In April 2008, I came across an essay a boy with autism(自闭症)had written when he was 14. I was impressed. I thought there was potential for a documentary. The director agreed. “Find the boy!” he said. A couple of months later, I found him, Anton. So it began -a film about Anton’s transformation. At least, that’s what I thought at the time.
During filming, I helped put him into different hospitals and camps for treatment and we became close. There were lots of unforgettable moments. I remember one visit when we sat together, talking quietly and eating food I’d made. Then it was time for me to go. Without saying a word, Anton stood up and started to bang his head against the wall. BAM. BAM. Blood streamed down his face. At that moment, looking at the despair on Anton’s face, I recognized myself. What I recognized was an emotional abundance in him that I had myself. Like Anton, I was over the top. If I loved someone, I loved them completely. If I was upset, I let it show. But unlike Anton, I’d learned to edit emotions as if they were a film. But lately, I was waking up in the morning with one terrifying thought: “Who am I?” Anton helped me to answer this. He was the only person in my life who let me love without any holding back and who loved me the same way.
The film Anton’s Right Here was released in October 2012 and shown at film festivals in Russia where it received prizes at several major Russian film festivals.
After the film was shown by the First TV Channel -Russia’s main TV channel - letters flowed in. Autistic individuals and their families needed help. That’s when the idea of a foundation began to take shape in my mind. The foundation, called Anton’s Right Here, officially opened in December 2013. It’s Russia’s first-ever centre for adults with autism. It keeps helping people with autism like Anton.
When we started to film, Anton was 19. He’s now 31. I’m still very much a part of his life. With his unedited emotions, Anton reminds me every day of what it’s like to be really, unreservedly loved and to love back in return.
4. Why did the writer want to find Anton?
A. She intended to make a film about Anton. B. She saw Anton’s potential to be a writer.
C. She wanted to transform Anton’s life. D. She was asked to do so by the director.
5. Why did Anton hurt himself during a visit?
A. He was lost for words. B. His condition was getting worse.
C. He tended to lose his temper for no reason. D. He did not want the writer to leave.
6. What do we know about the documentary from the passage?
A. It took 5 years to shoot.
B. It aroused little social concern.
C. A foundation of the same name was established by Anton.
D. Shooting it made a difference to the writer’s life.
7. What lesson did the writer learn from Anton?
A. How to deal with autism. B. How to edit her emotions.
C. How to love and be loved. D. How to live life to the fullest.

When making choices, people assume that they pick what they like. However, research suggests that we like something strictly because we have chosen it. In other words, we dislike things we don’t choose. And this phenomenon has existed since we were babies.
In an experiment, US researchers brought several 10 to 20-month-old babies into a lab and gave them two same bright and colorful soft blocks to play with. They set each block far apart, so the babies had to crawl to one or the other—a random choice. After the baby chose one of the toys, the researchers took it away and came back with a new option. The babies could then pick either the toy they didn’t play with before, or a brand-new toy.
It turned out that the babies reliably chose to play with the new toy rather than the one they had not chosen.
In follow-up experiments, when researchers instead helped choose which toy the baby would play with, the phenomenon disappeared. “As if they were saying, ‘Hmm, I didn’t choose that object last time, because I guess I didn’t like it very much” said Lisa Feigenson, co-author of the study.
This is a very important phenomenon in life, Feigenson noted. Adults will less like the thing they didn’t choose, even if they had no real preference in the first place. It looks like babies do just the same.
It shows that the act of making choices changes how we feel about our options. The random choices might become our preferences. “They are really not choosing based on whether they are novel or what they prefer,” said Alex Silver, co-author of the study.
This new finding explains why adults build unconscious preference when they make choices between the same things. Justifying(证明有道理) choice is somehow fundamental to the human experience. “I chose this, so I must like it. I didn’t choose this other thing, so it cannot be so good. Adults make these inferences unconsciously,” Feigenson said.
Such tendency makes sense to us as we live in a consumer culture and must make so many choices every day, between everything from toothpaste brands to styles of jeans.
Next, researchers will look at whether too many choices could be a problem for babies as they certainly are for adults.
8. What is the purpose of the experiments?
A. To test whether people choose what they like.
B. To see why babies prefer new toys to old ones.
C. To explain how babies and adults make choices differently.
D. To study if too many choices could create problems for people.
9. What can be learned from the experiments?
A. Babies prefer bright and colorful toys.
B. Babies’ preference largely affects their choices.
C. Babies prefer adults to help them make choices.
D. Babies’ previous random choices affect their preference.
10. Why is the new finding important in life?
A. It entirely changes our styles to choose.
B. It helps us make wise decisions in a consumer culture.
C. It promotes the relationship between adults and babies.
D. It helps us understand our unconscious preference for choices.
11. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Babies like what they choose B. Random choices matter
C. Too many choices puzzle the adults D. Preference affects the choice
D
China has released the first national draft guideline on the use of self-driving vehicles for public transport, a key move in speeding up the large-scale commercialization of autonomous driving technology and encouraging local authorities to create the relevant management policies, industry experts said.
The country will encourage the use of self-driving vehicles such as buses in an enclosed Bus Rapid Transit or BRT system, and allow autonomous vehicles to offer taxi services under simple and relatively controllable scenarios(方案)The national draft rules on self-driving vehicles are expected to better regulate the whole industry, providing a reference and guidance for local authorities that have yet to issue similar guidelines.
The draft regulation classified autonomous vehicles into three types: conditionally, highly and fully autonomous vehicles, depending on the degree of their autonomous capacity. The guideline said the first two types should have human drivers. Remote drivers or safety supervisors are essential for fully autonomous vehicles. In addition, safety should be the top priority in the management of self-driving vehicles. The guideline also requires that the routes of autonomous vehicles should be far away from heavily populated areas such as schools hospitals and large shopping malls.
Since China has taken the lead in the research development and application of autonomous driving technologies the latest move will encourage self-driving companies to carry out road tests and commercial operations of robotaxi services in more cities, promoting the large-scale commercial use of autonomous vehicles across the nation.
Some local governments have already rolled out a series of supportive policies to promote the commercialization of autonomous driving technology. For instance in July, Beijing launched China’s first pilot area for commercial autonomous driving vehicle services. However, a supervisor will still sit in the front passenger seat to ensure safety
"Currently, only a few countries have rolled out policies at the national level that support the development of autonomous vehicles,” said Lyu Jinghong an intelligent-mobility analyst, Lyu added that clear regulations at the national level will encourage local governments and autonomous driving companies to speed up the application of self-driving technology.
12. What is the significance of the national draft guideline of self-driving vehicles?
A. It sets a good example for many other countries.
B. It serves as a good reference for local guidelines
C. It ensures the safety awareness of remote drivers.
D. It encourages the use of household self-driving vehicles.
13. What is the classification of self-driving vehicles based on?
A. The limit of their speed. B. The level of automation.
C. The presence of drivers. D. The range of travel route
14. Which word can best describe Lyu’s attitude towards the national guideline?
A. Favourable. B. Pessimistic. C. Critical. D. Conservative
15. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. China launches the first pilot area for self-driving
B. Companies carry out road tests of robotaxi services
C. China’s first self-driving vehicles guideline released
D. A breakthrough in commercialization of new technology

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year,” my seven-year-old son, Nathan, sang with a huge grin. I sighed. I love Christmas. I do. But it’s also busy.
One evening in early December, I lay on the sofa next to my husband, Eric. I’d spent all day decorating the house for the season, and I was tired.
“The tree looks great, honey,” Eric said. “It’s okay with me if we don’t decorate. I know it’s a lot of work.”
“I can’t stop decorating for Christmas,” I said. “Think of how upset the kids would be.”
“Oh, yes, it’s all for the kids.” He smiled again.
But the next day, I was not loving it quite as much. I had a long list of other Christmas-related tasks, and nothing was going right. The previous week, I’d sent my kids’ wish lists to my mom, my mother-in-law, and my former mother-in-law, who was still very much a part of our family. I’d been careful to monitor Nathan’s lists to ensure that he didn’t ask more than one grandma for the same toy. I’d told him to make three separate lists, one for each grandma. He brought them to me, clearly excited about his lists.
I set them by the computer. And then I e-mailed the exact same list to each grandma.
I didn’t realize the mistake until the grandmas started texting me pictures of the toys they’d purchased. Three Star Wars light sabers(剑) — even in the same color. Three identical Star Wars Lego sets. Three of the same video game. Three of everything he’d ask for on one list. And nothing on the other two lists.
And it was all my fault.
“I was so careful,” I said to Eric. “How can I ask the grandmas to return all of the toys they just bought? And how do I choose which two to tell?”
“I’m sorry, honey,” he said. “But I’m sure they’ll understand. Mistakes happen.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
“What mistake?” Nathan said.

“I know. That’s why I’m going to give away the other two to kids who don’t get much for Christmas,” he replied.
