He saw the academy being built in the middle of nowhere in the 1950s. "Aerospace is a big project while everyone s work is ordinary. No matter whether it's designing or managing, it's detailed tasks that make up a great mission. I hope Guo will take details seriously and work hard at his position," his grandfather said.

(2021·吉林长春29中·高二期中)The big Town Hall clock was striking midnight when Frank began to cross the bridge. The dark night air was a little cold and wet.
Frank was strongly wishing to get home and his footsteps rang loudly on the pavement(人行道). When he reached the middle of the bridge, he thought he could hear someone coming near behind him. He looked back but could see no one. However, the sound went on and Frank began walking more quickly. Then he slowed down again. "There is nothing to be afraid of in a town as quiet as this," he thought to himself.
Just then, he heard short, quick steps closely behind him. By the time he got to the other side of the bridge, he could almost feel some one was behind him. He turned around and found there stood a man dressed in a large coat. A hat was quite down over his eyes and Frank could see very little of his face. Frank pointed to a big house far away and the stranger went on his way.
Frank asked himself why the stranger wanted to find Oakfield House at such an hour. He knew that the people who lived there were very rich. Almost without realizing what he was doing , he began to follow the stranger quietly. The man was up soon outside the house and Frank saw him look up at the windows. (2021·广东·金山中学高二期中)This month, Germany’s transport minister, Alexander Dobrindt, proposed the first set of rules for autonomous vehicles. They would define the driver’s role in such cars and govern how such cars perform in crashes where lives might be lost.
The proposal attempts to deal with what some call the “death valley” of autonomous vehicles: the grey area between semi-autonomous and fully driverless cars that could delay the driverless future.
Dobrindt wants three things: that a car always chooses property damage over personal injury; that it never distinguishes between humans based on age or race; and that if a human removes his or her hands from the driving wheel — to check email, say — the car’s maker is responsible if there is a crash.
“The change to the road traffic law will permit fully automatic driving,” says Dobrindt. It will put fully driverless cars on an equal legal footing to human drivers, he says.
Who is responsible for the operation of such vehicles is not clear among car makers, consumers and lawyers. “The liability issue is the biggest one of them all,” says Natasha Merat at the University of Leeds, UK.
An assumption behind UK insurance for driverless cars, introduced earlier this year, insists that a human “be watchful and monitoring the road” at every moment.
But that is not what many people have in mind when thinking of driverless cars. “When you say ‘driverless cars’, people expect driverless cars.” Merat says. “You know — no driver.”
Because of the confusion, Merat thinks some car makers will wait until vehicles can be fully automated without operation.
Driverless cars may end up being a form of public transport rather than vehicles you own, says Ryan Calo at Stanford University, California. That is happening in the UK and Singapore, where government-provided driverless vehicles are being launched.
That would go down poorly in the US, however. “The idea that the government would take over driverless cars and treat them as a public good would get absolutely nowhere here,” says Calo.
- What does the phrase “death valley” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.A place where cars often break down.
B.A case where passing a law is impossible.
C.An area where no driving is permitted.
D.A situation where drivers’ role is not clear.
- The proposal put forward by Dobrindt aims to _____ .
A.stop people from breaking traffic rules
B.help promote fully automatic driving
C.protect drivers of all ages and races
D.prevent serious property damage
- What do consumers think of the operation of driverless cars?
A.It should get the attention of insurance companies.
B.It should be the main concern of law makers.
C.It should not cause deadly traffic accidents.
D.It should involve no human responsibility.
- What could be the best title for the passage?
A.Autonomous Driving: Whose Liability?
B.Fully Automatic Cars: A New Breakthrough
C.Autonomous Vehicles: Driver Removed!
D.Driverless Cars: Root of Road Accidents

(2021·甘肃·金昌一种高二期中)As parents, we must teach our children the importance and value of honesty from an early age. However, teaching our children to be honest isn't the same as teaching them to tie their shoes.___11___ Otherwise, they'll prefer to lie in order to avoid being punished.
___12___ Lying in order to receive objects or attention are two main ones. Another one is to avoid punishment — parents should be careful with this one. Being too strict can result in children's lying more often.
When should we start teaching them the difference between lies and the truth? Children under the age of 3 don't have the ability to understand the importance of values. As soon as they turn 3, however, it's important for parents to watch carefully. It isn't enough for parents to teach. We must also observe our child's behavior. ___13___
Rewarding children can be a great motivation for their learning. ___14___ This will help create a trustful environment within the family. At the same time, we shouldn't let our children hear us lying. Parents are the models that their children follow, and therefore a lot will depend on a parent's behavior.
As our children grow up, it's important to teach them the value of honesty. ___15___ It's important for them to realize that telling lies prevents us from helping them in the most appropriate way.
A. Let them understand the value of telling the truth.
B. Even if we're honest, our children may not be honest.
C. This will allow us to find out what makes the child lie.
D. We can't correct children's behavior through punishment.
E. They will start to link honesty with something positive.
