Ann and her mother had lived in a small house as long as Ann could remember. Christmas was so close. Ann wished she could get a beautiful dress. But she knew how hard her mom worked. Maybe she could make a wish—Santa Clause would come...
Her classmates were talking about Christmas gifts.
“My aunt is going to give me a pretty branded doll again,” said Rita.
“I have told my parents about that expensive watch. They will buy it for me,” Tessi said.
Ann felt left out in those conversations. She had neither rich parents nor rich relatives to give her expensive gifts.
It was not just the gift that worried Ann. Her mother was working overtime and looked weak these days.
These days passed and soon it was Christmas Eve. Ann went to bed with a heavy heart. Ring…Ring…Ann jumped, hearing the alarm. Without much hope, she wondered if there were any gifts for her. She found a beautiful packet! There was a beautiful white dress and a short note inside. Ann read the note:
Dear Ann,
This dress is a gift for you for being a good girl.
Your loving friend,
Santa Clause
Ann looked into the note carefully. Then she realized that the handwriting was the same as her mother’s. Her mother had worked overtime to save money to buy this wonderful gift for her!
61.Ann and her mother lived a good life, and they cared about each other a lot.
62.Ann was still looking forward to getting a Christmas present though she thought it would be impossible.
63.Ann felt left out when hearing her classmates’ conversations.

Many new kinds of stationery are invented these years. And they already entered the daily life of students. Have you ever bought such products? Do you think such “high-tech” stationery(文具)is helpful? Here are some different opinions.
Dong
I have many products of such stationery. I bought them not only for their looks but also for their usefulness. Actually, with the “high-tech” products, life becomes much more convenient. For example, by using the electric pencil sharpener, you won’t get your hands dirty or waste time cleaning your desk. What a great helper!
Zhong
Such stationery is handy and convenient. They are useful. For example, they save time. It takes only 5 to 10 seconds(秒)to clean your desk with an electric cleaner but will take about 20 seconds by hand. You may think a few seconds doesn’t matter. But after 100 times of doing it, it will be a lot of time. So be open-minded and try new things.
Qiu
I don’t buy such “high-tech” stationery. Stationery is study tools that should be useful, not for playing with. They can easily distract students in class. Students might spend a longer time on simple things. And, high-tech stationery is usually expensive. My stationery is normal and completely enough for daily use.
Wang
I don’t think such stationery is necessary. I find that some of my classmates are just busy playing with them and showing off in front of others. They may have forgotten that the stationery should actually be used to help make their study life easier, but not make them ignore(忽略)what they are learning.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. Let’s be honest: It isn’t easy to keep a physically active lifestyle. ____101____ Let’s take a deep breath, open these new guidelines and talk about strategies.
The guidelines suggest that adults do at least 150 minutes per week of physical activity with an intensity (强度) that increases the heart rate. School-aged children and teenagers should be active for 180 minutes per week. ____102____
The good news is that the guidelines now recognize that we don’t need to spend lots of time exercising to keep healthy. The guidelines don’t require that physical activity takes place in periods of 10 continuous minutes or more to be effective (有效的). All activity counts. ____103____
The new guidelines also stress a “move more, sit less” message to encourage everyone to do just a little more physical activity. Every little bit is good for health, so if reaching the guidelines seems hard, that’s OK. ____104____ Improvement counts as success whether you meet the guidelines or not.
____105____ For example you get about 30 minutes of exercise per week. Could you increase it to 35 minutes per week for the next three weeks? Once you’ve spent 35 minutes for several weeks, increase it to 40 minutes. The idea is that you’re building yourself up slowly, getting used to each step before moving on to the next. Each step also improves your physical condition, so that the next step won’t feel much more difficult than the one before.
A.Exercise has many advantages.
B.The first goal you set should be pretty easy.
C.Just try to do a bit more than you did yesterday.

Some people understand loneliness as someone (usually an old person) sits alone, looking out of a window. However researchers have actually found that those who report experiencing loneliness the most are young people, and they understand loneliness differently. Their loneliness mainly come from the relationship with people around them.
For young people, loneliness is “as a bad feeling about a difference between the relationships they have and those they want.” It appears in three ways. Firstly, they might feel lonely when being with people who don’t really understand them or share common interests with them. Another reason is their developing sense of self-discovering who they are. The challenge is that their friends are going through the same process, but might not follow the same direction as them. So they feel lonely. The last one is that young people often report feeling lonely at school, while home is a comfortable space. But when there are difficulties at home—such as arguments with family members, they get the feeling of loneliness again and even worse.
Here are some ways to beat loneliness.1. Join a class or club Whether it’s an art class, exercise class, or a book club, joining a class or club brings you to a group of people who share at least one of your interests.
2. Keep in contact online If your friends or family live far away or you can’t go out to meet them, programmes such as WeChat can help you to keep in touch.
3. Volunteer in your free time It can offer us a great chance to get out of the house, meet new people and feel happy.
If you find yourself feeling lonely and it seems like nothing is helping, do not give up hope. Although loneliness is often a difficult experience, it can help us to reconnect and to rethink our relationships, as a result, we can build better ones.

【原文】The English tradition of taking afternoon tea was started by Ann, the 7th Duchess of Bedford in the 1840s. In the nineteenth century, people in the UK did not sit down to have dinner until 8 or 9 o’clock in the evening, and the duchess often became hungry around 4:00 p.m. So she decided to start having a little food at that time to stop her feeling of hunger. Soon many of her friends began to join her, and the habit of taking afternoon tea in the UK began. Many rich women would meet each day in the late afternoon and sit down to enjoy small cakes and sandwiches with tea. Today, afternoon tea is still popular with many tourists visiting hotels in the UK.
