(2022·江苏扬州·统考二模)So much of a healthy life is about forming good habits. For people in many European countries, healthy food, regular exercise and taking time to relax are part of their daily routines. Here are the top three healthiest countries in Bloomingberg’s list this year.
    Spain
As the world’s healthiest nation in the 2019 Healthiest Country Index, people in Spain have a “Mediterranean diet”. It includes seafood, nuts and vegetables.
However, the healthiest thing about Spain is not the food, but rather the relaxed way that people enjoy it. While eating out, they may stay to talk, keep getting together, and perhaps share a glass of wine. If the conversation gets good, they’ll stay for hours until late night.
    Italy
Like Spain, Italy’s typical (典型的) eating diet also plays a huge role in the country’s health.
Besides eating, Italians typically walk or cycle to their schools and offices. Usually, they spend less time sitting around than people in other countries.
    Iceland
Iceland is one of the healthiest countries in the world. For example, they live very long lives.
When it comes to eating, Icelanders keep things simple: lots of fresh dishes made up of seafood and dairy (奶制品) from grassfed cows. This diet reduces the risks of some serious diseases.
Maybe the most important is that hot springs (温泉) provide Icelanders with a relaxing place. Besides, they travel too much.

1.Spanish people stay outside for hours until late night because they ________.A.talk happily B.eat a lot C.have a glass of wine D.travel too much
2.Which of the following is NOT the reason for Icelanders’ long lives?

3.What do people in Spain, Italy and Iceland do in common?
A.Travel around. B.Drink wines with their friends.
C.Spend time sitting around. D.Eat healthy food and take time to relax.

(2022·江苏扬州·统考二模)Later in the summer, Tom decided to go digging for buried (埋藏) treasure. He found Huck and told him all about the places that robbers hid their treasure and a treasure map.
One day, they decided they would start digging under a dead tree near the haunted house. They talked about what they would do with their treasure. Huck said he would spend his so his father couldn’t get any of it. They dug for a while, and then gave up and tried another place. There’s no treasure there, either. Tom realized they should return at midnight to dig again. As a result, the boys failed to find treasure that night. Finally they both agreed that the next day they would dig in the haunted house, and Huck believed they were taking chances to get treasure if they did.
They met again with their tools and went to the haunted house. They explored the downstairs, as they got ready to leave, they heard two men coming to the door of the house. Scared, the boys hid themselves upstairs to see who they were. They recognized one man. It was Injun Joe! The unknown man was saying something dangerous. Tom and Huck were scared to death, so they stayed quiet. The men were talking about some “work” that the unknown man believed to be too dangerous. Tom and Huck couldn’t believe they were watching real robbers bury treasure! It included thousands of dollars in gold and treasure.
The men wanted to bury all their treasure again when Injun Joe started wondering why there were some tools in the house. Surely someone was there, he decided to hide the money somewhere else. He then started looking around the house for the owners of the tools. He was almost up the stairs when the bad wood broke and he fell down. Then the boys walked home quickly.

(2022·江苏扬州·统考二模)What is a hero? We may think of the fictional characters with super powers or great people who can influence world events. Now, as the nation continues its all-out efforts to fight against the novel coronavirus pneumonia (新冠肺炎), medical workers have become heroes in the eyes of the public.
As of Feb 19, a total of 32, 000 medical workers outside Hubei province have been working to treat patients around the center of the outbreak.
Zhang Dingyu, the president of Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, is one of these heroes, since the hospital received the first seven patients in December, Zhang has been so busy that he barely gets any sleep. Even suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (肌萎缩侧索硬化), the 56-year-old doctor is doing his best to quicken his pace to save precious time for infected patients.
“I have to run, racing against time to save more patients from the deadly disease, because I don’t have much time left in my life,” Zhang told Xinhua News Agency.
With the duty of saving lives, many medical professionals like Zhang have been working long hours for days, despite their fear and worries.
Lu Jingjing from Wuhan Children’s Hospital also works at a temporary mobile hospital. She does not let her parents know that she is now working with novel coronavirus-infected patients.
When her parents ask for a video chat, Lu says she is working and lets her husband and children chat with them instead.
“It’s dangerous but we should win the battle with the virus as soon as possible, so that medical workers and patients can go back home,” she told China Daily.

(2022·江苏扬州·统考二模)According to a survey, U.S. customers care about their personal information and identities (身份) during the holiday season. But the survey shows these worries won’t affect how they shop. On the days of deals (交易日)—online and in stores—create even more opportunities to steal customers’ information. Here are some simple tips to protect your personal data.
Be aware of your surroundings. It seems like it should go without saying, but 43 percent of identity theft comes from a stolen wallet, checkbook, credit card, or other physical document. While holiday shopping, keep an eye on your things and stay aware of what’s going on around you.
Be careful with those public, unsafe coffee shop Wi-Fi networks. If you use an unsafe network, other users on the network can see what you see and what you send. They could break into your conversation and log in as you. New hacking tools available for free online make this easy, even for users with limited technical know-how.
Think carefully about providing your information. Mobile shopping apps are convenient, but they can store your name, address, phone number, email details. Look for apps that are clear about how they keep your data safe. Never provide information tied to your identity, like your bank account number, to someone announcing to be from a government business.
And, as all customer protection guides will tell you, don’t send cash (现金). Is someone asking you to send money immediately for a deal that seems too good to be true, or saying you qualify for a government support but need to send them a cash fee to receive it? Don’t buy it. Scammers will ask you to pay in ways that let them get cash fast and make it rather difficult for you to get your money back.
12.What did the survey show in Paragraph 1?
A.U.S. customers are afraid of shopping.
B.U.S. customers’ information is stolen every day.
C.U.S. customers care about their personal information.
D.U.S. customers usually shop online instead of in stores.
13.Where does identity theft sometimes come from?
A.Your name. B.Your credit card. C.Your email. D.Your phone number.
14.The underlined word “Scammers” in the last paragraph may mean ________.
    A.受害者 B.目击者 C.抢劫犯 D.诈骗犯
15.In order to protect our personal data, we’d better ________.
A.use coffee shop Wi-Fi networks if possible
B.take notice of our surroundings while shopping
C.provide your information while mobile shopping
D.send cash to the government business if you are asked to

(2022·江苏常州·校考二模)Uh-oh, the new year’s just begun and already you’re finding it hard to keep those resolutions (决心) to junk the junk food, get off the couch or kick smoking. There’s a biological reason why a lot of our bad habits are so hard to break—they get connected with our brains.
That’s not an excuse to give up. Understanding how unhealthy behaviors become deeply rooted has scientists learning some tricks that may help good habits replace the bad.
“Why are bad habits stronger? You’re fighting against the power of an immediate reward,” says Dr. Nora Volkow, an authority on the brain’s pleasure pathway.
“We all as creatures are behaving that way, to give greater value to an immediate reward as opposed to something that’s delayed,” Volkow says.
Just how that bit of happiness turns into a habit involves a pleasure-sensing chemical named dopamine. It conditions the brain to want that reward again and again—strengthening the connection each time—especially when it gets the right clue (暗示) from your environment. People tend to think they have the ability to resist temptations (抵制诱惑) around them, thus weakening efforts to kick bad habits, says experimental psychologist Loran Nordgren.
A movement to pay people for behavior changes may use that connection, as some companies offer employees outright payments for starting better habits.
However paying for behavior plays out, researchers say there are still some steps that may help fight your brain’s hold on bad habits.
Repeat, repeat, repeat the new behavior—the same routine at the same time of day. Determined to exercise? Doing it at the same time of the morning, rather than fitting it once in a while, makes the brain recognize the habit finally, “If you don’t do it, you feel terrible,” says Volkow, the neuroscientist, who’s also a running lover.
Reward yourself with something you really desire, Volkow stresses. Stuck to your diet? Buy a book, a great pair of jeans, or try a fancy restaurant.
19.What makes bad habits hard to break?
A.Stronger connection between brain and environment.
    B.People’s desire for immediate rewards.
    C.Great temptations around people.
    D.Huge value they bring people.
20.The underlined word “outright” has the closest meaning to “________”.
    A.wrong B.delayed C.immediate D.reasonable
21.Which of the following is NOT the effective way to kick bad habits?
    A.Doing different exercises.
    B.Getting paid for good habits.
    C.Sticking to new behaviors.
D.Treating yourself to what you really want as a reward.

(2022·江苏常州·校考二模)For some people, music is no fun at all. About four percent of the population is what scientists call “amusic”. People who are amusic are born without the ability to recognize or reproduce musical notes(音调). Amusic people often cannot tell the difference between two songs. Amusics can only hear the difference between two notes if they are very far apart on the musical scale.
As a result, songs sound like noise to an amusic. Many amusics compare the sound of music to pieces of metal hitting each other. Life can be hard for amusics. Their inability to enjoy music set them apart from others. It can be difficult for other people to identify with their condition. In fact, most people cannot begin to grasp what it feels like to be amusic. Just going to a restaurant or a shopping mall can be uncomfortable or even painful. That is why many amusics intentionally stay away from places where there is music. However, this can result in withdrawal and social isolation. “I used to hate parties,” says Margaret, a seventy-year-old woman who only recently discovered that she was amusic. By studying people like Margarct, scientists are finally learning how to identify this unusual condition.
Scientists say that the brains of amusics are different from the brains of people who can appreciate music. The difference is complex(复杂的), and it doesn’t involve(包含, 涉及)defective hearing. Amusics can understand other nonmusical sounds well. They also have no problems understanding ordinary speech. Scientists compare amusics to people who just can’t see certain colors.
Many amusics are happy when their condition is finally diagnosed(诊断). For years, Margaret felt embarrassed about her problem with music. Now she knows that she is not alone. There is a name for her condition. That makes it easier for her to explain. “When people invite me to a concert, I just say, ‘No, thanks. I’m amusic,’”says Margaret. “I just wish I had learned to say that when I was seventeen and not seventy.”
22.Which of the following is true of amusics?
A.Listening to music is far from enjoyable for them.
B.They love places where they are likely to hear music.
C.They can easily tell two different songs apart.
D.Their situation is well understood by musicians.
23.According to Paragraph 3, a person with “defective hearing” is probably one who ________.
A.dislikes listening to speeches B.can hear anything nonmusical
    C.has a hearing problem D.lacks a complex hearing system
24.In the last paragraph, Margaret expressed her wish that ________.
A.her problem with music had been diagnosed earlier
B.she were seventeen years old rather than seventy
C.her problem could be easily explained
D.she were able to meet other amusics
25.What is the passage mainly concerned with?
A.Amusics’ strange behaviors. B.Some people’s inability to enjoy music.
C.Musical talent and brain structure. D.Identification and treatment of amusics.

(2022·江苏常州·校考二模)Knowing that Mrs. Mallard suffered from a heart trouble, great care was taken to tell her as gently as possible the news of her husband’s death.
It was her sister Josephine who told her, in broken sentences. Her husband’s friend Richards was there, too. He had been in the newspaper office when news of the railroad disaster was received, with Brently Mallard’s name leading the list of “killed”. He had only taken the time to make sure of its truth by a second telegram, and hurried to send the sad message.
She did not hear the story as many women have heard the same. She wept at once, with wild abandonment (抛弃), in her sister’s arms. When the storm of sadness had spent itself she went away to her room alone.
There stood, facing the open window, a comfortable armchair. Into this she sank, tired from a physical exhaustion that held her body and seemed to reach into her soul.
She could see in the open square before her house the tops of trees that were all aquiver (颤抖的, 兴奋的) with the new spring life. The delicious breath of rain was in the air. The notes of a distant song which someone was singing reached her, and countless sparrows were twittering in the eaves (屋檐).
There was something coming to her and she was waiting for it, fearfully. What was it? It was too hard to name. But she felt it, coming out of the sky, reaching toward her through the sounds, the smells, the color that filled the air.
Now her chest rose and fell violently. She was beginning to recognize this thing that was approaching to possess her, and she was trying very hard to beat it back with her will. When she gave up trying, a little whispered word escaped her lips. She said it over and over under the breath: “free, free, free!”
She did not stop to ask if it was extreme joy that held her. She knew that she would weep again when she saw the kind, gentle hands folded in death; the face that had never looked at her except with love, gray and dead. But she saw beyond that bitter moment many years to come that would belong to her absolutely. And she opened and spread her arms out to them in welcome.
There would be no one to live for during those coming years; she would live for herself. There would be no powerful will against hers.
And yet she had loved him—sometimes. What did it matter! What could love count for in the face of her new freedom.
“Free! Body and soul free!” she kept whispering.
Josephine was kneeling before the closed door with her lips to the keyhole. “Louise, open the door! I beg; open the door—you will make yourself ill.”
“Go away. I am not making myself ill.”
Her fancy (幻想) was running wild along those days ahead of her, all sorts of days that would be her own. She breathed a quick prayer that life might be long. It was only yesterday she had thought with a shake that life might be long.
She stood up after a long time and opened the door to her sister’s begging. She carried herself unknowingly like a goddess of Victory. She held her sister’s waist, and together they walked down the stairs.
Someone was opening the front door with a key, It was Brently Mallard who entered, a little travel-stained (风尘仆仆的), calmly carrying his suitcase and umbrella. He had been far from the scene of the accident, and did not even know there had been one, He stood amazed at Josephine’s sharp cry; at Richards’ quick motion to screen him from the view of his wife.

(2022·江苏常州·常州市朝阳中学校考二模)Have you ever seen bronzeware (青铜器)? It can be thousands of years old. Recently, a middle school in Shanxi held an exhibition named Dazzling Bronzeware Memories. The exhibits (展品), however, were not that old at all, but they were really amazing. Now many more schools are interested in the activity after learning about it.
Junior high school students from Taiyuan Lingde Middle School made more than 130 pieces of “bronzeware”. The materials included cardboard boxes, foamed plastics (泡沫塑料), clay and paint. They cut the cardboard into shapes and then coated them with bronze-colored paint or clay. “These ‘bronze’ artworks looked so real! I felt like I went back in history,” said one student visitor.
Li Danyu from Grade 7 made a set of chimes (编钟). “I watched a chime music show in Xi’an when I was in Grade 5,” said Li. “The sounds of this ancient instrument were so beautiful that I fell in love with it.” “The hardest part was to add the patterns,” said Li. “I used napkins to fold complex patterns, such as Xiangyun and dragons, and glued them to the chimes. I also imitated (模仿) a real chime bell and wrote the characters ‘Chu Hui Wang’ in zhuanshu.”
Yang Zixing, in Grade 7, is crazy about ancient weapons (武器), so he made a halberd (戟). “I sprayed green, gold and blue paint on the main body, and added some black to the edge. In this way, the ‘bronzeware’ looks ‘unearthed (出土的)’,” Yang said.

D.Yang Zixing also made Simuwu Rectangle Ding for the exhibition.
35.What may be the purpose of holding such exhibitions among middle schools?
A.To make students know how to make good handicrafts.
B.To make students interested in how to produce bronzeware in modern ways.
C.To make students school life more interesting.
D.To make students interested in traditional culture and art.

(2022·江苏常州·常州市朝阳中学校考二模)Dance is one of the most natural forms of human communication. In many cultures, dance has both historic and cultural meanings, which is communicated through gestures and expressions. Here’s a bit more detail about four of the world’s most beautiful dances.
    Waltz
This graceful and slow two person dance was first introduced in mid-19th century and was greatly popularized by the music of the famous composer Johann Strauss. Today this dance represents gold standard and the most famous dance of the ballrooms around the world.
    Tango
The dance has its roots in an African slave dance called candombe, which is also a type of music. One component of a candombe performance is a partnered dance, which has over time developed into the modern tango. If you can keep your eyes on one part of the tango, just focus on the dancers’ legs and feet. The tango is typically performed low to the ground, with both performers’ dance steps often taking place at the same time. It’s complex and communicative.
    Kathakali
Kathakali is the most wellknown dance drama from the south Indian state of Kerala. It is a storytelling dance, during which performers use different kinds of gestures, and eye and facial expressions to communicate meaning. Costurnes, hair styles, face paint and jewelry also hold specific meaning in the performance of kathakali. There are nine facial expressions used to express feelings ranging from sadness and anger to curiosity and disgust (厌恶). Through their expressions, it should be clear to the viewer what the performer is intending to tell.
    Flamenco
One of the most interesting facts about the flamenco is that it began as a song. Over time, flamenco developed to include its nowfamous passionate (热情的) dance. One of the key components of the flamenco is palmas. It may look like simple, rhythmic clapping, but palmas are performed at different speeds and strengths, and it is important that the flamenco dancer understand how to make use of his or her hands as part of the performance.
36.What should you pay attention to when you enjoy a part of tango?
A.The dancers’ eye contact. B.The dancers’ legs and feet.

(2022·江苏常州·常州市朝阳中学校考二模)In the village, close by the roadside, there was a little garden in which grew many beautiful flowers. Close by it, by the ditch(沟) grew a little daisy (雏菊).The sun shone as warmly and as brightly upon it as on the other beautiful garden flowers, and so it grew from hour to hour. One morning it stood in full bloom(盛开), with its little shining white leaves spreading like rays round the little yellow sun in the centre. It never thought that no man would notice it down in the grass, so it was poor; Instead, it was pleased, and turned to the warm sun, looked up at it, and listened to the beautiful sounds of the birds in the air.
The little daisy was always happy and sat on its little green stalk, learning from the warm sun, and from all around. And the daisy was very glad that everything it silently felt was sung so loudly and charmingly by the lark(百灵). And the daisy looked up with respect to the happy bird who could sing and fly; but it was not at all sad because it could not fly and sing. “I can see and hear,” it thought: “the sun shines on me, and the wind kisses me. Oh, how richly have I been gifted!”
Within the palings(栅栏) stood many aristocratic(名贵的)flowers—the less nice smell they had the more they showed off. The peonies(牡丹) blew themselves out to be greater than the roses, but size won’t help; the tulips(郁金香)had beautiful colors and held themselves straight upright, so they might be seen more clearly. They did not notice the little daisy outside there, but the daisy looked at them more, and thought, “How rich and beautiful they are! Yes, the pretty bird will certainly fly down to them. I am glad that I stand so near them, so I can enjoy the sight of their beauty!” And just as she thought that, down came flying the lark, but not down to the peonies and tulips—no, down into the grass to the lowly daisy, which started so with joy that it did not know what to think.
The little bird danced around it, and sang, “Oh, how soft the grass is! And see what a lovely little flower, with gold in its heart and silver on its dress!”...

D.The tulips had many colorful flowers and stood straight to win more praise.
43.What do you think may happen next after you read the excerpt(节选) ?

(2022·江苏泰州·泰州市海军中学校考二模)What keeps us healthy and happy as we go through life? What if we could study people from the time that they were teenagers all the way into old age to find the answer?
The Harvard Study of Adult Development may be the longest study of adult life that has ever been done. Since 1938, we’ve tracked the lives of 724 men, year after year, asking about their work, home lives, health, and other aspects (方面). With good luck and the hard work of several generations of researchers, this study has survived. About 60 of our original 724 men are still alive, still taking part in the study.
The clearest message that we get from this study is: Good relationships keep us happier and healthier. Over these years, our study has shown that the people who fared(成功) the best were the people who leaned into relationships, with family, with friends, with community.
We’ve learned three big lessons about relationships. First, social connections are really good for us, and loneliness kills. It turns out that people who are more socially connected to others are happier, physically healthier, and live longer than people who are less well connected. Second, the quality of your close relationships matters. Living in the midst of conflict is really bad for our health. Third, good relationships don’t just protect our bodies, but also our brains. When people are in their 80s and in relationships, their memories stay sharper longer. If people in relationships feel they really can’t count on the other one, they experience earlier memory decline (下降).
The answer is clear: The good life is built with good relationships. But it’s not easy to have good relationships. Relationships are messy, complicated (复杂的) and hard work. Building good relationships is also a lifelong task. It never ends.
So why not start working on it right now?
48.What can we learn about the study?
A.It focused on adult development. B.Most of the 724 men were born in the 1930s.
C.It was once stopped due to lack of researchers. D.About 60 researchers have taken part in it.
49.Which of the following does the study NOT teach us?
A.We should have good social connections.
B.Loneliness helps us live longer and more healthily.
C.We should make sure to have good close relationships.
D.Good relationships are good for our brains.
50.What happens to people in relationships if they can’t count on the other person?
A.They won’t remember their early relationships. B.Their memories will stay sharper than others’.
C.They can remember things longer than others. D.Their memory will decline earlier than others’.
51.What does the speaker suggest to us?
A.Staying away from messy relationships. B.Building good relationships with others.
C.Working hard to solve health problems. D.Trying to live a long and happy life.

Chinese mythological creatures (神兽) come into the spotlight, appearing in the Fantastic Beasts movie series.
In the second Fantastic Beasts movie, audiences enjoyed watching the zouwu, a creature from the The Classic of Mountains and Seas. Now, in the latest Fantastic Beasts movie, The Secrets of Dumbledore, it’s the qilin’s time to shine.
The qilin in the wizarding (魔法) world is a very rare creature, only found in East China. Wizards had long respected this creature for its ability to look into a person’s soul (灵魂).
With a head like a dragon and a body like a deer or horse, the qilin is seen as a gentle creature in Chinese culture. It can tell between good and evil and can even bring luck, said China Daily. There are ancient court stories of court trials (法庭审判) based on the qilin’s knowledge of whether a person was good or evil.
In English, the qilin is sometimes called the “Chinese unicorn (独角兽)”. This may be because they are gentle and virtuous (正直的), like unicorns, said the website China Sage. In the West, this mythical horse-like creature has one horn on its head. It is said that a unicorn’s horn or tears can heal (治愈) deadly injuries, noted the website Unicorn Yard.
There are other mythical creatures that crisscross (交错于) cultures, too. In Chinese culture, the phoenix (凤凰) is very important. It represents luck and is the “king of birds”. In the West, it symbolizes immortality (不朽) and rebirth, rising from the ashes (灰烬) of a fire.
Although they look alike, dragons in China and the West are very different beasts. The dragon is a respected creature in China, symbolizing good luck. But in the West, they represent evil, greed (贪婪) and destruction (毁灭), said the website Top China Travel.

(2022·江苏泰州·泰州市海军中学校考二模)People expect living, breathing fish when they visit an aquarium (海洋馆). So, visitors to a Shanghai aquarium were surprised to see a robot shark instead.
CGTN reported that the electric-powered “whale shark” showed up in Shanghai in January.
Developed by Chinese researchers, the 4.7-meter-long “shark” has mechanical fins (机械鳍). It can swim, turn and dive (潜水) like a real shark. It swims as fast as 0.7 meters per second and can go as deep as 10 meters underwater.
Bionic (仿生的) fish like this are not just for pleasing aquarium visitors. They can be used in a wide range of fields. The bionic whale shark, for example, will be equipped with different sensors (传感器) to check water quality (质量) and take photos of underwater animals and plants, CGTN reported.
According to iMedia News, military (军事的) uses are also likely. Bionic fish produce almost no noise. They will not be found by sonar, meaning they can swim around submarines (潜水艇) unnoticed. Compared to anti-submarine aircraft (反潜艇飞机), anti-submarine “fish” are cheaper and can work better.
Along with military and research uses, underwater rescue (救援) and archaeology (考古) can also benefit from bionic fish. Smaller robots can swim in and around sunken ships, sending all kinds of data back to people. With a 3D scanner (扫描仪), people may even make models of sunken ships.
Maybe most exciting, these fish can swim among real fish. With sensors and cameras, we can learn more about fish behavior, such as schooling – how small fish swim together to avoid predators – and breeding (繁衍). If robotic fish are good at mixing in, we may also learn what it’s like to get eaten by sharks!
57.What do we know about the robot shark?
A.It moves just like a real shark. B.It is larger than a real shark.
C.It was made to surprise visitors. D.It swims faster than a real shark.
58.Bionic fish can be used in military areas because ________.
    a. they are cheap and efficient anti-submarine tools.
    b. they make big noises that scare submarines.
    c. submarines can’t easily detect them.
    d. they can avoid submarine attacks.
    A.ab B.ac C.bd D.cd
59.How can bionic fish help with rescues?
A.They can bring things back from sunken ships. B.They can collect data of sunken ships for people.
C.They can locate where the sunken ships are. D.They can make models of a 3D scanner.
60.What does the underlined word “predators” mean in the last paragraph?
    A.捕食者 B.寄生者 C.竞争者 D.追踪者

(2022·江苏扬州·校考二模)In a modern world where time is money, how have our reading habits been influenced? Are we reading more quickly or do we prefer to read short passages? The answer perhaps lies in the kind of text you’re reading.
When we’re reading online, we read quickly to search what we want. Does this mean that as readers we now have far less patience than we used to? Not necessarily. Much of this activity is actually skimming or scanning to check whether something is useful or interesting and whether we want to read on. We’ll slowdown and take a bit longer to properly read the text if the headline catches our eyes.
For those writing for an online environment, this means finding more useful ways of catching the readers’ eyes. For example, putting the key information at the very beginning makes it more likely that the time-poor website visitors will find what they want.
But what about when we’re reading literature(文学), are the rules still the same? The average reader works their way through a piece of an article at no more than about 250-300 words per minute, which is generally a page of text. If you try to read through a novel more quickly, then you start to lose a lot of what makes literature such a pleasure. When we read for pleasure, we are much less focused on picking out useful information or key words. Instead, the language itself is as important as the information mentioned. The longer you spend reading a passage, the more vivid(生动)a picture you create in your mind.
Sometimes an escape(逃离)from the fast-moving Internet Age is just what we need, so maybe it’s time to slow down and lose yourself in a good book.
69.Why do people read quickly online according to the text?
A.Because people are becoming less patient than they used to.
B.Because people think the passages on the Internet are boring.
C.Because they need to save time for printing what they want.
D.Because people want to decide whether to read on quickly.
70.How does the writer organize Paragraph 3?
A.By giving an example. B.By asking questions. C.By listing numbers. D.By showing facts.
71.What would the writer most probably like to do?
A.Draw some pictures on the book. B.Enjoy himself while reading slowly.
C.Write an article of 250-300 words. D.Read through a novel very quickly.
72.Which of the following best shows the structure of the text?(P=Paragraph)
    A. B. C. D.

    (2022·江苏扬州·校考二模)
There are a few different kinds of hockey, including ice hockey and field hockey. One of the biggest differences between the sports is the surface on which they are played. Some suggest that field hockey has been around for thousands of years. There is evidence to support that a similar game was played by ancient people in Greece and Rome.
Ice hockey has been around, officially, since the late 1800s. This is when the rules were made by J.A.Creighton. The first league was in place by the early 1900s. Later, ice hockey became an Olympic sport.
Hockey is a team sport with six players on two opposing teams. The game is played on a rink of ice with two goals at each end. The standard rink size is 200 feet long and 85 feet wide. Players, all wearing ice skates, move a disk called a puck around the ice. Their purpose is to shoot the puck into the other team’s goal. The goal is a net that is six feet wide and four feet tall. Each goal is guarded by a goalie, who is the only one that can touch the puck with his hockey stick as well as any part of his body. Goalies can even use their feet to stop the puck from getting into the net.
A hockey stick is what players use to move the puck. It is usually 5 to 6 feet in length with a flat blade at the end. Hockey sticks are straight sticks made of wood. The puck is made of vulcanized (硫化的) rubber, which is a much better material than the first pucks. It’s said that the first informal hockey games were played with pucks made of frozen cow waste! The modern puck is typically one inch thick and three inches in diameter.
36 Instead, the names of the winning hockey team’s players, coaches, and managers are added to the presentation cup. There are five rings of names. The oldest ring is removed when a new one is added.

(2022·江苏扬州·扬州教育学院附中校考二模)Tomas Ybarra-Frausto grew up outside of San Antonio, on a farm that belonged to his grandfather. His family comes from Mexico so they speak Spanish. And they have tradition. “The umbilical cord (脐带) that was taken away when you were born would be put in a little box. You got to pick where you wanted that to be buried (埋藏) said Ybarra-Frausto. In Mexican culture this tradition means the planting of a child's roots to the land.
At the age of 4, Ybarra-Frausto decided that he wanted to bury it under a tree in the middle of his family’s farm.“The farm was pretty empty, but in the middle stood a beautiful tree. So I pointed to the tree,” said Ybarra-Frausto. His family told him, “This is the place where you’re born, so no matter where you end, this is where you began.”
It wasn’t until primary school that he started to understand what it meant to be Mexican American. On the first day of the first grade, his teacher told the class that because they were all American, they were going to learn English. “But my father says I'm an American, and that’s why I speak Spanish,” he remembered telling his teacher. But she punished him by putting him in a corner of the classroom. His father was proud that his son was learning English, but that didn’t take away from the other language he spoke. His father told him a person who speaks two languages is worth twice the person who speaks only one.
Ybarra-Frausto has lived in New York for nearly twenty years. And even though he was far away from his family in San Antonio, he continued to find solace in his family's tradition and his first language. “Whenever I miss my family members in San Antonio, I will think about the first language I speak and the umbilical cord under the tree because I know that’s where I’m from. I will feel much better.”

(2022·江苏扬州·扬州教育学院附中校考二模)On February 12, 2019, Brendon Fontaine blew out five candles on a birthday cake. "He loved the cake so much," says his mother, Faith, who lives in Winnipeg with Brendon. "I had to hide it in the back of the fridge."
Brendon's surprise came from Cakes for Kids, a group of home bakers(烘焙师)who know that a simple birthday cake can be uncommon for poor families like the Fontaines.
The group was set up three years ago by Christy Rogowski, a 40-year-old who works in health care software, and her partner, Wendy Singleton. "Imagining a child who wasn't going to have a birthday cake was really upsetting," Rogowski says.
A Facebook call-out for volunteers finally added 150 bakers to their name list. When volunteers first apply(申请), they're asked why they want to do so. "Some people have said that they didn't have a cake on their birthday growing up, and they know how important it is," says Singleton. More commonly, though, they say they want families in need to know that their neighbors care about them.
The names of the cake receivers are provided by community organizations and Winnipeg Child and Family Services. A child might receive a cake because the family is poor. Sometimes a child is sick, leaving the family too busy to make the treat themselves. Cakes also go to children living in foster care(寄养). Jodi Korolyk, a worker with Winnipeg Child and Family Services, has so far ordered birthday cakes for five of the almost 800 kids in their system. "It shows the child they have a lot of people there to support them," she says.
By the end of last year, Cakes for Kids had baked over 575 cakes to mark kids' birthdays, and the baking continues. Rogowski and Singleton are even considering developing the program nationally and also providing cakes for old people who live alone. After all, there's no age difference when it comes to the positive role of a well-timed cake.

(2022·江苏扬州·扬州教育学院附中校考二模)Would it surprise you to learn that, like animals, trees communicate with each other and pass on their wealth to the next generation?
UBC Professor Simard explains how trees are much more complex than most of us ever imagined.
Although Charles Darwin thought that trees are competing for survival of the fittest, Simard shows just how wrong he was. In fact, the opposite is true: trees survive through their co-operation and support, passing around necessary nutrition “depending on who needs it”.
Nitrogen (氮) and carbon are shared through miles of underground fungi (真菌) networks, making sure that all trees in the forest ecological system give and receive just the right amount to keep them all healthy. This hidden system works in a very similar way to the networks of neurons (神经元) in our brains, and when one tree is destroyed, it influences all.
Simard talks about “mother trees”, usually the largest and oldest plants on which all other trees depend. She explains how dying trees pass on the wealth to the next generation, transporting important minerals to young trees so they may continue to grow. When humans cut down “mother trees” with no awareness of these highly complex “tree societies” or the networks on which they feed, we are reducing the chances of survival for the whole forest.
“We didn’t take any notice of it,” Simard says sadly. “Dying trees move nutrition into the young trees before dying, but we never give them chance.” If we could put across the message to the forestry industry, we could make a huge difference towards our environmental protection efforts for the future.
88.The underlined sentence “the opposite is true” in Paragraph 3 probably means that trees ________.
A.depend on each other B.protect their own wealth
C.compete for survival D.provide support for dying trees
89.“Mother trees” are very important because they________.
A.know more about the complex “tree societies”
B.seem more likely to be cut down by humans
C.look the largest in size in the forest
D.pass on nutrition to young trees
90.The underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refers to ________.
A.how young trees survive B.how “tree societies” work
C.how forestry industry develops D.how trees grow old
91.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.Old Trees Communicate Like Humans B.Young Trees Are in Need of Protection
C.Trees Are More Fantastic Than You Think D.Trees Contribute to Our Society

(2022·江苏宿迁·统考二模)Solar terms, also called Jieqi in Chinese, are days marking one of the 24 time buckets of the solar year in traditional Chinese calendar and were used to indicate the alternation (交替) of seasons and climate changes in ancient China.
The opening day of the 2022 Winter Olympics meets with the “Beginning of Spring”, which is the first of the 24 solar terms of the year. Let’s learn something about other solar terms.

The Spring Equinox is the fourth term of the year. It is a good time to fly kites. In ancient times, people did not have good medical resources. It is said that it brings good luck and diseases can be chased away by doing this.

Grain Rain is the last term in spring. This period of rainfall is very important for the growth of crops. There is an old custom in southern China that people drink tea on the day of Grain Rain. Spring tea during Grain Rain is rich in vitamins and amino acids (氨基酸), which can help to remove heat from the body and is good for the eyes. It is also said that drinking tea on this day would prevent bad luck.

Start of Summer is the 7th term of the year. The temperature will rise quickly during this period. In ancient China, people believed a round egg represented a happy life, and eating eggs on the day of Start of Summer was a hope for good health. (2022·江苏宿迁·统考二模)Sometimes we all have this problem: We know the face, but why not the name?
When you meet someone, you may be focused on impressing the person with your skill and professional knowledge rather than learning more about them. You introduce yourselves and shake hands. But when you meet the person again at the event, why do you draw a blank?
“One of the biggest problems is that people don’t really hear the name,” says Kevin Horsley, a master of memory and writer of Unlimited Memory. “They’re not really concentrating (集中注意力) because they’re trying to be interesting instead of trying to be interested.” The bottom line: Thinking of a name is difficult when you haven’t taken the time to listen to it.
When you study a new subject at school or prepare for a presentation at work, it takes time to learn the material. You study and review the subject matter before a test or a meeting with a client (客户). It is the same as meeting someone once and expecting their name to appear in your mind. Horsley describes this as the “tip-of-the-tongue phenomenon (舌尖现象)”. You can’t remember the name because you never learned it properly.
There are ways to improve your recall ability.
It is easier to find something you have forgotten from your mind a short time before. Horsley recommends going back to someone shortly after your first meet. While at a party, you could say, “Hi, Jill.” Then two minutes later say, “I’m sorry, you said Jill?” This process is a predictor (预示) of whether or not you’ll know the name later.
More importantly, consider changing your mind. As with any skill, if you think you are unable to master it, you may not make an effort to improve. “There’s not such thing as a good or bad memory for names,” says Horsley. “There’s only a good or bad method.”
98.What do you pay more attention to when you meet someone for the first time?
    A.Your own abilities. B.Others’ names. C.Others’ appearances. D.Your clothes.

(2021·江苏徐州·校考二模)Have you ever noticed that we only see certain animals in certain seasons? Many animals move from one area to another at different times during the years. This movement is called migration.
Animals migrate for different reasons. Some, like the manatee and the Ruby-Throated Humming bird, migrate to stay warm in winter
Some animals migrate for food, water and protection. Caribous move south each winter to forests. The forests protect them from the cold winters and offer a better food supply.
Other animals, like the Emperor Penguin, migrate for their children. These penguins choose the coldest time of year and the coldest place on the planet—Antarctica, to raise their young. They migrate inland, away from the sea, so they are far away from predators when their eggs hatch.
These journeys are often thousands of miles. It’s amazing that so many animals are able to find their way back to the very same places in the world year after year.
Loggerhead Turtles travel thousands of miles to lay their eggs on the very same beach where they were hatched themselves. California Gray Whales have the longest migration journey of any mammal. They travel 10,000-14,000 miles round trip each year.

(2021·江苏徐州·校考二模)I have tried to write a ghost story that won’t make you unhappy with yourselves, with each other, with the seasons, or with me. I hope it haunts your houses pleasantly.
    ——Charles Dickens
One Christmas Eve, old Scrooge and Bob were working busily in his office. It was a cold, foggy day. The fog was so thick that the houses opposite were like ghosts. It was only three o’clock in the afternoon, but it was already quite dark.
“Merry Christmas, Uncle! God bless you!” cried a happy voice. It was Scrooge’s nephew.
    “Bah!” said Scrooge “Humbug(骗人的话)!”
“Christmas is a humbug! Surely you don’t mean that, Uncle.” Said his nephew.
“I do,” said Scrooge. “Merry Christmas! What reason have you got to be merry? You’re poor.”
“OK, then,” replied the nephew cheerfully. “What reason have you got to be sad? You are rich. Don’t be angry, Uncle!”said his nephew.
“What else can I be?” answered the uncle, “I live in a world of fools! Merry Christmas! What’s Christmas time to you? It’s a time for paying bills without money. It’s a time for finding yourself a year older, but not richer. Everyone who goes around saying ‘Merry Christmas’ should have his tongue cut out. Yes, he should!”
“Uncle! Please don’t say that!” said the nephew. “I’ve always thought of Christmas time as a good time, a kind, and a charitable, happy time. And so, Uncle, Christmas has never put any gold or silver in my pocket, but I think it has done me good. And it will do me good. And I say, ‘God bless it!’”
Bob, standing in the corner of the room, applauded (鼓掌). He realized his mistake very soon, and went quickly back to his work, but Scrooge had heard him.

“Don’t be angry with him, Uncle. Come and have dinner with us tomorrow.”
    “No.” said Scrooge.
“I’m sorry you don’t want to celebrate Christmas. But I do. So a Merry Christmas, Uncle!”
    “Good afternoon!” said Scrooge.
