When my sister Becky was young, she was bitten by a dog. From that day on, she didn't like dogs. But all of that changed when my uncle had to be away for a week.
My uncle left his dog with us to take care of. The dog's name was Rex, and he was huge. Poor Rex liked following my sister around very much. She hated that because of her fear of dogs.
One day, to get away from Rex, my sister tied him to a chair in the yard and went for a walk in the forest. She looked back and saw him pulling at his rope, but he still stayed there.
While walking in the forest. Becky suddenly saw some wolves eating a deer that had just been killed. Normally, wolves would not attack a human, but when they are eating, they can be very dangerous, especially for a child.
Slowly, the wolves began to move towards Becky, making a circle around her. She was close to a tree, so she caught a lower branch(树枝)quickly and tried to climb up the tree. One of the wolves caught her foot. Luckily, she was able to pull herself up, but her foot was badly hurt. She shouted for help, but no one was around. She thought she was going to die. Suddenly, Rex appeared. There he was, running through the forest, pulling the chair. It was not easy for Rex, but he made his way to Becky in the tree. He attacked the wolves, soon they ran off.
When Becky and Rex got home, everyone was shocked and happy that Rex had saved my sister. He licked(舔)her face as the doctor treated her foot.

Have you watched the recent TV series Three-Body?
Adapted(改编)from Liu Cixin's sci-fi book The Three-Body Problem, the show has impressed audiences with its wonderful visual effects. One of the most exciting scenes must be Operation Guzheng.
In order to find Trisolarans(三体人)messages on a huge ship, an army plans to cut the ship into pieces. They set up many thin strings across the river, which are made from nonmaterial(纳米材料). Looking like guzheng, the strings quietly cut the steel ship into slices' as if the ship was soft tofu!
Is it possible to cut steel ships with thin strings in reality? In fact, strings are very good at cutting. For example, an egg slicer uses thin wires to cut eggs into slices. A kite line can easily hurt people if it gets tangled(缠绕) around their necks. This is because the thin strings have a very small contact area(接触面积), leading to a high intensity of pressure when they cut things.
In the TV series, the strings are as thin as a tenth of a human hair. To cut the steel ship, the pressure needs to be 200 MPa, according to the science website Guokr. How strong is that pressure? Imagine an elephant standing on a string! In reality, scientists won't be able to make such thin strings that wouldn't easily break, at least for years to come. The cutting will also create lots of heat. We don't have the material to bear the high temperature while it's also thin enough to cut through.
But what we have today is called "water jet cutting(水刀)". We can cut hard materials such as metal, stone, or glass using a high-pressure jet of water. The water's speed can reach 1000 meters per second (about three times the speed of sound), and the pressure can be over 400 MPa. However, the waterjet can only cut things less than 20 centimeters(厘米)thick. That's still far away from the nanotechnology in the show.
    36. What is the aim of Operation Guzheng in the TV series?
    A. To find a huge ship. B. To hunt for Trisolarans.
    C. To reveal(揭露) Trisolarans' secrets. D. To develop nanomaterial.
    37. How does Operation Guzheng get its name ?
    A. Sounds of Guzheng are used as code.
    B. They use strings from Guzheng to contact.
    C. There are important messages hidden in a Guzheng.
    D. They use Guzheng-like strings to cut a steel ship.
    38. Paragraph 3 is written to show ____________.
    A. how thin the strings can be in the or day or
    B. how thin strings can be used to cut things
    C. that thin strings can only cut soft things
    D. what areas strings can be used in life
    39. What makes Operation Guzheng impossible in reality?
    A. Strings can't be made long enough to go across a river.
    B. A steel hip can bear an intensity of pressure of up to 200 MPa.
    C. Strings can't be made as thin as a tenth of a human hair.
    D. No string can bear such high pressure and heat as shown in the series.
    40. Why can't the "waterjet cutting" be used for Operation Guzheng?
    A. Because it can't produce high enough pressure.
    B. Because it can't be used to cut metal.
    C. Because the ship is too thick for it to cut.
    D. Because the water's speed is too fast to control.
    D
There are lots of things that cause stress in our lives, such as school problems, arguments with friends and sometimes bad feelings about ourselves. We all experience stress at times, but it's important to manage it properly and reduce its influence. Here are some helpful tips for dealing with stress.
Sometimes we feel stressed without understanding the reason. So whenever you're stressed, you should stop and think.
What is really happening? How can you improve the situation? Try keeping a diary about your problems and the possible causes.
Do you always wait until Sunday evening to do homework? This bad habit can cause "last-minute" stress, as well as poor grades. To avoid that, time management is greatly needed. Plan your studies and other activities with a calendar. You can also divide big projects into smaller tasks. In this way, you'll always know how much time you really have.
Besides, healthy habits are very important for reducing stress. Be sure to eat healthy meals and get at least eight hours of sleep. Avoid checking your mobile phone or using the computer before bedtime. It will keep you awake!
When you're feeling stressed, it's helpful to speak to someone who understands your situation, such as your friends and families. Sometimes it's enough to talk about your problems and share your feelings. Other times, however, you might need advice or suggestions. Don't keep your worries to yourself.
Finally, relaxation is important. Find some free time for activities that you enjoy, such as sports, hobbies and meeting with friends. For example, seeing a film or hanging out after 5 days'study could be a good choice. If you find some time to relax and enjoy yourself, you'll feel refreshed, have more energy, and reduce your level of stress.
    41. What advice does the writer give to reduce stress in Paragraph 3?
    A. Stop and think. B. Manage your time.
    C. Watch your health. D. Reach out for help.
    42. How does the writer develop Paragraph 6?
    A. By telling stories. B. By listing numbers. C. By asking questions. D. By giving examples.
    43. Which of the following is the structure of the passage?

    44. What's the best title of the passage?
    A. How to Improve the Situation B. How to Manage Time
    C. How to Be Refreshed D. How to Deal with Stress
    45. What can we get from the passage?
    A. We can always find a reason for our stress.
    B. You can turn to anyone when you are stressed.
    C. You can spend all your time taking part in all kinds of activities.
    D. It is very important to find proper ways to deal with stress.

Wang Yaping, together with Zhai Zhigang and Ye Guangfu, went into space aboard the Shenzhou XIII on October 16th. The 41-year-old Wang became the first female astronaut (女航天员) to enter Tiangong space station.
Wang’s space dream started in 2003, when China sent its first astronaut Yang Liwei into space. At that time, Wang was a pilot in the Chinese army. After having safe flights for 1,600 hours over nine years, Wang was a strong candidate to become an astronaut in 2010. She pushed herself hard, getting the same training as men. “The space environment won’t change because you are a woman,” she told Xinhua.
The hardest part is the high-G training. Sitting in a spinning (旋转的) machine, Wang would become blind for a while because her brain was short of blood. “There’s a red button (按钮), said Wang.” If you can’t bear it, you can press it to stop.” But Wang never used it. “There is no such red button in my heart.” That strong spirit finally made her dream come true in 2013. Scientists around the world are racing to create and test vaccines(疫苗)to help protect people against the COVID-19. They are making progress, and some vaccines have been ready.
There are many different ways to make vaccines. At least 115 different vaccines for the COVID-19 are being developed around the world right now. Many of them may not work or may have side effects that can be dangerous. That is why testing is very important.
Before a vaccine is ever tested on humans, it’s first tested on animals to make sure it seems safe. Testing the vaccine on humans is done in several different periods. In Period 1, a small group of people are given small amounts of the vaccine to see if it has any bad effects. Period 2 still tests the vaccine’s safety, but it’s mainly a test to see if the vaccine seems to work. If Period 2 goes well, the vaccine can begin Period 3. During Period 3, the vaccine is tried on a much larger group of people to see how well it works.
Because of the serious and worldwide influence of the COVID-19, there is huge pressure to develop a working vaccine quickly. It usually takes seven or more years to develop a safe vaccine that works well. However, Chinese scientists spent only about half a year to create working vaccines. And many people have got the vaccine so far.
