Looking out to the sea, he saw a couple of kids in a rowboat were being pulled out to sea. Two boys, Christian and Jack, rowed (划船) out a boat to search for a football. Once they’d rowed beyond the calm waters, a beach umbrella tied to the boat, caught the wind and pulled the boat into open water. The boys were worried and tried to row back to the beach. But they could not fight against it and the boat was out of control. Tim knew it would soon be swallowed by the waves. Tim took off his clothes and jumped into the water. Every 500 yards or so, he raised his head to judge his progress. “At one point, I considered turning back,” he says. “I wondered if I was putting my life at risk.” After 30 minutes of struggling, he was close enough to call to the boys, “Take down the umbrella! Let’s aim for the pier (码头),” Jack said. Tim turned the boat toward it. Soon, waves crashed over the boat, and it began to sink. “Can you guys swim?” he cried. “A little bit,” the boys said. Once they were in the water, Tim decided it would be safer and faster for him to pull the boys toward the pier. Christian and Jack were wearing life jackets and floated on their backs. Tim swam toward land as water washed over the boys’ faces. “Are we almost there?” they asked again and again. “Yes,” Tim told them each time. After 30 minutes, they reached the pier.26Why did the two boys go to the sea?ATo go boat rowing. BTo get back their football.CTo swim in the open water. DTo test the umbrella as a sail.27What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to?AThe wind. BThe water. CThe boat. DThe beach.28Why did Tim raise his head regularly?ATo take in enough fresh air. BTo consider turning back or not.CTo check how far he was from the boys. DTo ask the boys to take down the umbrella.29Which can be used to describe Tim according to the story?ANaughty but clever. BHelpful and brave. CStrong and creative. DResponsible and honest.BInternational Poetry CompetitionWorld Poetry Day is celebrated on March 21st. I discovered they were the tops or covers of color markers I had kept on the table. The only difference was that someone got those covers and chewed (咀嚼) them into shapelessness. On another part of the table, I saw the color markers dried up without covers. I was almost sure I knew who had done it and I could not understand the reasons behind his actions. As I considered my discovery, my annoyance and anger gradually went away when I remembered that as a child, I did several strange things that must have made my mother mad. I cut our shoes, I chewed pens and pencils, and I wrote and drew pictures on walls and destroyed many things at home. The mind of a child is curious with the spirit of exploration, seeking to understand and test the limits (限制) of many things. Of course, it can be costly, but what is growing up if no mistakes are made? We call it paying the school fees of life. If a child plays with a hot iron and it burns them, it is a given that they will not go near the iron again. Sometimes I watch the children in my neighborhood playing dangerous games. Sometimes I tell them not to do it, but sometimes I let it pass. Children may not want to be told to stop riding as fast as they want until someone has fallen off their bike. A child will not listen when parents ask them to get down from the tree until he has fallen down. However, wisdom shows that if the behavior is deadly, you should stop it in time. Creativity is valuable. And this is why we should encourage children to remain creative rather than just receive everything they have known and seen. Allow children to make mistakes, but this must be followed with supervision (监督), monitoring, and correction.33What happened to the author’s color markers?AThey were stolen. BThey were destroyed.CThey were thrown away. DThey were cleaned by mistake.34How did the writer feel when she thought of her childhood?AShe got very regretful. BShe calmed down.CShe was very angry with herself. DShe was very happy.35What does the author mainly want to show in Paragraph 3?AChildren can learn from their mistakes. BMistakes are unavoidable for children.CChildren often put themselves in danger. DChildren must not be allowed to make any mistakes.36What is the best title?AChildren should be creative. BGrow up through mistakes.CWhat happened to my color markers? DWhy do children make mistakes?DOver the past few decades, children have been taking part less in free play and more in organized sports. While participation (参与) in organized sports has both social and physical benefits (益处) for young children, concerns about safety and benefits increase as participants get younger. Though most children are naturally likely to be physically active, not all kids are willing to get up and move. Soccer coach Joseph Luxbacher says, “Every kid has the potential (潜能) to be a good sportsman in different kinds of sports. Taking part in organized sports such as the school soccer team introduces direction to children’s physical activities. Following a team schedule gives kids a set time and place to exercise. As a result, kids can be safe from accidents and be protected against hurt.”What’s more, taking part in organized sports gives children time to communicate with others and showing good sportsmanship. For young children who may still be very self-centerd, taking part in team sports teaches them to think about the group and encourages them to be happy about the success of their teammates. Kids can also benefit from spending time with their coach and having a chance to develop a positive relationship with an adult other than their parents, especially if the coach is both skilled and devoted to being a positive mentor (导师). Playing organized sports requires a lot of time for practice and games, so it would seem that this could influence students’ study. However, it can ameliorate students’ test performance. That’s because to play organized sports well, players have to memorize information, do repetitive actions, and learn from teammates. All these types of learning skills can make students score higher. Though it can come from many different sources—parents, coaches, teammates or themselves—many children who take part in organized sports feel pressured to succeed. While a little stress can be helpful in leading children to perform with increased focus and strength, too much stress will leave young kids feeling very tired. Organized sports are more likely to put the right amount of pressure on them.37What do Joseph Luxbacher’s words show?AOrganized sports can achieve kids’ potential.BMost children prefer free play to organized sports.COrganized sports can better protect kids from getting hurt.DMost children have a set time and place to exercise.38What is the third paragraph mainly about?AKids can make wise decisions by playing organized sports.BKids can meet better coaches by playing organized sports.CKids can learn social skills by playing organized sports.DKids can better communicate with parents by playing organized sports.39What does the underlined word “ameliorate” mean in Paragraph 4?ADecrease. BRecord. CRecognize. DImprove.40Where is the article probably from?AA soccer coach’s diary.BSports magazine. CEnglish textbook. DA football club poster.第二节  阅读填空(共5小题;每小题1分,满分5分)阅读短文及文后AE选项,选出可以填入4145各题空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑Paying for bus rides with plastic usually makes people think of plastic bus cards.
