(2022春·江苏常州·八年级统考期中)The next day, I was getting restless(焦躁不安) and wanted to take a boat across the river to see what was going on over there. Jim thought of a good idea.
“Here, Huck,” he said, “Put it on.” He handed over one of the dresses that they’d gotten from that old house.
“Why would I wear this?” I asked.
“Because nobody will recognize(认出) you if you wear this.”
That seemed like a good idea to me. Jim pulled that dress over my head and buttoned(扣扣子) it up, and I rolled(卷) my trouser legs up to my knees. Then Jim put a sunbonnet(太阳帽) on my head and tied it under my chin(下巴). He walked back and looked me over.
“Huck, you look just like a girl. Nobody can recognize you even in the daylight.”
I practised walking around to get the hang of(掌握……窍门) it. Jim said I didn’t walk like a girl, and that I should stop lifting my dress up to get to my trouser pockets. I practised hard. Then when it got dark, I jumped onto the boat and sailed to the shore(岸边).
I crossed over to the edge of town and started up along the shore, I saw a light burning in an old cabin(小屋). I slipped up and peeked in the window. There was a woman inside, knitting(织毛线) by candlelight.
She was a stranger(陌生人), which was lucky for me. I was dressed like a girl, but I didn’t want anyone to recognize my voice. I knocked on the door.
“Come in,” the woman said. So I did.
“Take a chair, ” she told me. I sat down next to her.
She looked me over with her shiny eyes, “And what might your name be?”

Young Chinese used to go shopping and go to the movies in their spare time. But now more and more of them get interested in a new way of having fun. They enjoy playing a puzzle-solving game(解谜游戏) known as “an escape room(密室逃脱)”.
In an escape room, a team of players work together to find useful information, work out puzzles and finish tasks to get out of a closed space. In such a game, different modern technologies(技术), like virtual reality(虚拟现实) and 5G, are used to create a fantastic world. Live actors(现场演员) also communicate with players to make the experience more real. With all of these, players will throw themselves into a story and pay their attention to their final goal(目标)—getting out of the room in a race against the clock.
Pu Yixing is an avid player of this game. Every time he arrives in a new city, the young man will play the game there. He sees the game as a new way of socializing(社交).“People spend two hours finding an untold story and trying to run away from a room. It’s a great experience for every player to enjoy,”Pu said.
He Shu, the director of a popular escape room program, says this game needs teamwork, speed, problem-solving skills, creativity and patience(创造力和耐心) of players. “It gives players a strong sense of achievement(成就) when they complete tasks and breakout of a room. It needs their reasoning(推理) skills and good teamwork,” she said.“It’s a good ice-breaking tool to make new friends as well as grow closer to old ones.”
So why is this puzzle-solving game so popular? According to a study, the younger generation(一代) is spending more money on experiences than on products(产品). (2022春·江苏扬州·八年级校考期中)The bushes rustled a little in the bushes, and Father Wolf dropped with his back legs under him, ready for his jump. Then, the most wonderful thing happened. Father Wolf stopped in the middle of his jump. He jumped before he saw what he was jumping at, and then he tried to stop himself. The result was that he jumped straight up into the air for four or five feet, and came down nearly where he left the ground.
“Man!” he said quickly. “A man cub. Look!”
Directly in front of him, holding on by a low branch, stood a naked(裸体的) brown baby. He was small and soft. He looked up into Father Wolf’s face, and laughed.
“Is that a man cub?” asked Mother Wolf. “I have never seen one. Bring it here.”
A wolf can, if necessary, hold an egg in his mouth without breaking it. And although Father Wolf’s jaws closed down on the child’s back, he did not even scratch his skin as he laid him down among the wolf cubs.
“How little! How naked, and how brave!” said Mother Wolf softly. The baby was moving between the cubs to get close to their warm skin. “Aha! He is taking his meal with the others. And so this is a man cub. Now, was there ever a wolf that could say she had a man cub among her children?”

    (2022春·江苏扬州·八年级校考期中)
At about noon one weekday in Maizidian, a busy business area in Beijing, office workers come in and out of a convenience (便利) store just as usual. Nearly all carry packaged (包装的) meats and drinks before hurrying back to work.
The store, owned by the Bianlifeng, sells 800 to 1,000 packaged meals, usually including rice and several smaller dishes, at lunchtime every workday. About 80 percent of the buyers are white-collar workers according to Bianlifeng. Reasonable (合理的) prices, convenience and quality of ready-to-eat meals have changed convenience stores into “kitchens” for many city workers.
Zhang Hui, 32, a manager at a foreign company in Shanghai, goes to these stores for most of her meals. She spends less than 10 yuan on breakfast, including steamed stuffed buns, porridge or soybean milk, and about 20 yuan on packaged meals for lunch and dinner each day. “When I’m in hurry, or when I have to eat alone, I will choose ready-to-eat foods in convenience stores, which are fast and make buying easy. This also saves me from feeling uncomfortable about eating alone in a restaurant.” Zhang said. “Moreover, the taste of such foods is acceptable.”
China has about 122,000 convenience stores, mainly in first-tier and second-tier cities (一线二线城市). With the changes of modern society, people seem to have faster lives. Most of them now don’t have as much time to cook as before. With more disposable income (可支配收入), people are more willing to spend on convenience. And now they are giving more importance to the environment and food safety. Ready-to-eat foods in convenience stores can meet these needs, mainly for a large number of young single people. Half of the buyers at convenience stores are those from 20 to 29, and more than 30 percent of them are office workers.
37.The following are the reasons for choosing convenience stores EXCEPT ________.
    A.real convenience B.modern kitchens
    C.acceptable taste D.ready-to-eat quality
38.What does the underlined word “This” mean in paragraph 3?
    A.Zhang Hui’s self-cooking at home.
    B.Zhang Hui’s eating alone in a restaurant.
    C.Zhang Hui’s choice of ready-to-eat foods.
D.Zhang Hui’s hurry to work without having meals.
39.Which of the following sentences is TRUE?
A.China’s convenience stores are only in big cities.
B.People care more about the environment and food safety.
C.People in big cities have as much time to cook as before.
D.Zhang Hui spends less than 20 yuan in convenience stores every day.
40.The main idea of the passage is ________.
    A.what convenience stores sell
    B.how people like convenience stores
    C.why convenience stores are popular
D.where people can find convenience stores

(2022春·江苏扬州·八年级校考期中)When you are shopping for the week’s food, you may get a large box or two of bottled water. On your way to a soccer game, it’s easy to take a cold one out of the fridge, right?
But all those plastic bottles use a lot of fossil fuels(矿物燃料). In fact, Americans buy more bottled water than any other country in the world, about 29 billion water bottles a year. In order to make all these bottles, 17 million barrels(桶)of crude oil are used. That’s enough oil to keep a million cars going for twelve months.
Americans drink bottled water because they think it is better for them than water out of the tap, but that’s not true. In the United States, local governments make sure water from the tap is safe. People love the convenience(便利)of bottled water. But maybe if they realized the problems it causes, they would try drinking from a glass at home or carrying water in a steel container instead of a plastic bottle.
Plastic bottles pollute the environment but recycling(回收)can help—instead of going out with the rubbish, plastic bottles can be turned into useful items. Sadly, for every six water bottles we use, only one makes it to the recycling bin. The rest are sent to landfills. Or, even worse, they end up as rubbish on the land and in rivers, lakes, and the ocean. Plastic bottles take many hundreds of years to disintegrate under the ground.
Betty Mclaughlin, who runs an organization called the Container Recycling Institute, says we should try using fewer bottles: “If you take one to school in your lunch, don’ t throw it away—bring it home and refill it from the tap for the next day. You refill a bottle as many times as you can before you recycle it.”
Remember this: Recycling one plastic bottle can save enough energy to power a 60-watt(瓦)light bulb for six hours.
41.Which one is NOT the reason why Americans like bottled water?
A.Because it is cleaner. B.Because it is cheaper.
C.Because it is healthier. D.Because it is easier to take with.
42.In Paragraph 2, how does the writer support the fact?
A.By giving numbers. B.By telling reasons.
C.By expressing opinions. D.By discussing problems.
43.The word “disintegrate” in Paragraph 4 probably means “________”.
A.turn into rubbish B.become useful C.break into pieces D.mix with water
44.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this article?
A.To tell us to give up bottled water. B.To tell us to save natural resources.
C.To tell us to protect the environment. D.To tell us to reuse and recycle plastic bottles.

(2022春·江苏苏州·八年级校考期中)In the 1930s, Dan West was farming in Spain. It was wartime, and people were getting very hungry. As he handed out cups of milk to children, an idea hit him. “These children don’t need a cup. They need a cow.” This was the start of Heifer International.
    Send Some Cows
Do you think a nice gift is a bike or a CD? Heifer International gives different kinds of presents. Its presents might say “quack” or “moo.” Dan West asked friends in the United States to give gifts of heifers (小母牛), or young cows. Since then, Heifer International has given animals to four million families. It gives people the chance to feed themselves.

(2022春·江苏苏州·八年级校考期中)Right now, the biggest source of energy(能源) in the world is fossil fuel(矿物燃料). Fossil fuels are oil, gas, and coal (煤).   More than 80 percent of the world’s energy comes from fossil fuel. There are many problems with fossil fuel. One problem is that when fossil fuel is burned, it pollutes the air. Also, when we take fossil fuel from the Earth, we often cause a lot of harm. Another problem is that we’re running out of it.
A big source of energy for many countries is nuclear power(核能).Thirty-one countries use nuclear power. A lot of ships also use it.
Nuclear power has some advantages(优点). First of all, we can’t run out of nuclear power. Nuclear power does not make the air dirty. Also, if a country has nuclear power, it doesn’t need to buy as much oil from other countries.
However, there are also a lot of problems that come with nuclear power. For example, nuclear accidents are very serious. In 1986, there was a nuclear accident in Russia. In the next 20 years, about 4,000 people got sick and died. In 2011 there was another very serious nuclear accident in Japan. That was several years ago, but Japan is still trying to clean up the nuclear waste from the accident.
Many people don’t want nuclear power in their countries. They say that it’s not safe. A lot of people in the United States, Russia, France, Japan, India, and many other countries want their countries to use safer and cleaner ways to get electricity(电力). Sometimes they get together to show their strong disagreement with nuclear energy.
Many people hate nuclear energy, but more and more countries are using it. One reason for this is that the world is using more and more energy. We just don’t have enough fossil fuel. However, if we use nuclear power, then we may have more serious problems in the future.

(2022春·江苏苏州·八年级校考期中)Imagine you are watching a movie you've been waiting months to see at a movie theater. All of a sudden, a man's cell phone rings. Not only does the man answer it, he keeps talking on the phone for a long time. Situations like this make many people need cell blocking equipment (屏蔽设备). While this is quite understandable, it's much fairer and safer to allow people to use their cell phones in movie theaters.
Using cell phones in movie theaters is a matter of culture. If you look around a theater, most people there are not using phones and are enjoying the film they paid to see. The few bad apples are those that are rude (粗鲁的) in almost all situations, and those who shout at waiters and cut in line. Putting in the blocking equipment would cause trouble for everyone, not just the impolite, but the polite people as well.
There are also some people who disagree to put in cell phone blocking equipment because of emergency situations (紧急情况). There are times when people might be getting a message that needs them to leave the theater. Some of these might be car accidents, births, deaths, or someone getting locked out etc. All of these are situations that would just need someone to leave the theater at once.
Putting in cell phone blocking equipment would be unfair to those who know how to use their phones politely. The answer to this problem is to make sure rules are followed, not to stop everyone in the theater from using their cell phones.
56.The man mentioned in Paragraph 1 can be described as ________.
    A.shy B.impolite C.friendly D.strict
57.According to the text, the bad apples ________.
A.are rude not just in movie theaters B.show no interest in the movies at all
C.welcome the blocking equipment D.like to spend money on the newest phone
58.How does the writer explain that cell blocking equipment is bad for emergency situations?
A.By giving examples. B.By comparing two situations.
    C.By giving advice. D.By sharing a saying.
59.Which of the following shows the structure of the text? (P=Paragraph)
    A. B. C. D.

(2022春·江苏盐城·八年级校考期中)It seems strange that while three quarters of the world is covered with water, we sill don’t have enough fresh, clean and safe drinking water. Most of the earth’s water is salt water of the seas. Less than 3% of the water in the world is fresh. 68.7% of fresh water is in the form of ice in the polar areas(极地), and much fresh water is polluted and dangerous to use. Some diseases spread by polluted water are the most common causes for death among children under five in the poor countries.
In some countries, women and children spend much of their time going out to collect water. They often walk many kilometers each day to get just enough water for their families to cook, wash and drink. And they can’t carry back much because they have to walk over rough(坑注的) fields and carry a heavy bucket(水桶).
Children have to help their mothers carry water, so they may not be able to go to school, or they may be so tired when they get there that they have difficulty studying. They may even have to spend the whole day without drinking any water as there may not be any clean water at school, either.
A large part of UNICEF’s work is bringing safe water to people in need of it. Last year, UNICEF built up almost 90,000 water systems(系统) for 20 million people. It just wants to help more people keep alive. A well(井) may mean the difference between life and death.

(2022春·江苏盐城·八年级校考期中)Have you ever had the strange feeling that you were being watched? You turned around and, sure enough, someone was looking right at you!
Parapsychologists(灵学家) say that humans have a natural ability to sense when someone is looking at them. To study if such a “sixth sense” really exists(存在), Robert Baker, a psychologist at the University of Kentucky, did two experiments(实验).
In the first one, Baker sat behind unknowing people in public places and stared(盯着看) at the backs of their heads for 5 to 15 minutes. The subjects(受试者) were eating, drinking, reading, studying, watching TV, or working at a computer. Baker made sure that the people could not tell that he was sitting behind them during those periods. Later, when he questioned the subjects, almost all of them said they had no sense that someone was staring at them.
For the second experiment, Baker told the subjects that they would be stared at from time to time from behind. The people had to write down when they felt they were being stared at and when they weren’t. Baker found that the subjects were no better at telling when they were stared at and when they weren’t.
Baker concludes that people do not have the ability to sense when they’re being stared at. If people don’t believe the outcome of his two experiments, said Baker, “I advise they repeat the experiments and see for themselves.”
66.What’s the purpose of the two experiments?
A.To explain why humans have a sixth sense.
B.To show how people act while being watched.
C.To explain when people can have a sixth sense.
D.To study if humans can sense when they are stared at.
67.What sense do humans have according to parapsychologists?
A.A natural ability. B.A looking feeling. C.A strange thinking. D.A natural staring ability.
68.The underlined word “outcome” in the last paragraph means ________.
    A.fact B.result C.example D.content
69.What can we learn from the passage?
A.People are born with a sixth sense.
B.People have a sixth sense in all places.
    C.The experiments support parapsychologists’ idea.
D.The subjects do not have a sixth sense in the experiments.

(2022春·江苏盐城·八年级校考期中)The next day, I wanted to take a boat across the river to see what was going on over there. Jim came up with a good idea.
“Here, Huck,” he said. “Put it on.” He took out one of the dresses that they got from that old house.

(2022春·江苏南通·八年级统考期中)There are many things we need to know that we can not learn at school. For example, if we want to use our money wisely, we need to shop carefully. We need to know how to compare the prices of the things in different shops. We need to be able to compare the quality (质量) of different brands (品牌). We need to know how to make choices (选择) when we shop. Knowing how to make such choices is a life skill, and we need the skill if we want to live useful and happy lives. Some of the choices are small. For example, will I take an apple or a pear for lunch? Will I go to school by bus or on foot? Will I wear the red T-shirt or the blue one to the movies? Other choices are more important. For example, will I eat healthy food for lunch or will I eat junk food because it is tastier? Will I work hard in all my classes or will I only work hard in the classes I enjoy? We make choices like these every day.
We have to realize that the choices we make can influence the rest of our lives. Just as importantly, our choices can also influence other people. (2022春·江苏南通·八年级统考期中)Life is like a train ride. We get on. We ride. We get off. We get back on and ride some more. There are accidents and there are delays(延误). At certain stops, there are surprises. Some of these will change into great moments of joy; some will result in bad results.
When we are born and we first get on the train, we meet people who we think will be with us for the whole journey. Those people are our parents. Sadly, this is far from the truth. Our parents are with us when we completely need them. They also, have journeys they must complete. We live on with the memories of their love, support and so on.
There are others who get on the train and who finally become very important to us. These people are our brothers, sisters and friends, whom we will learn to love and take care of.
Some people regard their journey as a pleasant tour. They will just go happily along. Others will encounter many upsets, tears and losses(失落) on their journey. Some others will stay on to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.
Some people on the train will leave a deep impression(印象) when they get off. Some will get on and get off the train so quickly that they will hardly leave a sign.
We will sometimes be upset that some passengers, whom we love, will choose to sit in another compartment(车厢) and leave us to travel on our own. Then again, there’s nothing that says we can’t look for them anyway. But when we find them, we may not even be able to sit next to them because that seat will already be taken.
That’s okay… everyone’s journey will be filled with hopes, dreams, challenges, difficulties and goodbyes.

During the two sessions (两会), Lei Jun, the founder (创始人) of China’s tech company Xiaomi, called for more e-waste recycling (回收利用) plans in China.
According to the 2020 UN Global E-waste Monitor, the world’s e-waste will reach 74.7 million tons by 2030.
The report also found that only 17.4 percent of the world’s e-waste was collected and recycled in 2019. This means that gold, silver, copper (铜) and other high-value materials were mostly burned or throw instead of reused. It’s a waste of 57 billion dollars, or 360 billion yuan. E-waste can also harm the environment and people’s health. For example, one mobile phone battery can pollute 600,000 liters of water.
China is now the world’s largest producer of e-waste, followed by the US, India and Japan, according to the UN report. Tech companies are looking for different ways to solve the problem. For example, US company Apple built a robot called Daisy to take 200 iPhones apart. It can take 200 iPhones apart within an hour. Previously the phones were cut up before people took the useful materials out. Now with Daisy, valuable materials can be pulled out more easily.
Samsung plans to use recycled materials in all of its new products by the year 2025. It also plans to reduce e-waste by improving product life cycles. Xiaomi is also setting up e-waste recycling platforms so that people can donate or sell their old electronics more easily.
113.What did Lei Jun advise people to do?
A.To reduce the use of e-products. B.To buy more smartphones.
    C.To recycle more e-waste. D.To improve China’s e-products.
114.In which year did the amount of e-waste reach about 74.7 million tons?
    A.2014. B.2019. C.2020. D.2030.
115.According to the passage, what can be caused by dumping e-waste?
    A.Waste of materials. B.Harm to public health. C.Environmental pollution. D.A, B and C.
116.Why does the writer mention (提及) Apple’s Daisy, Samsung and Xiaomi?
A.To discuss reasons for dealing with e-waste.
B.To show people’s daily life in the US, Korea and China.

D.To advise our country to work together with others.

Gulliver enjoyed travelling. He worked as a doctor on a ship called the Antelope. On May 4, 1699, they were going to the Far East.
