阅读下列短文,然后从每小题、B、C、D中选出能回答所提问题或完成所给句子的最佳答案。

Jerry is a world-famous mountain climber. He has climbed many high mountains in the world. Starting in 2015, he and his friends spent two years on an adventure (探险) in South America, covering 7, 800 miles. He was even named adventurer of the Year by a famous geography magazine in 2018.
Although Jerry had achieved great success, he didn't feel fulfilled. He asked himself, “Is it enough to climb the highest mountains? Am I doing something helpful? How can I turn my adventures into something that can help the world?"
Jerry learned that scientists need plants, rocks and water samples(样本) from places far away to do research. But scientists can't get there themselves as such places are hard to reach - only the bravest adventurers can make it. Jerry thought he could do something to help. He then came up with an idea. He set up a team of top adventurers to collect samples for scientists. By studying the samples, scientists could know more about the earth and find ways to protect it.
Recently Jerry and his adventurer friends have discovered a special plant life on Mount Qomolangma. The samples they brought back have helped scientists learn how plants live in extreme(极端的) conditions.
For Jerry, this kind of adventure is most satisfying, “Such adventures have made us see life in a different way. Now, being the best climber isn’t important for me. What matters is doing something helpful while climbing mountains. There is still much more we can do. ” Jerry said to a newspaper.

Success is often considered to be the opposite of failure. To teenagers, it is
the achievement of a goal or completion of something they really need, such
as good grades and the ability to get along well with their classmates. Some
schools used to agree with most parents who measured(判定) the success of
their children according to grades, but now they pay special attention to moral(道德的) education and character-building to make sure teenagers achieve success in building human relationships.
Schools give chances to students to discover their hidden ability so that they can enjoy some form of success. For example, those good at speaking skills are advised to take part in speech competitions while those interested in arts are expected to perform in front of their classmates. Teenagers also get the pleasure of success when they join their favorite clubs.

As Internet users become more dependent on the Internet to storeinformation, do people remember less? If you know your computer will store information, why do you store it in your own personal memory? Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember. In arecent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow made some experiments(实验). She and her research team wanted to know how the Internet is changing memory.
In the first experiment, they asked two groups of people to put 40 unimportant facts into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would store the information The second group understood that the computer would not store it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.
In the second experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the Internet. The information was in an exact computer folder(文件夹). Surprisingly, people later remember the folder location better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. However, they remember how to find it. This is called “transactive memory(交互记忆)”
According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memories; that is, people are learning how to organize a lot of information so that they are able to get it at a later date. This doesn’t mean we are becoming either more or less clever but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.
41. Why does the writer begin the text with two questions?
A. To explain some thoughts. B. To introduce the main topic.
B. To show an opinion. D. To draw the readers' attention.
42. What can we learn from the first experiment?
A. Sparrow put the information into the computer B. Both groups remembered the information well.
C. Group 1 remembered the information faster D. Group 2 remembered the information better.
43. What do we know about transactive memory from the second experiment?
A. People organize the information like a computer. B. People remember how to find the information.
C. People remember how to make a folder. D. People keep the information in mind.
44. What does the underlined word“location” probably mean?
A. Space. B. Square. C. Place. D. Memory.
45. What’s the text written for?
A. Describing the organizing of computers on people’s memory.
B. Introducing the influence of computers on people’s memory.
C. Telling the harm of computers to people’s memory
D. Showing the development of stronger memories.

The Sydney Opera House is one of the most famous landmarks (地标) in Australia. This summer holiday, I got the chance to visit it and find out what makes this building so great.
As our guide told us, the Sydney Opera House was built with a kind of self-cleaning material that is very rare even today.
First, we visited the Drama Hall. We learned about the designer of the Sydney Opera House—Danish architect(建筑师) Jorn Utzon. He was the winner of an international design competition. However, he designed the building according to his own tastes, which caused several problems. The project was completed 10 years late. The cost of construction(建造)was way over budget(预算). Utzon didn’t get to see it after it was built.
Then, we visited Joan Sutherland Theatre. The theater was refurbished (翻新) in 2017 with new high-tech equipment. There was a rehearsal(排练) that day, so we could hear the beautiful sound of the orchestra(管弦乐队). Finally, we arrived at the largest theater-Concert Hall. It has hosted many kinds of performances, from classical to rock music. A few years ago, a sports event was even held there.
Before we finished the tour, the guide told us the rest of Utzon’s story. In 1966, Utzon had an argument with the government and refused to give in. He had to leave the country. It was a hard time in his life. But many years later, people understood him and saw the building as a masterpiece.

People in Western countries are eating less meat these days, whether for their health or because they want to protect animals. But now they have another reason.
Eating less meat can help to prevent climate change according to a study published in Nature.
Raising livestock (家畜) is bad for the environment. When animals like cows digest food, their stomachs make greenhouse gases, which is a major cause of global warming.
Seventeen percent of greenhouse gas emissions (排放) come from livestock farming, The New York Times reported.
In addition, to raise these livestock, people have to cut down forests and turn them into farms. Forests play a key role in fighting global warming because they absorb (吸收) greenhouse gases.
Eating less meat according to certain guidelines could cut global food-related emissions by nearly a third by 2050, the study found. Maintaining (保持) a vegetarian diet in the long term could bring down emissions by 63 percent.
But eating less meat won’t be easy. According to the study, people in Western countries will need to eat 90 percent less meat than they do now. Otherwise, it will have no impact (影响) on our climate. Scientists are trying to find ways to replace meat.
Some say that eating insects could help. A UN report says that eating insects is healthier and better for the environment. They produce 75 percent less greenhouse gas than livestock.
Some experts are creating lab-grown meat. They make meat in a lab using livestock cells(细胞). US company JUST said people in the US might be able to buy its lab-grown meat in the near future.

Do you know how to play a game called "Musical Chairs"? It is easy to play and most people enjoy it. All you need are some chairs, some people and some way of making music. You may use a piano or any other musical instrument, if someone can play it. You may use a tape recorder. You can even use a radio.
Put the chairs in a line. The chairs may be put in twos, back to back. A better way is to have the chairs in one line with each chair facing in the opposite direction to the chair next to it.
The game is easy. When the music starts, the players walk round the chairs. Everyone goes in the same direction, of course, they should walk in time to the music. If the music is fast, they should walk quickly. If the music is slow, they should walk slowly.
The person playing music cannot see the people in the game. When the music stops, the players try to sit on the chairs. If a person cannot find a chair to sit on, he drops out. Then, before the music starts again, one chair must be taken away. When the music stops again, one more player will be out.
