And n ne heard f this term. Thus I began my jurney thrugh the unwritten expectatins and assumed knwledge abut applying t graduate schl.
I sent that prfessr an email, asking whether he had time t talk t me. He agreed t meet virtually, explained his graduate research, and shared stries f fieldwrk, but he made n mentin f hw students were supprted. I didn't think t ask. I assumed pursuing a graduate degree wuld mean paying tuitin arnd ging withut incme. That was nt an ptin fr me. S, I tried t let g f the idea f cntinuing my educatin.
Later I learned frm my adviser that many prgrams nt nly cver tuitin, but als ffer schlarship. My dream became a pssibility again.
Then came the next prblem:figuring ut hw t apply. I fell int a rabbit hle f Internet advice frm self-appinted experts, each with a different pinin n email etiquette(礼仪),interview scheduling, and hw t express interest in a prject. The suggested timelines cntradicted(相矛盾) ne anther. I felt hpeless again, terrified I wuld break an unspken rule.
But I gathered all the advice I culd and spent hurs crafting emails t prfessrs. Ultimately,I was accepted t wrk n a master’s prject in a city where I had always wanted t live.
Standing in the lab that day, I realized that—despite my uncertainty—I had made it exactly where I had hped t be. When I had started dwn this path, there was s much I didn't knw. But I made it by trying walking int the unknwn.

Abut 15 years ag,Eppley wrked with suthern bamb lemurs, which were knwn t spend mst f their days in the trees, feeding n bamb leaves. Hwever, he was surprised t find these lemurs were spending mst time n the grund and had an incredibly diverse diet. He wndered whether habitat reductin and limited fd resurce availability were driving them mve t the grund. This inspired him t begin this study.
He reached ut t every researcher he culd find wh may have significant data n primates frm Madagascar r the Americas, the tw places with almst all tree-dwelling primates.
Eppley examined mre than 150,000 hurs f data bserved n 32 mnkey species and 15 lemur species at 68 sites. He fund that they spent an average f nly 2.5% f their time n the grund each mnth. But the findings shwed sme interesting differences.
“As habitats are degraded and the climate wrsens, primates that are flexible enugh t adapt because f their diverse diets r live in larger grups may be mre likely t shift t life n the grund,”Eppley says.“Hwever, ther species that rely n fruit diets r live in small grups are less adaptable and are less willing t leave the tree. Fr these species, we will still need t enfrce fast and effective cnservatin strategies t ensure their survival.”
Althugh mving t the grund has sme advantages in certain situatins, primates can face prblems when they leave the trees. They can becme victims f ther animals and diseases. Besides, they will be faced with finding apprpriate fd resurces n the grund, thus having a brad r flexible diet is imprtant. Primates are imprtant seed spreaders within their frest habitats. C.Mre natural habitats will be lst.
D.Mre animal-related diseases will appear.

A study lked at the varius mdes f e-nbility in Germany t find e-bikes are all charged up and leading the pack.
The mst surprising finding was the number f e-bikes:18% f the respndents stated they used an e-bike,cmpared t an als impressive 7% wh said they use an e-car. E-bikes were cnsidered practical cmpared t regular bikes because f the reduced physical exertin and extended range. Anther benefit f e-bikes ver e-cars is that they are fun. This apparently makes them the mst“attractive”frm f an electric vehicle.
In Nrth America,we ften need a car t g arund, but in Germany, just ver half f the e-bike users managed t d s. Hwever, 68%f these e-car users did, prbably“due t the ability t transprt larger items”.
Perhaps the mst interesting numbers are thse fr the distance travelled. E-bikes are used fr trips with a length f 15 kilmeters, significantly less than the 25-kilmeter trip length fr the e-cars but still a big number fr a bike trip.
The study stated,“E-bikes are already the mst cmmnly used means f electric transprtatin in Germany.”
This is gd news fr Nrth America, which has fallen behind Eurpean cuntries in e-bike uptake. The U. S. Office f Energy Efficiency said,“Data cllected n ne-way husehld trips shw that 59.4% f vehicle trips were less than six miles. In fact, three furths f all trips are ten miles r less.”
Others tell us that the infrastructure(设施)is terrible, but cities in Texas are investing in bike infrastructure. Fr the e-bike revlutin t take ff,we need gd affrdable bikes, safe places t ride, and secure places t park. It's als apparent that we need better regulatin f e-bikes t ensure they all meet related standard t avid battery fires like thse happening in New Yrk.
But in Germany, the verall success f e-bikes can be expected t cntinue bth in terms f ppularity f e-bikes and in terms f ttal sales.
32.What des the underlined wrd“exertin”in Paragraph 2 prbably mean?
A.Weight. B.Effrt. C.Cntact. D.Barrier.
33. What can we infer abut Nrth America frm Paragraph 6?
A.It is prer than Eurpe. B.Its residents prefer lng trips.
C.Its rad cnditins are terrible. D.It has the cnditins t prmte e-bikes.
34. What is the authr's attitude tward the use f e-bikes?
A.Favrable. B.Dubtful.
C.Uninterested. D.Objective.
35. Which can be the best title fr the text?
A.E-Bikes Still Need Imprving B.E-Bikes Are Widely Used fr Trips
C.E-Bikes Are Ppular in Germany D.E-Bikes Are Cming t Nrth America
