Take your dog for a meal. At more restaurants including some of the most fashionable ones, dining with animals is now part of the evening's menu.
When locals in Key West, go out to dinner, a popular place is an open-air restaurant. On entering the restaurant, they’ll likely see a cat next to a sign that says “Pet the Cat, $1. ”
For the owners of the restaurant, serving human guests alongside their pets is a no-brainer. Since they opened the restaurant, they've had a friendly rule towards pets, the one that allows pets into the restaurant in a given week.
Americans more and more depend on restaurants (they eat 4. 2 meals out each week), it's only natural that the family pet is finally getting into the act. Enter “pet-friendly restaurants” into an Internet search engine and many restaurants come out.
Why do restaurants court pets?“Dogs never send their food back, ” jokes one owner.
The trend(趋势)doesn’t only belong to common places. Many high-rank restaurants also have followed the trend. And there are some cooks making a special effort to treat those with four legs. Lorie Ann, co-owner and cook at a restaurant named Fish Wagon in Calif, specializing in German and French food, serves a free home-made “doggie burger" and a few doggie “cookies" to non-human guests.
Even as more restaurants seek to draw pet owners, they are still the exception. Most local health rules make it clear that pets should be prevented from restaurants and suggest that they be kept out of open-air areas. Still, many officials don't pay attention to the rules and allow pets to sit outside with their owners.
To make pet owners convenient within the rules, some restaurants allow pets to sit with their owners only when the animals are “parked” just outside the designated(指定的)dining area.
34. Why does it become part of the evening's menu to take pets for a meal naturally in America?

B. People have meals out more often than ever before.
C. Pet owners want to give their pets better things to eat.

A. Restaurants please owners in order to bring more dogs.
B. Restaurants give more special service to pets than humans.
C. Restaurants try to balance between the rules and guests' need.
D. Health rules don't have any influence on dining out with pets.
37. Which would be the best title for the passage?

I will never forget the year when I was about 12 years old. My mother told us that we would not be receiving Christmas gifts because there was not enough money. I felt sad and thought, “What would I say when the other kids asked what I’d got?” Just when I started to accept that there would not be a Christmas gift that year, three women turned up at our house with gifts for all of us. For me they brought a doll. I felt such a sense of relief that I would no longer have to be embarrassed when I returned to school. I wasn’t forgotten. Somebody had thought highly of me and brought me a gift.
Years later, when I stood in the kitchen of my new house, thinking how I wanted to make the coming Christmas special and memorable, I remembered the women’s visit. I decided that I wanted to create that same feeling for as many children as I could possibly reach.
So I came up with a plan and asked 40 people from my company to help. We invited about 125 orphans(孤儿)at the Christmas party. For every child, we wrapped colorful packages filled with toys, clothes, and school supplies, each with a child’s name. We wanted all of them to know they were special.
Before I called out their names and handed them their gifts, I reminded them that they couldn’t open their presents until every child had come forward. Finally the moment they had been waiting for came as I called out, “One, two, three. Have you ever imagined going inside of a video game? That dream may soon become real. It’s called the “metaverse”.
The metaverse is a shared virtua(虚拟的)3D world, or worlds. The word is a combination of “meta”, which means beyond, and “verse”, which refers to “universe”. The word first appeared in a 1992 science fiction book called Snow Crash. In this story, people wear virtual reality(VR)headsets to see and join the metaverse.
Now, what happens in the book is becoming a reality. Wearing a VR headset, you can meet other people wherever they are. You can work and play with them. It will feel real because the technology can simulate(模拟)our senses: vision, hearing, touch, and even smell.
“We’re talking about creating another reality, another world, that’s as rich as the real world,” said Rev Lebaredian, vice president of simulation technology at NVIDIA, a US tech company.
So, what can you do inside of the metaverse? Your location will no longer matter, says VOA News. In the metaverse, “people...would be connected at all times…” You can meet friends from other countries and go on a virtual beach vacation together. But forget Thailand — you can go to the beach on the moon, or anywhere else you can imagine. Can’t find a friend to play basketball? Jump into the metaverse and find some friends to play with or go to a concert!
Cathy Hackl, an expert in metaverse technology, said her son’s first concert was inside of a video game. “Just because it happened in a video game, it didn’t make it less real for him,” she said.
Perhaps the metaverse will change our idea of what is real.
37.What can we learn from Paragraph 2?

C.An introduction to the game company. D.How you can join the metaverse.
38.Wearing a VR headset, you can ________.

C.create your own virtual world D.feel what you can touch
39.What do we know from VOA News?

B.You can visit any place you like in the metaverse.
C.Scenes in the metaverse are all connected.

40.What is Cathy Hackl’s attitude(态度)toward the metaverse?

Food deliverymen(外卖员)can be seen on nearly every street in many Chinese cities. However, the job is becoming increasingly dangerous.
Recently, an article in the Chinese magazine showed how difficult the job can be. It describes the physical and mental(身心的)pressure that delivery workers face because of time limits(限制)set by food delivery apps. Delivering an order late, even by one second, results in a fine(罚款).
The time limit has increased the risk of traffic accidents. According to a 2017 report, a serious injury or death involving(涉及)a delivery worker happens every 2.5 days in Shanghai.
According to the article, the time limit for each order is set by an algorithm(算法). If an order is finished within the time limit, the limit will be shortened for every delivery worker. But the algorithm doesn’t consider real-life situations. To solve the problem, a food delivery company Eleme said it will add something new to its delivery app. Customers can choose to click a button(点击按钮)which means they are willing to wait longer to give riders more time.
However, some people questioned that change. “Will riders be forced to take more orders if I choose to click that button?” said Wang Fang, a 17-year-old student from Hefei. “It is much better to let the apps change their algorithms. We customers are not responsible for this matter.”
33.The first and second paragraphs show that ________.

B.The time limit has been shortened by Eleme.
C.Many customers don’t want to give riders more delivery time.

B.To ask the food delivery companies to pay more for deliverymen.
C.To call on food delivery companies to take more useful action.

Chinese high school headmaster Zhang Guimei has been honored with the title “Role Model of the Times” in recognition of her dedication to education for girls.
With the support of the Party and the government, she helped set up the country’s first senior high school to offer free education for girls from poor families. Since it opened in 2008, it has seen more than 1,800 students progress to universities and colleges.
About 20 years ago, while on the way to visit a student’s house, Zhang Guimei, noticed a girl sitting on the hillside. She was staring blankly into space. The 13-year-old girl told Zhang she was about to get married and it was arranged by her parents. “But I want to go to school,” the girl said. Zhang went to her house and tried to persuade her parents to let the girl return to school and promised to pay for her tuition herself. However, they didn’t agree.
The experience persuaded Zhang to build a free high school for girls, aiming to help girls from poor families to get free high school education. After years trying to raise money, in 2008, Huaping High School for Girls, a free public high school, was set up at the foot of the Shizi Mountain in Huaping, where Zhang is the principal.

More than 1,800 graduates have been admitted to college, which is regarded a "miracle" in the remote area, as most students didn’t perform well in study before the school was set up.
Zhang says she wants children from the mountain to attend the best universities. Zhang Guimei told the media a girl can influence three generations. "An educated, responsible mother will not let her children drop out of school," she says, adding the goal is to prevent poverty from passing down from generation to generation.
Zhang has changed the lives of these girls by enabling them to pursue education and preventing poverty from being passed on to the next generation, according to a statement issued by the department.
