Figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu, who won men’s singles Olympic gold medals in 2014 and 2018, said Tuesday he was retiring from competition.
He won the men’s singles gold at the Sochi Games in 2014 and again at the Pyeongchang Games in South Korea in 2018, becoming the first men’s skater to achieve consecutive (连续不断的) golds in the category since Dick Button in 1948 and 1952. At this year’s Winter Games in Beijing, he attempted to become the first man to complete a quadruple axel-4 rotations (旋转) in the air at the Olympics, a jump that he had previously come close to achieving in Japan. In Beijing, he came just short of completing the required rotations for the quadruple axel and fell on his rear, but he expressed satisfaction with his effort afterward and hinted he was ready to retire.
“In terms of how it feels for me, I don’t imagine it being all that different.” he said. “Of course, I feel strongly that I’d like to achieve success with the quadruple axel.”
Beyond his jumping ability, Hanyu’s gift for the dramatics and his gentle appearance made him popular among admirers. Some said he looked as if he had danced off the pages of a Japanese cartoon. They would throw Winnie the Pooh stuffed bears—reportedly his favorite cartoon character—on the ice after his performances. In China, crowds gathered outside the Beijing venue to express devotion to their favorite, and one Chinese follower on social media called Hanyu “the most beautiful icy fairy in my heart”.
In recent years, Hanyu has been suffering from injuries. He said he had constantly thought about retiring from competition since the 2018 Winter Games. “If we’re talking about when I considered turning professional. I was thinking about that at every single competition,” Hanyu said. He said he made the final decision after the Beijing Games as he was recovering from his ankle injury.
24.What can we know from Hanyu’s many experiences?
A.He won the first Olympic gold medal of skiing in 2014.
B.He is the first men’s skater to win two golds continuously.
C.He is the first to perform the quadruple axel successfully.
D.He first indicated his retirement in Beijing.
25.Why does Hanyu attract many admirers?
A.Because of his favourite stuffed bear.
B.Because of the Japanese cartoon pages.
C.Because of his popularity on social media.
D.Because of his looking and performance.
26.How does Hanyu feel about his retiring from competition?
    A.Unexpected.
    B.Long-awaited.
    C.Encouraging.
    D.Thrilling.
27.What would be the best title of this passage?
A.Ice Prince Yuzuru Hanyu Retires from Competition
B.Figure Skater Yuzuru Hanyu, Satisfied with Victory
C.Being Injured, the Ice Prince Sticks to His Dream
D.The Consecutive Golds Winner Has Made His Glory

You probably have a first-aid kit at home for your family—but what about your family pets? You need to be ready if your furry friend faces an emergency at home. What's more,as the weather gets warmer, more pet owners take their pets with them when they leave the house—on vacation,to the park, jogging, hiking and even swimming. That can be fun for you and your pet,but there's a chance that your pet will get hurt there,as well. So,it's important to know some of the basics of first aid for your pet if necessary.
If your pet is exposed to long periods of heat and sunlight, she will be easy to get heat exhaustion(衰竭)or heatstroke. Signs of heat exhaustion are breathless, anxiousness, dry gums and red skin most easily seen on the ears.
If either of these occurs, cool the pet right away and,as always, get her to the vet(兽医).Put the animal in a shaded or air-conditioned area, and wet the body with cool water. Rubbing isopropyl alcohol(异丙醇)on the belly and fanning the area will help drive away the heat. If a pet is suffering from heatstroke, don't try to give her water. Get her to the vet immediately.
If you see an animal that's been hit by a car,or you hit one accidentally, first be cautious of all oncoming traffic before trying to reach the animal. Approach carefully. Even a severely injured animal can bite you.
As someone helps with directing traffic, cover the animal with a blanket or towel. If the animal cannot stand on her own, there's a good chance that there are neck, back or head injuries, so try to gently transfer the animal to a flat surface. Then transport that flat surface to the nearest vet. Picking up or hand-carrying the animal may worsen the injuries.
28.What is the main idea of the first paragraph?
A.It is dangerous to keep pets outside.
B.It is necessary to prepare for pets' first aid.
C.It is fun to bring pets while you go out.
D.It is possible for pets to run away from home.
29.If a pet suffers from heatstroke, what should you do?
A.Wet her body with cold water.
    B.Make her drink some alcohol.
C.Bring her to the vet at once.
D.Freeze her in an air-conditioned area.
30.How can you help an animal injured in an accident?
A.By running to help her immediately.
B.By carrying her in your hands to the vet.
C.By picking her up in a gentle way.
D.By sending her to the vet on a flat surface.
31.The underlined word "transfer" in the last paragraph may mean" ________ ".
    A.move B.trap
    C.feed D.drive
    D
Migraine is a disease that has a number of symptoms (症状), including head pain that can stick around from four hours to several days. While migraines can happen partly because of genetic (基因的) problems, attacks may happen by chance, set off by a cause in the environment.
One common cause is food, and some common dietary causes include alcohol, salt, sugar, chocolate, and caffeine. But there are many others, and scientists continue to identify more. Last year, for example, a Brazilian study found that watermelons brought on a headache within minutes in about 30 percent of the participants.
Some new researches are looking at which foods and what kinds of diets can prevent or lessen migraines. A new study published last year by a team of researchers found that a diet higher in fish oils rather than vegetable oils helped people ease their headaches. In the study, those on a diet lower in vegetable oil and higher in fatty fish had a 30 to 40 percent reduction in total headache hours per day, serious headache hours per day, and overall headache days per month compared to the control group.
Tanya Kamka had suffered weekly migraines for most of her life. Then, in her 50s, she joined the NIH diet experiment and increased her intake of fish. After only a few months, “I haven’t had a migraine, not even a mild one, in over two years.” she says.
For others, the solution comes from plants, not fish. A 60-year-old man joined a study on the food-migraine link and turned to a diet, which includes a lot of dark, leafy greens. After two months he was experiencing only one migraine a month instead of the 18 to 24 a month he’d suffered before.
Clearly, people with migraines react to food in very different ways. What works for one person may not work for another.
32.What do we know about migraine from paragraph 1?
A.It is related to sleep time. B.It never runs in the family.
C.It lasts for at least three hours. D.It can be caused by the environment.
33.What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The length of migraine. B.Foods that lead to migraine.
C.The most common cause of migraine. D.A Brazilian study about migraine.
34.What can lessen migraines according to a new study published last year?
    A.Fish oils. B.Vegetable oils.
C.All kinds of fat. D.Various Vegetables.
35.Which is the author’s opinion about the effect of food on migraines?
A.It varies from person to person. B.It can only stay for a short time.
C.It depends on the age of a patient. D.It is connected to how much one takes.

It was the worst day ever. In fact, that’s what we named it, all caps:WORST DAY EVER. The exact date was March 19, 2007, and I’ll never forget it.
The day began as usual. My husband, Alan, a manager working for a national restaurant chain, entered his office in our home to participate in conference calls. From my spot in the kitchen, I could overhear his conversation with his boss. It turned out that my fears were confirmed. Alan’s position had been dismissed. I hugged my husband as my heart sank. What were we going to do? Would we lose our house if we couldn’t afford to pay our mortgage(按揭贷款)?“We’ll be fine, ”he said . “I know, ”I responded . But, frankly, neither of us was very convincing.
I wanted to crawl back in bed and pull the covers over my head, but I had to go to work. So, I quickly showered, dressed, and made my way to work. It was a few hours into my shift when I received a call from the doctor’s office. “You have cancer, ”he stated. “What?”It sounded like something completely ridiculous, since I was a positive and healthy runner. That day I forgot how I arrived home.
I thought about how wonderful things had been up until this day. Alan and I had enjoyed a happy life in our lovely suburban home. We loved our jobs, traveling and fancy dinners. It was all too good to last, I thought. Now it’s time to pay back for all those amazing years. I imagined hospital beds, my bald head and worse. I prepared myself for a future of coping(应对), or no future at all .
I cried and Alan held me in his arms. “Someday in the future, we’re going to write about today, ”he whispered in my ear, “and we’ll call it Worst Day Ever. ”
    注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
    2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
In the following days, we both got right to work.

Aiming to promote traditional Chinese culture, the Student Union is to hold the Poetry Recitation Contest.
There is no doubt that reading poetry reflects on the appreciation of beauty in ancient literature. As scheduled, the contest is supposed to be launched on January 6th, 2019 at the school's Lecture Hall. Students from the international department are also expected to take part. Additionally, it is recommended that you should prepare Tang and Song poetry. Not only can the contest help us cultivate the habit of reading classic works but also arouse our interest in traditional Chinese literature.
Hopefully, you will benefit a lot and be immersed in the world of fascinating poetry. Your participation will surely make a difference.

In the following days, we both got right to work. Alan began calling everyone he could think of with possible connections in the restaurant industry. He tirelessly applied and interviewed for dozens of positions. We were able to find a brilliant oncologist who immediately began to perform intensive scans and other tests to determine the stage and severity of my cancer. Time dragged on. Our anxiety was high, but we kept our heads up and always looked forward.
After several months, our hard work eventually paid off. Within several months, Alan was offered a new position at a thriving restaurant chain, with excellent pay and terrific benefits. My oncologist completed her tests, and the results were more than encouraging. Worst Day Ever itself stripped away all the trivial stuff and shone a bright spotlight on all the important things, like faith, family, perseverance, love, and health. Alan and I were blessed with an abundance of these things. We’ll never, ever take them for granted again. Worst Day Ever taught us how to cherish each one, on a much deeper, more profound level.
