Like Father Like Son
Good morning everyone! I am He Ping from Shuangcheng Zhaolin Middle high school.It is my great honor to speak to you about my ideas of taking this lesson :Unit 3 Family matters Period 2 Understanding ideas Like Father Like Son.
Now I will be ready from the following parts to present my ideas,Part one: Designing Principle,Part Two: Background Analysis, Part Three:Teaching Aims, Part Four:Teaching Key and Difficult points, Part Five: Teaching Procedure, Part Six:Designing Features and the last part: Blackboard Design.
Part one :Designing Principle
First, according to the English curriculum standards, we know it advocates the theme-oriented class. Second, according to the ZPD, which means the zone of the proximal development where the students can do what they couldn’t have done before with the help of teachers.At last, according to the English core competence(英语学科核心素养),it contains Language Proficiency Goal,Thinking quality goal,Cultural awareness goal and Learning Ability Goal.
Part Two: Background Analysis
The first one:Analysis of the textbook
This version of the textbook is the new External Research Version of 2019.The revised textbook inherits, improves and breaks through the original textbook from four aspects which are embodied in the following four prominent features.First, further play the core role of theme in driving learning, thinking activities and promoting practice.Second, based on the text,enrich the genre. One of the key issues to improve the core quality of the subject is to enrich the text and make students contact with various types.Third, innovate the activity design, point to the core quality of the discipline,and strictly implement the concept of English learning activities.
The second one:Analysis of the Unit
Unit Three Family Matters it contains several parts: the Grandpa’ trunk, Father and Son, Say Sorry to Family Member, Just a Brother, Writing About a Family Memory and last, Talking About Your Understanding of Family Relationship. And it shows thematic context: Person and self - Family life and thematic meaning:Establish a correct outlook on life and values.
The third one:Analysis of Genre
The type of the test is Drama. It contains setting, characters, plot, actions and dialogue.
The fourth one:Analysis of Content
The content is mainly about the conflict between the son and the father,and another conflict between the father and the grandfather.Students should think about the causes of the conflict between father and son, and how to solve the family conflict in a reasonable way to build a good family relationship.
The fifth one:Analysis of learning condition
Subject: the students in the first semester of grade one,And they are in the middle and high school transition and their reading comprehension is week.But their basic ability to read comprehension and find information is good.Their age is adolescence.
Part Three: Teaching Aims
According to the English core competence(英语学科核心素养),it contains Language Proficiency Goal,Thinking quality goal,Cultural awareness goal and Learning Ability Goal.
The first one:Language Proficiency Goal:
To understand the main idea of the play, analyze the text and understand the meaning of the title.
The second one:Thinking quality goal:
Able to analyze the reasons for the contradiction between father and son, and to choose the effective way to solve the family contradiction in accordance with their own reality.
The third one:Cultural awareness goal:
Be able to correctly view adolescence, and properly solve the daily family contradictions, establish a correct outlook on life and values.
The last one:Learning Ability goal:
To master stylistic features, basic elements and common reading methods of dramas through discourse learning.
Part Four:Teaching Key and Difficult Points
Key Points:To guide the students to understand the passage, analyze the reason of the contradiction between father and son and understand the meaning of the title.
Difficult Points: To guide the students to master the basic characteristics of drama and correctly look at family conflicts, establish a correct outlook on life, values.

Step 1. Lead-in
Students watch the video and answer the questions: What conflicts do they have?
This video is full of humor and moving so students will like it。Now answer the question :What conflicts do they have? here we need four minutes。And I will continue to ask:What conflicts have you had with your parents? How did you solve them?
Now let’s read a play and find out what conflict the son had with his father.A play is a story performed on a stage. It has plot, settings, characters, actions and dialogue.Here my Design intention(设计意图): Introduce the theme context of family life, stimulate students' interest.
Step 2. Prediction
According to the illustration, students can predict what happened between the father and son.Here we need one minute。My design intention of this part :Make full use of textbook illustrations to cultivate students' imagination, and let students integrate into the context in advance to prepare for reading.
Step 3. Reading
First, Fast Reading.We know a play contains five parts: the Plot, the Setting, the Characters, the Action and the Dialogue.The students need to finish the blank Setting :when and where? Characters:Son;Father;Grandfather.And The conflict is about_____. Here it needs four minutes.
My design intention of this part :Get familiar with the five elements of drama, clarify the text framework, find out the specific conflicts, and prepare for the following in-depth reading.
Second,Careful reading. After careful reading, students need to finish the blank.The son wants to have a career in music and the reason is that suits his talent.But the father wants his son go to university and be the lawyer because Lawyers help people and are respected by others.And what the role of the grandfather?What the conflict Between father and grandfather?Here it need for eight minutes.
My design intention: Develop students' ability to acquire, summarize and process information.
Now analyze the whole text .Here it is setting part and the whole part is plot and dialogue.Here grandfather,father and son are the characters of drama.And these words for example,son enter the room, nervously approaching the table, raising his voice in surprise, looking at father, ignoring grand father’s words.They are the actions.
The reading part: Analyze the conflict.Why did the conflict happen? It’s about having a career in music. Son thinks: Making music is a job.But Father thinks: playing in a band is not a job.That is conflict.And also the father and the grandfather. It needs eight minutes.
My design intention of this part :Cultivate students' ability to analyze text and questions, and improve the quality of thinking.
Step 4 Title Understanding
We all know understanding the title is very important so I design this part: discussion.What’s your understanding of the title ?According to the mind map,students can understand the title easily.Here it needs eight minutes.
My design intention of this part To enhance cooperation, inquiry learning and cultural awareness.
Step 5. Thinking and Sharing
If you were in a similar situation to the son, what would you do? What conflicts have you had with your parents? How did you solve them?It needs six minutes.
My design intention of this part:To rationally choose effective ways to solve family conflicts in accordance with their own reality.
Step 6. Homework
Read the ending again:Is Father kidding ?or serious?Continue the story according to your imagination.It needs one minute.
My design intention of this homework: Cultivate students' open thinking, consolidate the basic elements of writing.
Part Six:Designing Features
The teacher uses transition devices such as blanks, the chart, the mind map to facilitate students’ understanding of the text in order to develop students’ logical thinking.
