Teaching objectives:
- Students can be able to stimulate interest in English learning by activities, activate existing knowledge and arouse their interest of the topic “stage and screen”.
- Students will be able to learn about common Chinese and foreign recreational activities and discuss what they are interested in and why they enjoy them.
- Students can be able to stimulate interest in English learning by understanding Chinese and foreign cultural activities, obtain English learning resources through multiple channels, select appropriate strategies and methods to monitor, evaluate, reflect and adjust their learning content.
Evaluation objectives:
- Enable students to master the expressions of describing various types of entertainment.
- Enable students to express their own opinions based on the content of the text and the reality of life.
Teaching key and difficult points:
- Enable students to be interested in the topic“stage and screen”.
- Enable students to master the English expressions of different art forms.
Teaching difficult points:
- Students can describe their favourite art forms and tell the reasons.
- Students can compare the similarities and differences between Chinese and foreign theatres.

Teaching procedures;
Step1: Lead-in
The teacher asks students“What will you think of when we refer to stage and screen?”
Students share their own ideas and the teacher shows two posters of concert and Chinese crosstalk. They are different types of entertainment.

Activity1
Show six pictures of different types of entertainment and ask students two questions:
- Which type of entertainment is each picture?
- Which of these types of entertainment are you most familiar with?

Then ask students to have a brainstorm according to the two questions:
- What other types of entertainment have you seen?
- Which do you like most? Why?

The teacher asks students to watch a video and answer the questions.
- What theatres are mentioned in the video?
- What are the differences between them?
- In what ways are they similar?
Suggested answers:
- The Deheyuan Grand Theatre and the Globe theatre.
- Differences:The Deheyuan Grand Theatre is a Chinese-style theatre built in the Qing Dynasty for the royal family, with Peking Opera as the main performance form.The theatre has three stages representing happiness, prosperity and longevity.Under the longevity stage, there is a well and five ponds. The first Globe Theatre was built in London by a group of actors including William Shakespeare. It was burnt down in1613 and was rebuilt close to the site of the original building. The theatre has a round shape and the stage area has three main elements.
- Similarities:Both of the theatres have a long history. They are both specially designed for better stage effects.
