    Dear Chris,
It's been a long time since we last met. How is everything? I'm kind of busy recently, for our school is planning to hold a class meeting with the theme of introducing traditional Chinese culture.Meanwhile, the activity will be hosted on an English website. I was appointed to take charge of this activity, which worries me a lot.
Faced with difficulties, I have to turn to you for help. Since you have always been interested in Chinese culture, I sincerely hope that you can tell me what traditional Chinese culture attracts you foreigners most and why. I know it's not an easy question to answer, but any advice from you will be of great help in accomplishing my task.
I would appreciate it if you could give me any idea. I am looking forward to receiving your earliest reply.
    Yours,
    Li Hua

Looking at the vans running on the streets, I believed there must be one available. Thus, we decided to go out to find a van that could be helpful for our idea. It happened that a van was waiting outside a store and the driver was busy unloading. I greeted him with a smile and told him my Thanksgiving ritual and our plan. Handing him 100 dollars, I asked him if he could work together with us to carry food to Harlem.
The driver refused the money we offered and was willing to take us. Having filled the van with full load of food, we left for Harlem, dressed like delivery men. Two hours later, we were on our way back with an empty van. Although exhausted, we talked and laughed with great joy and excitement. The broad smile spreading across the poor people’s faces told us that our small act of kindness made a difference to them and I believed some day they would also give others a helping hand if possible.

根据“The Cinema Museum”部分关键句“Opening hours: 11 am-5 pm Mon-Fri by appointment only”(开放时间:周一至周五上午11点至下午5点(仅限通过预约))可知,只有提前预约才能参观The Cinema Museum,由此可知,参观The Cinema Museum之前,你需要提前预订。故选B项。

    B
D 25. C 26. D 27. A
根据第一段“Richard Proenneke did what most nature lovers can only dream of: At age 51, he quit his job as a mechanic and moved to the Alaskan wilderness to become one with nature.(理查德·普伦内克做了大多数自然爱好者只能梦想的事情:51岁时,他辞去了机械师的工作,搬到了阿拉斯加的荒野,与自然融为一体)”可知,理查德·普伦内克和其他自然爱好者不同的是他独自一人搬到了荒野居住,和大自然融为一体。
根据第三段划线所在句子的前半句话“Going such long periods without companionship (这么长时间没有伴侣)”以及后几句话“But that was not the case for Proenneke. An obsessive observer and diarist, Proenneke once noted he was so busy with his life that he was never lonely. He spent most of his free time writing about the weather, the environment and the animals, some of which he befriended with regular treats. (但普伦内克并非如此。作为一名痴迷的观察家和日记作者,普伦内克曾指出,他忙于自己的生活,从不感到孤独。他大部分空闲时间都在写天气、环境和动物,其中一些是他经常招待的朋友。)”可知,对于大多数人来,长时间独居会让人感到劳累,甚至崩溃。但是对于普伦内克来说并非如此。他有很多事情可做,从不感到孤单。由此可知,tax的意思为“挫败”。故选C。
    【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段倒数中“He spent most of his free time writing about the weather, the environment and the animals, some of which he befriended with regular treats. He hiked thousands of miles per year, becoming quite familiar with the miles of wilderness around his cabin. He caught and ate fish from the lake. Having no refrigerator, he dug into the ground and created a chilly storage box that helped to prolong his fresh foods.(他大部分空闲时间都在写天气、环境和动物,其中一些是他经常招待的朋友。
故选A。
    C
B 29. D 30. C 31. A
根据第三段“In the spring, conservationists celebrated a small bit of good news when four captive-born pups(幼兽) were placed into a cave and successfully adopted by a wild red wolf mother. Meanwhile, another four adults were released into the wild. The pups are thought to be still alive and healthy. But the adults didn’t go well. In the months after release, three were struck by cars and killed, and the fourth was fatally shot on private land.(今年春天,环保主义者庆祝了一个小小的好消息:四只圈养出生的红狼幼崽被放进一个洞穴,成功地被一只野生红狼妈妈收养。与此同时,另外四只成年红狼被放归野外。这些幼崽被认为仍然活着,健康。但成年红狼并不顺利。在释放后的几个月里,三头被汽车撞死,第四头在私人土地上被枪杀。)”可推断,被放生野外的红狼还需要保护。故选D。
    【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“To boost the population after these deaths, the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced in November that it planned to release nine adult red wolves into their recovery area this winter, land within and surrounding two wildlife reserves.(在这些死亡事件后,为了增加红狼的数量,美国鱼类和野生动物管理局在11月宣布,计划在今年冬天释放9只成年红狼到它们的恢复区,即两个野生动物保护区及其周围的土地上。)”
根据最后一段“And yet the situation now is even more urgent than it was in 2018—this should launch the conservation community in the U. S. into crisis mode to save this species and bring it back from the extinction.(然而,现在的情况甚至比2018年更紧迫——这应该启动美国的保护社区进入危机模式,以拯救这个物种,并使其从灭绝中恢复。)” 故选A。

Looking at the vans running on the streets, I believed there must be one available. Walking to a crossroad and waiting by the light, we knocked on each window, “Sir, could you take us to Harlem to give good thanks?” Every time the driver would look away ignoring us. Then we started offering people $100 but that also seemed ineffective. We were ready to give up when a perfect van drove up, which was extra big and could accommodate all of us. We went up and asked “Could you take us to Harlem to give good thanks? We’ll pay you a hundred dollars.”
The driver refused the money we offered and was willing to take us. On the way to Harlem we chatted. “Why do you people want to do this?” asked he. I told him my story and my thanksgiving ritual. Arriving there, we first went to buy necessary food, packing enough for seven families for thirty days. Then we went to deliver them. It was both an astonishing realization that people lived this way and a truly fulfilling experience to make even a small difference.
Looking at the vans running on the streets, I believed there must be one available. We went to the street and waved to stop the passing vans. What made us down was that no one stopped. But I told myself: “maybe next one.” After about half an hour, a van stopped in front of me and a young man stuck out his head, “What can I do for you, Sir?” “Are you willing to take us to Harlem? We can pay you 100 dollars.” “Harlem?” the driver hesitated. After I explained what we wanted to do, he nodded. I handed him 100 dollars.
The driver refused the money we offered and was willing to take us. We bought a lot of food, packed them and knocked at some doors to deliver the food to the families in need. As usual, I included the notes explaining my Thanksgiving experience as a kid. Seeing the surprised but grateful expressions on their faces from a distance, we felt we had a meaningful Thanks giving Day.

    (Text 6)
M: Room two twenty is smaller than our other rooms, but the price is just one hundred and sixty-five dollars for the night.
W: Does that include use of the pool and the exercise room?
M: Of course. It includes the use of all facilities except the tennis courts, which are closed for the winter.
W: Okay, I’ll take it. I’ll just carry my suitcase up and have a quick look at the room, and then I’m going out for a bite to eat. I’m starving.
    (Text 7)
M: It was great to actually meet the person that wrote the books I’ve enjoyed so much. And he asked us a lot about our opinions of his work.
W: I found that as he talked, it made all the references in his stories much clearer. He’s certainly had varied experiences — becoming a doctor, going climbing in the Andes …
M: You’re right. For me, that’s the attraction of the stories — they’ve got such a wide range of settings. You never get bored.
    W: I don’t know. There have been a couple I couldn’t get into.
M: Well, they all make some sense to me after what he said.
    (Text 8)
W: Have you heard about the apartment in Curry Grove that I’ve been assigned to design? It turns out that it will take a lot more time than originally planned. Would you be able to help me out?
M: Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to. I’m supposed to train our new workers over the next two weeks, so I am not going to have time to do anything else. You can’t do it all on your own?
W: I probably can, but it is a very important project. I’m hoping to get it done by the deadline for sure.
M: Then, you should tell Mr. Cortez and see if you can get help from him. He’s a very generous co-worker, so I think he would be happy to help you a bit if you can’t do it on your own.
    (Text 9)
W: Good morning. Welcome to Science World. Today we’re talking about direction. Some people never get lost, while others need a GPS just to find their way to the store! And, of course, a GPS is not always accurate.
M: Definitely. Everyone has a story about following a GPS route and ending up in the middle of a field! But, why are some people so much better at finding their way than others? Are they born with that skill?
W: Not necessarily. Scientists say people who have a good sense of direction probably pay more attention to what’s around them. They notice more details. A lot of people don’t pay attention at all. If you’re thinking about something else while you’re walking, of course you’re more likely to get lost.
M: Hmm. I guess we do use things we see to help us find places. I remember there was a tree at the corner of a street where my friend lived. One day, the tree was gone, and I couldn’t find the street. I was completely lost! I was using the tree as a visual clue, even though I didn’t know it.
W: Yes, I’ve experienced something similar to that. Well, one day …

M: Hello everyone. My name is Alan. On behalf of Medi Travel I’d like to welcome you all to Ibiza, where fun is as certain as death and taxes. You can walk into town and enjoy the local shops and restaurants or take a moonlit walk along the water if you prefer some peace and quiet. We’re going to be pulling up to the Marina Hotel in just a few minutes. Please sit back and enjoy the view of the ocean on the right hand side of the bus as we go over the bridge. I kindly ask that you remain in your seats and do not eat or drink on the bus. Manuel will be meeting us at the entrance to give you a warm welcome and help you with your bags. Please make sure your bag has been taken off the bus. I wish you all a wonderful vacation in Ibiza and I hope to see you around the great place.
