Level: High School (Grade 10)
Objectives:
To develop reading comprehension skills through reading an article about different types of travel
To encourage critical thinking and reflection on the benefits and drawbacks of different types of travel
To improve vocabulary acquisition through using context clues to infer the meanings of unfamiliar words
To practice speaking and listening skills through discussion and sharing of opinions
Materials:
Textbook:《人教版(2019)高中英语必修第一册》 Unit 2
Whiteboard or blackboard
Markers or chalk
Handout of vocabulary words
Discussion questions handout
Procedures:
Warm-up
Ask students if they enjoy travelling and what types of travel they have experienced.
Ask students to discuss with a partner the benefits and drawbacks of travelling.
Vocabulary building
Hand out the vocabulary words handout and ask students to work in pairs or small groups to match the words to their definitions.
Go over the answers as a class and provide additional examples of how to use the words in context.
Reading and comprehension
Have students read the article in their textbooks and answer the comprehension questions provided.
Allow time for students to compare their answers with a partner before going over the answers as a class.
Critical thinking and reflection
Divide the class into small groups and provide each group with a set of discussion questions.
Allow time for each group to discuss their answers and opinions before sharing with the class.
Wrap-up
Ask students to reflect on what they have learned today and how it might influence their future travel plans.
Encourage students to share any interesting or new ideas they have gained through today's lesson.
Assessment:
Observe students' participation in group discussions and their ability to share and explain their opinions clearly.
Evaluate students' understanding of the vocabulary words through their ability to correctly match them with their definitions.
Assess students' comprehension of the article through their accuracy in answering the comprehension questions.
