Marcelo Toledo usually creates sculptures and jewelry out of metal. Now the Argentine artist is working with a new material: waste from the COVID-19 pandemic (传染病), such as masks, to create an exhibition exploring the painful impact of the virus.
Toledo, who has made jewelry for the musical “Evita” on Broadway and unique pieces for many famous people, was among the first in Argentina to be infected with COVID-19, which left him hospitalized for eight days. The experience had a great effect on his life and led to a series of artworks, including a 14-meter mask with the Argentine flag that he placed on the famous obelisk (方尖纪念碑) in Buenos Aires to raise awareness about organ donation during the pandemic.
For his new exhibition, the “Museum of the After”, Toledo is collecting recycled waste from the COVID-19 sent by hospitals, laboratories and strangers, including old medical parts and newspapers about the pandemic.
“I am excited to be able to turn pain into beauty and this exhibition is just recording everything that is happening to us as a society,” said Toledo. The artworks, which will go on show from September in a public space in downtown Buenos Aires, will all be made from waste materials or garbage that people send him. “It is the first time that I have done an exhibition in which I do not have to buy any of the elements,” he said.
In the exhibition there will be a real ship that will symbolically cross a “storm” and recycling islands to raise awareness about the importance of caring for the environment. “The exhibition will tell the story of this ship that went sailing and was stranded (搁浅) by a storm, which is a great metaphor (比喻) for what is happening to us. This pandemic is a great global storm,” said Toledo.
As with the huge mask, which was replicated (复制) in countries such as the United States and Japan, the artist dreams of replicating the new exhibition in other cities around the world.
24. What inspired Toledo to make the 14-meter mask?
A. His hospital stay. B. His Broadway experiences.
C. His fear of the pandemic. D. His research on organ donation.
25. What can we learn about the artworks in the “Museum of the After”?
A. They will be exhibited in hospitals.
B. They are greatly praised by the public.
C. They are created by people from all walks of life.
D. They are made out of rubbish about the pandemic.
26. What is Toledo trying to express with the story of the ship?
A. Our awareness of environmental protection is improving.
B. We suffer a lot from the COVID-19 pandemic.
C. We should spare no effort to defeat the pandemic
D. Our irresponsible behavior leads to natural disasters.
27. What does Toledo hope to do?
A. Make more huge masks to be on display.
B. Host exhibitions on different themes.
C. Reproduce his exhibition in other places.
D. Collect exhibition elements from around the world.

The Arctic, Atlantic, Indian and Pacific are the four oceans we learned about in the geography class. But now we have a new ocean. On World Oceans Day, which fell on June 8, 2021, the National Geographic Society, a non-profit scientific and educational organization, announced it would recognize the Southern Ocean in Antarctica, bringing the global total to five.
Unlike the Arctic, Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans which are defined (界定)by the continents that bound them, the Southern Ocean is instead characterised by the Antarctic ocean currents and temperatures. According to the National Geographic Society, the Southern Ocean includes most of the waters surrounding Antarctica, out to 60 degrees south latitude.
Those familiar with the Southern Ocean know it's unlike any other. "Anyone who has been there will struggle to explain what's so fascinating about it, but they'll all agree that the glaciers are bluer, the air colder, the mountains more mysterious and the landscapes more beautiful than anywhere else you can go," Seth Sykora-Bodie, a marine(海洋的)scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said.
Due to the ecologically distinct environment of the Southern Ocean, it's home to thousands of unique species. The ocean also has wider ecological effects. The National Geographic Society hopes their revised maps will bring public awareness to the region, thereby encouraging the Southern Ocean conservation but its significance is beyond that. "We think it's really important from an educational standpoint, as well as from a map-labelling standpoint, to bring attention to the Southern Ocean as a fifth ocean," Alex Tait, the National Geographic Society's geographer, said. "So when students learn about parts of the ocean world, they learn it's an interconnected ocean, and they learn there are these regions called oceans that are really important, and there's a distinct one in the icy waters around Antarctica."
28. What was special about World Oceans Day in 2021?
A. The National Geographic Society announced a study.
B. Another ocean besides the four oceans was recognized.
C. Students could know about the interconnected ocean.
D. It strengthened the marine environmental protection.
29. What does Seth Sykora-Bodie think of the Southern Ocean?
A. Unique. B. Rich. C. Crowded. D. Vast.
30. What is the significance of rewriting maps?
A. Making the world maps more believable.
B. Acquiring geographical knowledge correctly.
C. Knowing the Southern Ocean as a fifth ocean.
D. Having a better understanding of the five oceans.
31. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A. The Southern Ocean and Other Four Oceans
B. The Southern Ocean's Amazing Environment
C. The Southern Ocean: Well Worth Visiting Once More
D. The Southern Ocean: To Be the Fifth Ocean
D
What would happen today, if there was an accident at your workplace? Would employees know what to do? Would the injured person get the best possible care?
When an accident happens, a first-aid programme that meets the requirements of the law and is made to the type and size of the workplace can really make a difference between life and death, or between recovery and lasting disablement (伤残).
Employers should make sure that all employees know where emergency information is posted at the workplace. The emergency notice should show the phone numbers of the closest ambulance service, rescue unit, fire/ police station, and hospital. The amount of time it takes to look up one of these important numbers can make a big difference to a seriously injured person. The place of first-aid equipment and rescue equipment should also be posted.
All workplaces should have a person with first-aid or medical training in case of an emergency. First-aid equipment and supplies, including a variety of dressings and instruments, as well as an up-to-date first-aid book, should be stored where they can be reached quickly and easily in case of an accident. These supplies should be inspected frequently, making sure they are kept in sanitary (卫生的) and usable conditions and re-stored after use. Larger workplaces may need more than one fully-equipped first-aid bag.
In lonely workplaces, emergency supplies and an action plan are especially important. At least one person trained in first aid should always be on-site (在现场的). If first aid is not given properly, it can sometimes hurt rather than help an injured person, or even be harmful to the person giving first aid.
All workers should know who is trained to give first aid on-site, where first-aid equipment is put, and what medical professionals or medical instruments should be found if a medical emergency happens.
32. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The importance of a proper first-aid programme at the workplace.
B. The possibility to make a first-aid programme.
C. The requirements of the law about a first-aid programme.
D. Difference between the type and size of the workplace.
33. What should you do for a seriously injured person?
A. Report the present conditions to the employers.
B. Give first aid to him right away all by yourself.
C. Look up and call the emergency telephone numbers quickly.
D. Run to the rescue centre to get first-aid equipment.
34. Why are first-aid equipment and supplies stored in workplaces?
A. To be reached quickly and used to rescue in time.
B. To meet the requirements of the government.
C. To deal with the inspection of higher departments.
D. To make a medical training for the employees.
35. According to the text, what are all workers required to do?
A. Be responsible for the result of the injured person.
B. Know the exact place of first-aid equipment.
C. Be trained to give first aid to the injured in an accident.
D. Be far away from the accident place.

The Best Way To Lose Weight--Dieting Tips
How do you eat right to lose weight fast? You'll discover there are a great number of weight loss diets which promise to help you drop the pounds fast. 36
Many weight loss diets are aimed at losing weight fast, but aren't necessarily healthy and won't create a long-term change for the better. 37 That means you'll choose a diet which doesn't cut out any necessary nutrients (营养物). Most diets suggest that you stop eating fat or carbohydrates(含碳水化合物的食物). 38 You'll need to figure out your own body type before making a diet plan. You might also need to try different ways before finding the best way.
If you just need to shake a few pounds off, your plan won't be the same as one to lose weight in the long term. The best short-term weight loss plan will be stronger than the best long-term weight loss plan, but it shouldn't get rid of necessary nutritions. 39 Your body will go into " starvation mode" and your metabolism (新陈代谢) will slow down. As a result, your body will keep more weight.
40 Spread out your meals evenly throughout the day. Any larger meal should be eaten earlier in the day. That gives your body more time and opportunity to burn calories. If you eat a lot before bed, those calories won't burn but become fat.
A. But do they really work?
B. Once you start your plan, you shouldn't stop.
C. In fact many people feel it hard to lose weight.
D. The best way to lose weight should be useful in the long term.
E. While this may help some people, there is no plan that is perfect for all.
F. If you try to make yourself feel hungry, you won't achieve long-term results.
G. Besides improving your metabolism, you should also pay attention to when you eat.

My mother used to ask me what is the most important part of the body. Through the years I would take a guess at what I thought was the correct answer.
When I was younger, I thought sound was very important to us as humans, so I said, ''My ears, Mommy.'' She said, ''No. Many people are deaf. But you keep thinking about it and I will ask you again soon.''
Several years passed before she asked me again. Since making my first attempt, I had contemplated (考虑)the correct answer. So this time I told her, ''Mommy, sight is very important to everybody, so it must be our eyes.” She looked at me and told me, “You are learning fast, but the answer is not correct because there are many people who are blind.
Over the years my mother asked me a couple more times and always her answer was : ''No, but you are getting smarter every year, my child.''
Then last year, my grandpa died. Everybody was hurt. Everybody was crying. Mom looked at me when it was our turn to say our final goodbye to Grandpa. She asked me, ''Do you know the most important body part yet, my dear?'' I was shocked when she asked me this on this occasion. I always thought this was a game between her and me. She saw the confusion on my face and told, “This question is very important. How you answer it shows whether you have learned about life.”For every body part you gave me in the past, I have told you were wrong and I have given a reason why. But today is the day you will know the answer.
I looked puzzled. ''All your previous answers -- ears, eyes, hands, heart. They are all very important to yourself. But this time I need you think of something that is important to others.''
Paragraph 1:
''My dear, the most important body part,'' she said,

第一节 One possible version:
Dear Mike,
I’m Li Hua, a senior 2 student. I am writing to apply for the volunteer to receive the students from foreign countries. As a culture lover, I think it’s a duty for me to offer the best voluntary service to our foreign guests and meanwhile promote Chinese culture.
I do believe that I am qualified for the job. Firstly, I have extensive knowledge of our school’s history and culture. Besides, I have a good command of English, making it easy for me to communicate with foreign guests freely. More importantly, I have been involved in a good deal of reception work.
Thanks for your time and consideration. I would appreciate it if I could be chosen for this job.
Yours,
Li hua
第二节One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
“My dear, the most important body part,”she said, is your shoulder. " "Is it because it holds up your head? "I asked. "No, it is because it can hold the head of a friend or loved one when they cry, "she replied, "Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometime in life, my dear. I only hope that you have enough love and friends so that you will always have a shoulder to cry on when you need it. I saw her eyes well up with tears.
Paragraph 2:
"Mom, I understand. And you can cry on my shoulder too. "And silently, my mother put her head on my shoulder and started to cry. It was not heavy at all and the wetness didn't make me uncomfortable either. In fact when her warm tears damped my shoulder, I felt the pain in her heart, and I knew how hurt and lonely she was at that moment. I felt important. I felt like a man. I was there when someone I loved dearly needed me most.

So if people cannot communicate with each other, they cannot work together and help each other. That’s why we need to learn foreign languages. Of course,we don’t want to work together against God. But when we have the tool of foreign languages,we can learn about different cultures, get more information and trade internationally.
I know many people get good grades in written tests. But still many of them complain of the difficulty in learning a foreign language. That’s because they learn the language just as knowledge, not as a tool.
That is to say, they try to remember rules, but fail to improve their ability to use the language. In my course, you have to use your English in conversations. You will be given chances to use it properly in all kinds of real life situations. In this way, you’ll gradually improve your ability to use English. In short, you can communicate most effectively in the end. Thank you!
