According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China’s digital economy
has increased by 15.9 percent annually since 2012, reaching 45.5 trillion yuan ($6.32 trillion) last year. Facing the growing digital economy and new vacancies(空缺) developed in the sector such
as deliverymen and livestreaming anchors(主播), young people, especially those born after 2000,
are expressing a stronger willingness for flexible work relations with companies, and also wish to become “digital workers” with flexible work locations and schedules.
“The Internet helps me a lot. I check emails from my clients and submit my proposals through
WeChat, then we discuss plans via teleconference. I love working from home actually,” said Mi Lu, a 28-year-old new media operator in Beijing. “We work everywhere, perhaps in a cafe, or on a bullet train or even on the table of a restaurant.”
To meet young people’s work preferences, more companies have begun to include “flexible
working mode” in their recruitment advertisements. Zhaopin, a website, said vacancies with flexible work available make up 15 to 20 percent of total vacancies on its platform, especially for industries in the growing gig economy, such as transportation and logistics. According to Zhaopin, the proportion of flexible vacancies in these industries has increased to 25 percent this year, up from 10 percent in 2018.
However, the flexibility may bring risks to workers’ rights protection, according to Zhaopin. It
said that though roughly 60 percent of companies posting vacancies on its platform offer insurance, the proportion is decreasing.
Li Qiang, vice-president of Zhaopin, said that the greatest risk to those seeking flexible work
is whether the company pays the salary fully and on time. “It’s necessary for job seekers to set up a long-term development plan, rather than be shortsighted.” Meanwhile, he added that companies may bear risks that flexible employees can’t deliver high-quality work in a limited time period, which requires the companies to establish a sound work delivery standard to help evaluate employee performance.
24.What factor contributes to flexible work?
A.The desire for more free time. B.The booming digital economy.
C.The disappearance of some positions. D.The improvement of working conditions.
25.How do companies react to young people’s work preference?
A.They follow the old working mode. B.They provide positions accordingly.
C.They reduce working opportunities. D.They overlook the youth’s requests.
26.What suggestions did Li Qiang give?
    A.The companies pay higher salary.
B.The job seekers make a detailed plan.
    C.The companies make reasonable rules.
D.The job seekers apply for positions on time.
27.What is the best title for the text?
    A.A new internet-related working model.
    B. Companies well prepared for new risks.
C.Job seekers more keen on flexible work.
    D.The rapidly developing digital economy.

    C
While Ellard Hunting and fellow researchers were out studying the weather at a field station in England, they noticed something unexpected on their instruments. Though there was no storm approaching, the scientists’ electric field monitors recorded a strange increase in atmospheric electric charge (大气电荷).
Nearby, honeybees that lived in on-site hives were swarming (蜂拥) as they attempted to find
a new home. When the team took a closer look at their data, they discovered that the swarming honeybees had created an atmospheric electric charge. The researchers shared more details about their findings in the journal Science.
“This is the first report of biology as a source of space charge.” says Hunting, a biophysicist at
the University of Bristol in England. Scientists had known that individual bees carry a small charge while flying through the air, caused by the friction of their body parts against the air and each other. It’s similar to how rubbing a balloon on a piece of cloth creates static electricity.
Scientists believe a bee’s charge helps pollen (花粉) stick to it and signals to other bees which
flowers have already been visited. But until now, researchers had never recorded such a high voltage (电压) among swarming honeybees.
In terms of electricity generation, a bee swarm’s charge isn’t so impressive: It would take about 50 billion bees to power an LED light. But compared to the charges produced by common weather events, the bees’ charge density was six times greater than an electrified dust storm and eight times greater than a thunderstorm cloud.
Using the honeybee data, the researchers created a model to predict the potential atmospheric
electric charge of other insects, including locusts (蝗虫), moths and butterflies. “Locusts swarm on
biblical scales.” says Liam O’Reilly, a co-author and biologist at the University of Bristol. Clouds of these insects can expand up to 1,200 square kilometres and contain roughly 30 million locusts per square kilometer. The researchers predict locusts would have a much bigger influence on the atmosphere compared to honeybees.
Scientists hope to continue exploring how biology influences physics and are curious to know
if something similar is happening with other wildlife, such as birds and bats.
28.What were the researchers doing when something unexpected on their instruments happened?
A.Studying weather events. B.Testing their instruments.
C.Recording insects’ behavior. D.Looking for honeybees’ new home.
    29.What’s the function of a bee’s charge?
A.To signal to other bees. B.To help the bee fly fast.
C.To find pollen more easily. D.To avoid losing their way.
30.What does the underlined word “biblical” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
    A.Limited. B.Full. C.Large. D.Slight.
31.What will the scientists continue to study next?
    A.The wide application of biology.
B.Measures to protect birds and bats.
C.The influences of dust storms on wildlife.
D.Whether other wildlife can produce electric charge.
    D
A small device no bigger than a toaster has generated oxygen on the surface of Mars, bringing the chances of surviving on the red planet a step closer.
The Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment, better known as Moxie, has been
generating oxygen from the atmosphere on Mars, as part of NASA’s Perseverance rover mission.
Moxie produced breathable oxygen in seven hour-long tests conducted in various weather and atmosphere conditions since landing. During each test, the device produced six grams of oxygen, about the same as a small tree and enough to sustain an astronaut for 15 minutes. It’s also found that even in extreme temperatures and after a Martian dust storm, Moxie continued to produce high-purity oxygen.
“This is the first example of actually using resources on the surface of another planet and
transforming them chemically into something that would be useful for a human mission,” said Jeff Hoffinan, a retired astronaut and professor at MIT.
NASA and the MIT team are planning to build a bigger version of Moxie, as they hope
advanced models will produce enough oxygen to support a crewed mission to Mars. “We have to
bring a lot of stuff from Earth to support a human mission, but oxygen is a big problem. If you can make it there, go for it and you’re way ahead of the game,” Hoffinan said.
The device uses pumps that absorb in carbon dioxide which is heated to 800 ℃ and processed
to separate the carbon and oxygen. Carbon monoxide is emitted as waste while the pure oxygen is left behind.
Expanding the device to support a human mission to Mars presents challenges. It is needed to
run continuously for 400 days, a leap from the one-hour tests and its inner temperature should be controlled stably. Moxie has proved to endure the extreme conditions on Mars, however, and the team plans to test the machine’s limits in the coming months when atmosphere is thick and carbon dioxide levels are high. They say they just want to set everything as high as they dare and make as much oxygen as they can.
32.What can we learn about Moxie?
A.It worked well in a series of tests.
B.It aims to purify breathable oxygen.
C.It is stopped by extreme conditions.
D.It produces oxygen enough for a team.
33.Why does the author quote Hoffinan’s words in Paragraph 5?
A.To present a plan to further explore Mars
B.To demonstrate Nasa’s ambition to win the game
C.To show the plentiful and useful resources on Mars
D.To highlight the significance of making oxygen on Mars
34.Which of the following best describes the team according to the last paragraph?
A.Cautious and ambitious. B.Confident and intelligent.
C.Practical and independent. D.Courageous and imaginative.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.A Nasa Mars rover landed successfully.
B.Challenges for a human mission to Mars.
C.Human survives with oxygen made on Mars.
D.A little oxygen on Mars, a great step forward.

The social media platform Instagram once made headlines for limiting “likes” in an effort to reduce the comparisons and hurt feelings resulting from attaching popularity to sharing content.
    36
A psychologist, Jacqueline Sperling, who works with youth who experience anxiety disorders
says, “ 37 But even if you remove the likes, there continue to be opportunities for
comparisons and feedback. People still can compare themselves to others, and people still can post comments.”
Social platforms are designed to be addictive and are related to anxiety, depression, and even
physical illness. According to the Pew Research Centre, 69% of adults and 81% of teens in the U.
    S. use social media. 38 But what makes users come back for more even when it can
    literally make them feel sick?
“Think of a slot machine (老虎机): if game players knew they were never going to get money
by playing the game, then they never would play. The idea of a potential future reward keeps the
machines in use. 39 ” Says Sperling. To boost self-esteem and feel a sense of belonging
in their social circles, people post content with the hope of receiving positive feedback.
40 Teenagers hope to keep track of friends’ activities. If everyone else is using
social media sites, and if you don’t join in, there is concern that you’ll miss chats, jokes, connections, or invitations, which can make them anxious and depressed. When people look online and see they’re excluded from an activity, it can affect thoughts and feelings, and can affect them physically.
A.The same goes for social media sites.
B.It’s just a small step in the right direction.
C.Fear of missing out also impacts the youth greatly.
D.But does the effort battle against mental health issues?
E.Missing experiences can create anxiety and depression.
