    1.(2022·山东菏泽·高三一模)阅读下面的材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One night, when I was in deep sleep, our neighbor from across the street fiercely knocked on our front door in a great hurry. She was screaming for us to open it. We ran to the door, and she said only one word as she took off running: “FIRE!”
Immediately we ran out just as the fire engines raced onto our street with their sirens(警报器) screaming. The fire was huge! Flames(火焰) were shooting wildly out of the windows and through the roof of the hundred-year-old, three-story house next door. The flames were so tall that they were visible a few miles away. Fire engines filled our entire street, from one end to the other, and even blocked the two cross streets.
My husband raced next door to be sure our neighbors had gotten out. All family members were outside and safe, including the dog. He ran to the houses on the other street that backed up to the house on fire and banged on those doors to be sure the neighbors were safe, too. They were. The air was thick with smoke, and it was hard to see and breathe as he came back down our street and arrived home.
We were almost grateful for COVID-19. Because of it, we were wearing our masks as we always did when we were outside. We sat outside watching the firefighters do the wonderful job that they did.
Our street was crowded with fire trucks, eleven in all. One engine had a monster light on it that made the street bright enough that it looked like it was high noon on a sunny day. The medical workers and ambulances also came in case they were needed. Thank goodness, they were not. Our house became kind of a “safe house” with our next-door neighbors coming and going, as needed. It was a safe place for their dog, too. We made sure she had plenty of water, and she stayed in the house with our dog.

On Friday the 13th of March, my six-year-old son Jack came home with a huge packet of worksheets in his schoolbag. Soon after, I received the email I had feared was coming-Jack’s school would be closed for at least the next two weeks. The COVID-19 quarantine (隔离期) had begun. At least now I would know he was safe at home. I spent the weekend gathering supplies such as pencils, crayons and paper and setting up a classroom on my dining room table.
On the first day of what was referred to as "distance learning", I realized I was being overly optimistic, and I only had one child to teach. He suffers from hearing loss and wears hearing aids. In school, he receives special services from a teacher of the deaf, a speech therapist (治疗专家),an occupational therapist, and a physical therapist. In addition to his major classes, there was also his music class, art class, computer education, the library, and physical education. I was suddenly ten teachers all at the same time, and the work began piling up!
Although my job as a freelance (自由职业的) writer allows me to work according to my own schedule, I would normally work when Jack was at school. Now that time was taken up with school days at home. This meant I was teaching for most of the day and then working as a writer all afternoon into the evening. Many days didn’t stop until bedtime, and then we were right back at it the next morning. This was the new normal and it was stressful. More than once, I found myself feeling angry for no particular reason. On one occasion. I shouted angrily at my printer simply because it wouldn’t work properly.
One day, I was helping Jack with a short journal. As part of his class worksheets, he was required to write and draw about the interesting things that happened at home. I secretly cheered at the opportunity to apply my professional skills to my son’s education.

Jose was a devoted teacher for a local high school in California. Unfortunately, with the money he earned, he couldn’t support his family and extended family in Mexico and rent an apartment in California at the same time. Therefore, having failed to afford the rental of even a shoebox apartment, he had no choice but to live in his old car occasionally to make ends meet until he could find another place to live.
To make matters worse, he found himself living this unfortunate lifestyle after Covid-19 swept the world when California schools closed their doors following the outbreak. This left Jose with little means for making money. So at age 77, Jose ended up living inside of his car. For about two years he was homeless. Home was his car, and his car sat in a grocery store parking lot. During daytime he drove to different locations, looking for job opportunities while he spent most of his nights at the same parking lot, which gave him a sense of belonging.
At day time, he would lean his seat all the way back, so no one would see him because he knew he wasn’t supposed to be there and worried the manager of the grocery store would drive him away. He was a man of self-respect and didn’t want to turn to charity.
When Maggie, the manager of the grocery store did see Jose, she felt he looked familiar because she used to be in his class many years ago. She could still remember how Jose encouraged her to finish her education when she was struggling with her learning. She noticed Jose spent a considerable amount of time in his car, she suspected her teacher had fallen on hard times. She became determined to help her former teacher in his time of need. So, the former student decided to repay the favor and help her homeless teacher.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Julia Koch began what was only her second year as a first grade teacher in a virtual classroom at Edgewood Elementary School in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. One September afternoon a few weeks into the school year, she received a call from Ann Phillips, who was having technical difficulties with her granddaughter's tools for online learning.
Julia immediately knew something was wrong with Ann. The two women had spoken numerous times before, but Julia had never heard the grandmother sound quite like this. Her words were so jumbled(混乱的)that Julia could barely understand her, though she was able to make out that Ann had fallen four times that day. Julia called her principal, Charlie Lovelady, who assured her that he would call and check on Ann himself.
Just like Julia, Charlie could barely understand Phillips. He suspected she might be having a stroke(中风)—he recognized the signs from when his own father had suffered one. Charlie was able to make out the word "kids" and immediately became concerned that Ann's two grand-children, aged six and eight, were probably home alone with her—she is their primary guardian—and scared. Charlie asked his office manager to send an ambulance to the grandmother's home. Then Charlie called Vandiebilt Mathews and Keytria But-Walker, two deans in the school district, to tell them what was going on. Both of them dropped everything and drove to the family's home.

Alvin Bamburg, 66, was deep in the woods in Grand Cane, Louisiana, last December when something caught his eye. Twisted in a fallen tree, it looked like litter. As Alvin approached, he saw that the object was a broken balloon. Attached was a piece of paper decorated with sparkly star stickers. It was a child’s Christmas wish list.
“Dear Santa,” the handwritten note read. “My name is Luna. I am four years old. I live in Liberal, Kansas. This year I have been nice. I would like candy, Spider-Man ball, Frozen doll, puppy. With love, Luna.”
Alvin’s heart hammered in his chest. Ever since he was a child, he had dreamed of this very scenario(场景).He believed this was his childhood wish coming true. And he decided to make Luna's wish come true too. Given the distance of more than 650 miles from Grand Cane to Liberal, Alvin followed the advice from his wife, Lee Ann Bamburg, and posted a photo of the balloon and the Christmas list on his Facebook page, asking for help locating the sender.
Meanwhile, Leticia Flores-Gonzalez, the mother of four-year-old Luna and her twin sister, Gianella, had no idea that such an effort was underway. It had been a hard year for Leticia and her girls. As COVID-19 spread, the family felt lonely, scared, and isolated, with no relatives living nearby.
On a particularly tough day last December, Leticia had come up with the idea of having the girls send letters to Santa by balloon. She told them that Santa would grab the balloons while he flew through the air on his sled. The twins were excited. Leticia helped them write down all the things that they dreamed Santa might bring them, and put the notes into Christmas red balloons. Then she took them outside to release their wishes to the universe on the chilly windy morning.

“I’ve taken up quilting,” my mother announced proudly over the phone one day.
    “That’s great, Mom,” I said.
My 70-year-old mother was undergoing chemotherapy for her cancer. It is a battle that I knew she would someday lose. Maybe soon. It broke my heart for more reasons than one.
“I’m working on a quilt for your sister now,” she said. “Once I’m done, I’ll make one for you.”
    “Thank you.”
She asked about the kids. We chatted about the weather. Then we said our goodbyes. The conversation was short, polite and surface level, as always.
Mom and I had never had what you would call a warm relationship. We never hugged. Never said “I love you”. I didn’t know why. Nothing bad had ever come between us. We just weren’t close the way I was with my kids. For years, I’d longed to break down that wall and to hear those three words. I just didn’t know how to start. We’d been this way for as long as I could remember. Finally, I came up with the idea to schedule regular lunch dates together. Maybe by sharing a meal we might share more of ourselves.
Then the pandemic hit. Suddenly I was on the front line of the COVID-19 battle. No way could I risk infecting Mom, especially with her weak immune system. I settled for daily phone calls instead. It wasn’t quite the bonding experience I’d hoped for. She promised she was working on that quilt for me, though.
My quilt was Mom’s last one.
On a Thursday in June, I got the call from my dad. He was so upset that all I could understand were the words “She’s gone”.
In the weeks that followed, I was torn between thankfulness that she was no longer suffering and an overwhelming desire to see her again, to connect, as if the pandemic had robbed me of that chance. If we’d only had more time. If she’d only said, “I love you.”
    1. 续写词数应为150左右;

Aaron Wylie, a bus driver, lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His mom, Sandra, who had liver disease, lived with his dad a four-hour drive away in Saint John, New Brunswick. He hadn't seen them for a long time because of coronavirus.
Extremely shocked when he learned Sandra's disease was terminal, all Wylie wanted to do was find a way to see her while there was still time. But with pandemic travel restrictions and budget limits , it looked as if the visit might be pretty much impossible.
    Then he got an idea.
Wylie had a Class-1 license, which allowed him to drive a truck. Since truck drivers are classed as necessary workers, he thought if he could get a chance to deliver necessary medicines to New Brunswick, he might just be able to make the trip happen after all.
Hoping for a miracle, he placed an ad on the popular network Facebook.
“I know this is a bit of an odd request but I'm looking for a class-1 position, he wrote. "I am looking for a route that will run Halifax to Saint John... I am willing to drive for free!”
He went on to explain the details of his mom's disease and said he needed to find a way to Saint John, both legally and as soon as possible.
Wylie admitted he wasn't expecting a lot of feedback on his post, but almost at once, offers of trucking jobs, financial help — and even someone willing to test as a live liver donor for his mom-began streaming in.
The request got more than 5,000 shares on Facebook. A medicine company offered him a chance to drive trucks from Halifax to Saint John, delivering necessary medicines regularly. They said they would provide him with a pass but he was to get vaccinated and tested for COVID-19 before and after making the trip. He was more than happy to accept it.

I am Russian, but for the last five years, I’ve lived in Kansas. What brought me to this country was my American husband, John. I work in a department store, where my coworkers pronounce my Russian name so sweetly. Every time I hear it, I feel as though my mom is embracing me.
In my native country, people believe that Americans always keep big smiles on their faces even if they don’t have a real reason to do so. The American smile, the Russians have decided, is not genuine.
Last year, John encouraged me to go see my mom back in Russia. My manager even gave me a month off for the trip. (When you live an ocean apart from your family, you need at least a month to visit them.) I bought a plane ticket and packed my suitcase. Then came COVID-19. My mood became gray as I realized I couldn’t go see my mom.
A couple of weeks later, my sweet coworker Miss Donna, asked me.“So what’s happening with your trip to Russia?”I told her that I had to cancel it and that I wouldn’t be able to see my mom this year.
Miss Donna didn’t say anything at first. Then she put on a big American smile and said, “Well, you can come over and see my mom!”
Oh, my Lord! (That’s what my husband always says when he’s at a loss for words.) Imagine, a mom for loan! I honestly don’t know whether I would offer the same to someone in need of a mother’s warmth, but my new people sure would do it for me. I know that because of the virus you shouldn’t hug friends, but you can still embrace someone’s heart. That’s how my heart felt at that moment: hugged. So, yes, believe me, the American smile is genuine.
    注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

It didn’t take long before Miss Donna invited me to call on her mom.

    参考答案
    1.One possible version
After around two hours, the fire was completely controlled. Luckily, all family members were outside and safe including the dog. The house was not completely destroyed. Only several rooms would need to be reconstructed, while the rest of the house could be cleaned. Most of it, while smoky and damp, was repairable. Some neighbors came here to help them clean the house. The neighbor’s gratitude for the firefighters and other neighbors is overwhelming. They couldn’t stop saying “Thank you.”
Things have settled down now. Many neighbors nearby sent lots of things, such as fruits, cloches, quilts, beds and so on. This neighbor didn’t know the homeowners, even their names. She was deeply moved. After the fire, the relationships among the neighbourhood were more harmonious, and neighbors were more friendly. They are not sorrow about the fire. Instead, they know love and care make a difference. In fact, no matter what difficult things happen, only if we help each other and work hard, can we overcome them. Be together for a shared future.

I told him all the things I knew about story writing. I sorted out a few magazines with my articles and read to him in a loud and clear voice. I even acted out some of the stories. However, Jack didn’t seem to pay much attention. Turning the crayon over in his hand, he looked at me, then at the blank piece of paper. I remembered how I enjoyed the quiet afternoons typing away on my laptop and thought he might need space to build up his story. I told Jack he could start writing and left him to get on with it.
After half an hour, I found that Jack’s paper was still blank. Stress and impatience burned in my stomach, I knocked heavily on the dining room table and was ready to lecture him on how to be a good student. Instead, Jack raised his head, tears welling up in his eyes. “I’m scared, Mom,” he sobbed. “You are always angry.” I was speechless. Thinking about the past two weeks, I realized what a horrible teacher I had been I told Jack we could take an afternoon off. The journal could wait until we filled the day with some happy memories.

    4.Paragraph 1:
When they pulled up less than ten minutes later, the emergency workers were treating Phillips. The quick response from Julia and Charlie saved Ann’s life. She arrived at the hospital in time to get treatment and before chronic damage occurred. “If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t be here,” said Ann from her hospital bed about a month after her stroke. Thanks to an extended stay in the hospital, she has regained most of the movement throughout her body except for one hand and a portion of her mouth, which affects her speech. “I’m proud that people responded so quickly that it did make a difference for Mrs. Phillips,” says Julia. “I am so pleased to be part of such a caring community.”
    Paragraph 2:
But the school’s crisis response is only one piece of the community’s extraordinary efforts. Another family with young children took in the two girls. When that became too much to handle during the day with at-home learning, school contacted the local Boys and Girls Club, where the girls now spend their days as part of a program to help working parents. They return to the host family at night. Virtual learning has been a challenge across the country, but in Muskegon Heights it has helped the community grow closer. Many teachers there gave their personal phone numbers to students and families in case they needed extra help. In this case, the exchange is literally life-altering, for people care about each other, and they don’t just say the words. They just follow through.

    5.参考范文
One day in January, a friend called Leticia and said, “Someone found Luna’s balloon.” Her jaw dropped. At her friends urging, Leticia logged on to Facebook and saw Alvin’s post. Then she saw that people from all over were asking if they, too, could be part of fulfilling the wish list. Leticia was deeply touched and gave Alvin a call. When Alvin told her how much it would mean to him to grant the girls’ wishes, she agreed to let him bring them some gifts. Back in Louisiana, Alvin got busy collecting toys from his newfound Facebook community.
In April, Alvin and his wife made a trip to meet the girls. That morning, just as chilly and windy as the day Luna and Gianella waved goodbye to their balloons, Alvin got out of the car in front of their house. He presented all the gifts to the twins, including a puppy. The girls cried with delight. Later, both families sat down together to share homemade breakfast. They all felt as if they had known each other forever. Having received so much generosity, Leticia and her girls expressed their gratitude and intended to pay it forward.

    6.Para 1:
A few months later, I thought of the quilt Mom made for me, and decided to give quilting a try myself. Who knows? Maybe I was still trying to connect with Mom. I drove to the store to pick out all the things I needed to make a quilt. I quickly learned that quilting was harder than it looked. I hurt my fingers more than once. Slowly, I got the hang of it, and eventually I completed several squares. I thought about Mom a lot while I worked. How I wish I could ask her some tips!
    Para 2:
But Mom’s help could never come, and then Dad offered me Mom’s quilting bag, filled with the spare fabric. One night, I noticed I was running low on fabric. I hadn’t had a chance to go through Mom’s quilting bag yet, but maybe there was something that I could use. I reached in and pulled out six perfectly sewn blocks. It was the exact same fabric I had chosen. It seemed that Mom had known long ago that I would need these fabric. Mom, in her own way, had finally said those three beautiful words I’d longed to hear.

With all the necessary preparations made, Wylie set off. On his truck, there were oxygen tanks and boxes of medicines. There were much fewer vehicles on the road due to the pandemic. He had to show his pass and have his temperature checked every time he went to the highway service area for a rest. But Wylie was glad that he could help transfer the medical supplies. What’s more, he was coming nearer and nearer to his hometown, and his mom.
About four hours later, Wylie arrived at the hospital in Saint John. With the truck unloaded and paperwork done, Wylie applied to visit his mom. Of course, there were a lot of checks before he was admitted in. But it was worth all the trouble. Eventually he could hug his mom, before it was too late. Tears rolled down his cheeks. He could not save his mom from her disease, but he felt lucky for being able to manage this trip and accompany her during her last days.

    8.Para 1:
It didn’t take long before Miss Donna invited me to call on her mom. I could still remember it was a Saturday afternoon. The sun was sinking in the west when I knocked on the door. An aged woman answered it. The moment she saw me, a typical American smile lit up her face, which also drove my nervousness away. After my introduction, she warmly led me in, seated me on the sofa and called Miss Donna to chat with me, while she herself walked into the kitchen to prepare dinner for us.
    Para 2:
When the dinner was ready, I was surprised to find there were several Russian dishes. Miss Donna’s mom smiled gently to me, “Make yourself at home.” Definitely she struck me as a lovely and caring mom, just like my mom. Over the dinner I told her about my hometown and she listened carefully with an understanding expression. The cuisine she made left a deep impression on me, but what struck me most was her warm smile, which was full of encouragement and love. Never before had I believed so firmly that a genuine smile was a ray of light, brightening up the day in the darkest time.
