Envirnmental cnditins experienced by parent plants can influence ffspring perfrmance thrugh parental effects induced ( 感应的) by DNA. The ffspring can als be influenced by envirnmental cnditins experienced by their parents via sil legacy (遗产) effects due t changes in the cmpsitin f sil.
We cnducted a tw-phase experiment with five gentypes (基因型) f a clnal plant. In the first phase, we grew parent plants f each gentype under tw light cnditins and tw DNA treatments. We then cllected sils and clnal ffspring fr each gentype frm each f these fur treatments and measured sil prperties. In the secnd phase, we grew the ffspring frm each f the fur treatments in the fur different sils, under the tw light
cnditins.
When grwn under envirnmental light cnditin and in sil frm envirnmental parents, ffspring prduced by envirnmental parents grew larger than ffspring prduced by shaded parents when the parents were treated with water. This difference was smaller when the parents were treated with 5-azaC, and disappeared when the ffspring were grwn in sil frm shaded parents. The grwth difference was als bserved when the ffspring were grwn under shaded cnditin and in sil frm shaded parents. Hwever, this difference was greater when the parents were treated with 5-azaC, and disappeared when the ffspring were grwn in sil frm envirnmental parents.
Our results shw that light cnditin experienced by parents can influence ffspring respnses t light thrugh bth parental effects and sil legacies. The parental effects were mediated (调节) by changes in DNA and the sil legacies. These impacts may eventually influence the eclgical and evlutinary track f clnal plant ppulatins.
