Teenagers who spend hours in front of the television may have a poorer diet (饮食) as young adults.
A study, which included nearly 1,400 high school students, found those who watched TV for five hours or more per day had less healthy diets than peers (同龄人) five years later. Why does this happen? Should the parents take any actions?
On the one hand, people who spend a lot of time in front of the TV, especially teenagers, may snack more, and that may influence their long-term diet quality (质量). On the other hand, TV ads for fast food, sweets and snacks tempt teenagers to eat more of those foods. And TV time might also replace exercise time for some kids.
Lead researcher Dr. Daheia J. Barr-Anderson, of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, told Reuters Health a clear relationship between TV time during high school and diet quality in young adulthood. While the heaviest TV viewers were eating the most junk food, those who’d watched less than two hours per day had the highest intake (摄入量) of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and high-calcium (钙) food. In her opinion, parents should limit and monitor TV viewing.
As far as I am concerned, children should watch not more than two hours of television per day. And parents should set a good example by eating right, being physically active and controlling their own TV time.
24.Which can replace the word “tempt” in Paragraph 3?
    A.help B.allow C.lead D.invite

A.Take in high-calcium food. B.Eat less junk food.
C.Take in fewer vegetables. D.Eat more fruit.

A.TV ads stop them from fast food.
B.The snacks they eat lead to a poor diet quality.
C.They can do a lot more exercise during TV time.
D.They have a lower intake of junk food.
27.What suggestion does the author give the parents?
A.They should behave well in front of their children.
B.They should encourage their children to exercise more.
C.They should stop the children from watching TV.
D.They should pay attention to calcium in diets.
28.What’s the best title for this text?
    A.Why Do Teenagers Like TV.

In so many ways, cyberspace (网络空间) reflects (反映) the real world. People ask for information, play games, and share hobby tips. Others buy and sell products. Still others look for friendship, or even love.
Unlike the real world, however, your knowledge about a person is limited (限制) to words on a computer screen. Age, identity (身份) and appearance (外表) mean very little in cyberspace. However, a person’s thoughts are what really matter. So even the shyest person can become a chat-room star.
Usually, this “faceless” communication doesn’t create problems. Identity doesn’t really matter when you’re in a chat room discussing your ideas or hobbies. In fact, this stress (压力) on the ideas makes the Internet a great place for exciting conversations. Where else can so many people come together to chat?
But some Internet users want more than just someone to chat with. They’re looking for serious relationships. Is cyberspace a good place to find true friends? That answer depends on whom you ask. Some of these relationships actually succeed. Others fail.
Supporters say that the Internet allows people to get to know each other intellectually (智力地) first. Personal appearance doesn’t get in the way. But others think that no one can truly know another person in cyberspace. Why? Because the Internet gives users a lot of control over how others think of them. Internet users can carefully change their words to fit whatever image (形象) they want to give. In a sense, they’re not really themselves.
All of this may be fine if the relationship stays in cyberspace. But not knowing a person is a big problem in a relationship. With so many unknowns, it’s easy to let people’s imagination “fill in the blanks (空白).” This unavoidably (不可避免地) leads to disappointment (失望) when people meet in person. How someone imagines an online friend is often quite different from the real person.
So, before looking for friends in cyberspace, remember the advice of Clifford Stoll: “Life in the real world is far richer than anything you’ll find on a computer screen.”
    34.Even the shyest person can become a chat-room star because what’s really important is a person’s ________.
    A.age B.identity C.appearance D.thoughts
35.What do we know about the passage?
A.It is possible that people can’t find true friends online.
B.Appearance is important for relationship online.
C.A shy person will surely become talkative online.
D.People are encouraged to create images in cyberspace.
36.What does Paragraph 5 mainly tell us?
A.The face is the reflection of heart. B.Don’t judge (评价) a book by its cover.
C.Things are not always what they seem. D.Inner (内部的) beauty is more important than appearance.
37.What does “this” in Paragraph 6 refer to?
A.People’s imagination. B.A relationship. C.The online friend. D.The real friend.
38.What is the author’s attitude (态度) to looking for true friends in cyberspace?
    A.Positive (积极的). B.Negative (消极的). C.Interested. D.We don’t know.

Researchers in the 1960s found bilingual (双语的) people scored higher on intelligence (智力) tests than monolingual people who speak only one language. The latest studies show that being bilingual does not necessarily make people cleverer, but it probably does make you better at certain skills.
Imagine driving down the highway. There’re many things that could draw your attention and you really need to be able to watch all of them. Why would bilingualism make you any better at that?
The answer is that bilingual people are often better at controlling their attention — a function (功能) called the executive (执行的) control system. It’s quite possibly the most important system you have because it’s where all of your decisions about what to pay attention to, what to ignore (忽视), what to process (处理) are made.
The best method to measure (测量) the executive control system is called the Stroop Test. Suppose you would have the word “blue” written in red, but you have to say the colour red. But “blue” is so eye-catching, and you really want to say “blue”. You need to ignore it so that you can say the colour red. That’s the Stroop Test.
Bilingual people continually practice this function. They have to, because both languages are active in their brain at the same time. They need to ignore one to be able to speak in the other. This exercise might help in other ways, too. Researchers say bilingual children are more likely to have friends from different cultures. Bilingual adults are often four to five years later than others in developing Alzheimer’s disease (阿尔茨海默氏病).
39.What did the recent research find about bilingual people?
A.They can safely drive their cars. B.They can well manage their attention.
C.They can have a better control of imagination. D.They can easily pick out the colours they want.
40.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
    A.System. B.Test. C.Blue. D.Red.
41.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.Bilingualism may do harm to people’s health.
B.Bilingualism helps children make more foreign friends.
C.People must practice speaking two languages continually.
D.People use more active words from their mother languages.
42.What might be the best title for the text?
A.How does the Stroop Test work? B.What is executive control system?
C.Are monolingual people smarter? D.Are bilingual people better at some skills?
43.Where is the text probably from?
A.A shopping poster. B.A school introduction. C.A science report. D.A guidebook.

People have many different ways to relax during break time at work or school. Smart phones are probably the NO.1 choice for a quick mental (精神的) vacation. Although it might seem like a good time, looking at your cellphone may harm your mental power, according to a recent psychological study from Rutgers University in the United States.
For the study, more than 400 students were asked to finish a set of 20 word puzzles (字谜). Halfway through the task, the students were divided into three groups. Group one was allowed to take a break and use cellphones to buy things online. Group two was asked to have a rest and buy things using a computer. The last group didn’t take any break at all.
Interestingly, the group that used their cellphones during the break went back to work feeling the most tired and did not want to continue. They also had the hardest time solving the remaining word puzzles. The cellphone group took more time to finish the task and solved fewer problems than the other two groups. Terri Kurtzberg, co-author of the study, explained that looking at cellphones during a break may increase distraction (分心) that make it difficult to pay attention to work tasks.
“Cellphones may have this effect because even just seeing your phone remind you of checking messages, connecting with people, watching short videos and more, in ways that are different from how we use other screens like computers, and laptops,” Kurtzberg told Science Daily.
So, during your next break, try putting your smart phone away. Go out for a walk, get to know your classmates or even take a little sleep. You may be surprised by the results!
34.The study shows that using cellphones during breaks could ________.

What does it mean to be green? “Green” is more than just a colour. it also means taking special steps to protect the environment the water, the land, and the air we breathe. Why green? Plants are green, and without them the earth wouldn’t be such a lovely home for us human beings.

The Chinese version of TikTok, called Douyin(抖音), has amassed(积累) 400 million daily active users, parent company ByteDance revealed in its annual report this week. This is an impressive growth for the addictive(上瘾的) video app, which had 250 million daily active users in January last year.

"Things that trend in these two countries are quite different. For example: knowledge-based content is extremely popular in China, and less so in the U.S. Also, this was wild to me: those creators that did the most dance videos in China are users born in the 60s (!!), whereas in the US, it seems that it's mostly teenagers who are creating the dances," she wrote.
ByteDance claimed (宣称) that Douyin has established itself as the largest knowledge, culture and art platform in China. (Douyin is only available in mainland China.) Indeed, 14.89 million "knowledge-based content videos" were shared on the app last year, it claimed.
