一、阅读理解Unusual Libraries Around the World There are 2.7 million libraries spreading across the globe, and while there are many beautiful ones, there are also a number of unique ones.Haskell Free Library and Opera House, Quebec, Canada and Vermont, US The Haskell Free Library and Opera House, a special library spanning two countries, is stationed on the border between Canada and the United States and serves people from both countries. The main entrance is on the American side, but the majority of collection of the books are in Canada. There's even an official American-Canada borderline running right across the library's floor.Deichman Bjorvika, Oslo, Norway Praised by many as a library of the future, the Deichman Bjorvika, city of Oslo's new main library, has one hundred unread and unpublished texts. They are stored in a specially designed room lined with wood from the forest, making the library the world's most secretive one. It witnesses different authors add their works to the collection that will not be available for reading until 2114.Seashore Library, Qinhuangdao, China Quietly sitting on an isolated(孤零零的) stretch of beach of Qinhuangdao in northern China, the Seashore Library has been called the world's loneliest library. People have to walk across the sand to reach the doors. The building is designed to promote people's connection with ocean, so the main reading room features a layered design to ensure that everyone has a good view of the sea.Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Alexandria, Egypt Bibliotheca Alexandrina is considered as a revival(复兴) of an ancient library in the Alex-andria 2,300 years ago or so. Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Arun Kumar Bajaj has a very unusual skill—he can paint with a sewing machine(缝纫机). Technically, it's embroidering, not painting, but his artworks are so detailed that they can pass as paintings to the untrained eyes. And the fact that he does it all with a sewing machine just makes that much more impressive. Arun was really good at drawing and painting while growing up and dreamed of becoming a famous painter, but his father died suddenly 15 years ago, which destroyed his plans and forced him to give up school in order to run the family business. His father was a tailor and he became one too, but he didn't let the artist in him die. He started "painting" with a needle and thread, but instead of using his hands, he decided on a rather unusual tool—the sewing machine. It took him a while to master this unique art form, but today he is recognized as the world's only sewing machine artist. His works become very popular both in India and abroad. It's easy to see why, just by looking at them, but what really makes his embroideries special is the tool he uses. "You need to be very careful because once you've stitched the cloth, there's no way you can repair it." Arun said. "It's all done in a single layer to give the painting a neat look." Some of Arun's most impressive works include a 4×2 feet painting of the court of Ranjit Singh, which took the artist over a year to finish. Arun runs a tailoring business in the Adalat Bazar of Patiala, but he devotes a lot of his time to his artistic dream as well.4、What was Arun's ambition when he was growing up?A. To be a famous sewer. B. To be expert at embroidering.C. To start a company of his own. D. To be a well-known artist.5、What can we infer about Arun's business?A. It runs very well at present. B. It often lacks a lot of money.C. It has a lot of branches abroad. D. It is sponsored by the local government.6、How did Arun paint the court of Ranjit Singh?A. By using his feet. B. By using his mouth.C. With a needle and thread. D. With a brush and paints.7、How can we best describe Arun?A. Outgoing and generous. B. Gifted and hardworking.C. Courageous but impatient. D. Narrow minded and bad-tempered. Electric cars are already greener than petrol cars in almost every part of the world today, according to researchers. They say electric vehicles are "a no-regret choice" even in places where power nets haven't gone fully green. Some previous comparisons suggested petrol cars produce lower net carbon emissions(净碳排放量) over their lifetime than battery-powered cars. Yet these analyses have often com-pared only two fixed models of cars. Instead, the researchers from Radboud University looked at the average emissions across many classes of car to get a clearer global picture. It includes during its production, while it is being driven and when it is broken, for all the petrol and electric cars sold in 59 areas across the world in 2015. They connected with information of those areas in the following years and found that the electric vehicles are greener than the new petrol cars. Electric vehicles already have lower net carbon emissions in 53 of those 59 areas. Only in some countries that use coal heavily, such as India and Poland, are electric car emissions worse than those of petrol cars. The researchers say that the differences between petrol and electric cars on the carbon emissions will grow bigger as power stations get greener. By 2030, they expect the carbon emissions of electric cars to be 20 percent lower than that in 2015, and 30 percent lower by 2050. The suggestions for governments are clear, says Knobloch. "There is no need to wait. Don't be confused by all those different results out there. It's a no-regret choice already."8、Why did the former comparison show petrol cars more greener?A. It was too simple. B. It had no scientific basis.C. It lacked experimental evidence. D. It lacked enough reference objects.9、How many areas do electric cars have higher net carbon emissions?A.6. B.53. C.59. D.112.10、What can we infer from the last paragraph?A. Petrol cars will be fully replaced.B. The carbon emissions of electric cars will be zero.C.Power stations will get huge advance technologically.D. Petrol cars' pollution will force people to buy electric cars.11、What is the purpose of the text?A. To state the development of electric cars.B. To tell readers how to choose an electric car.C. To show electric cars are greener than petrol cars.D. To state the differences between petrol and electric cars. Most of us want to get in shape and be healthy. For many of us nutrition(营养) and watching what we eat is an important way to stay healthy. But when it comes to food, what is calorie counting, and what are the positives and negatives of it? A law in the UK came into force in April 2022 that requires restaurants, takeaways, and cafes to display the calorie information of non-pre-packed food and soft drinks on their menus. It's a strategy aimed to deal with obesity(肥胖) and give people a more informed choice of what goes down into their stomachs. Being able to count calories and know how much we can eat is a great way to try and stay on track with our diet. However, there are some disbelievers when it comes to calorie counting. 200 calories of fresh fruit and 200 calories of junk food, for example cookies, have the same caloric value. However, there is a question of the health benefits of what you're eating, regardless of calories. While fresh fruit like apples contains things like vitamin C, junk food could contain an unhealthy level of sugar and fats. Likewise(同样地), fruit may fill you up and leave you not wanting more food for longer than a biscuit with equal calories—meaning, overall, you eat less. Simply counting calories, while useful for weight loss, doesn't take into account your intake of good fats, carbohydrates, and proteins—things that your body needs. So, if you're trying to stick to a low-carbon diet, just looking at numbers of calories on a menu won't be that useful. So, always be mindful that what you're eating is part of a healthy balanced diet.12、What's the aim of the newly-passed law in the UK?A. To ensure food security. B. To direct the food industry.C. To help reduce obesity. D. To get tough with the businessmen.13、What opinion do disbelievers hold?A. Calorie alone doesn't contribute to health.B. Junk food has more calories than fresh fruit.C. Less calories mean less food in your stomach.D. Sugar and fats are more harmful than calories.14、What's the text mainly about?A. The best way to keep in shape.B. A research result of obesity in the UK.C. Nutrition and its health benefit.D. Opinions and comments on calorie counting.15、From which section of a magazine is this text most likely taken?A. Entertainment. B. Lifestyle. C.Finance. D. Education.二、七选五16、 Handwritten Chinese characters can be beautiful. The cat continued to stare at him. Tommy sighed. "I know it's not a good idea to feed a stray cat(流浪猫)," he said, "but you look so hungry! I can't sit here and eat without feeding you!" Tommy put some turkey on a plate for the cat. As Tommy watched, she ate every piece of the turkey and then began to clean her face. "Wow!" Tommy said, "You must have been starving. Can I keep it now?” His father replied, “I think you’ve waited long enough.” “You mean I can keep the cat?” Tommy was wild with joy. His father gave him a nod and said. “Why don’t you name the cat? That will make her a member of our family.” Thinking over and over again, Tommy decided to call the cat Snowy because she was as white as snow.
