain village high up in the Italian Apennines, it’s like a silent, magic wonderland. One such sunrise struck Franco Cagnoli with a spiritual calling that led him to go on a mission that affected both the village and him deeply.(当太阳从意大利亚平宁山脉高处的小山村罗卡·卡拉西奥城堡上空升起时,这里就像一个寂静而神奇的仙境。一次这样的日出给了弗兰科·卡格诺利一种精神上的召唤,促使他去执行一项对村庄和他自己都产生了深刻影响的使命。)”和倒数第二段中Franco Cagnoli的话““I arrived here as the morning sun lit up the castle. I was blinded by the light and since that day something inside me has changed,” he said. “I thought it was the most beautiful place. I felt special energies, deciding to help its rebirth.”(“我到达这里时,早晨的阳光照亮了城堡。从那天起,我的内心发生了变化。”他说,“我认为这是最美丽的地方。我感受到了特殊的能量,决定帮助它重生。”)” 可知,第一段中的“a mission that affected both the village and him deeply(这个使命深深地影响了村子和他自己)”指帮助复兴罗卡卡拉西奥。
根据第二段的“Depopulation of rural or mountain villages in Italy began with the resettlement of villagers in the early 20th century, accelerating after World War Two when people were attracted to urban jobs.(20世纪初,随着村民的重新安置,意大利农村或山村的人口减少开始了。二战后,人们被吸引到城市工作,这一现象加速。)”可知,20世纪,早期意大利的乡村和山村人口剧减,第二次世界大战后,许多人离开了农村地区前往城市,人口减少加剧。故选C。
3.细节理解题。根据第三段的“It was built as a tower in a line of connected structures to control and protect the land that stretched inland from the Adriatic Sea.(它是作为一排连接的建筑中的一座塔,用来控制和保护从亚得里亚海延伸到内陆的土地。)” 故选A。
根据最后一段的内容““Besides temporary visitors, the complete revival has much to do with permanent residents. People of the previous generation didn’t appreciate the land they lived on,” Valeria Befani, a resident in the village, said. “Today’s teenagers, like my children, are proud of their land and are happy if they can stay here.”(“除了临时游客,完全的复兴与永久居民有很大关系。
5.A 6.C 7.B 8.C
根据第一段中的“I loaded The Ledger in the metal basket of my bicycle I called my tank. Balloon tires mobilized the red-black heavy bike I had found on a roadside left for the garbage man.”(我把The Ledger装进我的自行车的金属篮子里,我称之为坦克。 故选A项。
根据第二段中““I’ll pay you next week.” I made a note on his card that this was the fifth week in a row he had shouted those same words.”(“我下周给你钱。”
根据第三段中的“two German Shepherd dogs…barking always pushed me one step back from the door Grabbing the money from his mouth, I turned and ran, thinking those fierce dogs were going to break free and eat me alive.”(两只德国牧羊犬……
根据最后一段中的“My first job as a paperboy taught me about managing money, serving customers, and accepting responsibility.”(我做报童的第一份工作教会了我如何理财、服务客户和承担责任。”)和“I felt proud at that moment and I still do today.”(那一刻我感到骄傲,今天我依然如此。)

根据文章第四段“Seeing these special families and special children, I realized the importance of Fural education, and it is one of the major reasons why I have stuck around all these years, ” says Cheng, who also grew up in Poyang.(“看到这些特殊的家庭和特殊的孩子,我意识到农村教育的重要性,这也是我这些年坚持在这里的主要原因之一,”同样在鄱阳长大的程说。)” 故选A项。
根据文章第五段“After learning that one of her students, Tan Yeting, and her brother were just scraping by on the low income of their grandparents5 handmade broom business, Cheng would pay regular visits to Tan’s home.(在得知她的一个学生谭叶婷和她的弟弟靠他们祖父母做的手工扫帚生意的微薄收入scraping by on后,程会定期去谭叶婷家拜访。)”
根据文章第四段““Seeing these special families and special children, I realized the importance of Fural education, and it is one of the major reasons why I have stuck around all these years, ” says Cheng, who also grew up in Poyang.(“看到这些特殊的家庭和特殊的孩子,我意识到农村教育的重要性,这也是我这些年坚持在这里的主要原因之一,”同样在鄱阳长大的程说。)”以及文章最后一段“Thanks to her efforts, approximately 200 children in the neighborhood have been able to enjoy better education.(由于她的努力,附近大约200名孩子已经能够享受更好的教育。)”
根据文章第一段“Cheng Feng is a teacher in a rural primary school. Yet, to many of her students, the 33-year-old is more than that. Cheng’s care for her rural students has extended beyond the classroom and makes her a mother figure to them all.(程风是一所农村小学的老师。然而,对她的许多学生来说,33岁的她不仅仅是这样。程风对农村学生的关心已经超越了课堂,让她成为了孩子们的母亲。)”以及文章其他段落的内容可知文章主要讲的是乡村教师程风投身于乡村教育的感人故事,所以D项A devoted rural educator(一位有献身精神的农村教育工作者)最能够概括文章的主要内容。故选D项。

14.细节理解题。根据第三段“Joe’s bright red shirt gave Anton an idea. (Joe的亮红色衬衫给了Anton一个主意。)”可知,Joe意外地启发了安东。故选B。

She winked at Anton.
根据第二段“He had imagined he would be standing behind Selma, watching her make crucial decisions during filming. Instead, the assistant director, Joe, had given Anton a box of index cards to place in alphabetical order, which is what Anton was doing in the gym when Selma arrived. She looked around quickly and said, “What’s that kid doing in the shot? Get him out of here.” Joe hurried over and told Anton to finish his work in the hallway.(他原以为自己会站在Selma身后,看着她在拍摄过程中做出关键的决定。相反,副导演乔给了Anton一盒索引卡,让他按字母顺序排列,Selma来的时候Anton正在体育馆做这个。她迅速环顾四周说:“镜头里的那个孩子在做什么?把他带出去。”Joe赶紧走过去,让Anton在走廊里完成他的工作。)”和最后一段“She winked at Anton. He trailed behind her—once again certain that he had the best job in the world.(她向Anton挤眉弄眼。他跟在她后面——再一次确信他拥有世界上最好的工作。)”可知,刚开始Anton没有得到Selma Honor的重视,但是后来Selma Honor觉得Anton的主意很不错,对他很满意,因此文章的一个主题是失望通常都是暂时的。故选B。

We can do so many things together! I am excited for when I’m old enough for the Grand Canyon.”(我们今天在这里,很大程度上是因为Kai两年前写给我的一张生日纸条,他在信中说:“你过去和我一样是一个狂野的10岁孩子,现在你是一个狂野的53岁老人。
根据第三段“There are, I suppose, dads who could resist that, just as there are fathers who would plan an experience-appropriate trip for their sons. I am neither, so here we are. Never mind that; aside from simply being 12, Kai has done almost nothing to physically prepare for this. Or that I haven’t backpacked for 13 years. (我想,有些父亲会拒绝这样做,就像有些父亲会为儿子计划一次适合他们体验的旅行一样。我都不是,所以就这样了。没关系;除了12岁,Kai几乎没有做任何身体上的准备。或者我已经13年没背包了)” 以及最后一段中儿子写给父亲的生日便条“Even when you’re 100, you will always be wild.(即使你100岁了,你也会很狂野)”可推断,作者热衷于迎接挑战。故选A。

根据第一段关键句“One Friday, his dad woke him at 4:30 am to work. Having finished the morning work, Jim crawled into the grapple (吊车) for an after-lunch nap. It was then that Jim’s father started the engines, not realizing that his son lay inside, asleep.”(一个星期五,他爸爸早上4:30叫醒他去上班。 Jim’s father cried out. “I broke his neck!””(“哦,我的上帝!” 故选A项。
根据画线短语上文“A logging company helicopter heard the call for help and picked Jim up, taking him to the hospital in Olympia, sixty-five miles away.”(一架伐木公司的直升机听到求救声,把吉姆接了起来,把他送到65英里外的奥林匹亚的医院。)
根据第四段中“However, having been shown a video in which a paralyzed girl was drawing by holding a pen between her teeth, Jim decided to give it a try: If that girl could do it, so could he!”(然而,吉姆观看了一段视频,视频中一名瘫痪女孩用牙齿夹住一支笔画画,吉姆决定试一试:如果那个女孩能做到,他也能做到!)

根据第三段的“From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly climbed up the bed into her covers, sobbing. Clearly, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart.(从她的谈话中,我立刻就知道她奶奶病得很重。挂断电话后,她迅速爬上被窝,抽泣着。显然,这是她不应该独自经历的事情。突然,一种温暖的同情之情在我心中升起。)”及第四段的“Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side.(慢慢地,我收好了铅笔,拿回了书,整理了我的床,擦了袜子,扫了地板,甚至在她旁边。)”
根据第一段的“I was never very neat, while my roommate Kate was extremely organized. Each of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier.(我从来都不是很爱整洁,而我的室友凯特却非常有条理。她的每件东西都有它的位置,但我的总是藏在某个地方。她甚至给所有东西都贴上了标签。我总是在寻找一切。随着时间的推移,凯特变得更整洁,而我变得更乱。)”可知,第一段主要讲的是作者和凯特之间在收拾房间方面的差异,因此第一段主要是通过显示差异展开的。故选B。
32.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是最后一段的“Kate and I stayed roommates for the rest of the year. We didn’t always agree, but we learned the key to living together: giving in, cleaning up and holding on.(那一年剩下的时间,凯特和我一直是室友。我们并不总是意见一致,但我们学会了生活在一起的关键:让步、打扫卫生和坚持下去。)”可知,作者通过讲述作者和凯特之间从在收拾房间方面差异很大到作者做出让步,学会收拾房间来说明我们要通过让步、打扫卫生和坚持下去来学会做个好室友,因此D选项“Learning to Be Roommates(学习做室友)”是最好的题目,故选D。

Being blind, I could find any local plant by smelling and touching.(他让我走很多路,我们在研究山丘和田野,他教我如何定义花草树木。
