But scientists are warning that the danger of space debris (碎片) is rapidly increasing. Space debris can include pieces of old rockets, non-operational satellites, lost tools and other items. They present a risk to spaceships, satellites and space stations. In an effort to reduce the amount of debris orbiting the Earth, a group of economists at the University of Colorado at Boulder proposed a yearly fee, or tax, on satellite operators for their use of an orbital path. The group’s study on the subject appeared recently in the publication Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.Matthew Burgess helped write the study. He said in a statement: “Space is a common resource, but companies aren’t accounting for the cost their satellites impose (迫使) on other operators when they decide whether or not to launch. So we need a policy that lets satellite operators directly factor in the costs their launches impose on other operators.Akhil Rao was the lead writer of the study. He said most of the proposed answers to the problem have been based on using technology to clear away the debris. But, Burgess said, removing debris only means that operators will launch more satellites, and an international treaty (条约) calling for a yearly fee or tax would push companies to be more mindful about launching further objects into space.Christopher Newman is a professor of space law at Northumbria University in Britain. He said that imposing a space tax could be tricky. Newman noted that such a cost could be seen as a restriction on the free use of space, and the effort to place a fee on the use of space could easily be slowed by the many details involved.24.What worries the scientists according to the passage?A.The high cost of cleaning up space. B.The increasing risk of space debris.C.The safety of communication systems. D.The practical effects of new technologies.25.What was the economists’ suggestion?A.Strengthening control over space stations. B.Allowing companies to use space for free.C.Charging satellite operators orbital-use fees. D.Using advanced devices to catch space debris.26.What is Burgess’s attitude towards clearing away the debris?A.Supportive. B.Neutral. C.Indifferent. D.Negative.27.What did Newman think of the economists’ idea? A.It would lead to an argument. B.It was well worth considering.C.It was hard to put into practice. D.It would eventually be rejected.C(2022春·浙江温州·高二期中联考)Tokyo University laboratory has developed a robot that never loses at the game of Rock Paper Scissors. That is because its visual processing abilities and fingers work together faster than any human brain. A video of the robot has been watched by more than 3 million viewers on YouTube since going online at the end of June. Tokyo University engineering professor Masatoshi Ishikawa has a good-natured response to frustrated human losers who accuse him of essentially creating a robot that cheats. “It is not cheating. Every one millisecond (千分之一秒) the image processor decides and recognizes the shape the human hand is going to make. And then the robot can make a winnable shape one millisecond later than a human being. Only one millisecond, but a human cannot see this difference because the human eye is very slow,” explained Ishikawa. At the Ishikawa Oku Laboratory there has been amazing progress which shows the near perfect accuracy of robotics, such as a robot that can catch a falling egg without breaking it, another one that can tie a knot, and a robot that may not be quite ready for the NBA, but is able to dribble (运球) a ball. In sports such as baseball and cricket, the misses outnumber (比......多) successes for even the most skilled athletes. That is not so in this award-winning school laboratory. For instance, an intelligent robot is the result of five years of research and a lot of trial and error. And the cost of just one finger on the robot is equal to that of a mini car. The technology obviously has uses beyond fun and games. Corporations are eager to take advantage of the lab’s technology for industrial and other practical uses. And there is talk of applying it to assisting disabled people and improving human capabilities.28.What brings the robot so much attention on the YouTube?A.It plays online games much better than any human.B.Its eyes and fingers can work at the same time.C.It can do whatever people tell it to do.D.It never loses in the game against humans.29.Ishikawa’s explanation suggests that the robot ________.A.proves to be dishonest B.responds faster than humansC.works slower sometimes D.is lucky to win the game30.The author proves that a robot is skillful and accurate through ________.A.performing an experiment B.telling an interesting storyC.offering some practical examples D.ordering it to do something hard31.Which section of a website is the text probably taken from?A.Science and technology. Extremely tired after football practice, I headed to the bus stop to wait for Bus 112 which would take me home. I was beginning to slowly and gently fall asleep when I saw the bus arriving. The sun was in my eyes and that was probably the reason why I got onto Bus 113.I was glad to get a seat. Within minutes, I was slumped against the window, fast asleep. When I opened my eyes, it was dark outside. I was the only passenger left on the bus. I could not recognize the part of town we were passing through. I pressed the bell and the bus stopped. I planned to jump across the road and catch a bus going in the opposite direction. However, I found myself on a quiet street with a row of shops that were all closed. I beat myself up for not asking the driver for directions. As I was wondering what to do, a motorcycle came down the road. The rider looked at me as he passed and then stopped a short distance away. I went to him and asked him how to get back to Taman Klang Utama. He smiled, tapping the back seat and said that he would send me home. Without a second thought, I climbed up behind the rider. He turned the motorcycle around and headed in the direction I wanted. We traveled for about 15 minutes and the surroundings still looked unfamiliar to me. The rider made a few turns and I knew I was hopelessly lost. I asked him where we were going. He did not answer but increased his speed. Alarm bells started to ring in my head.注意:1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;2.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;Paragraph1: I tapped the man on the shoulder and told him to stop._____________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________.Paragraph2: When my family learned what had happened, they were frightened._______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________.
