根据第一段中的ranging from 13thcentury religious paintings to... 故选A。
The main West Wing houses 16thcentury paintings, and artists include Leonardo da Vinci...
    B
In 1945, 23-year-old Joan Hinton was one of the few female nuclear physicists joining in the Manhattan Project, an American project set up in 1942 to develop an atom bomb. Even as she rejoiced in the project’s success, she was deeply shocked when the U.S. dropped two bombs in Japan in 1945 during World War II. She then quit the project and left the U.S..
In 1948, she managed to travel to Yan’an, where she married her boyfriend Erwin Engst. Her husband got his first impressions of China from the book Red Star Over China by Edgar Snow. He came to China as a member of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in 1946 and went on to serve as an expert on farm equipment in Yan’an. “My father kept on writing letters to my mom, telling her to come to China and that ‘China was about to climb a hill. If you arrive late, you’ll miss the bus’,” Fred Engst, son of Hinton, said.
Hinton and her husband lived a simple life in China. During her time in Yan’an, she only stood out as a foreigner, dressed in ordinary clothes. The villagers treated the U.S. scientist like they would be a family member. During one Chinese New Year’s party in the village she lived in, Hinton shared her sense of humor by amusing the locals with her performances using a northern Shaanxi dialect (方言).
The couple witnessed the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Hinton, who held high hopes of making milk available to the Chinese population, devoted herself to the improvement of agricultural machinery and the milk industry at large. She applied her scientific skills to developing a continuous-flow automatic milk pasteurizer (巴氏杀菌机) and tending to about 200 cows in the following years.
Hinton was truly devoted to everything she did, whether in nuclear physics or the milk industry.
    4. What does the underlined part “rejoiced in” in paragraph 1 mean?
    A. Showed surprise about. B. Felt joy at.
    C. Expressed anger over. D. Showed disappointment with.
    5. What is the villagers’ attitude to the U.S. scientists in China?
    A. Friendly. B. Rude. C. Concerned. D. Uncaring.
    6. What contribution did Hinton make to China?
    A. She contributed the development of nuclear physics.
    B. She pushed forward the development of cattle farming.
    C. She helped cows give birth to more healthy babies.
    D. She made all Chinese people enjoy the benefits of drinking milk.
    7. What can be the best title for the text?
    A. Joan Hinton set up a project in China.
    B. Joan Hinton improved Shaanxi dialect.
    C. The introduction to Joan Hinton.
    D. Joan Hinton persuaded Chinese people to drink milk.
B 5. A 6. B 7. C
根据第一段划线单词后的主句“she was deeply shocked when the U.S. dropped two bombs in Japan in 1945 during World War II.(但当1945年第二次世界大战期间,美国向日本投下两颗炸弹时,她感到深深的震惊。)”以及下一句“She then quit the project and left the U.S..(然后她退出了这个项目,离开了美国。)” 选项A“Showed surprise about. (对……感到惊讶)”;选项B“Felt joy at. (对……感到高兴)”;选项C“Expressed anger over. (对……愤怒)”;选项D“Showed disappointment with (对……
根据第三段“The villagers treated the U.S. scientist like they would be a family member.(村民们对待这位美国科学家就像对待自己的家人一样。)” 故选A。
根据第四段“Hinton, who held high hopes of making milk available to the Chinese population, devoted herself to the improvement of agricultural machinery and the milk industry at large. She applied her scientific skills to developing a continuous-flow automatic milk pasteurizer (巴氏杀菌机) and tending to about 200 cows in the following years.(Hinton对向中国人民提供牛奶寄予厚望,她致力于改进农业机械和整个牛奶工业。
    C
The COVID-19 has changed every aspect of our lives, including our eating habits. Comfort food was made for times like these, and it seems the healthy-food trend that took root in recent years is reversing (彻底转变), at least for the time being. Shopping habits have changed. To be in favor of old processed foods like frozen pizza, hot cakes and canned spaghetti, convenience foods with long shelf life are designed.
No judgment here. Money is tight in many families, and busy parents are putting breakfast, lunch and dinner on the table in between video conference meetings. Besides, convenience foods are engineered to taste good and make us feel good (at least in the short term).
But you might want to save room for something green on your plate, if you can find it at the store. That’s because a growing body of research is showing that our food choices don’t just affect our shapes. What we eat also may affect our mood and behavior—and not in the “I can’t believe I ate a dozen cookies in one sitting” sort of way. Indeed, there may be something in the food we’re eating (or not eating) that's influencing our state of mind.
The emerging(新兴的) field of nutritional psychology states that modern Western diets have contributed to increased rates of mental illness, particularly depression and anxiety. Diets that follow a Mediterranean pattern of eating—with a lot of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, beans, fish and olive oil—have been connected with lower rates of depression. A diet change of just a few weeks has been found to change moods.
As a third of all Americans are reporting that the coronavirus pandemic has done harm to their mental health, we might need nutritious food more than ever.
    8. Why are convenience foods with long shelf life designed?
    A. To change shopping habits.
    B. To change the taste of food.
    C. To show the healthy food.
    D. To meet customers’ shopping habits.
    9. What does the research mentioned in paragraph 3 tell us?
    A. Cookies is a kind of food you like while sitting.
    B. Food choices may influence our mood.
    C. A growing body needs proper sports.
    D. Busy work can make you feel depressed.
    10. How does the author like the Mediterranean eating diet?
    A. It’s beneficial to health.
    B. It includes too much fat.
    C. It may cause mental illness.
    D. It’s connected with higher rates of depression.
    11. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
    A. Can healthy food provide relief?
    B. Do food choices affect our shapes?
    C. What can contribute to mental illness?
    D. How can we beat the COVID-19?
D 9. B 10. A 11. A
根据第一段“Shopping habits have changed. To be in favor of old processed foods like frozen pizza, hot cakes and canned spaghetti, convenience foods with long shelf life are designed.”
根据第三段“That’s because a growing body of research is showing that our food choices don’t just affect our shapes. What we eat also may affect our mood and behavior”可知,那是因为越来越多的研究表明,我们的食物选择不仅影响我们的体型。
根据倒数第二段“Diets that follow a Mediterranean pattern of eating—with a lot of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, beans, fish and olive oil—have been connected with lower rates of depression. A diet change of just a few weeks has been found to change moods.” 故选A项。
根据第一段“The COVID-19 has changed every aspect of our lives, including our eating habits. Comfort food was made for times like these, and it seems the healthy-food trend that took root in recent years is reversing (彻底转变), at least for the time being.” 故选A项。
    D
For decades, climate scientists have named hurricanes and ranked them according to the damage. “Naming and categorizing (把……归类) heat waves is also a must,” states a newly formed international union, called the Extreme Heat Resilience Alliance. “Hurricanes get attention because they cause obvious physical damage,” says Jennifer Marlon, a climate scientist at Yale University. Heat waves, however, have less evident effects, since the primary damage is to human health.
Heat waves kill more people in the United States than any other weather-related disaster. Data from the National Weather Service show that from 1986 to 2019, there were 4,257 deaths as a result of heat. By comparison, there were fewer deaths by floods (2,907), tornadoes (2,203) or hurricanes (1,405) over the same period. What’s more, climate change is increasing the possibility of high temperature events worldwide, getting tens of thousands of people dying each year because of heat.
Some populations are particularly easily harmed by high heat, including people over 65 and those with potential medical conditions. Historical racial discrimination also puts minority communities at higher risk. Due to housing policies, they are more likely to live in urban areas, heat islands which lack green spaces that help cool down neighborhoods.
Part of the naming and ranking process will include defining exactly what a heat wave is. No single definition currently exists. Without a universally accepted definition of a heat wave, “We don’t have a common understanding of the danger we face,” says Aaron Bernstein, an expert of the new group. “Defined categories for heat waves could help local officials better prepare to deal with potential health problems in the face of rising temperatures. And naming and categorizing heat waves could increase public awareness of the health risks caused by these silent killers.”
The union is having conversations with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the World Meteorological Organization and other institutions to develop a standard naming and ranking practice.
    12. What do we know about the heat wave in America?
    A. It causes most serious physical damage.
    B. It has got more attention in recent years.
    C. It kills more people than other natural disasters.
    D. It is the biggest killer among weather-related disasters.
    13. Why are minority populations easily harmed by heat waves?
    A. They live in poorly-built houses. B. They lack good medical resources.
    C. They have less access to green spaces. D. They are limited in their movements.
    14. What is the author’s attitude towards the expert mentioned in Paragraph 4?
    A. Supportive. B. Negative.
    C. Conservative (保守的). D. Objective.
    15. What does the text intend to tell us about heat waves?
    A. They also kill lives like hurricanes. B. They should have names like hurricanes.
    C. Climate change is affecting them greatly. D. Measures should be taken to prevent them.
D 13. C 14. A 15. B
根据第二段中“Heat waves kill more people in the United States than any other weather-related disaster.(在美国,热浪造成的死亡人数比其他任何与天气有关的灾难都要多)”可知,在美国,热浪是与天气有关的灾害中最大的杀手。
根据第三段中“Historical racial discrimination also puts minority communities at higher risk. Due to housing policies, they are more likely to live in urban areas, heat islands which lack green spaces that help cool down neighborhoods.(历史上的种族歧视也使少数族裔社区面临更高的风险。
根据第四段“Part of the naming and ranking process will include defining exactly what a heat wave is. And naming and categorizing heat waves could increase public awareness of the health risks caused by these silent killers.””(命名和排名过程的一部分将包括准确定义什么是热浪。 故选A。
根据第一段“For decades, climate scientists have named hurricanes and ranked them according to the damage. “Naming and categorizing(把……归类)heat waves is also a must,” states a newly formed international union, called the Extreme Heat Resilience Alliance. “Hurricanes get attention because they cause obvious physical damage,” says Jennifer Marlon, a climate scientist at Yale University. Heat waves, however, have less evident effects, since the primary damage is to human health.(几十年来,气候科学家们一直根据破坏程度给飓风命名并排序。

    G. You can find partners online to help you learn English.
B 17. D 18. E 19. A 20. C
上文“Are you looking for a place to practice and improve your English skills?”询问你是否正在寻找练习和改善英语技巧的方法,从下文四段已给出的段首来看“Get prepared.”“Find ways to practice.”“Make evaluations.”都是具体的建议,可见此处选择 “The following steps are sure to help you.”(下面几个步骤肯定能帮助你)能起到承上启下的作用。故选B。
上文“There is no need to start from the beginning.”表示没有必要从头开始,而D选项表示只要从你薄弱的地方入手(“Just check up and find out where you are weak.”)进一步说明没必要从头开始,此处的薄弱环节与下文的“So, pick out something from your list of things that you need to learn.
下文的“These sites will provide you with tools and resources such as audio and video files to practice what you want to learn.” 可见前面一句必然提到一些网站,选项E的“From there”承接前面一句的“Google or Yahoo”,而“find some sites”和后面的“these sites”相呼应。
后文“You studied what you wanted to learn and now you need to use it in real-life situations.” 故选A。
前文“Once you finish a day's work, sit down for a few minutes and evaluate how you did.” 后文“Are you still weak in certain areas of this topic?” C“Did you learn everything that is required?”(你学了需要学的所有东西吗?)

My classmates made the plan to go to the seaside the other day. I felt very excited and ask for my parents’ permission. To my delighted, they agreed. We gathered at 7: 30 but set off immediately. It took us two hours or so to arrive there by bike. When we arrived, there had been plenty visitors. Some were playing volleyball on the beach; some were running happy along the seaside. In the distance, we saw a few visitors were lying on their chairs, enjoyed the beautiful sight. We collected a lot of seashells, what made us more than happy. We enjoyed themselves that day and returned home at about three o'clock.
1.the→a
    2.ask→asked
    3.delighted→delight
    4.but→and
    5.在plenty后加of
    6.happy→happily
    8.enjoyed→enjoying
    9.what→which
    10.themselves→ourselves
“gathered at 7: 30”和“set off immediately”是一前一后发生的两个动作,用and连接,故将but改为and。
see sb. doing是固定短语,意为“看见某人正在做某事”,were是多余,故去掉lying前的were。
