In 2018, China became the largest producer and consumer of the fruit in the world. Ninety-two-year-old Wu Mingzhu, a native of Wuhan, is the unknown hero who has helped make this possible.
“About 80 percent of the watermelons and sweet-melons served at people’s dining tables every day are
the result of painful efforts made by Wu and her team over more than 60 years,” said Zhang Wenjun, a colleague of Wu’s.
Helping others had long been a dream of hers. And she thought the most beautiful thing in life is that
everything you create can serve the people, so she made efforts to grow quality melons , which began paying off in 1973. She is one of the 8,000 agricultural scientists who have come to Hainan annually from across the country over the past 60 years and have cultivated(培育)more than 20,000 of China’s new seed varieties through offseason breeding.
Using innovative measures such as radiation mutation breeding, double haploid breeding and distant hybridization breeding, Wu and her team developed new germ-plasm(种质)resources, from which they cultivated more than 30 watermelon and muskmelon (香瓜)varieties with better adaptability and stronger disease resistance, said Yi Hongping, former director of the Xinjiang Muskmelon Research Center.
The new melon varieties have been promoted to more than 1.86 million hectares of fields from north to south. Some of these varieties have been promoted overseas, as far as California. Wu’s work has left her a number of honors. The “queen of melons” became an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1999 and an honorary citizen of Sanya in 2004.

Who is smarter? A human being or artificial intelligence?
The question swept the world when a Google-developed program called AlphaGo defeated the world top player,South Korean Lee Se-del,4-1.
    So,what comes next?
Some people have been arguing that artificial intelligence,or AI in short, will be a bad thing for humans.
In an interview with the BBC in 2014,UK scientist Stephen Hawking warned that “the development of full artificial intelligence could mean the end of the human race.”
So are we really about to live in the world shown in the Terminator movies?
“Not quite,” answered The Economist. After all,it's not hard to get a computer program to remember and produce facts. What is hard is getting computers to use their knowledge in everyday situations.
“We think that, for the human being, things like sight and balance(视觉平衡),are natural and ordinary
in our life.” Thomas Edison, founder of Motion Figures,a company that is bringing AI to boys, told the newspaper. “But for a robot,to walk up and down just like human beings requires various decisions to be made every second, and it's really difficult to do.”
As The Economist put it,“We have a long way to go before AI can truly begin to be similar to the human
brain, even though the technology can be great.”
Meanwhile,John Markoff of The New York Times said that researchers should build artificial intelligence to make people more effective.
“Our_fate_is_in_our_own_hands,” he wrote.“Since technology depends on the values of its creators,
we can make human choices that use technology to improve the world.”
    28. What can we know about the result of the match?
    A. Lee Se-del was defeated by AlphaGo. B. AlphaGo lost the match.
    C. Google program beat AlphaGo. D. Neither side won the match.
    29. What can we infer about Thomas Edison’s idea in his remarks?
    A. It's very easy for AI to beat the human brain.
    B. AI does better than humans in sight and balance.
    C. AI would take the place of human beings.
    D. AI fails to make various decisions quickly.
    30. Who believes much has to be done to improve AI?
    A. John Markoff. B. Stephen Hawking.
    C. The Economist. D. The New York Times.
    31. What does the underlined part in the last paragraph imply?
    A. AI will make our future out of control.
    B. AI will improve the world completely.
    C. AI may bring disasters to human beings.
    D. AI is in the control of human beings.
    D
Many years ago, people relied on the sun, the moon and stars to find their way around. Later, the compass was introduced. And now, we have satnav (卫星导航) systems to guide us. A satnav system uses groups of satellites to show the user’s location. They send information to a receiver, such as a smartphone, to show us where we are.
The earliest built satnav system is the Global Positioning Satellite System, which belongs to the US.
Then there is Russia’s Global Navigation Satellite system, the European Union’s Galileo and China’s own satellite navigation system, Beidou.
On October 18, 2017, an ARJ21-700 plane, which was the first domestically (国内地) produced jet
equipped with the Beidou navigation system, successfully completed a test flight. The results showed the performance of the system developed by China matches that of similar systems produced abroad, according to the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China.
Since its introduction in 2000, the Beidou navigation system has been increasing numbers of
applications linked to everyday life, from shared bikes to farming.
When it comes to shared bikes, smart locks that support Beidou chips offer more accurate positioning than others, making it easier to find a bike.
Farmers can use Beidou—enabled tractors to plow (犁) the soil and use unmanned aircraft with Beidou
to sow seeds, which can improve efficiency and make better use of resources. Beidou’s farming applications have spread from Heilongjiang Province to Beijing, Liaoning, Shanxi, Hubei and other regions across China.
With its many uses, the Beidou navigation system is even playing a big role in the Belt and Road
“To date, the Beidou system has covered most parts of the Asia-Pacific region, as well as countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road,” said Yang Changfeng, chief designer of the Beidou system.
Today, there are more than 20 Beidou satellites above our heads, and China plans to launch even more this year to expand the Beidou network to better serve the Belt and Road Initiative.
“As Beidou expands its overseas reach, it will be increasingly popular in the logistics (物流) industry,”
said Miao Qianjun, Secretary General of the navigation services association. “Ships, for example, can use it to position themselves while sailing across oceans to European countries, no longer limited to Southeast Asian regions in the near future.”
    32. What does the author try to tell us in the first two paragraphs?
    A. the benefits of satnav systems.
    B. some modern satnav systems.
    C. some satnav systems and their functions.
    D. how satnav systems were created.
33.What can you know about the Beidou navigation system from the passage?
    A. It wasn’t used in our everyday life until recently.
    B. It was introduced to China on October, 2017.
    C. It is more powerful than other satnav systems.
    D. It was used successfully in a new jet plane.
    34. What is the Beidou navigation system already widely used for according to the passage?
    A. producing more smart locks for shared bikes
    B. navigating ships across oceans to European countries
    C. plowing the soil and sowing seeds
    D. improving the efficiency of network
    35. What could be the best title for the text?
    A. The advantages of satnav systems for human beings.
    B. The important role of the Beidou navigation system in daily life.
    C. The rapid development of science and technology
    D. The application of the Beidou navigation system in agriculture.

Although I am a girl, I can say I am a true fan of soccer games, for it is definitely one of the best ways
to get away from my tiring work temporarily and have fun. Therefore, the moment I got the news that there would be a game between our home team against the Team from London City, immediately I booked a seat at the front row, wishing to have a fantastic weekend.
I had a great mood when I got seated in the stadium. However,as the game began, I spotted that in
front of me sat a guy, who looked quite nice. But maybe his idea of having fun was nothing like mine, or most normal well-behaved fans, such as standing and yelling, non-stop, as loud as he could. He yelled at the coaches, at the players, at the London City’s fans ,and even at the officials present, always at the top of his lungs.
He kept his action for the entire 45 minutes and never showed any sign of tiredness.Obviously he was
so absorbed in the game that he failed to notice he was ruining the experience of hundreds of others.
With him yelling by me, my ear drums almost got broken, for his mouth was so close to my ears. For a while, I even thought of shouting back at him and stopping his yelling. People around were turning to look at him, and I could read their thoughts,“Is he never going to stop?” But He seemed blind to those looks.
At half-time, I escaped by walking for a few minutes outside the stadium. I was thinking of seeking an
empty seat in the student section across the stadium, but to my disappointment, the seats were all taken. I had no choice but to go back to the guy.
To make matters worse, when returning to my seat, I missed my steps and fell heavily on the stairs. As I
was struggling to stand up, a pair of huge hands helped me from behind.
I looked back and saw the guy’s smiling face and concerned eyes.
The guy kept his shouting for another 45 minutes.

选项中Getting these done中代词these与three major things相对应。
上一句中提到社交媒体浪费时间,并且下一句提到“Then do the things you always say you’re too busy to do”可知B选项中So set an alarm to signal...刚好从结构和逻辑上对应了下一句的Then do the things..., 并且“Facebook, Instagram and other sites and apps”刚好对应了上文的social media.
其中下一句中的similarly告诉我们“build in an extra ten minutes to your outward and return journeys”此句就是在解释或者复述主题句的内容,因此选择D答案。
A 句中“We’ve all experienced that annoying morning rush.”

How To Improve Your Studying Efficiency In Class
Hello, guys. Good morning. I’m so honored to obtain a chance to deliver a speech here. As is well-known,
studying efficiency in class is crucial to us students, which can decide whether we can achieve our learning
goal or not. Therefore, it’s vital for us to improve it as much as we can. Here, I’d like to share my views on it. Making good preparations for each class is necessary, allowing us to further understand what teachers may teach. Besides, concentration in class is also required. Only if we focus on the contents in class can we get out of the trouble in learning and achieve our learning goal. Eventually,A good review can help us effectively deal with the assignments given by teachers as well. These are the measures I take regularly. Wish you all could
accept my idea . Great thanks for your listening.
I looked back and saw the guy’s smiling face and concerned eyes. I expressed my thanks to him genuinely for
his kind and timely help , after which we started our chatting . We introduced each other and talked of our hobbies, including our great interest in soccer. He told me his work was also quite tiring and that he needed to release the stress by yelling it out, adding that he wished we wouldn’t care about his rudeness in doing so. Feeling quite uneasy for what I had done ,I realized that everybody has his own way of living and that we should be more considerate and understanding. Therefore, I gave him a certain answer,“No,I should learn from you.”
The guy kept his shouting for another 45 minutes, completely involved in the game again. Seeing his great passion,I couldn’t help yelling along with him, enjoying the game and releasing my pressure as well. What we did inspired the fans around us , causing their shouting too, at the top of their voice. It seemed that all the players had heard our shouting too and they played even harder than before. What a close and exciting game! All the people cheered up and behaved so perfectly. It was an unforgettable experience and I made up mind to watch a new game the next weekend.

    Text 10(203
M: Dear listeners, thanks for tuning in. I’m Pat Woods. To make sure you study effectively, you need to understand how you learn. Today I’m going to introduce to you the VARK model, which was developed by Neil Fleming, a teacher from New Zealand. Let’s take a look at them.
Both visual (V) and reading & writing (R) learners learn by seeing things. But some visual learners prefer reading and writing, while others are good at understanding charts and diagrams. Both like to see lesson plans, so request these from your teachers. It’s also suggested to sit near the front of the class. There, you can either write down key words or create mind maps. Adding colors to your notes will benefit you, too.
Auditory (A) learners learn by hearing things. Try reading your textbooks and class notes out loud to help you remember them. Study somewhere loud noises won’t interrupt you.
Kinesthetic (K) learners learn by doing. Try creating cards full of facts and pictures and moving them around. This helps you remember the relationships between them. Also, take frequent short breaks when you study. This stops you from getting bored.
Experiment with different activities and find the ones that work for you. Good luck studying!
