Qian Xuesen is a world-famous expert on aerospace(航天航空) rockets and aerodynamics. He achieved great success in many areas of science and made important contributions to the foundation and development of the Chinese aerospace industry.
After graduating from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1934, Qian Xuesen went to America to study in MIT one year later. After receiving a master’s degree there, he went to study in California Institute of Technology and received PhD degrees in both aerospace and mathematics.
In 1955, Qian Xuesen returned to his motherland no matter how many difficulties he had to face. His return brought China the hope of developing space science and its own missiles(导弹).
In 1956, he put forward a plan to protect the country through developing aviation(航空) industry. With the support from the Premier Zhou Enlai, Qian Xuesen began to prepare to set up China’s first missile and rocket research and development structure, the Fifth Research Institute of State Ministry of Defense. From then on, he has long been in charge of the chief technological research and development of China’s missile, rocket and spacecraft.
China successfully set off its first atom bomb in 1964. Later, China launched its first man-made satellite on April 24, 1970, becoming the country to independently launch satellite following the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the USA, France and Japan.
As a forerunner of China’s aerospace science and technology, Qian provided chances for young scientists. Wang Yongzhi, former chief designer of China’s manned-space project, has learnt a lot from Qian. “He suggested that rocket of the second generation should be developed by our second generation scientists. This gave us chances to be general designers”. Thinking of the experience working with Qian, Sun Jiadong, general designer of China’s lunar orbiter project, is grateful. “He put great expectation on us and trusted us a lot. Whenever we made mistakes, he seldom blamed us but helped find out the reason so we could avoid it in the future.”
Considered as Father of Missile and King of Rockets, Qian retired in the year before Chinese manned space program was launched in 1992, but he never stopped his work on scientific research after retirement. He said he had no time to review the past, but looked forward to the future. On October 31st, 2009, Qian Xuesen passed away in Beijing at the age of 98.
26.According to the passage, which of the following about Qian Xuesen is true?
A.He returned to China easily with the technologies of space science.
B.He went abroad for further study and got his master’s degree in MIT.
C.He worked for the development of China’s fifth missile and rocket.
D.He made China the fourth country to independently launch satellite.

Traveling between Earth and space in an elevator (电梯), moving Earth away from the sun with huge engines . . . If you have watched the sci-fi blockbuster (大片) The Wandering Earth II, you must have been wowed by these amazing technologies. How far are these imaginative ideas from reality? Could we really achieve these things someday? Let’s take a look.
    ● Earth engines
In the movie, the sun is becoming bigger and will “eat” Earth. People plan to build tens of thousands of engines on Earth in order to push it away from the sun. The energy will come from a nuclear fusion reaction Would this be possible?
Wang Teng at the Chinese Academy of Sciences told Xinhua that in theory (理论上), nuclear fusion is powerful enough to move Earth. According to Wang, controllable nuclear fusion is one of the key problems scientists all over the world are working on. In the reaction, two atoms (原子) join into a heavier one, which creates a great amount of energy. It’s the same energy that powers the sun and other stars.
In December 2022, US scientists made a big breakthrough (突破). For the first time in history, they made a nuclear fusion reaction that produced more energy than it cost. Although the energy gain (获得) was not much—only enough for boiling about 9.5 liters of water, scientists are positive they could use this reaction to produce clean energy in the future.
    ● Space elevators
The space elevators in the movie look really cool. They travel fast between cables that connect Earth and the space station. According to Wang Yuanzhuo from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, this idea first came from Russian scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky in 1895 after seeing the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The basic idea for space elevators is to connect one end of the cable to Earth and the other end to a space station that flies at the same speed Earth rotates (旋转). But the challenge, as experts told Xinhua, is to find the right material for the cables. A carbon nanotube (碳纳米管) might work. A short tube of 1.6 grams can hold more than 800 tons, which is about 160 elephants. Since its discovery in 1991, scientists have been trying to create a tube that is as long as possible. But the longest tube was only about half a meter, developed by a team at Tsinghua University in 2013.
If we can bring the design into reality, space elevators can save lots of energy and money compared with rockets. It will also make our trip to space a lot easier.
    30.According to Wang Teng, ________.
A.moving Earth with engines is impossible in theory
B.nuclear fusion is still uncontrollable so far
C.the number of engines needed to move Earth is unpredictable
D.moving the sun and other stars is possible in theory
31.What was the big breakthrough in nuclear fusion reaction in late 2022?
A.It produced more energy than it cost.
B.It produced 9.5 liters of water.
C.It proved the safety of a nuclear fusion reaction.
D.It produced the cleanest energy all over the world.
32.Which are necessary for building a space elevator?
    a. The space elevator should be made of carbon nanotube.
    b. The cable that connects Earth and the space station is long enough.
    c. The space station flies at the same speed Earth rotates.
    d. The cable that connects Earth and the space station is strong enough.
    A.abc B.abd C.acd D.bcd
33.What can we infer from the technologies in the movie?
A.High technologies have dark sides as well.
    B.Environmental problems should be noticed.
C.Sci-fi works are not all about imagination.
D.They cannot be achieved even in theory.
    (C)
What goes into mind when you think of kung fu, also known as wushu? Maybe the image of Shaolin monks fighting with a serious look in their eyes, or popular children’s movies like Kung Fu Panda. But are they really kung fu?
Recently, Laurence J. Brahm, a documentary filmmaker from the United States, explored this question in Searching for Kung Fu. In the movie, Brahm began a journey of a kung fu pilgrimage(朝圣), traveling to cities in China and the US to search for the origin(起源) and value of kung fu.
Brahm himself is a kung fu lover who has been practicing for more than 40 years. For him, practicing this craft was more than fun.
Around 10 years ago, Brahm was unable to use one of his legs for about two years. But by practicing martial arts (武术) “very, very slowly”, he was able to recover step by step. Now, kung fu has become a daily activity for him.
“Martial arts can help us connect our body, connect our blood flow, and also help connect us into our environment to increase our awareness.” Brahm said.
Still others find other meanings in the practice.
“Chinese kung fu is full of Chinese philosophies(哲学)and core(核心)values,” Hong Kong actor Bruce Leung told Xinhua.
⑧Non-fight is one of these values, which is shown both in the name and the practice. Wu, is made up of two characters—age, meaning “dagger-ax”, and zhi, meaning “to stop”. So, the meaning of kung fu in Chinese is the art of stopping fighting. Kung fu artists always end up with baoquan. This lets each person know that there is nothing hidden and shows trust.
Brahm’s sees Kung fu as “a mirror of Chinese culture”.
The traditional values of kung fu, actually, are in the minds of all Chinese people. Why does China want to be in harmony with other nations? “Its part of the psychology(心理) of the Chinese people. It’s also national psychology.” Brahm told Xinhua.
Bralm also believes that today’s world needs to restart equal exchanges between countries, and that culture and sports, such as kung fu, can serve as a great channel and bridge.
34.What does Laurence J. Brahm explore in Searching for kung Fu?
A.Styles of kung fu. B.People’s impressions of kung fu.
C.Functions of kung fu. D.The history and meaning of kung fu.
35.Which of the following would Brahm agree with about kung fu except ________?
A.It’s a way to kill time. B.It’s a way to make money.
C.It’s a way to stay healthy. D.It’s a way to keep awake.
36.The purpose of Paragraph ⑧ is to explain ________.
A.the core value of Chinese kung fu B.the history of Chinese kung fu
C.the structure of the Chinese word “wu” D.the beginning movement in kung fu
37.Which of the following proves kung fu is “a mirror of Chinese culture”?
A.It influences China’s policy about sports.
B.It can spread Chinese culture worldwide.
C.It shows the importance of Chinese culture.
D.Its values are seen in China’s attitude(态度)to other countries.

根据空后“because it’s a strange place to find leaves”可知在温迪卧室的地板上发现树叶这一现象很奇怪,所以令人感到惊讶。故选C。
It’s Peter again! He is a naughty boy! He never cleans his feet.” 故选A。
    put up举起,张贴;wake up醒来;give up放弃;stand up站起来。结合语境和下文“Perhaps Peter Pan comes to the house in Wendy’s dreams.”
根据上文“I think Peter comes in through the window…”和“But the window is upstairs, my dear!”

根据上文温迪的话“But the leaves are near the window”和后一句“The leaves are very near the window.”
根据上下文“Perhaps Peter Pan comes to the house in Wendy’s dreams.”和“They are real. And it’s true. Wendy isn’t dreaming.”

    blows open吹开;blows shut吹关上了;breaks up打碎;breaks down出故障。 故选A。

What will our city be like in 2050? I think it will be quite different from now. The living environment will be greatly improved in the following ways.
The houses will be both green and smart. Everything will be made by environmental-friendly materials. What’s more, the house will be connected to the shops and hospitals so that you can order all kinds of services without going out. Most of the time people will work at home and they will have fewer working hours because of new technologies. If you want to go travelling, there will be no traffic jam at all. You can take different kinds of transportations, such as the flying buses: and the driverless cars. The most exciting thing for students will be the widely use of E-books and VR technology at school.
