1. M: How was your father?

  W: He has been ill for three years. Now he is still in hospital.

2. M: Hello, Mary. Haven’t seen you for a long time. Where have you been?

  W: I’m just back from Australia.

3. M: What do you think of yesterday's football game?

  W: It's wonderful.

4. M: I have to go and meet my mother at the station right now.

W: But it's raining outside, Daniel.

M: Can I use your umbrella?

W: Certainly. Here you are.

5. M: You speak good English. Are you from America?

  W: No, I’m from Germany. But I studied in Canada for five years.

6. M: Do you like monkeys, Lisa?

  W: Yes, of course. They are so clever. In fact, I like many kinds of animals, such as pandas,  

  elephants and cats. But my favourite is dogs.

7. W: What were you doing while I was away?

  M: Look at the room. It is clean.

8. M: I was not here yesterday because my mother was ill. I had to look after her.

  W: Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. You’re a good boy. Go back to your seat and join us. Please turn

9. W: Have David and Tina left?

  M: Not yet. David says he’d like to leave next Monday. But Tina wants to leave next

  Wednesday.

10. M: Oh, no! It’s eight o’clock, but I haven’t finished my task.

  W: Last Sunday I got up very early.

  M: When did you have breakfast?

  W: I had breakfast at 6:45.

  M: What did you do next?

  W: Then I hurried to school to learn how to use the computer. My teacher helped me. At noon I 

  had lunch with Jane in a restaurant near my school.

  M: Where did you go after lunch?

  W: I went to a bookshop to buy some books with Jane. Then we said goodbye to each other. As 

  soon as I came home, I helped my mother to do some housework.

 My friends and I spent a few weeks in London last year. We went in autumn. We think it’s the best season to visit England. The weather is usually quite good and there aren’t too many visitors in October. We did most of our sightseeing on foot. We went to look at the places that all visitors see. What we liked most was going to the theatre. We don’t have the chance to see such wonderful plays at home. A lot of people say English food is very bad. We didn’t think so. It’s true that most of the restaurants are French, Italian or Chinese, but we had some very good meals.

    May I have your attention, please? Mr Chaplin can't be here because he has gone to America for a teachers’ training course. He asked me to tell you something about today’s English exam. The exam starts at 9 o’clock this morning. It lasts for 2 hours. It’s an important exam. Before you answer the questions, relax yourselves. You have to read the questions carefully before answering them. Don’t forget to write the answers clearly. If there is a difficult question, don’t worry. Go on to the next one and come back to it if you have time. Try not to leave questions unanswered when you finish the test. Sometimes a guess may be helpful. Mr. Chaplin and I wish you good results.
