W: Are you a photographer or a writer?
M: Actually, I used to be a photographer. But for the past five years, I’ve worked on a special project called NOVICA. We help people sell their handwork products. My role is to find people who make unique and well-made items. Right now, we have 4000 artists working with us.
W: And how does National Geographic help them?
M: Through the NOVICA program, artists can sell their handwork products directly to other people throughout the world on our website. This way, they can get a fair price and reach a bigger market. Production is usually done in the artists’ own homes.
W: That sounds amazing! What kind of handwork products are available, Mr. MacGregor?
M: Well, for example... I just got back from a trip to Peru. I was able to convince a young mother who makes beautiful clothing to try out our program. And in three days, I’m off to Fiji to talk to a man who makes silver jewelry with traditional designs. The program is intended to preserve cultural traditions and help people make a better living with their art.

    【答案】18.A    19.B    20.A
Welcome, everyone. This is Allan from Doctors’ Research. As we all know, your job not only affects your income, quality of life, and happiness, but it also affects your health. A new study has suggested that having an interesting job in your forties may reduce your risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease in old age. After examining over 100, 000 volunteers, the researchers found that people like government officers and lawyers are a third less likely to suffer from Alzheimer’s disease than vehicle drivers and machine operators. Although lots of studies have suggested that keeping the brain active by challenging yourself regularly likely reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, none of them has found that mentally demanding hobbies, like doing puzzles, have the same effect. Nor does reading. On the contrary, regular exercise and a healthy diet are recommended in helping lower the risk to some degree.

故填in。
故填and。
故填to see。
根据句意和句中“since ___ outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020”可知,句子应用现在完成时,“100,000 people”与“have”连用,“gather”的过去分词为“gathered”,故空格处应填“have gathered”。故填have gathered。
故填the。

One possible version:
Recently, citizens in our city have held a heated debate on whether we should explore the cultural site. Different people have different opinions.
Some people are in favor of the idea. They think the cultural site is worth exploring, which will make people learn more about the great history of our country. Besides, this cultural site can attract more visitors to our city, which will improve our tourism. However, others hold an opposite opinion that we should keep the cultural site as it is and protect it properly.
In my opinion, we should ask the experts for advice to make good use of this cultural site.

An idea occurred to me abruptly. Whether he would say yes or not I would try to invite him to our party tonight. As I walked toward him I said, “Hi, my name is Kate and I’m one of the instructor. It’s nice to meet you. How are you?” In a shaky, sheepish voice he unwillingly answered, “Okay, I guess.” I calmly asked him if he wanted to join the activity and meet some new people. He quietly replied, “No, this is not really my interest.” I had already knew the answer, so I left him alone. However, the next day, I tried again. This time I found several campers to come with me. When we approached to him, I tried again, with the same questions as before, “How are you doing? Are you okay? Would you like to come with us?” He refused us again. But I had no plan to give up. Therefore, I would invite him to every activity that followed.
Half a year later, I heard from him. There was an invitation of graduation party in the letter. When it was time for the senior high students to say goodbye to each other, a party was held for them to enjoy the last moment of their friendship. They gathered in the hall, singing, dancing and talking. I looked around to see what the boy was doing. Suddenly I saw what would be one of the most vivid memories of my life. The boy was surrounded by other students, who listened to his stories with great interest. The boy, who was quite different from how he reacted to the group activity, turned to be talkative. It was obvious that his inspiring description attracted his listeners. In that instant, I realized that you may never know how much each ask may mean to someone else.
    ①.不愿意:unwillingly/reluctantly/grudgingly
    ②.邀请:invite/calling/invitation to
    ③.拒绝:refuse/shake his head/decline
①.感兴趣:with great interest/take an interest in
    ②.激励的:inspiring/heartening/stimulatory
The boy, who was quite different from how he reacted to the group activity, turned to be talkative.(由关系代词who引导非限制性定语从句)
It was obvious that his inspiring description attracted his listeners.
