Cimabue, the greatest painter of a Middle Ages in Italy, was surprised one day after his lunch break to discover that a fly had seated itself under the nose of a character that he had been working on. He swatted (重拍) at the fly, but it did not move. He reached out to touch the insect, only to find it was only wet paint. Turning around, he saw that his apprentice (学徒), Giotto, was laughing. Giotto had painted the fly when Cimabue was away, and it looked so real that Cimabue had been completely fooled.
Giotto di Bondone was born into a poor family in a village. Legend has it that one day, when Cimabue was wandering around the countryside, he spotted a young shepherd boy drawing pictures of his sheep, which were so vivid that Cimabue immediately asked him to come to Florence and learn how to paint. That was how Giotto’s story began in Florence, where the young student flourished under Cimabue’s instruction and soon surpassed his master in skill.
At that time, people in paintings didn’t look real, and the symbolism of art was difficult for viewers to connect with it. Innovation (创新) was not stressed, so art had remained the same for hundreds of years.
However, Giotto thought art should be something more connected with people in a more realistic way. His masterpieces included the forty major frescoes (壁画) for the Arena Chapel. Adopting many techniques that were uncommon then, he painted people the way he saw them, instead of the overly tall and boxy people that other artists painted. He created three-dimensional space by using perspective, something that had not been done since Roman times.
In addition to painting, Giotto wrote poetry and drew architectural plans. When Giotto was in his sixties, he painted the Ognissanti Madonna, another famous work of art. He continued working until the age of seventy. The ideas Giotto brought to painting throughout his life revolutionized the art world and made him one of the greatest painters ever.
24. What does the anecdote in paragraph 1 tell us about Giotto?
A. His humor. B. His talent. C. His courage. D. His determination.
25. How did Cimabue feel about Giotto’s painting when they first met?
A. Impressed. B. Hesitant. C. Doubtful. D. Amused.
26. What made Giotto’s works distinguished at that time?
A. Vivid colors. B. Classic skills.
C. Original composition. D. Lifelike quality.
27. Which of the following best summarizes Giotto’s story?
A. Great minds think alike.
B. Innovation is the vitality of art.
C. Constant dripping wears away a stone.
D. A slow sparrow should make an early start.

Product placement is a form of advertising in which a company pays a director to place its product on the set of a movie or TV show. It isn’t new. The oldest examples date all the way back to the invention of motion pictures, when the Lever Brothers’ Sunlight Soap appeared in the Lumiere films in 1896. But as streaming has become more popular, product placements have become an even more attractive option for advertisers now.
When watching web videos, most consumers either skip or ignore the advertisements that run before the video starts. So as advertisers struggle to reach consumers, they are increasingly turning to product placement, spending advertising budgets to get their advertisements into media content in ways that can’t be skipped or ignored. Studies have shown they increase viewers’ awareness of products and their positive attitudes toward them.
Not all product placements are effective, though. Those that seem to influence viewers the most are those that strike the careful balance between being noticeable and not too boring. Viewers tend to be turned off if the product placement is too noticable, as when a character in the show holds the product and talks about it.
Viewers are most influenced by product placements in which the product or brand name is spoken by one of the characters but not shown. Also viewers may be more attracted to product placements that appear earlier in a show or movie. Because we become more engaged in the plot and characters of a show or movie as it progresses. If a placement appears at the climax — the moment when our attention is fixed on what will happen next — we’re either less likely to notice the placement or more likely to be annoyed if we do notice it.
With increasing online viewers and better designed product placement, perhaps advertisers will consider product placement their first choice and decrease their spending on traditional advertising, like TV and print ads.
- What can we know about product placement?
A. It is popular nowadays. B. It makes streaming attractive.
C. It first appeared in TV shows. D. It aims to make videos interesting.
29. What does the underlined word “ they ” in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Advertisments. B.Videos. C.Advertisers. D.Consumers.
30. Which is the most effective product placement in a movie?
A.The product is shown before the movie is on.
B.The product appears in a conversation at the climax.
C.The product is in the character’s hand at the beginning.
D.The product is mentioned not long after the movie is on.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Product placement: a future trend for advertising
B. Product placement: a new driving force behind movies
C. Product placement: a mirror of the advertisement history
D. Product placement: a perfect companion to online videos
D
When you’re working your way through one of life’s storms, it is human nature to focus on getting back to normal, to “bounce back” as quickly as possible to a place where things are calm, familiar and comfortable.
However, actually it is unrealistic to think we can ever truly return emotionally and intelligently to where we were before the storm because every experience changes us in some way. For example, when we experience a major health scare, possibly involving some hospital time, we can never go back to being the person we were before the event even if we fully recover because we have experienced firsthand the fragility(脆弱) of life, not to mention coming face to face with death.
So, now that we can never return, what should we do?
Consider this …how is it that two people can be faced with the same hardship and while one becomes hopeless and feels anger and upset, the other is able to overcome their circumstances and grow stronger than ever as a result of the experience?
At one extreme, we may choose to accept the role of unlucky victim, or become trapped in the “Why is it always me!” negative and frustrating(令人沮丧的) situations. Either way is the result of a fixed mindset(思维模式) that is resistant to growth and change. If this is your approach to life, you will be far less likely to be active in effectively managing change and recovering from bad situations.
But there is another choice. If you are honest enough, you may consider what was once “normal” for you was just the main cause of your storm. You can choose to hug change and uncertainty and learn to grow forward through all of your experiences. Of course, this means doing the work to develop the skills and habits that will enable you to handle life’s occasional storms.
In conclusion, it is up to each of us to choose the meaning we apply to our situations at all times. Different choices will lead to different lives. Of course you can grow forward if you are determined to choose live a positive life regardless of whatever hardships you are facing.
- What does the author try to convey with the example in the second paragraph?
A.We will understand life much better after an escape from death.
B.It usually takes a long time to recover from a health problem.
C.It’s unlikely to return to where we were after certain events.
D.We can recover from an emotional problem much more easily.
33. When faced with hardships, some people choose to be a victim because of ________.
A.their terrible experiences B.their negative thoughts
C.their poor health D.their bad luck
34. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To advise us to manage bad emotions.
B.To persuade us to get back to normal.
C.To offer us useful skills to work with.
D.To encourage us to overcome hardships.
35. If you’re determined to grow forward you have to ________.
A.experience life’s fragility B.welcome uncertainty and change
C.develop new skills and habits D.overcome the fear of death

第二节(满分 25 分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
As a young boy, I was carefree. Every vacation I looked forward to two things—seeing my grandpa and hearing his wonderful stories. My grandpa was a very good storyteller. He had worked various odd jobs when he was young and wove his adventures and misadventures into fantastic tales. These wonderful tales colored my childhood.
As I grew up, I had to admit that Grandpa’s stories went on a little long, even a little boring and gradually lost their magic. However, not wanting to upset him, my brother and I would sometimes take turns sitting in the living room, listening to grandpa tell his stories.
When my grandpa was approaching 91, he suffered from serious memory-loss. It was kind of what doctors called dementia (痴呆), probably the earliest stage of Alzheimer’s disease. Following the doctor’s directions, we moved him into a Sunrise Assisted Living Community, where he could get a better care. After that, grandpa hardly came to our house.
One weekend before my grandpa’s birthday, I came to visit him. Seeing grandpa sitting in his armchair, dull-looking, I was consumed with mixed feelings. I wheeled grandpa to the sunshine in the courtyard, talking to him. He couldn’t express himself clearly and spoke in short bursts, but I listened to him patiently and carefully just as I used to be a little boy.
It was then that I noticed a shadow box with some old and yellowish photos in it. I picked one up, in which my brother, several boys in our neighborhood, and I were playing basketball with grandpa cheering us on twenty years before. My mind flashed back to those beautiful memories. Back then, Grandpa was in good physical condition and we were all wearing basketball jerseys, playing and laughing with abandon. I presented the photo to my grandpa, pointing at each member and reminding him of their names. Incredibly, grandpa could speak out the name of every player. I even caught a soft light in grandpa’s eyes and a smile on his lips.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
A bright idea for grandpa’s birthday came to my mind.
