教材分析

开篇页主题图呈现了联合国大会的场景，旨在从全球事务协商、理解国与国之间离不开语言的角度，引入语言学习这一单元。Frank Smith的名言“One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open door along the way.”诠释了掌握多门语言的重要性。听说板块围绕“探索世界上的语言”（Explore language around the world），学生通过听一段介绍语言和语言学习的演讲，了解联合国的工作语言，并和同伴探讨自己希望学习的外语及学习的动机和理由。语音板块为了解区分英式英语和美式英语的发音。

7. 了解一些国家名称及其官方语言。

教学过程

Task 1

Step 1 Warming-up

1. Look at the opening page and discuss the following questions.

(1) Do you know how many working languages there are at an International conference?

(2) What are the official languages of the UN?

(3) What do you suppose the people are doing behind the glass on the upper levels?

设计意图：引导学生讨论开篇页所呈现的信息，引出本单元话题，并对本课将要学习的国家及官方语言做好铺垫。

Step 2 Pre-listening

1. Show a video to let students know how to say hi in different countries.

2. Work on Activity 1. Look at the photos and discuss which countries they are. Match each photo with the correct country name. Then discuss which languages are spoken in these countries.

3. Learn some other countries and their languages.

设计意图：通过观看视频让学生了解不同国家标志元素及打招呼的方式，帮助学生顺利完成活动1，并呈现更多的国家标志性建筑和官方语言，为后面的听力活动解决词汇和文化障碍。

Step 3 While-listening

1. Work on Activity 2. Listen to a speech and tick the two languages with the most native

speakers. Circle the official languages of the United Nations (UN).

2. Work on Activity 3. Read the following questions and predict the meaning of the bold words.

Then listen to the speech again and answer the questions.

(1)What is the main topic of this speech?

(2)How many languages are there in the world?

(3)How many billion people speak the UN’s official languages as their native or second language?

(4) What is the attitude of the speaker towards foreign language learning?

3. Work on Activity 4. Listen to the speech again and pay attention to the nouns before the pronouns in the following sentences. Then find out what do the pronouns refer to in the sentences.

(1)They think it means better job chances in the future.

(2)They are spoken by around 2.8 billion people...

Step 4 Post-listening

Work in pairs or groups. Discuss which other language(s) you want to learn and why.

Task 2(选做)

1. Work in pairs. Read the words to each other and see if you pronounce them differently.

2. Listen and pay attention to how the speakers pronounce them.

Step 5 Assignment

Do a survey in your class about which other language(s) you want to learn and why. Then write it down.
