One day, when I was going to check in at an airport, I noticed there was a big problem. The counter person was telling everyone that all the planes were having problems and they would not be able to fly! And it was suggested that a bus would be provided to take us to Seattle. Everyone was worried, as we only had an hour and a half to make the connecting flight, and the bus was not even at the airport yet.
Finally, the bus pulled up, and the driver said, “They just pulled me out of bed after an all-night shift (夜班), and they expect me to get you to Seattle in time to catch your flight. Good Luck!”
Needless to say, everyone was in a really bad mood. I was loading my luggage into the bus and had slung (吊) my banjo over my back when the driver said, “What? Are you going to play that in my bus?” “Well, really did not plan on it,” I replied. “I was only kidding,” said the driver. But I started thinking about it, and I pulled out the banjo. A worried, angry woman said, “Well, what if I don't like it?” “Then tell me and I will stop,” I replied.
We drove off, and the tension made the atmosphere in the bus horrendous! Then I started plucking (弹奏) the old song Blue Skies. In a few minutes, I noticed everyone was singing along. I started to sing, too, and before long, the whole bus burst into song.
One song led to another and everyone seemed to have a request. “Do you know You Are My Sunshine?” Everyone laughed and sang, with food passed around the bus, and before long, the airport was in sight.
The bus driver called, “We made it! We never would have done it without the help of our banjo player.” Shouts of approval rang through the bus. The driver said to me, “This was the best ride I ever had. Thanks for your music.”
A few weeks later, my mailbox was filled with letters from my new friends. Their letters reminded me of how, by reaching out with just a song, you can turn a very tense situation into a peaceful experience-a magical, musical bus ride.
24.What can we learn about the driver from his words in Paragraph 2?
A.He was glad to take those people to the airport.
B.He was late because he just returned from an all-night shift.
C.He thought it was hard to get those people to the airport in time.
D.He thought he was lucky to take those people to the airport.
25.When the author decided to play his banjo, ________.
A.the driver fully supported him B.not all the passengers preferred that idea
C.all the passengers disliked that idea D.the whole bus burst into song
26.The underlined word “horrendous” in Paragraph 4 can be replaced by _________.
    A.changeable B.strange C.very bad D.cheerful
27.What does this text mainly tell us?
A.A wonderful musical bus ride. B.An unforgettable flight to Seattle.
C.A great banjo player. D.The amazing friendship on a bus.

With the Chinese language becoming popular, the UK government plans to invest 10 million pounds to help more kids learn Mandarin (普通话). Do you think it is necessary for the UK pupils to learn Mandarin? Some people share their opinions online.
Tsd (UK): The learning of any language can be valuable and useful, but it is not suitable for everyone. Chinese is a difficult language to learn and the UK is said to be bad at learning foreign languages. Why should they learn Chinese when most people in the world speak English?
Mark (US): I studied French for 2 years in high school and German for 4 years in college. I studied Mandarin informally for about 4 months before moving to China. Now I speak Mandarin every day as my wife doesn’t speak English. But it is far from being fluent. Learning additional languages is a great thing, which offers a different view on the world around us. Nowadays, it’s almost necessary to be able to speak more than just your mother tongue.
George (UK) : No, unless they’re taught from a very early stage of childhood. Mandarin is so difficult. If China really is going to lead the world, it’ll have to do so by speaking the world ‘s leading language— English.

If having to make a choice between reading an e-book and a printed book, which would most people choose? Some would go for an e-book while some still prefer the hard-printed book.
Undoubtedly, e-books do have benefits. Firstly, changes to an electronic publication are relatively easy to make. They are quicker to obtain. E-books are more easily updated. The printed books on many subjects can become outdated very quickly. Secondly, e-books can be easily and quickly kept up to date. You usually get far more than just the e-books. Most e-books are sold with bonuses and related information that usually do not come with the purchase of a printed book. Moreover, they take up less space. Instead of a big library, you can fit literally thousands of books on your computer. It also makes it easier to share this information with families and friends.
For nearly twenty years, additionally, futurists have been predicting the development of printed books. The conventional view has been that digital e-books are on the verge of replacing paper books. However, this has not been the case. A printed book has its advantages too. Firstly, it is an object that can be carried and used alone. It needs no electric outlet (插座), no batteries, nothing. Secondly, e-books will always require some forms of support that the printed book does not need.
I believe that the online publishing has not taken off because people want real books. What is being published online more and more are pamphlets (小册子) and things that really do not need to be in print. These are stuff that people throw away afterward. More often, people do not want to read a book on the computer. What could be better than a paper book? It lasts a long time. These books are designed to last a long time without disappearing.
To sum up, there is no denying that the printed book is still very much preferred over its digital cousins. Reading electronic publications is just not the same when it comes to books. People are still very interested in real books and notebooks.
32.What can we know about an e-book?
A.It will never be out of date. B.It always gives you an added bonus.
C.It can deliver information quickly. D.It has taken the place of printed books.
33.Which statement would futurists probably agree with?
A.Printed books will disappear. B.Printed books can be used alone.
C.E-books have many restrictions. D.E-books have no drawbacks.
34.What is one cause of the failed online publishing?
A.The low demand for book industry. B.The expectations from people.
C.The guidance of policy. D.The desire for the printed books.
35.What does the author think of the future of the printed book?
    A.Hopeless. B.Unpredictable. C.Costly. D.Promising.
As global warming becomes more and more serious, each one of us must take action to help.
    First, diet.
Changing what you eat could easily have a significant effect because animal agriculture creates about 14% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions (排放). 36 Each kilo consumed produces 26.5 kilos of CO2 emissions, five times more than chicken or turkey. Changing to plant-based diets could reduce emissions greatly.
    Second, travel.
Nearly all transport relies on fossil fuels. In the US, driving one mile in an average 2016 car emits 404 grams of CO2 equivalents per mile. But taking nearly any other means of transport will reduce CO2 emissions. 37
    Third, energy.
38 But a few quick changes can make a difference. Switch from incandescent (白炽灯) lights to LEDs. They use a quarter of the energy and last 25 times longer. And taking for showers, the average water heater is set to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. But bringing it down by 20 degrees can save 250 kilograms of CO2.
    Fourth, waste.
Think before you buy. The fashion industry creates about 10% of global greenhouse emissions and consumes more energy than flight and shipping combined. 39 If you' re buying food, bring your own containers and just get the amount you need.
Last but not least, plant a garden.
Plant a garden instead of building a yard out of cement (水泥), the production of which creates 8% of global CO2 emissions a year. ____40____
So from a burger to a cyclist, no one thing will have a big influence, but lots of little things can.
A.Almost every household appliance needs it.
B.When you do make a purchase, try to buy it in large quantity.
C.Planting a garden helps reduce CO2 emissions and produce oxygen.
D.Each of us contributes a particular amount of CO2 into the atmosphere.
E.As we all know, the environment around us is getting worse and worse.
F.After walking, cycling is the best choice because it almost has no emissions.
G.In 2017, beef was found to be one of the most damaging foods to the climate.

One day, Dad took Tim and Lily to the supermarket. "Now where has Tim gone? " asked Dad. Lily shrugged. Keeping track of Tim was not on her agenda today. She'd been trying to decide on the perfect gift for Dad's upcoming birthday. This year, she was determined to prepare a present that couldn't be bought at a store or ordered online.
"Daddy!" Tim appeared out of nowhere, disturbing Lily's thoughts. He yelled, holding a cereal (麦片) box in the air, "Let's get it! It's nutritious and delicious! And it has a dragon inside! " Tim remembered Dad saying that when he was a kid, almost every box of cereal(麦片) came with a toy. Ever since, Tim was certain that he, too, would find a toy in the next box.
When they got home, Dad and Lily began putting away the groceries. Tim couldn't wait to take the box of cereal upstairs to his room. By the time they finished, Lily could hear Tim shouting. "No! No!" Tim's voice kept getting louder and louder. Lily imagined each word as the sound of a hammer striking metal. Then she raced towards her brother's room. The moment she stepped inside, she felt a crunch (嘎吱声) beneath her feet. It was obvious that Tim dumped all that cereal looking for a toy dragon. "They lied! No dragon. Just a picture on the box." Tim sounded close to tears. Annoyed as Lily was, she said quietly, "Let's see what the box says." "I don't know how to read." her brother said in a low voice.
It reminded Lily that last school year, Tim's teacher who sent home easy-to-read books and worksheets insisted that he was ready to learn to read and just needed some extra help, but Tim complained about books "for babies" and "boring" homework assignments. It was really a headache for Dad to teach Tim to read! At the thought of these, it seemed that Tim's dragon issue had swept away her concern for a present for Dad.
    注意:
    1. 续写词数应为 150 左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

    第四部分 写作
    66.应用文写作参考范文:
    Dear James,
I am awfully sorry that you are so stressed that it has affected your study and life. However, the situation can’t be unchangeable if you take the following suggestions.
To begin with, keep a balance between study and rest. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Additionally, it’s highly recommended to have brief conversations with your close friends or trustworthy teachers, from whom you are bound to get confidence. Most importantly, you’ll be more organized and less likely to be affected by pressure if you make a regular learning schedule.
Please take my suggestions into account. I’m convinced everything will be better and may you succeed this summer.
    Yours,
    Li Hua
Lily decided to cooperate with Tim, making up a dragon story and having Tim read for Dad. “What a good idea it is! Dad must be satisfied with such a special present!” Lily thought to herself, feeling a surge of excitement. She couldn’t wait to share it with Tim. Unexpectedly, he shook his head in disapproval. Aware that Tim was not confident with himself, Lily cast an encouraging look at him, saying, “I’ll help you, and I’m sure you’ll make it.” Tim nodded. In the following days, Lily taught him to read with great patience. Then, a new dragon story was born. Meanwhile, Tim also learned to read the story they made up.
After what seemed to be a century, Dad’s birthday finally came. They told Dad to sit in the middle of the couch. Lily stood in front of Dad while Tim stood behind her. “This is a present from both of us! A dragon story written by us!” Lily announced and she could feel Dad was in surprise. When it was Tim’s turn to read the story, he turned to the first page, reading slowly. Having finished, he caught sight of Dad wiping tears off his eyes. “This is the best birthday present I have ever received!” he said, holding both children in his arms. It was at that time that Tim seemed to have grown up.

W: Not yet, but I want to learn it next term. So far I have already mastered Japanese, Chinese and English.
    Text 5
W: Mike, I want to talk with you right now.
    M: What’s up?
W: You promised to hand in perfect homework, but it is full of mistakes.
    Text 6
M: Could you help me figure out how to get ready for my job interview?
W: The most important thing is to make sure you know the company and what services or products it provides. Do you know all about them?
M: Yes, I understand nearly everything about the company.
W: What’s more, you have to decide whether the company is casual or formal. When you are choosing what to wear, keep all of that in mind. Have you chosen what to wear in the company?
    M: No, not yet.
W: I’m always ready to go shopping with you! Anytime you need help, please let me know. Should we talk about other basics?
    M: OK, I’m listening.
    Text 7
W: Ted, can I borrow your notebook for chemistry?
    M: Here you are.
W: You are a great help, Ted.
M: I don’t quite understand why you need my note book. You do well in making notes.
W: Well, recently, I have to work in a restaurant from 7 o’clock to 10 o’clock every evening. And sometimes I can’t follow the teacher.
M: Oh, that’s really bad for your study. Do you have to work part-time?
W: Yeah. My father lost his job two months ago and I must make some money by myself.
M: Hmm, I understand. Please take care of yourself!
    W: Thanks.
    Text 8
W: Excuse me, sir. I’m a bit lost. Could you help me out, please?
M: Sure! I can give you directions. I know this area well. I’ve been living here for ten years. Where are you heading?
W: I need to find a gas station. My car is low on gas.
M: Alright. Go down this road and drive on for about two more miles.
W: OK. Is it on this road?
M: No. Take the third left and go for about half a mile. You will get to the gas station?
W: Is the gas station on the left side or the right side of the road?
M: It will be on the right.
W: What does it look like?
M: It has a red roof. You can’t miss it.
    W: Thanks a lot!
    Text 9
W: Jack, I think we should get a small family car?
M: What? You mean we should sell my sports car! Never!
W: But it’s expensive to run and it’s really old. You bought it long before I met you.
M: That’s true but I never have any trouble with it! It always starts at once when I press the starter!
W: It didn’t start at once yesterday morning!
M: That was only because it was so cold now in winter!
W: Good cars should starts easily in any season.
M: That’s right but I still don’t want to sell my sports car. It’s my old friend.

    Text 10
Once there was a pianist in a bar. People came just to hear him play. But one night, a lady was tired of listening to the piano and asked him to sing a song. So he did. He had never sung in public before. Now he was singing for the very first time! Nobody had expected he could sing so beautifully! All the people present had a good time and the pianist was also very happy because he found that he could sing well.
He may have lived the rest of his life as a no-name pianist in a no-name bar. Now he found, by accident, his ability to sing, so he went on working hard on singing. Later, the pianist became one of the best-known singers in the US. His name was Nat King Cole. You, too, have skills and abilities that you haven’t found. You may not feel that your talent is great, but it may be better than you think. With hard work, most skills can be improved. Besides, you may have no success at all if you do nothing about your talent.

根据第二段中“They just pulled me out of bed after an all-night shift (夜班), and they expect me to get you to Seattle in time to catch your flight. Good Luck!”(我刚刚下夜班,他们就把我从床上叫起来,并希望我及时将你们送到西雅图,我只能说祝你们好运了!)
根据第三段中“A worried, angry woman said, 'Well, what if I don't like it?' ”(一个焦急、愤怒的女人说:“如果我不喜欢它怎么办?”)可知,当我决定弹琴时,并不是所有人都赞成,故选B。
26.词义猜测题。根据第四段中“We drove off, and the tension (紧张) made the atmosphere in the bus horrendous! ”(我们开车走了,车上的紧张气氛让人horrendous!)可知,根据“the tension”可知,划线词应该是“不好,很糟糕”的意思,故选C。

28.推理判断题。根据第三段Now I speak Mandarin every day as my wife doesn’t speak English. Nowadays, it’s almost necessary to be able to speak more than just your mother tongue.(现在我每天说普通话,因为我妻子不会说英语。
根据第二段“The learning of any language can be valuable and useful, but it is not suitable for everyone. Chinese is a difficult language to learn and the UK is said to be bad at learning foreign languages. Why should they learn Chinese when most people in the world speak English?任何语言的学习都可能是有价值和有用的,但它并不适合每个人。汉语是一种很难学的语言,而且据说英国不擅长学习外语。世界上大部分人都说英语,他们为什么要学中文?)”可知,D选项China is not as developed a country as the UK 未被提到,所以应except D, 故选D。
根据文章最后一段“If China really is going to lead the world, it’ll have to do so by speaking the world ‘s leading language— English(如果中国真的要领导世界,它必须说世界上最主要的语言——英语)”可推知不必要学汉语,故选B。
故选A。
    D篇

根据第三段前两句“For nearly twenty years, additionally, futurists have been predicting the development of printed books. The conventional view has been that digital e-books are on the verge of replacing paper books.(此外,近二十年来,未来学家一直在预测印刷书籍的发展。普遍观点认为,数字电子书即将取代纸质书)”可知,未来学家认为未来电子书将取代印刷书籍。由此推知,未来学家可能会同意印刷书籍即将消失这个观点。故选A。
根据倒数第二段第一句“I believe that the online publishing has not taken off because people want real books.(我认为在线出版并没有成功是因为人们想要真正的书)”可知,在线出版没有成功的原因是人们对印刷书籍的需求。故选D。
根据最后一段第一句“To sum up, there is no denying that the printed book is still very much preferred over its digital cousins.(综上所述,不可否认的是,印刷书籍仍然比数字书籍更受欢迎)”及最后一句“People are still very interested in real books and notebooks.(人们仍然对真正的书籍和笔记本非常感兴趣)”可以看出,作者认为印刷书籍的未来是有希望的。
36.根据下文“Each kilo consumed produces 26.5 kilos of CO2 emissions, five times more than chicken or turkey.(每消耗一公斤会产生26.5公斤的二氧化碳排放,是鸡肉或火鸡的五倍)”可知,选项承接下文说明牛肉对气候的不良影响。
37.根据上文“But taking nearly any other means of transport will reduce CO2 emissions.(但是使用几乎任何其他的交通工具都会减少二氧化碳的排放)”可知,选项承接上文,说明一种环保的出行方式。
38.根据标题“energy(能源)”及下文“Switch from incandescent (白炽灯) lights to LEDs. They use a quarter of the energy and last 25 times longer. And taking for showers, the average water heater is set to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. But bringing it down by 20 degrees can save 250 kilograms of CO2.(从白炽灯切换到LED灯。它们消耗四分之一的能量,寿命是前者的25倍。淋浴时,热水器的平均温度设为华氏140度。但是将温度降低20度可以减少250公斤的二氧化碳)”可知,选项承接标题说明能源在家庭中的重要性。故A选项“几乎所有的家用电器都需要它。”切题。故选A项。
39.根据上文“The fashion industry creates about 10% of global greenhouse emissions and consumes more energy than flight and shipping combined.(时尚产业产生了约10%的全球温室气体排放,消耗的能源比飞行和航运的总和还要多)”可知,选项承接上文说明在购买时的数量很大,对环境造成了不好的影响。
40.根据上文“Plant a garden instead of building a yard out of cement (水泥), the production of which creates 8% of global CO2 emissions a year.(种植一个花园,而不是用水泥建造一个花园,水泥的生产每年产生全球8%的二氧化碳排放)”可知,选项承接上文说明种植一个花园对环境的益处。
    42. C 根据"the waitress realized that the mom was talking in sign language to her little boy"可知,Tom 不能用正常的语言交流,耳朵里戴有助听器(hearing aid)。
    43. B 根据"that it was Tom's birthday"可知,女服务员了解到( learned)那天是 Tom 的生日。
She went to the Internet"可知,她在网上查找(looked up)如何用手语说“生日快乐”。
    45. A根据"how to say 'happy birthday' in sign language"可知,女服务员来到 Tom 的桌前用手语说(signed):“祝你生日快乐!”
    46. D 根据"Later, Tom's mom said this was the first time he had in sign language with people other than her and his teacher."
    47. C 根据"in sign language with people"可知,此处表示用手语与他人交流(talked)。
根据"it was an important gift for Tom"可知,此处是信息词 gift 的复现。
Then, she went up to Tom's table and to him , 'Happy birthday to you!'"
    51. D根据"She added that the from the waitress made her very moved."
    52. B 根据"My boy was always worried"和"when he was talking in sign language"可推测,Tom 担心自己用手语说话时,会显得很滑稽(funny)。
    53. B 根据"Then, she went up to Tom's table and to him, 'Happy birthday to you!'"
    55. C根据"he saw that someone tried to talk to him in his language"可知,他看到有人真的试图用他的特殊语言和他说话,这一点对他而言尤其重要(important)。

故填are invited。
故填it。
故填made。
设空前有介词of和形容词great修饰,应用名词形式;be of importance意为“重要的”,相当于be important。
故填at。
故填a。
