英语中有许多功能词,如:表因果关系的because, since, as等;表转折关系的but, however ,on the contrary, on the other hand等等。
如:can, may, might, possible, not necessarily, some.
5.正确答案经常具有概括性、深刻性,不能只见树木不见森林。
错误答案的特征:
第一大层次:
1.无中生有(未提及的概念);
2.正反混淆(选项的意思跟原文的意思正好相反);
3.所答非所问(虽然选项的说法没有问题,符合原文,但和题干搭不上边)
第二大层次:
1.过分绝对;
2.扩大范围(注意隐蔽型的扩大范围mostly);
3.因果倒置;
4.常识判断;
5.偏离中心;
D(2019扬州中考)
Trees in cities "live fast but die young" compared to forests in the countryside, warns a new study.
Researchers found that trees in cities die younger than ones in the countryside because of the higher levels of CO2. City-living trees suffer(遭受) a loss of carbon storage(碳储量). That means trees produce less energy from the air.
Now researchers say more must be done to deal with the situation. Ian Smith, a PhD student of Boston University in the United States, said, “Cities are in the important position in fighting against rising temperatures and increasing CO2.”. “We find that tree planting alone may not be enough to keep and increase city canopy cover(树冠覆盖率). Because of the age and size of the present canopy, efforts to improve and protect tree health are badly needed for increasing city tree cover and canopy cover.”
The research team used a model to watch changes among street trees for several planting and management methods. Researchers also used the model to watch tree growth, death and planting rates(率)both among trees in Boston city and forests in the countryside in Massachusetts.
It was discovered that rates of carbon cycling and growth rates among city trees were nearly four times faster than those in the countryside. However, loss of carbon storage and death rates are also higher, especially death rates are more than double higher than those in countryside forests.
The study, published in PLOS ONE, has reminded scientists to encourage communities to do more to plant and protect trees. It is important to increase city canopy cover and carbon storage.
Researchers say planting and protecting will be needed to make sure cities can develop healthily, but more needs to be done to have a better understanding of city trees ---which may be different from countryside forests.
45. The writer’s main purpose of writing the passage is ____________.
A. to teach us how to improve and protect tree health
B. to warn us that trees in cities live fast but die young
C. to let us have a better understanding of city trees
D. to tell us to take action to increase city canopy cover
【答案】C
【解析】写作意图题。根据文章最后一段最后一句话可知作者写这篇文章的目的是让人们对城市的树木有一个更好的了解。所以答案选C。

If you walk through a park in the morning or in the evening, you might see a lot of people doing these slow and beautiful movements— Carry the tiger over the mountain and White crane spreads its wings. In fact, they are doing Taichi.
Taichi is an ancient martial art (武术). It is a common kind of exercise in China. More than 100 million people in over 150 countries practice Taichi at present. Recently UNESCO (联合国教科文组织) has added Taichi to its Intangible Cultural Heritage List (非物质文化遗产名录). Many taichi fans were happy to hear of it. “This will make taichi more popular around the world. Hopefully, more people will become healthier by practicing it.” said Chen Bin. He is a Taichi master from the village of Chenjiagou, Henan Province. This village is the birthplace of Chen-style Taichi.
It’s true that doing Taichi is good for our health. It can make us walk and move more freely, and it can also make us stronger. During slow movements, we can focus on (专注) our hands and feet. We can control them better. Slow movements also help us to take deep and long breaths.
Taichi also focuses on the harmony (和谐) between yin (阴) and yang (阳). It shows how the ancient Chinese people saw the world. The world is full of yin and yang: dark and light, soft and hard, female and male. But they don’t oppose (对立) each other absolutely (绝对地). As we see in the picture, a white spot is in the black area and a black spot is in the white area. After a dark night, the sun will rise. Leaves fall in autumn but grow in spring. Everything keeps changing — that is how we should see the world.
Taichi carries traditional Chinese philosophy (哲学), such as being in harmony with nature and using softness to beat hardness. It has become a symbol of Chinese culture.
59. What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage?
A. To ask people to do Taichi in their fiee time. B. To introduce an ancient martial art—taichi.
C. To teach people how to do Taichi correctly. D. To explain why Taichi is good for our health.

Many social study books and articles have graphs to go with the text. A graph is a kind of picture that shows amounts, or numbers clearly. A graph can show the same information that is in the text, but it helps you “picture” the information and makes it easier to understand and quicker to read. A circle graph, also called a pie graph, is divided into “slices”. It shows how the parts fit into the whole. Here are some suggestions on how to read it.
Step 1 Read the title to find out what the graph is about. The circle graph above shows the population of Washington, D. C.
Step 2 Look at the slices. This graph has seven “slices”. Each shows one group of people. You can see how each part compares to the whole-how each group compares to the total population.
Step 3 Use the label to find out what is being compared. The labels on the graph name the group of people who live in Washington, D. C. A line connects to the correct part of the graph.
Step 4 Read the introduction to the graph. The passage beside the graph may offer some more detailed information of the topic.
33. What’s the writer’s purpose of writing this article?
A. To teach readers how to read social study books.
B. To ask readers to compare different slices of a graph.
C. To help readers find out the best way to read an article.
D. To give readers some suggestions on how to read a graph.
【答案】 33. D

My father was a cemetery(公墓)keeper. When I was a child,he often took me there. Before we left each time,he would lay some stones on some graves(坟墓). I never asked why. I just thought that was his work.
Yesterday, I visited my sick father. He asked me to go to the cemetery and lay some stones. For some reason, it had to be done that day. I agreed. I hadn't been there for a long time.
When I got there, I found a woman in front of one of the graves I would lay a stone on.As I bent to lay it, I heard her whisper“ Thank you”. It was then that I noticed the date of death on the grave was that same day. The grave was that of a child, only five when he died fifteen years ago.
" He's my son, "she said. " But, where’s your father? He was always the one to leave the stone.”
I told her that my father was ill but he asked me to do this. It seemed important to him.“Your father’s kindness means more to me than anything else. When my child died, I came often to see him. It is our custom to leave a stone. It tells the one who is here that he is thought of. But, then we moved away from here. so many painful memories. I was so afraid that he would be alone. But your father marked the grave every time he came. Each time I returned here, I saw that stone and it always comforted me. Your father is the kind of man who would ease the pain of a mother’s heart though we are strangers. Just tell him you saw me today, won’t you?” She said.
It took me a minute to find my voice. That small stone marked the grave of a child and the heart of his mother.
40. According to the passage, we can infer(推断)___________.

D篇(2019扬州中考)
Rock art is the name given to pictures drawn on rock by ancient peoples. In the American--Southwest, rock art can be seen on the walls of caves and mountains. Many of these places are in the Four Corners area, where the states of Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico meet. More than 7,000 rock art places have been found just in Utah, where the area’s dry climate(气候) has helped keep the art.
There are three forms of rock art. The first is petroglyphs, which are pictures carved(雕刻) into the surface of rock. A sharp(尖利的) stone may have been used as a carving tool. A heavy stone may have been used to hit the sharp stone into the surface. The second form of rock art is pictographs, which are pictures painted on the rock. The paint was made from plants and trees. The artists painted with fingers, brushes made form hair, or bird bones. The third kind of rock art is geoglyphs, which are designs made in the ground by taking away stones.
Some rock art shows faces, hands, animals, and trees. Other pictures are symbols such as lines, circles, and squares. Some scientist think these symbols marked the location of water or good hunting grounds. Some think the symbols were put there during special celebrations. Others think the symbols showed the movement of planets and stars. Still others believe that they are just doodles.
Some rock art may be a form of writing. Large scenes are shown on mountains. Some scenes seem to tell a story. A hunting scene may include animals and people with hunting tools. A scene with many people holding hands could mean friendship. Rock art in caves may have been a way to decorate the artist’s home.
Some rock art in the Southwest is about 200 years old. Other rock art may be 10,000 years old. Scientists think an ancient people called the Anasazi crated the older works. They were farmers and lived in caves.
37.What can we infer (推断)from the passage?

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
By Robert Frost
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

April 22nd every year marks the beginning of Earth Day, started in the year 1970, it is now celebrated in more than 190 countries each year. Every year, the event is celebrated under a different theme. The theme for 2022 is “Invest In Our Planet”.
However, Earth Day is not just an event to be celebrated on one specific day. It is primarily a reminder for all to do our rightful duty every day to save our planet. Below, we have made a list of four things you can do to celebrate Earth Day (apart from planting trees).
Leave your cars at home. Cars, being the greatest source of air pollution, can be left at home this weekend. Ride a bike or walk if your workplace is not that far away from your home.
Be a little dirty. We don’t mean it “that” way. We simply mean to say, don’t take a bath. A day or two without a bath won’t harm you, but it will certainly do a lot of good for our planet. A daily shower isn’t a matter of health; it’s a matter of comfort.
Volunteer yourself. This is one of the best things you can do. It will do you good too. Join other like-minded individuals in a common task, such as planting trees, cleaning a park or simply coming up with ways you can protect mother Earth.
Green-up your home. This is one of the most common things that people do, that is, turn off your lights. However, this is not something you should do just for a day and for only an hour. Turn off all power electricity points whenever they are not in use.
You know what the best way to celebrate Earth Day is? Extend your celebrations. That’s right! Do something every day that will improve your surroundings to make the planet a better place to live in. Always remember that every step, every action counts.

Yes, you read that right: plants that dance. It’s true. I’ve seen them! Udon Thani is a province in northeast Thailand. There are no big cities there and not as many tourist attractions as there are in other parts of the country. But there is one small plant nursery (苗圃) with one of the most amazing but little-known sights in the world: simple, green plants that look like common weeds (野草).
These special dancing plants area hybrid of the Thani Gyrant and the Chinese Gyrant—the pure parents can’t dance as well as their hybrid child. The scientific name of this type of plant is Codariocalyx motorius (舞草).
Let’s go back to the dancing. Walk through the nursery, and we see many bright, eye-catching plants. Deep in the center of the nursery, is a row of these green weeds. These are the dancing plants. “Stand in front of them and sing,” the nursery worker says.
At first it feels silly to sing to a plant. I sing quietly and shyly, and nothing happens. I think about leaving, but I make myself stay and sing longer. Slowly, the plants start opening and closing their little leaves. The longer and louder I sing, the more they move. When I stop, they stop. I test to see if my breath is making the leaves blow—nope. They’re moving because I’m making a sound. It’s unimaginable to communicate with a plant this way. It makes me think very deeply about the ways all living things are alive. Perhaps we’re more connected with the plant world than we think we are.
Why the plant dances is still a mystery—just another sign that we still have a lot to learn about our world.

Growing up in Tanzania, Abdulrazak Gurnah never thought of the possibility that he might one day be a writer. “I never thought about that,” he said in an interview. “It wasn’t something you could say as you were growing up, ‘I want to be a writer.’ “He thought he would become “something useful, like an engineer.”
Then, in 1964, something terrible forced Gurnah, at age 18, to run away to England. But the new life was not as good as he thought. Unhappy, poor, homesick, he began to write down things about home in his diary, and then longer writings, then stories about other people. Those small thoughts, the habit of writing to understand and record his own loneliness, finally became his first novel, then nine more — works that describe the pain of colonialism (殖民) and war. “The key thing that helps the whole experience of writing for me was this idea of losing your place in the world, “he said.
On October 7, 2021, Gurnah was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, widely seen as the most famous literary award in the world. His works talked about refugees(难民) and their living conditions. These books help us learn more about differences in culture and countries.
Gurnah, now 72, is the first black writer to receive the prize since Toni Morrison in 1993, and some people saw. his selection(当选) as a good thing after years of European and American Nobel winners. He is the first African to win the award in more than ten years.

Hello, I’m Rob. Welcome to our programme. Today we’re talking about high-speed train travel. Many countries have very fast trains that transport people from city to city in super-quick time. Yes, high-speed train travel is becoming popular. Well, we’ll be finding out why the UK is hoping to do something that is already popular by building a new high-speed rail line.
We know that high-speed train travel has many good things. It helps to take traffic off the road, it causes less pollution, it can move lots of people and it’s quick. Yes, speed is important. Now, the TGV train in France takes about three hours to travel over 750 kilometres from Paris to Marseille in the south - very impressive.
But the UK has been slow to build high-speed rail lines. It has one from London to Paris, but the Transport Secretary, Patrick McLoughlin, thinks one line is not good enough. People can go from London to Paris on high-speed trains, but can’t go from London to Birmingham. That means you can get to Paris by train more quickly than you can travel to many British cities. The government wants to build another one — called HS2 — connecting London to the middle and north of England.
But not everyone agrees to the plan and there is much discussion. Some say it will be very expensive to build, although some experts(专家)say for every 1 pound spent, it will bring 2 pounds back. There are also worries that some of the countrysides will be destroyed. It could be a long time before a final decision is made. So now we’ll just have to accept that our trains in the UK will carry on at an unhurried speed while we watch with envy as another country’s high-speed train passes us by!
Thank you. We hope you’ve enjoyed today’s programme.
29. What is the type of the programme?

A. It is slow. B. It is expensive. C. It falls behind. D. It becomes popular.
32. What does the host think of building a new rail line in the UK?
A. It will be completed soon. B. It is not a good idea.
C. It destroys the environment. D. It may take a long time.

My name is Lucy Razil. I’m a very lucky person because I make my living doing what I love—painting beautiful pictures.
I’ve loved painting for as long as I can remember. I painted my first picture when I was just four. I had a bedroom with walls the color of the summer sky. One day, when Mom wasn’t looking, I gathered up my paint pots and painted a summer scene on one blue wall. I painted myself and my dog Clyde in a meadow filled with flowers. I painted the sun behind a fluffy white cloud.
I was just finishing the painting when Mom walked into my room. Her mouth dropped open and she stood completely still. “I’m in big trouble,” I remember thinking to myself. So I was really surprised when Mom said, “What a beautiful picture, Lucy!” The picture stayed on my bedroom wall and is still there today, nearly 30 years later. I see it every time I go home to visit Mom.
I tell this story because it shows how much Mom supported my love of painting. When I was in school, she cared as much about what I did in art class as what I did in math or reading or science.
She saved all my paintings, and she hung many of them on the walls in our house. She never said, “Painting is a fine hobby, but it’s a hard way to make a living.” Instead, she said, “You are so talented. You’ll be a success. Follow your dream.”
Today I am a success as a painter. I am happy that people love my paintings enough to hang them in their homes. I am proud that some of my paintings hang in museums around the country. Most of all, I am grateful that Mom has always supported me. Much of my success is because of her.
23. Mother felt ________ when she first saw Lucy’s painting on the wall.
A.angry B. surprised C. relaxed D. worried
24. How can we tell that Lucy is a success as a painter?
A. She painted her first painting at the age of 4.
B. Her bedroom painting is still there 30 years later.
C. People love her paintings and hang them in their homes.
D. Her love of painting got much support from her mother.
25. Which of the following best describes Lucy’s mother?
A. Strict but patient. B. Supportive and open-minded.
C. Kind but careless. D. Careful and well-organized.

In the workhouse, Oliver soon learnt that the workers were served three meals of thin gruel (稀粥) , with an onion twice a week and half a loaf of bread on Sundays.
The evening arrived, and the boys took their places at the table. The master, in his cooled uniform, stood at the table. His poor helpers were behind him. The gruel was served out and after they spoke to God to give thanks, there was little time left to eat. The gruel soon disappeared and the bowls were empty again in a few seconds. The boys whispered each other, and encouraged Oliver to ask for more. Oliver decided to take a risk. He rose from the table and went to the master, plate and spoon in hand, said, “please, sir, I want some more.” The helpers were frozen with wonder and the boys with fear.
The master was a fat, healthy man, but he turned very pale. He looked at Oliver in great surprise for some seconds, and nearly fell but for the support to the table. Nobody else spoke.
“What?” he asked at last, in a faint voice, hardly to be heard. “Please, sir,” replied Oliver, “I want some more.”
The master hit Oliver’s head with the spoon and shouted for Mr. Bumble to come to deal with Oliver Twist.
Mr. Bumble came quickly, heard the news and brought the problem to the workhouse board(委员会) for advice. A heated discussion took place. At last, they put Oliver in a cold, dark room and no boys were allowed to talk to him. A notice was hung on the outside of the gate, offering a reward of five pounds to anybody who would take Oliver Twist off the hands of the workhouse.
Oliver was left in the room for a week. He cried sadly all day, and when the long night came, he spread his little hands over his eyes to shut out the darkness, and laid in the corner, trying to sleep. The cold, hard walls were protection in the fear and loneliness around him.
26. Why did Oliver ask for more gruel?

Sticking to a vegan (坚持素食的)diet might sound difficult, especially since many popular dishes have meat in them. Yet in recent years, veganism has become one of the fastest-growing trends(趋势)in the world.
According to HuffPost, more than 3 million people in the United States are vegans. In the UK, about 542,000 people have chosen veganism over the past 10 years.
What is driving this growth in veganism? One reason might be that people want to protect the environment. According to a 2013 study by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, global meat manufacturing(加工)causes about 18 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions(排放). This is more than all the worlds cars, trains and planes combined.
According to BBC News, one reason is that many of today’s young people believe it’s wrong to kill animals for food. For many people, veganism simply means eating no meat, cheese or eggs, but going animal-free also applies(应用)to fashion and manufacturing. For example, leather is used to make shoes and clothing. Every year more than 1 billion animals, from cows to horses to snakes, are killed to make products from their skins. Now, many brands are looking for other materials.
The sports brand Puma, for example, has made shoes out of pineapple leaves. Tesla, the US car maker, is said to be removing(去除)animal-based leather from its seats. Earlier this year, US singer Lady Gaga created the vegan makeup brand Haus Laboratories. On the brand’s Instagram account, it says: “Cruelty-free(零残忍)and vegan, because we love animals and you.”
So, if you’re interested in protecting animals and saving the environment, you might want to give veganism a try.
66. More and more people are choosing veganism because ________.
a. they think eating meat is not healthy b. processing meat pollutes the environment
c. they think we shouldn’t kill animals d. there are new materials to replace animal products
A. ab B. bc C. bd D. cd
67. The examples in Paragraph 5 show that ________.
A. some brands try to protect animals B. many famous people are vegans
C. veganism is popular all over the world D. we can live on plants in the future

Trudy couldn’t wait to get away. The room was too full of beautiful things, including a large green-and-white vase (花瓶) with a dragon painted on the side. Any minute now there would be a disaster, she felt sure. She turned to the door.
Something furry (毛茸茸的) brushed against her leg. Trudy jumped backwards. The furry thing gave a loud “YEOWLL!” It leaped on to the piano.
Trudy jumped again, sideways. Her arm hit the green-and-white vase. She watched in horror as it moved from side to side...
...to side to side...
...to side to side and...
It fell to the floor and broke into little pieces. DISASTER.
Nobody moved. The cat — who had caused the trouble — sat on top of the piano, waving its tail.
Then Trudy said, “Oh, sorry, I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. It’s because I’m clumsy (笨拙). That’s why I didn’t want to come into your house. I knew something would get broken. It always does when I’m around.”
“It’s all right,” Mrs Willow said calmly.
Surprised, Trudy looked at her.
“Not a bit. You see, that vase has been broken before. It had to be mended then. And do you know who broke it?” Mrs Willow smiled. “I did, when I was just about your age. Yes, I used to be clumsy.”
Trudy couldn’t believe it. Mrs Willow seemed so tall and graceful. She didn’t look the kind of person who would knock things over.
“You couldn’t have been as clumsy as I am,” she said.
Mrs Willow took a photo from the top of the piano. “Do you see this girl playing tennis?” she asked. “Well, that was me.”
Trudy looked at the photo.
The girl playing tennis was tall and thin with untidy hair. She had a wide grin on her face.
Mrs Willow laughed. “I was a real ugly duckling, wasn’t I? But do you remember what happened to the ugly duckling?”
Trudy nodded. “It grew up to be a swan. But I don’t think I shall. I’ll just grow up to be an ugly duck.”
“Not if you do as I did. You have to keep telling yourself that inside, where it is important, you’re really a swan.”
Trudy said doubtfully, “I’m a swan.”
“It does work, you know. It’s a kind of magic. Say it again. This time, as if you really believe it.”
Trudy gave a gentle cough ...

Bassanio looked at the three boxes, but he did not read the writing on them. He looked at the gold and silver.
“The world is tricked by appearances,” he said. “People often hide ordinary things with beautiful gold, silver, and jewels. People always agree with those who speak well, even if they say foolish things. Many people who seem brave are really cowards. How often do we believe in leaders who turn out to be bad? I remember the story of Midas, the man who loved gold too much. He wanted everything to be gold. He wished that he could make everything gold just by touching it. When he could, it was a disaster. He could not eat his golden food, and he was afraid to touch his daughter. No, I do not want these beautiful boxes of gold and silver. I will choose the lead box with its ordinary color. It speaks more to me than all the gold and silver in the world. Please give me the key to the lead box. Let happiness be mine.
One of the servants gave him the key, and he went to the box and opened it. Portia was very pleased. She could not believe it, until Bassanio opened the box and saw the picture of Portia inside it. When he saw the picture, he loved her even more because the picture was very beautiful. He wondered how anyone could paint such a good picture of her. It was almost as beautiful as Portia herself. He looked at all the parts of the picture. He looked at the eyes and the hair and the mouth. All of them were perfect. But Portia herself even more beautiful than her picture.
The writing inside the box told him that he had chosen the right box. It said that he should go to Portia and look into her eyes. She would be his wife. Bassanio could not believe it. “Is it really true?” he asked. “Will you really be my wife? I am afraid to believe it until you say so.”

One pipe (烟斗) in Mr. Dow’s store caught Joey’s eye. He imagined some day he would be a grown man and could smoke a pipe, just like this one. He looked around. Nobody was looking. He put the pipe in his hand. He just wanted to get the feel of it.
Suddenly he heard footsteps behind him. He turned around quickly. It was Mr. Dow, the store owner. “Hello, Joey,” Mr. Dow said. Joey struggled (挣扎) to answer but only smiled weakly as Mr. Dow walked away. Did Mr. Dow see the pipe in his hand? Joey’s thoughts became unclear. He watched his feet begin to move and take him out of the store.
Wandering (徘徊) in the street, he felt something against his stomach. He knew it was the pipe. He had walked out of the store with it. He pulled the pipe out of his pocket. Joey wondered if Mr. Dow had called the police. Perhaps the police were waiting for him at home. He could say he did not take the pipe. No one had seen him do it. Still he himself would know that he did.
Then, it was time to go home. His mother would look at him and she would know. She always knew. A hot tear ran down his cheek. He remembered the way she said, “You are a little man now, Joey.” Thinking of it made him sad. “She trusted me,” he kept saying to himself. The pipe and his dreams of growing up meant nothing.
He knew what he had to do. And he was in a hurry to get it done. When he reached the store, Mr. Dow was just inside the door. The big man smiled. Joey’s feet felt heavy. Suddenly, he held out the pipe.
“Mr. Dow,” he said, “I didn’t mean to take it.”
“Thanks, Joey.” Mr. Dow said gently.
“How about staying around and helping me close up shop?”
Joey felt Mr. Dow’s big hand on his shoulder. And Joey felt his shoulders had become a little adder and stronger.
