He was bigger and stronger than White Fang and always won their fights. White Fang knew that he could not win a fight against Lip-Lip. He thought that he had to do something else to teach the dog a lesson.

When Lip-Lip ran after him, he led Lip-Lip to the place where his mother stayed. When Lip-Lip got close to her, she turned Lip-Lip over and bit him until she let him go, but White Fang had a bigger problem.
Lip-Lip was the leader of the other dogs. They followed him and obeyed him. None of them would become friends with White Fang. Whenever he came near them, they attacked him.

Another man came after White Fang in his boat. He lifted White Fang out of the water. White Fang tried to get away from the man, but the man hit him and threw him into the boat.
④White Fang was now very angry because he wanted to be with his mother. He forgot how powerful men were, and he bit the man. The man was so angry that he beat White Fang again and again. The man hurt him badly.

(2022春·江苏无锡·八年级无锡市东林中学校考期中)Searching for parking spaces has long been a headache for many office workers in many big cities of China, especially for those working in central business districts. Parking near their companies for five days a week could cost them a lot of money. At the same time, even with prices for parking lots in residential areas(居民区) rising, most of their spaces remain idle during workdays.
Now a new form of sharing economy has appeared in China—the shared parking space. It has become a huge market in some big cities. In Qingdao, a coastal city in Shandong, up to 10,000 personal parking spaces have been turned into shared ones with the help of “Airparking”, an online shared parking platform developed by a network company from Guangzhou.
Users can share and order a parking place by downloading and using a special app. Owners who have idle parking spaces can share some information, including the parking position, license number and time limit on the platform. With the information, users can easily find the nearest place to park. The average parking cost for shared parking is 4 yuan each hour, almost the same as the service cost in traditional parking spaces.
Qingdao is one of the Chinese cities that encourage shared parking. Some other big cites, including Beijing, Shanghai and Hefei, have also begun to try this idea. The Shanghai government, for example, has set up more than 6,500 shared parking spaces to encourage the public to use. Shared parking will be more and more helpful to the drivers.

(2022春·江苏无锡·八年级统考期中)Lisa stood next to her tall silent grandfather and watched her parents drive off, leaving her behind. She looked up at her grandfather. He looked down at her. His skin was a little darker than hers. His hair was black and white, as if it couldn’t decide which colour it should be.
“You don’t talk much, Grandpa.” Lisa said.
“You don’t visit much, Lisa.” her grandfather replied.
They stood looking at each other. “Come with me, Lisa.” said Grandpa. He started walking without looking back.
Lisa followed him to a large storehouse. Lisa remembered her last visit to Grandpa’s. She had played hide-and-seek with her brother Jack in the storehouse. But now Jack needed an operation. Lisa had to stay here alone for a few days.
“You coming?” Grandpa’s voice sounded muffled. His words were coming inside the storehouse.
Lisa went inside. The storehouse was full of all kinds of things. She could see him in the far corner. Lisa walked over and stood next to him. He pointed to a small wooden box with “Lisa” painted on it in bright-green letters.
    “Yours.” he said.
Lisa bent down and opened it. In it were some old things—a bright blue feather, a tiny V-shape leaf and some dolls. She looked up at Grandpa, with tears in her eyes.
“The box stays here, but it belonged to you. No one else!” Then he closed his eyes and smiled. His smile reminded Lisa of her father. Grandpa no longer seemed strange and silent.
“I may be so overcapitalized (资本过剩),” Lisa answered, carefully pronouncing the familiar word.
Grandpa laughed out loud. “How did that eight-year-old brain of yours find its way around a big word like ‘overcapitalized’?”
“It’s my dad’s favourite word.” Lisa replied.
Grandpa looked down at Lisa and smiled. His smile again reminded Lisa of her father. Without thinking, she reached up and took Grandpa’s hand. Lisa’s hand felt small and safe inside her grandfather’s.
“I might need more than one visit to my box.” Lisa said seriously.
    “I expect.” Grandpa said.

(2022春·江苏盐城·八年级校联考期中)    Table manners are how to behave when you eat a meal. They include how to handle knives, forks and spoons and how to eat in a polite manner. To behave well abroad, you should know some table manners.
    EATING MANNERS
Japan: It is “perfectly” okay to slurp(发出啧啧的声音) when you eat noodles. Unlike making big noise, slurping slightly is not rude. Japanese also say it tastes better if you slurp.
Russia: Your wrists(手腕) should be placed on the edge of the table while eating, fork in the left hand, and knife in the right. It is not good manners to rest them on your laps. Keep your elbows off the table. Leave some food on your plate to show that the host has given you enough to eat.
France: Never discuss money or religion over dinner. What is different from the manners in Russia is that finishing everything on your plate is considered good manners.
Mexico: Whenever you catch the eye of someone who’s eating, even a stranger, it’s good manners to say “provecho”. It means “enjoy”. In Mexico, dining is more than a meal. It’s a social occasion — lunches are seldom quick and suppers can last for hours. Where you sit is very important in the country. Before you get seated, look for place cards or wait until the host seats you. And you must say “enjoy your meal” before you leave the table.
    DRINKING MANNERS
America: If you empty a bottle into someone’s glass, it obliges(迫使) that person to buy the next bottle. It’s polite to put the last drops into your own glass.

(2022春·江苏无锡·八年级统考期中)Now, almost everybody knows the hottest English word "selfie". Selfie is a photo that one takes of oneself, according to the Oxford (牛津) online dictionary. People usually take selfies with a smart phone and send them to Wechat (微信) or Qzone (QQ 空间).
"Almost every day, I take a photo of myself at school, and save it in my Qzone," said Huang Xu, 13, from Hunan. These photos record her happy and sad moments.
Pop stars also take a lot of selfies. Li Chunping, 14, from Harbin, is a big fan of Yang Mi. "She has used many selfies to tell us about her life and work," said Li.
What makes people love selfies? Some people say it’s narcissism (自恋). "The rise of the selfie is a perfect symbol for our narcissistic culture. We’re crying out: Look at me!" said US psychiatrist(精神科医生) Carole Lieberman.
Young people are using selfies to make friends online, Jonathan Freedland wrote in the Guardian. (《卫报》) "The usual purpose of taking a selfie is to share online. They express a human need to connect with others," wrote Freedland.
Huang Xu agrees with that. “During the summer vacation, my classmates and I shared many selfies online. Hair or clothes were not our interests. Through these photos, we got to know each other’s holidays and feelings,” said Huang Xu.
40.According to the story, a "selfie" is  ________________.
A.a person with a smart phone B.a smart phone which can take photos
C.a photo taken by oneself D.an English dictionary
41.We can tell from the story that _____________.
A.only famous people enjoy taking selfies
B.people love to share selfies online
C.all the people love selfies because of narcissism
D.US psychiatrist Carole Lieberman hates selfies
42.We put the sentence “But some people don’t see it that way.” at the beginning of ______.
    A.Paragraph 3 B.Paragraph 4 C.Paragraph 5 D.Paragraph 6

(2022春·江苏无锡·八年级统考期中)How to sing like a superstar is a question people have been asking for ages. We naturally admire(羡慕)the stars we want to sound like when we’re young and just experimenting(尝试)with singing. But as we get older, we find that we have our own voice.
In my opinion, you can only be a superstar if you find your own voice. If you want to sound great and attract(吸引)people, just get comfortable with your own voice. Do you think Bob Dylan has a great voice? Of course not, but people love his voice and his songs. One of the main reasons is that he’s very comfortable with himself and his own voice. So remember this when you’re asking yourself how to sing like a superstar.
I hate hearing many singers trying to imitate others! But it still happens all the time and yes, some of them do become famous by trying to sound like others. I just don’t feel like I’m listening to real art when I hear these so-called stars trying to imitate someone else with their voice.
Now one thing I like to do is to sing other people’s songs in my own voice. Yes, you can practice a great song by an artist you love while you’re driving down the road, but practice it in your own voice not his or her voice. Turn down the volume a little and hear your own natural voice singing the song and giving it a new flavor(特色)!
That’s exciting and you’re being true to yourself. We’re supposed to be artists and that means expressing ourselves in a unique(独特的)way. So if you’re asking how to sing like a superstar, remember to just use your own voice.
43.What can we infer from the text?
A.The writer is a famous singer.
B.Young people are likely to imitate the stars they love.
C.People love songs sung in a unique way.
D.It’s not real art to sing other people’s songs.
44.The underlined word “imitate” in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to ________?
    A.invent B.copy C.help D.like
45.What is the author’s attitude (态度) towards singers’ imitating other singers?

(2022春·江苏无锡·八年级校联考期中)During all this time, I never stopped thinking about escape(逃跑). When I travelled across to the other side of the island, I could see the other islands, and I said to myself, “Perhaps I can get there with a boat. Perhaps I can get back to England one day.”
So I decided to make myself a boat. I cut down a big tree, and then began to make a long hole in it. It was hard work, but about six months later, I had a very fine canoe(独木舟). Next, I had to get it down to the sea. How silly I was! Why didn’t I think carefully before I began to work? Of course, the canoe was too heavy. I couldn’t move it! I pulled and pushed and tried everything, but it didn’t move. I was very unhappy for a long time after that.
In my sixth year on the island, I did make myself a smaller canoe, but I did not try to escape in it. The boat was too small for a long journey, and I did not want to die at sea. The island was my home now, and I was just happy to be alive. A year or two later, I made myself a second canoe on the other side of the island. I also built myself a second house there, and so I had two homes.
I kept food and tools at both of my houses, and also wild goats. There were many goats on the island, and I made fields with high fences to keep them in. They learnt to take food from me, and soon I had goats’ milk to drink every day. I also worked hard in my corn fields. And so, many years went by.

(2022春·江苏无锡·八年级校联考期中)It is believed in some ways that the daughter is father’s lover. But my experience has taught me in a different way. For a long time, my father has been a very vague (模糊的) figure to me. He was a man of few words, tall but slim and nothing else.
When I was in primary school, my father was never there to pick me up, and he never came to any of my parent-teacher meetings. He was always busy doing projects. I remember when I was in middle school and my head was badly hurt in a PE class. During my operation, my father was still busy with his work. This hurt me most. At that moment, I thought my father as a cold-blooded man who did not care about me at all.
But things seemed different. I would give a speech at my high school graduation ceremony (毕业典礼). My father, once again, couldn’t attend it because he had a business trip in a place outside the city. “Don’t come. I will be nervous if I see you.” I told him.
I remember my speech was successful. After the ceremony, I was about to leave. I suddenly noticed a man sitting in a corner of the hall. It was my father! I was so surprised that I rushed to him with tears running down my face. “Well done.” he said. His eyes were also filled with tears.
Later, I knew that my father had managed to finish his work by staying up late, and he drove for eight hours to get back. He sat in the corner because he didn’t want me to see him. My father remembered every word in my speech.
For much of my life, I described my father was a cold-blooded man who only cared about his work. But when I thought deeply about this, it was clearly not true. At my graduation ceremony I could feel my father’s deep love. The fact is that seeing is not believing, and seeing may not be the fact if we don’t perceive (感知) the world with our hearts and minds. Life is full of love, but sometimes our eyes have trouble seeing it.

D.The writer’s father went to parent-teacher meetings when she was in primary school.

A.she gave a speech successfully B.the graduation ceremony was over
C.she was so nervous that she couldn’t help crying D.she was touched to find her father cared about her

(2022春·江苏扬州·八年级校联考期中)In America, when people say “man’s best friend”, they don’t mean another person. Instead, they are talking about a lovely animal—a dog! These words show the friendship(友谊) between people and animals. Dogs and other pets can give joy to people’s lives. Some people think of their pets as their children. Some people even leave all their money to their pets when they die!
Animals can help people, too. Dogs can be taught to be the “eyes” for a blind person (盲人) or “ears” for a deaf(耳聋) person. Scientists have found that pets help people live longer! They make people happier, too. Because of that, they bring animals into hospitals for “visits”.
Americans hold “Be Kind to Animals Week” in the first week of May. Pet shows are held during the week. Even if you don’t live in America, you, too, can do this. How? First think about how animals make your life richer. If you have a pet, take more time this week to play with it. Remember to give it delicious food.
If you don’t have a pet, be kind to animals around you. For example, if you see a street dog, just leave it alone, or make friends with it. If others around you do bad things to animals, try to speak up. As people, we must protect(保护) animals who can’t speak for themselves.

In the US, you can really see these moving houses on the road. They are called recreational vehicles(RV). People call them houses on wheels. When it’s holiday time, the whole family often gets into this lovely house and hits the road for a trip across the country.
Compared to a real house, this home on the road is small for a family who has to spend every hour of every day together. But the best thing about it is that it changes your journey into a free exploration.
You can drive as long as you like without worrying about finding hotels. Or you can just stop somewhere nice and stay for a few weeks. You may also come across other families who are on road trips. Together, you take out your tents and snacks. It’s camping time with a lot of chat and laughter.
Of course, RVs are not always convenient. They can sometimes break down and you have to spend time mending them. But this type of road trip still wins people’s hearts because they can go whenever and wherever they want.

But after forty days without a fish, the boy’s parents had told him that the old man was now salao, which is the worst form of unlucky, and ordered the boy to join another boat, which caught three good fish the first week. It made the boy sad to see the old man come in each day with his boat empty. The sail looked like the flag of failure forever.

His face was terribly brown because of the strong sunlight on the sea every day and his hands had the deep scars from dealing with heavy fish on the lines. But none of these scars were fresh. Back at home, I’d soon give up and hand the phone over to him after five minutes of listening to this kind of moaning.
But not here, before we left, I had told my 10-year-old son the rule — no e-mails, no Facebook, no video games, and no iPhone. We came here to get away from them all. Here we were on our first day and already, he couldn’t stand it.
________ I walked down the grass road to the beach and looked out to the sea. My 6-year-old daughter and my husband were drawing on pieces of wood. They were doing just fine.

(2022春·江苏南通·八年级统考期中)I was careful to behave as well as possible, hoping the King would give me freedom early. Lilliputians soon began to lose their fear of me. They called me Man-Mountain. Sometimes I lay down and let them dance on my hand, and from time to time children came to play games in my hair. By now I was able to speak their language well.
One day the King invited me to watch their regular entertainments. I was most interested in the rope-dancing. A very thin rope was fixed (固定) about thirty centimetres above the ground. People who wanted to become the King’s officials jumped and danced on this rope, and who ever jumped highest without a miss got the best job. There was another interesting entertainment. The King held a stick in front of him, and moved it up and down from time to time. One by one, people came up to him and jumped over the stick or crawled (爬) under it. They went on jumping and crawling as the King moved the stick. The winner, who jumped and crawled for the longest time, received a blue ribbon (绶带) to wear round his waist. The second received a red ribbon, and the third got a green one. I had certainly never seen such entertainments in any of the countries I had visited before.
Some days later the King agreed that I didn’t need to be a prisoner any longer. However, I had to promise certain things before I was set free:
·to be careful not to step on any Lilliputians or their animals
·to help the Lilliputians in war till they win peace (和平)
·to stay in Lilliput until the King allowed me to leave
I agreed to everything at once. I was free at last!
Several weeks after my visit to the country, I was visited by one of the King’s most important officials. His name was Reldresal, and he had helped me many times since I had arrived in Lilliput.
“Well, my friend,” he said, “Lilliput has enemies (敌人) both at home and abroad. At home we have two political groups, the High-Heels and the Low-Heels. The two groups hate each other. As the present King and his officials are all Low-Heels, they refuse to speak to High-Heels. That’s the problem inside Lilliput. Besides, we’re getting information that the people of Blefusce are going to attack us. Have you heard of Blefusce? It’s an island very near us, almost as large and important as Lilliput. They’ve been at war with us for three years.”
    —Extracted from Gulliver’s Travels
110.Why did Gulliver try to behave as well as he could in Lilliput?

D.The official who got the most important job jumped highest on the rope without falling.

B.Gulliver would visit Blefusce with Reldresal.
C.Gulliver would turn to the Low-Heel group for help.
D.Gulliver would help the Lilliputians live a peaceful life.
