    中考热点阅读理解—冬奥会

During the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, athletes (运动员) from all over the world broke both personal and Olympic records. High-tech elements have been giving “wings” to these hard-working athletes, helping them become “faster, higher, stronger”.

The National Speed Skating Oval (国家速滑馆) (the Ice Ribbon) saw 12 new Olympic records and one world record, including Chinese speed skater Gao Tingyu’s Olympic record of 34.32 seconds in the men’s 500 meters.
Known as “the fastest ice”, the 12,000-square-meter rink (冰场) has received very good feedback from the athletes. “It makes everyone skate faster,” Gao Tingyu said after he bagged the gold.
The secret behind is a new carbon dioxide (一氧化碳) ice-making technology. Speed-skating requires a very flat (平滑的) ice surface. If the ice surface temperature doesn’t change much, the ice stays flatter. Flat ice is easier to skate on.Liguid (液态的) carbon dioxide was put under the ice for the first time. It cooled the ice and kept the temperature changes on the surface within just half of one degree.
In events like freestyle skiing and ski jumping, the direction and speed of the wind could largely affect athletes’ performance. A research team from the Chinese Academy of Sciences developed a wind measuring (测量) system using AI technology. “Some events only last a few seconds, and the wind is changing all the time. This system allows athletes and coaches to ‘see’ wind directly through real-time data (数据) on their pads, and decide when and where to jump,” the team leader Shao Yun told Beijing Daily.
There are many more high-tech elements that boost athletic performance, including drag-reducing (减少阻力的) sportswear, smart beds that massage (按摩) athletes, and robots that cook. All these helped keep China’s promise to hold an “athlete-centered” Olympics, said Zhao Weidong, the spokesperson of the Beijing organizing committee.
    1.Gao Tianyu set a record for ________.
A.winning the first gold for China in men’s 500 meters
B.skating the fastest speed in men’s 500 meters
C.being the youngest skater at the Olympics
D.designing the National Speed Skating Oval
2.Liquid carbon dioxide was put under the ice to ________.
A.keep the ice cold B.make the ice harder
C.save water resources D.change the temperature of the ice
3.The system from the Chinese Academy of Sciences helps athletes ________.
A.change the direction of the wind B.record their jumps in real time
C.measure wind more accuately D.reduce off-site (场外的) influence factors
4.What do we know from the words of Zhao Weidong?
A.China is expected to hold another Winter Olympics soon.

The 24th Winter Olympics were held successfully in Beijing this year. There were many great moments during the competitions. What impressed you most?
“Welcome to China!” This simple greeting from volunteer Sun Zeyu warmed the heart of a US snowboarder (单板滑雪运动员) Tessa Maud at the Olympics opening ceremony (开幕式).
“That guy who had said ‘Welcome to China’ really just makes me tear up every time because they [volunteers] are so nice. We feel so welcomed, “said Maud in the video she shared on Tik Tok.
Sun, a junior student from Tsinghua University, is an example of how Generation Z (people born between 1995 and 2010) promoted cultural and people-to-people exchanges at the Beijing Winter Games. Active and open-minded, they bridge gaps in their own ways. Their pleasant personalities, global vision and new-age thinking made the Games even more fantastic.
Gen Z athletes shared their Chinese travels on social media. Some became big fans of Chinese food. Maud shared what she ate every day on Tik Tok-fried rice, Kung Pao chicken and Peking duck. What to eat each day was a hard choice for her. “Everything is so good,” she said.
Jenise Spiteri is a snowboarder from Malta. Another volunteer, Yang Jinhe, 18, started to work on COVID-related matters in mid-December. He will also work at the Paralympic Games. Back in 2008, he was impressed by the song You and Me. Now he said he really understands the meaning of “you and me” as well as the Olympic spirit of togetherness. “Even though the pandemic is going on, we are standing here in Beijing 2022,” he said on the show Youth Power (《少年会客厅》).

I love Bing Dwen Dwen very much. Look, I have a key ring of it. It’s the mascot of the 2022 Winter Olympics. The red heart shape in its left palm means welcoming the friends from other countries.“Bing Dwen Dwen” shows the spirit of the Olympics, including a strong mind and healthy body. It looks more like an astronaut than a panda from the looks. Isn’t that fun?
    Lisa
Shuey Rhon Rhon impresses me most. It’s the mascot of the 2022 Winter Paralympics. It’s cute and lovely. It looks like a red lantern hanging on homes and streets to celebrate Chinese New Year. Red is the colour of hope and good luck, so people think their dreams will come true in the new year. “Shuey” means “snow” in Chinese. “Rhon Rhon” are two different characters (字) with the same pronunciation. The mascot “Shuey Rhon Rhon” (雪容融) stands for communication among different cultures. The choice of the lantern is also seen as the symbol of harvest, warmth and light. So whenever I see it, I feel warm.

The opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics was held in Beijing on Friday night, February 4th. Social media users described it with these words: amazing, flashing and shining.
The main stage of the ceremony in the National Stadium, commonly known as the Bird’s Nest, is designed to be like a huge Chinese character “Zhong”, covering almost the whole stage. In fact, it is the world’s largest ground LED screen. The screen, with a size of 10,552 square meters, was actually made up of about 42,000 small LED units. The huge ground screen, together with a 10-meter-high vertical (竖的) screen, allowed the audience to have a wonderful experience.
To build such a big ground LED screen wasn’t an easy task. As the main stage, on which all performances and the Parade of Nations (入场式) took place, it had to be strong, water-proof (不透水) and able to support heavy weights. What was more challenging, as the stadium is open-air, the ground screen had to be able to support the winter freezing temperature, as well as weather like rain and snow. To solve all the challenges, technicians built a special protective covering for it.
With the help of AI, 5G, AR and naked-eye 3D technologies from the company CALA, which once offered them to the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics opening ceremony, the ceremony presented many amazing moments. The most unforgettable moment is when the Olympic Rings were “carved (雕刻) out” of a 3D shaped like a block of ice on the screen. Another great point is that children sang and danced across the stage, when stars appeared on the screen under their feet.
Thanks to the screens, creative ideas and high technologies, the two-hour ceremony only needed around 3,000 excellent performers, compared with 15,000 during the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics opening ceremony. It greatly meets the theme of energy saving.
Thomas Bach, the president of IOC believed that the 2022 Olympic Winter Games would be “in safe hands” when Beijing won the right to host the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in 2015. The amazing ceremony showed the world that China has kept its promise of hosting a fantastic event with strong determination (决心) and confidence.
    14.The main stage is ________.
A.the largest vertical LED screen B.similar to “Zhong” in Chinese
C.covering the edge of the stadium D.about 10,552 meters in height
15.Technicians built a special protective covering for the ground screen because ________.
A.it had to be able to support the freezing temperature, rain and snow
B.it had to be allowed the audience to have a wonderful experience.
C.it was designed to be like a huge Chinese character “Zhong”
D.it was actually made up of about 42,000 small LED units
16.The underlined word “them” refers to ________.
A.the technologies the ceremony used B.the moments the ceremony presented
C.the screens that were served for the kids D.the rings that were “carved out” of the ice
17.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Excellent performers played quite an important role in energy saving.
B.Bach promised the Games would be safe when Beijing made the right.
C.China made a great effort to achieve a victory of the opening ceremony.
D.The ceremony was such a creative one that more performers attended it.
18.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.The high technology opens up a new field in China.

C.The opening ceremony is a difficult task for Olympics.
D.The 2022 Winter Olympics presents amazing memories.
