B
In my second year of high school, I took my first computer science course, which helped me realize I was interested in software. The idea of creating something from just lines of codes and logic was very fascinating. And I didn't put as much time into music as I used to, thinking practicing the piano was just a waste of time.
A year later, when I got back on the piano, I quickly noticed my musical ear was not as strong as it was before. I could no longer hear the difference between a perfect 4th and a perfect 5th or between a D and D flat. Then I had a firm decision to get my skills to where it used to be. After weeks of practicing, I didn't see much progress. I was extremely discouraged and felt that I would have to accept that I no longer will be able to play as well as I used to.
While watching hundreds of tutorials online on how to code in Swift I came up with an idea. What if I used the knowledge I gained from these tutorials to develop an app that would help train my musical ear. After hours of coding, I developed an app that would play a different series of notes, then the user would have to type in the corresponding notes to what they heard. When I was on the subway or had some extra time I could easily open up the app on my phone and use it to help my musical ear. In about 2 months, I regained the skills I lost.
This experience helped me see something that I never noticed before. Programming gives me a platform to express my ideas; in a similar way, playing the piano gives me a way to express my feelings. When playing through a song for the first time I hear many errors. Similarly, when I run my program for the first time there are usually many mistakes. In both of these cases, it takes patience to go through each measure or line to hear or find the error. I realized when I’m playing the piano I am also practicing my programming skills and vice versa.

A.He received musical training online.
B.He improved himself by studying online.
C.He got inspired from the tutorials online.
D.He made good use of the app he downloaded online.
27.What can the author learn from the experience?
A.He came to realize it is important to develop some good qualities.
B.He understood the meaning of the saying “practice makes perfect”.
C.He found programming and playing the piano have something in common.
D.He felt it necessary to improve himself in programming and playing the piano.

Solar farms offer one way to meet the world’s decarbonization targets, but they could also be used to deal with another of the planet’s big problems: loss of biodiversity. The approach is starting to take off. Residents of Barnsdale, for example, will soon play host to a new solar farm lined with grass field of wildflowers and native grasses, which Banks Group, the developer, says will promote pollinating insects.
The idea comes from the combination of two long-term trends: declining numbers of pollinating insects and the growing amount of land distributed to solar farms. According to the Center for Biological Diversity in Arizona, more than 40 percent of insect pollinators globally are listed as “highly threatened”—an issue that could seriously threaten food security. Meanwhile, solar-energy competence has been increasing. Matthew O’Neal, a scientist at Iowa State University, would like to see more solar developers seize this opportunity.
The benefits of such projects don’t stop at the insects. Research from Yale’s Center for Business and the Environment indicates that pollinator-friendly solar farms can raise crop output on nearby farmland, increase the recharging of groundwater and reduce soil erosion. In 2018, a US Department of Energy study found that if all existing and planned solar facilities near soybean and cranberry crops included pollinator home and increased output by just one percent, annual crop values could rise by US $1.75 million, US $4 million and US $233,000, respectively.
“Farmers could identify unprofitable areas, such as poor, highly erodible lands, as candidates for a pollinator-friendly solar farm. There’s the potential to increase their net income with pollinator motivation projects,” says O’Neal.
With enough forward thinking, these studies show, clean energy can provide new environmental opportunities. “We’re at a turning point with energy production and we’re seeing more opportunities to provide extra benefits that wouldn’t have been considered with older methods of energy generation,” says O’Neal. “You never heard of a coal mine planning pollinator conservation.”
28.What can be an additional function of solar farms according to paragraph 1?
A.Adding the amount of farmland. B.Addressing the decline of biodiversity.
C.Improving the solar-energy competence. D.Increasing the amount of profitable areas.
29.What does O’Neal probably advise farmers to do?
A.Reduce the size of their farms.
B.Live away from pollinator-friendly solar farms.
C.Grow their crops near areas rich in groundwater.
D.Make full use of soil erosion areas to make extra profits.
30.What is O’Neal’s attitude towards the solar farm?
A.Supportive. B.Conservative. C.Skeptical. D.Uncertain.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.Solar Power Is Starting to Take Off
B.Solar Energy Will Be in Urgent Need
C.Solar Farms Can Deal with the Loss of Biodiversity
D.Solar Farms Need to Expand the Amount of Farmland

A method to transform a commonly thrown-away plastic to a resin (树脂) used in 3D printing could allow making better use of plastic waste, A team of Washington State University researchers developed a simple and efficient way to transform polyactic acid (PLA) (聚乳酸), a bio-based plastic used in products such as filament, plastic silverware and food packaging to high-quality resin.
“We found a way to immediately turn this into something that’s stronger and better, and we hope that will provide people with the inspiration to upcycle this stuff instead of just throw it away,” said Yu-Chung Chang, a postdoctoral researcher in the WSU School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering and a co-corresponding author on the work. “We made stronger materials just straight out of trash. We believe this could be a great opportunity.”
Although it’s bio-based, PLA, which is categorized as a number 7 plastic, doesn’t bread down easily. It can float in fresh or salt water for a year without degrading (降解). It is also rarely recycled because like many plastics, when it’s melted down and re-formed, it doesn’t perform as well as the original version and becomes less valuable.
“It’s biodegradable and compostable, but once you look into it, it turns out that it can take up to 100 years for it to rot away in a landfill,” Chang said. “In reality, it still creates a lot of pollution. We want to make sure that when we do start producing PLA on the million-tons scale, we will know how to deal with it.”
While the researchers focused on PLA for the study, they hope to apply the work to polyethylene terephthalate (PET) (涤纶树脂), which is more common than PLA and has a similar chemical structure and present a bigger waste problem. They have filed a temporary patent and are working further optimize (优化) the process. The researchers ane also looking into other applications for the upcycling method.
32.What can the method help do according to paragraph 1?
A.Solve financial crisis.
B.Change waste into wealth.
C.Control plastic production
D.Determine 3D printing skills
33.What does Yu-Chung Chang think of the method?
A.Promising B.Unrealistic
C.Imaginable D.Common
34.Which of the following is a feature of number 7 plastics?
A.Invaluable to recycle B.Easy to deal with
C.Hard to break down D.Difficult to sort out.
35.What is the text mainly about?
A.Applications for an upcycling method.
B.A better method to break down plastic
C.3D printing with newly found materials
D.A new way to turn plastic into valuable products.

Do you think that creativity is the ability you were born with?____36____
Many people believe that creative thinking is difficult and favors only some talented individuals and not most others.____37____Researchers have also identified certain personal qualities associated with creativity, such as openness to new experiences and ideas. Together, they seem to paint an unattractive picture for those who consider themselves conventional thinkers.
____38____Creative thinking is actually something you engage in every day, whether you realize it or not. Moreover, creativity is a skill that can be strengthened. This relieves people who don’t consider themselves creative.
Defined as novel and useful ideas, creative thoughts are original and unexpected, but also practicable.____39____For example, combining leftover food to make a tasty new dish, coming up with a new way to accomplish chores, or mixing old outfits to create a new look.
Researcher Chris Bauman found that simply redefining a frustrating situation can improve the creativity of conventional thinkers. Say you’re anxious about a presentation for work, you can deal with the anxiety by viewing it as a new opportunity to share ideas, rather than as a high-risk performance that could result in a shame if handled poorly. ____40____
All People can unlock their creativity. Although the outside circumstances may not always be controlled, they do have the freedom to choose how to deal with life in ways that creatively promote their productivity and well-being.

My teenage son, Jordan, always complained about having to be home earlier than all his friends. He would tell me that he was already seventeen, but still had a curfew (宵禁). He believed he was practically an adult. I pointed out that he was not an adult as he was still in high school.
“You don’t trust me!” he yelled. Before I continued, he rolled his eyes, slammed the door and walked away. I sighed. How could I make Jordan see that I only wanted to keep him safe?
I decided to go for a walk, hoping the December air would clear my head. I opened the front door and nearly stepped on her: a small black cat, just like a meatball. “Hi, Meatball,” I said, bringing her into my arms. I walked back in, touching her neck gently. Meatball seemed happy enough to come in the house, but after an hour or two, she sat by the door, meowing to go back outside.
“Why won’t she just stay in with us all the time?” Nathan, my youngest son asked.
I explained to him that she was happy here but she liked being able to come and go as she pleased.
“That must be nice,” Jordan muttered from the other room, complaining why the cat, not him, could come and go. He even asked me to give Meatball a curfew.
Meatball became a regular.
One night, temperatures were unusually low. Meatball stood at the door, meowing to go outside.
I shook my head at her, afraid that she might freeze to death. She stared at me and meowed again. I patted her head, “I know you’re not happy, but it’s for your own good.”
“Mom’s not being mean to you,” Nathan told the cat. “She’s just trying to keep you from turning into a frozen meatball.” We both laughed at his joke.
The next morning, I couldn’t find Meatball. I asked the kids if anyone had seen her.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Jordan nodded, “I let her out last night.”
