教材分析
该部分的活动主题是“分享你实施急救的故事”(Share your story about providing first aid)。阅读语篇讲述了一位名叫Chen Wei的高中生运用海姆立克式急救法救人的事迹,同时,还介绍了海姆立克式急救法的历史和操作方法。通过一个具体的故事展现急救的意义,彰显了掌握急救知识的重要性,弘扬见义勇为的行为,传递人道主义精神,呼应本单元的引言“It’s a great honour to save a life.”该板块要求学生模仿该故事写一篇文章,分享自己或他人运用急救知识救人的事迹,并抒发自己的感想。
教学目标
在本课学习结束时,学生能够:
1. 掌握海姆立克式急救法的操作步骤,并深入思考学习急救知识和技能的意义。
2. 总结记叙文的写作技巧,把握其文体特征、语言特点以及主题升华等内容。

教学过程
Step 1 Lead-in
Look at the pictures and answer the questions.
(1) What do you think the boy on the right is suffering from?
(2) What do you think the Heimlich manoeuvre is?
(3) What do you know about the Heimlich manoeuvre? How is it performed? Is it easy to learn?
设计意图:引出话题,激活学生的相关背景知识。
Step 2 Reading
- Read the article and then put A-E in the correct places in the text.
设计意图:要求学生通读原文,了解文章的基本内容,验证读前的预测是否正确,并通过句子还原练习培养学生分析句子间的逻辑关系的能力,理解上下文的逻辑意义。
- Summarize the main idea of the article and analyze the structure of it.
设计意图:要求学生把握文章的主要内容,关注篇章结构,并培养概括大意的能力。
- Read the article again and choose the correct words to complete the sentences.
设计意图:要求学生仔细阅读文章,关注文章细节。
- Discover the structure of a narrative essay.
设计意图:引导学生关注记叙文内容和结构方面的特点。
5. Work in pairs. Discuss the following questions with your partner.

6. Analyze the language features.
(1) What words are important when you tell a story about providing first aid?
(2) Do you think the writer describe actions accurately? What words did the writer use?

Step 3 Writing
1. Brainstorm and decide the content.
设计意图:通过让学生思考给出的问题,帮助学生明确写作内容和思路。
2. Use what you have learnt to write a narrative essay that shares a story about providing first aid.
设计意图:根据本课中所分析的记叙文的语篇结构、基本要素和写作特点,完成一篇记叙文讲述自己或他人的急救故事。
3. Exchange your first draft with a partner. Use the checklist to assess your partner’s draft.

Step 4 Assignment
Choose one medical emergency. Prepare a script for the first-aid instructor, explaining how the first aid is given for that medical emergency.
设计意图:让学生学会运用本单元掌握的急救用语的特点,并能使用祈使句和表示顺序的副词正确发出指令。
【范文】
For a drowning victim, firstly, you should lay the victim on his back. Next, you can turn his head to the side to drain out any water. Remove any grass or sand from his mouth. After that, check to see if he is breathing by putting your ear between his mouth and nose, and seeing if you can feel his breath, while looking to see if his chest is moving. If he is not breathing, check for a pulse. If no pulse or no breathing, call 120 or shout for help. If there is a pulse but no breathing, then move the victim’s head back and begin doing mouth-to-mouth rescue breathing: Tilt the person’s head back and blow air in until his chest rises. Do this every five seconds. Finally, if there is no pulse and no breathing, then push down on the chest at least 100 times per minute. Every thirty pushes, give him two deep breaths, and continue pushing on his chest and giving him mouth-to-mouth rescue breathing until help arrives.
