Zheng Qinwen announced herself as a major new force in women's tennis with an import French Open debut(首秀) last month. Now the Chinese teenager hopes the fighting spirit she showed at the Grand Slam(大满贯) tournament can encourage kids starting out in the sport to chase their dreams on the court with the same determination.
"If tennis is your dream, I think you always have to fight for your dream. Because we only have one life, you shouldn't have any regrets," Zheng said last week in an interview.
The 19-ycar-old showed she had the talent to be a contender at the very top level of tennis with a breakout campaign at French Open.
Accounting for two-time Grand Slam winner Simona Halep along the way, Zheng's journey was ended in the fourth round by a three-set defeat to eventual champion IgaSwiatek. Zheng, though gaved the Polish world No. 1 a big scare, battling back from 3-0 down in the first set to force, and win, a tiebreak(平分决胜局).
"That was the first time l had played the world No. 1, so I really wanted to grab this chance so I could judge her level and test myself," said Zheng. "I didn't want to give her the match so easy liked that. It was pretty difficult for me to hold on in that match because of what my body was going through, but I wanted to show her I'm not easily beaten.
Looking back at Zheng Qinwen's performances in this year's French Open, there's no doubt that she's a true fighter. Zheng says she avoids being discouraged by higher-ranked opponents by simply focusing on the next point, one shot at a time. Supported by her team, she hopes she can one day win a Grand Slam title.
Zheng's impressive French Open run has inevitably led to comparisons with China's solitary Grand Slam singles champion Li Na, who won the 2011 French Open and 2014 Australian Open titles.
"When I was a kid, Li Na showed that Asian people also can do something really good in tennis. She was the first one. I will just focus on my own game and then let's see if I can really compete at the highest level," said Zheng.
24. What does the underlined word "contender" in paragraph 3 mean?
A. . Organizer. B. Announcer. C. Competitor. D Designer.
25. What is the result of the match between Zheng and IgnSwiatek?
A. IgaSwiatek beat Zheng easily. B. Zheng lost to IgaSwiatek at last.
C. Zheng won the match despite her pain. D. IgaSwiatek lost because of her mistakes.
26. Why is Li Na mentioned in paragraph 7?
A. To explain why Li Na has achieved a lot
B. To prove failure is the mother of success.
C. To show how excellent Zheng Qinwen is.
D. To compare the difference between Zheng Qinwen and Li Na.
27. Which of the following can best describe Zheng Qinwen?
A. Struggling and determined B. Optimistic and generous.
C. Independent and helpful. D. Adventurous and realistic.

Few things are more satisfying than sleeping late on weekends. But though the extra sleep may improve your mood, it does not appear to improve your health. A new study shows that so-called
"recovery sleep" cannot reset the body clock and may actually lead to some serious health problems.
Christopher Depner, an assistant professor at the Department of Integrative Physiology of the University of Colorado Boulder, said, "Sleep loss can influence a range of physiological systems. It can increase our risk of high blood pressure and heart disease, it can cause weight gain, and It can increase our risk of diabetes(糖尿病). "
In the study, Depner and his colleagues divided the volunteers into three groups. One group was allowed to get a full night's sleep. The next was kept to just five hours each night. And the third group went back and forth, limited to five hours of shut-eye during the workweek, allowed as much sleep as they wanted over the weekend, and then back to five hours for the last couple of days.
"We found that a loss of sleep leads to a sharp increase in snacking. But even more surprising, sleeping on the weekend doesn't help—and even makes thing worse" said Depener. "After the weekend, when they went back to getting inadequate sleep during the work or school week, their liver and muscle insulin(胰岛素) sensitivity or blood sugar regulation was reduced. And this is not something we found in people who had long-term inadequacy sleep schedules. So it's possible that this is a worsening of the body's ability to regulate blood sugar for these specific tissues after the weekend. "
So make a date with a pillow. And trade the sweets for sweet dreams.
28. What effect does sleep loss have on people?
A. It results in changes in their moods. B. It does harm to the body clock.
C. It damages the liver severely. D. It makes people become heavier.
29. What do we know about the volunteers in the second group?
A. They were allowed to have the least sleep in a week.
B. They could have as much sleep as possible on weekends.
C. Their liver and muscle insulin sensitivity was reduced.
D. Their ability to regulate blood sugar was found worsened.
30. What does the author advise readers to do according to the text?
A. To sleep extra hours on weekends. B. To balance their work and sleep.
C. To trade some sweets as possible. D. To get enough sleep on weekdays.
31. From which part of a website is the text probably taken?
A. Culture. B. Fashion. C. Sci-tech. D. Health.
_________D
In this modern age, most of us have forgotten to be patient and get angry very quickly over minor things like a traffic jam, a baby crying and such things. It often seems so easy to get what we want right away that when we have to wait even a little while, it seems like we are waiting for ages. We used to be happy to wait 10-15 minutes it took to reheat food in the oven(烤箱), but now we're impatient when waiting two minutes it takes in the microwave.
With the convenience provided by modern society, is patience still a virtue(美德) in the fast-paced world? To begin with, I'd like to share the meaning of the word "patience". Generally it means being able to tolerate delay without getting impatient. However, it isn't necessarily a passive activity. It takes an active commitment, knowing when to take action and when not to.
So I would argue that patience is still—and always — a virtue. Sure. I used to be one of those who often stared at the microwave for the full two minutes it took to heat my food. And in the end, the food tasted bad. If I had had the patience to heat the food properly in the oven, I would have enjoyed a delicious meal.
Actually the benefits of patience go beyond just heating up our food. Patience is an exercise in self-control which shows that we can handle life problems when things get tough, and that we can exercise good judgment. Lack of patience can cause us to make wrong decisions that negatively affect our health and happiness, waste our time, put us under a lot of stress and affect our relationships in a very negative way.
Everything in life happens for a reason. Sometimes we face an obstacle(障碍) because we need to grow in ways we didn't realize. It's not always obvious when that was happening, but with patience we will soon see clearly why it happened; and what we were meant to learn from it.
Taking time to think about our actions and being patient are a small price to pay when we determine the best possible solution to any problems.
32. The author uses the example of reheating food to show that.
A. people have no time to enjoy the meal B. high technology brings more benefits
C. more people lack patience now D. the fast-paced life makes people stressed
33. What could be inferred from Paragraph 4?
A. People under stress tend to get angry.
B. Patient people are more likely to make better decisions.
C. People with self-control are easier to succeed.
D. Patient people are unlikely to make mistakes.
34. What does the author intend to tell us in Paragraph 5?
A. A wise man learns from experience.
B. A brave man is not afraid of challenges.
C. A man should find out reasons for what happened.
D. A man should be patient to deal with difficulties.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The causes of impatience. B. Ways to exercise patience.
C. Is patience really a virtue? D. What docs "patience" mean?
第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两处为多余选项。
Criticism(批评) can be divided into two types. The first type is when someone expresses their disagreement. This is the type of criticism that can be the most hurtful. Parents might express their disagreement of your choice in career, friends or lifestyle. 36 It can be terribly unpleasant to stand it,
The second type of criticism involves pointing out your weaknesses and mistakes. No one is perfect, yet many imperfect people seem to find it extremely easy to let us know when we mess up. 37 And the fact that they are telling us what we already know makes it much more annoying.
When people express their disagreement of some area of your life, you first need to consider how you feel about it. You need to be sure about who you are and the decisions that you make. 38
Remember that there is a difference between being firm in your choices and being headstrong. Don't be stubborn. Be brave enough to truly hear what they are saying even if you don't agree with it at first. 39 If not, just let it go and trust that they meant well but what they were saying is not for you. Don't be mad at them.
40 Other people have different views op what you are doing and can help you. If you are one of those people who just want to learn the hard way, try listening to some advice for a change. It might do you some good.
A. You may come to realize that they are right.
B. Bear in mind that you should never criticize others.
C. People may criticize how you dress or the way you act.
D. There is no need for you to care about others' criticism.
E. In many cases, we already know a lot of what they are saying to us.
p. If your decisions are solid, you won't allow anyone to change your mind.
G. Improving yourself works best if you can see yourself from different angles.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Kevin was a "slow" boy. He didn't learn his ABCs as fast as other kids. He never came in first in the schoolyard races. However, Kevin could get along well with other people. And his enthusiasm for life was quite contagious(有感染力的). So, when he discovered that his teacher, Randy Moss, was putting together a basketball team, his mother could only answer, "Yes, you may join. "
Basketball became the center of Kevin's life. He liked to stand in a certain spot near the free-throw line and shoot baskets. He usually missed it but patiently, he stood there throwing ball after ball, hoping to make a basket in the game.
The day before their first game. Randy gave each player a bright red jersey(运动衫). Kevin had stars in his eyes when he saw his number 12. He quickly put it on and almost never took it off again. Kevin and his whole team truly loved basketball. But just loving the game doesn't help you win. More balls fell out of the basket than into it, and the boys lost every game that season, except one—the night it snowed, and the other team couldn't make it to the game.
At the end of the season, they had the misfortune to play against the first-place team-the undefeated first-place team. The game went pretty much as expected, and near the middle of the fourth quarter Kevin's team stood nearly 50 points behind.
At that point, one of Kevin's teammates called a time-out. As he came to the side, Randy couldn't imagine why the time-out had been called. "Mr. Moss, this is our last game and I know that Kevin has played in every game, but he's never made a basket. I think we should let Kevin make a basket," said the boy.
With the game completely out of reach, the idea seemed reasonable, so the plan was made. Every time Kevin's team had the ball, Kevin was to stand in his special spot near the free-throw line and they would give him the ball.

His first shot bounced around but missed. Number 17 from the other team got the ball and took it down to the other end scoring two more points. As soon as Kevin's team had the ball again, they passed it to Kevin who stood in his place. But he missed again. This pattern continued a few more times until Number17 grew wise. He grabbed the ball and instead of running down the court, he threw the ball to Kevin who shot… but missed again.
Soon, all the players threw the ball to Kevin and clapped for him. It took the audience just a little longer to figure out what was happening, but little by little people started to stand up and clap their hands. After many attempts, the ball took one bounce and went in. Kevin's arms shot high into the air and he shouted for joy. The clock ticked off the last few seconds and the first-place team remained undefeated. But on that evening, everyone left the game truly feeling like a winner.

Text 10
M: Working at a desk all day may not be as bad for your health as sitting in front of a television after work. That is a finding of a new study done in the United States. The study, led by Jeanette Garcia in Orlando, followed close to 3,600 African-American adults. Almost one-third of them watched television for more than four hours a day. A little more than one-third of the subjects spent between two and four hours a day sitting in front of the TV. The remaining third watched TV for less than two hours a day. Compared to people who watched less than two hours of television daily, those who spent more than four hours in front of the TV were 49 percent more likely to die or have a heart attack or stroke. Jennifer, a researcher in the team, says it is possible that sitting in front of the TV might be worse than sitting at a desk because people snack while they are watching TV. Besides, some people simply stay up too late and do not get enough sleep. These factors could make people more likely to die early, she added. The study had some limitations, however. The undesirable health effects of TV appeared to be limited to adults who failed to get the recommended amount of exercise. That is around 150 minutes of moderate physical activity or75 minutes of intense exercise every week. But it doesn't mean people with desk jobs don't need to get moving during the work day.
