阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

Switzerland, as the first place in Europe to develop winter tourism, has a long skiing tradition. A long ski season, terrific snow conditions, and large, well-developed resort areas make Switzerland a perfect destination for skiers from around the world.
Where to Ski as a Beginner
Saas-Fee: You can find plenty of English-speaking ski schools in Saas-Fee and lots of bunny slopes (初学者滑雪道) on which to master your turns. The beginner ski area is separate, so you can practice without getting in the way of other skiers.
Grindelwald: Grindelwald is a great choice for families, with plenty of ski schools and several bunny slopes, such as the Bodmi practice arca, which is fit for children. Once you’re ready to head up the mountain, about 30 percent of Grindelwald’s runs are rated blue, meaning they’re on the easier side.
Summer Skiing
Incredible as it may seem, it’s actually possible to ski in Switzerland during the summer months thanks to the presence of several glaciers where it’s winter year-round. Zermatt is home to the Theodul glacier (冰川). With 13 miles (21 kilometers) of runs, it’s the largest summer ski area in Europe and attracts professional skiers looking to train year-round. The glacier slopes here are beautifully scenic and offer skiers up-close views of the Matterhorn.
Budget Travel Tips
Avoid peak season: Visit during the start or end of the ski season.
Self-cater: If you rent a small apartment or home with kitchen facilities, you can prepare some of your own meals to save dining expenses.
Enjoy the snow without skiing every day: Ice skating, tobogganing (乘坐平底雪橇), winter hiking, or just having a snowball fight are all more affordable ways to enjoy the Swiss winter landscape.
21. What makes Switzerland a perfect destination for skiers?
A. Being the first winter tourist destination. B. Having the longest skiing tradition.
C. The support of skiers from the world. D. Superb natural conditions and accommodations.
22. Which group will be interested in Grindelwald?
A. Professional athletes. B. Summer skiers.
C. Family tourists. D. Budget travelers.
23. Where will skiers go for summer skiing?
A. Saas-Fee. B. Bodmi. C. Zermatt. D. Matterhorn.

It is often said that high school is one of the most important stages as an individual will experience, and is often seen as a critical and life-shaping time. During this period, people often begin to discover what is meaningfulto them and how they plan to continue living their life. Volunteering at St. Clare’s Hospital has helped me form this positive experience during my high school years.
When I first began volunteering. I was very nervous about meeting new people and being pushed outside of my comfort zone. The beginning of my volunteer experience I was rather timid and not very outgoing. Fortunately, as time went by, I discovered how to introduce myself to new volunteers, to go out of my way to make patients feel welcome, and to extend the hand of friendship to others. I have learned to respect diversity, which turns out to be particularly helpful in the real world.
My volunteering experience at the hospital has led me to believe that my love and sympathy for the sick can brighten up the day of those lonely patients. There is another valuable lesson I have learned from the volunteer program: The significance of “service” involves making a difference in the lives of others and contributing to the community. Now I feel content each time I finish my shift. This positive feeling has motivated me to continue carrying on this worthwhile cause, and has become something that I view as having irreplaceable importance to my life.
It’s a great pity that many teenagers in my generation have not had experiences similar to my own and therefore missed out on some of the important lessons that can be learned in life. Knowing that I made a positive impact on someone is an emotionally uplifting experience that can never be matched by money or fame. And, to the best of my ability, I will follow this path of service throughout my life.
24. What does the author say about high school?
A. It deserves to be taken seriously. B. It is often criticized by people.
C. It brings no significance to life. D. It is full of unplanned experiences.
25. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?

C. Friendship between volunteers and patients. D. Ways to help and respect patients.
26. What does the underlined word “timid” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Confident. B. Shy. C. Brave. D. Calm.
27. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To call on the young to volunteer. B. To share his volunteer experiences.
C. To explain the benefits of volunteering. D. To introduce suitable community work.
C
There is a profound relationship between science fiction and science. It is often said that stories change the world, what is less often heard is that stories change science, and therefore the future.
The use of science fiction to explore our world is similar to scenario (剧情) planning in Futures Studies, which shapes our ideas about the future, and goes beyond predicting artifacts that once seemed impossible to us like Verne’s submarine or the satellites of 2001 Space Odyssey.
In the words of Dutch researcher Sofia Kaloterakis, “Science fiction narratives structure our imaginative models about technoscientific projects such as robotics or space exploration”. Have you ever wondered how science fiction novels have impacted the idea we have about Artificial Intelligence or how Snow Crash, Neal Stephenson’s novel, has impacted what we now call the Metaverse (元宇宙)?
Science fiction helps us define possible futures. It provides us with an understanding of the rules underlying fictional worlds. It also allows us to put technological prototypes (原型) in the context of their use by humans. But most importantly, it determines the way we structure scientific thought and intervene (干预) in the future.
Alex McDowell, Creator of the Minority Report worldbuilding in 2002,and Peter von Stackelberg explain what fictional narratives can bring to the table:
The richness of “storyworlds” — the “universes” within which stories take place — provides us with detailed rules of the context in which a larger reality unfolds that extends beyond a single story, and has the potential to provide us with deeper learning about the underlying systems that regulate those worlds.
Lastly, the relationship of futures narratives to theories such as Social Constructivism has been highlighted by several scholars. A central idea of this sociological theory is that whenever we use words or other symbols to refer to objects in our world we are constructing them. And, therefore, prediction is also a social construction. In narrating we intervene in the world. In narrating the world, we construct it. In writing science fiction we intervene in the science of the future.
28. What is the text mainly about?
A. The storyworlds created by science fictions.
B. Artifacts and technologies in science fictions.
C. Science fiction narratives affecting future studies.
D. The relation between science and science fictions.
29. What is the most important role of science fiction?
A. It provides us with technologies and tools.
B. It allows us to establish reasonable future.
C. It decides our thinking and affects the future.
D. It helps us learn the rules of fictional world.
30. What do we know about “storyworlds”?
A. There are general rules for a single story.
B. They are the “universes” where stories happen.
C. There are no regulations or guiding systems.
D. They have a potential context within a story.
31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Science fiction narratives can construct future worlds.
B. The science of future intervenes in today’s science.
C. Objects can’t be constructed by words or symbols.
D. Scholars care little about narratives about future.
D
Gleaning (拾穗,拾遗) is not a new concept. It dates back to ancient times, when farmers would leave the edges of their fields unharvested or leave produce looking imperfect for the poor which was either to rot in the field, or was rolled over.
Gleaning offers fresh, healthy food to food insecure people. That is where gleaners come in. Gleaning addresses farm waste and food poverty by providing free healthy food donated straight from farm to table. Interest in gleaning is growing; in 2017,there were five gleaning groups in the UK, while today there are 25.
Holly Whitelaw, an organizer for the Cornwall Gleaning Network, reported to Positive. News that her volunteers send around 300 boxes a week to food banks and community kitchens in her area. The boxes come complete with recipe (食谱) ideas and the kitchens love the fact that this fresh food is so highly nutritious.
Gleaners find the work very fulfilling. “It’s a really jolly atmosphere,” Whitelaw told Positive. News.”Any time I go gleaning, I am lifted up. For the volunteers, it’s so good for mental health, getting outside and doing something practical that’s good for the needy people.”
Adding technology to this age-old practice, a digital map of the 734 fruit trees available for gleaning was provided. This produce is going to the Orcas Island Food Bank which has witnessed a 227 percent increase in demand since the pandemic (疫情), with numbers still on the rise.
To assist the increasing amount of hungry people, produce is being rescued from fields around the world. A prime example of a successful organization is Leket Israel. In 2021, Leket rescued 40,758,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables from farmers’ fields and packing houses.
Hopes are that awareness will continue to grow. To make this happen, more unions need to be established with farmers and more people need to volunteer their time to help. This form of helping may soon become as commonplace as local charity walks, predicts Positive. News.
32. How does the author introduce the topic?
A. By telling a story. B. By giving a definition.
C. By raising a question. D. By making a comparison.
33. What can we infer from what Holly Whitelaw said?
A. The highly nutritious food is good for mental health.
B. He fulfilled his dream of building a gleaning network.
C. New recipes create a happy atmosphere in the kitchen.
D. Gleaning offers benefits to both givers and receivers.
34. Why are the examples of Orcas Island Food Bank and Leket Israel mentioned?
A. To show the growing success of gleaning. B. To praise the help of a new technology.
C. To stress the problem of food wasting. D. To tell the number of hungry people.
35. What is the author’s attitude towards food gleaning?
A. Optimistic. B. Doubtful. C. Negative. D. Unclear.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Do you know that you can instantly change your state of mind just by smiling? Science has shown that when we produce a smile, our brain releases feel-good hormones (荷尔蒙) that reduce stress. You’ve already experienced the effects of smiling and laughing with friends and family-it’s an instant, free and joyful action. 36
In a study, scientists Tara Kraft and Sarah Pressman studied 170 participants who were taught to hold chopsticks in their mouths in three different ways, making them smile to various degrees, while performing a stressful task. The experiment revealed that subjects whose facial muscles were forced into the biggest smiles, due to the chopsticks, experienced a substantial reduction in their heart rate along with quicker stress recovery.
Have you ever smiled at someone and not received a smile back? It may have happened a handful of times, but it’s usually the exception, not the rule. 37
If you were waiting in line for a coffee and you could choose between a smiling server and one with a neutral expression on their face, who would you pick to take your order? 38 For me, compared to someone who is displaying a neutral or bad expression, a smiling person is going to seem more trustworthy.
39 My sincere intention is to give you a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection, and access to simple tools to make a positive change in your life.
Whenever you find yourself in a stressful situation, be sure to smile. 40
A. Most of us would feel drawn to the smiling server.
B. However, there is always someone who will break the rule.
C. Most people can’t help smiling back at you, even if it’s just to be polite.
D. The real message of this article is that you have the power to change your state of mind.
E. As Victor Hugo once said, “Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face. ”
F. It won’t instantly change your situation, but it absolutely will change how you feel about it.
G. Once you discover the science of how smiling improves your mood, you’ ll be smiling all the time.

The only life that Jeffrey had ever known was on the streets. Since his childhood, Jeffrey has been homeless. His mother, Rebecca, was abandoned by her husband, and they were forced to live in the streets without a way to cover living expenses and rent.
Soon afterward, his mom fell ill and passed away. As much as he tried, Jeffrey couldn’t find a permanent job. Jeffrey only had a few clothes, blankets, and shoes, which he would push around in a rusty (生锈的) trolley. With no family or friends, he relied on his local shelter and soup kitchen. He would often ask the workers at a local burger place for their leftovers to survive.
One day, as Jeffrey was looking through the trash can outside the burger shop, he noticed a black object near the surface. He picked it up and realized it was a wallet. When he looked inside, he could recognize the I.D. picture.
The wallet belonged to Alan, a small business owner who stayed a few blocks away. He remembered asking Alan for money a few weeks ago and saying no. Alan said that he was seriously ill and saved every penny for his treatment to get better.
Alan’s cards, driver’s license, and cash were still inside the wallet, meaning he’d lost it by mistake. There was also a check for $3000 inside the wallet. “This is life-changing money. I could get some fresh clothes, maybe rent a small apartment and finally get a job,” Jeffrey mumbled to himself.
Jeffrey knew he couldn’t live with the guilt of knowing a man would suffer if he took the money for himself. Even though he initially felt that the check may have been a gift from God, he quickly realized that it was more of a test.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150 左右:
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Jeffrey walked a few blocks to Alan’s office.

Jeffrey walked a few blocks to Alan’s offices. Alan seemed surprised by the visit. “Hey, Alan. I’m not here to ask for any money. You dropped your wallet in the trashcan.” As Jeffrey presented the wallet to Alan, he grabbed it and began weeping. “You’re a lifesaver, Jeffrey. My operation was scheduled for tomorrow, and I thought I couldn’t pay for it.” Alan said as tears ran down his face. To Jeffrey’s surprise, Alan gave him a big hug. It was the first hug Jeffrey had received in years.
Alan promised to reward Jeffrey for his kindness once here covered. A few weeks later, Alan approached Jeffrey, saying that his operation had been a success and that he had fully recovered. He helped Jeffrey find work as a waiter at a nearby restaurant. Within a year, Jeffrey was able to save enough money to start renting a small apartment close to work and began studying toward his goal. They have remained close friends ever since. Later, with joint efforts, they formed an initiative to help provide food for homeless children in the area.
