That your kids are learning at home doesn’t mean you don’t have time to take them on field trips. When you can’t get away, your kids can still travel by taking virtual field trips. We have prepared our list of favorites to help you keep your kids engaged and entertained.
AirPano
AirPano has a variety of tours in China, Portugal, Switzerland and more countries. Children can visit Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge in China, an underwater cave in Indonesia, ski resorts in France, and more destinations around the globe. This 45-minute tour of Will-O-Crest Farm in New York state walks through every step of work on the farm. It shows how calves are housed, how cow are milked and everything in between. The video is hosted by a narrator with a live instructor (employee) from the farm onsite.
Yellowstone
Yellowstone offers seven virtual tours appropriate for school ages. There’s a lot of written information along with the images, and the tours aren’t in video. However, the information is fascinating, and the photos are wonderful. These tours are a great way for kids to discover unique facts about America.
Slime (粘液) in Space
What happens to slime when it’s in space? That’s the concept behind the Slime in Space virtual field trip. Featuring real astronauts and celebrities (名人), the 15-minute video shows kids how slime and water react in a microgravity environment. Composer George Lam has always liked writing music inspired by places.
“There are all these places in Chinatown that are both hidden and meaningful” he says stepping out of the way of passers-by while leading a tour of the neighborhood. “To uncover some of those hidden things in a city walk that you might not ordinarily notice—l wondered. is there a piece in that?”
It turns out that there’s not just a piece but a whole app Lam interviewed five Chinese Americans from around the country; asking them about their experiences in Chinatown: plus questions about their ancestors. their families and their memories. He then set the answers to music the instruments drawing attention to each person’s distinct pattern of speech.
Lam created the app Family Association. He calls the piece—the free app—Family Association, after the important folk groups that line the streets of the neighborhood Chinese family associations have been a bridge between new immigrants and more established ones since the late 1800s. In Chinatowns across the country they’re a place to find resources or an apartment, talk business or polities, maybe get a COVID shot. But they’re also a place to socialize with people who share similar experiences.
Five of the neighborhood’s associations are anchors (锚点) for the app. Visitors use the build-in map to see locations of the associations. As they walk closer to one of the family association buildings, the focus is on one of the five oral history participants, telling their stories. These stories aren’t about the family associations instead they’re about the Chinese-American experience and how they’ve felt supported by Chinatown.
But Lam thinks of the app itself as a kind of virtual family association. connecting these Chinese-American voices with each other, even if they’ve never met. And he hopes to connect with visitors too—at the end of the soundwalk, users are given a chance to record their own memories.
4. How did Lam deal with the interviewees’ answers?
A. By setting them apart. B. By organizing them in order.
C. By adding music to them. D. By spreading them nationwide
5. What can we know from paragraph 4?
A. Chinatown plays a vital role in Chinese-Americans.
B. Lam named his app after the street of the neighbourhood.
C. All Chinese Americans lived in Chinatowns when firstly reaching America.
D. Chinese family associations have been a bridge of immigrants since 1800.
6. What are the participants’ stories about?
A. When they came to Chinatowns. B. Why they chose to stay in Chinatowns.
C. How they’ve felt supported from China. D. What they experienced as Chinese Americans
7. What is Lam’s expectation?
A. To promote his new app. B. To associate with visitors
C. To record his own memories. D. To connect with Chinese Americans

Electricity has started flowing from the Hornsea 2 wind farm, which will become the world’s largest offshore wind farm when it is complete. Located in the ocean off the UK’s east coast, it is unlikely to hold the title long, however. The expansion of onshore wind has flattened out, but offshore is in the rapid growth phase, and some huge projects are under development and consideration.
When complete, Hornsea 2 will consist of 165 wind turbines (涡轮机), each with a peak capacity of 8 MW. At 1,320 MW, Hornsea 2 will take the title of world’s largest from the neighboring Homsea 1, which has smaller but more numerous turbines, for a total capacity of 1,218 MW.
The project came in the fortuitous-timing. The possibility that limitations in gas supply and a cold winter could seriously disturb electricity networks in the UK, causing anxiety for months. Even a small part of Hornsea’s eventual production will help reduce that danger. On its first morning, it contributed to almost 50 percent of Britain’s electricity.
Meanwhile, the development coincides (类似) with China’s largest offshore wind farm, Jiangsu Qidong, which reached full operation a day later. At a total of 802 MW, Jiangsu Qidong is behind either Hornsea stage, but it is twice the size of the existing offshore wind farm outside Europe. North American wind farms usually standardize with a single size of turbine, but Jiangsu Qidong uses seven models.
Neither Hornsea nor Jiangsu Qidong compares to the giant wind farms being developed by Denmark and South Korea, and the more potential giant off Iceland. Even before those come to fruition, Hornsea’s third stage—with 2,400 MW soon to start construction—will leave them well behind.
Even with operations beginning at these wind farms, offshore wind accounts for less than 10 percent of global wind production. It’s also currently more expensive. However, prices are falling faster for offshore, as turbines get larger and experience grows. It is anticipated that the next round of UK wind farms, instead of requiring subsidies (补贴), will return money to the public.
8. What is Britain trying to do to provide more energy recently?
A. Expand more onshore wind power farms.
B. Produce more electricity from fossil fuels.
C. Develop wind power from the land to the sea.
D. Build the world’s largest turbine off the coast.
9. What does the words “in the fortuitous—timing” mean in paragraph 3?
A. At a high speed. B. In a wide range.
C. At the right moment. D. Ahead of schedule.
10. How is the passage mainly developed?
A. By making comparisons. B. By following time order.
C. By listing some statistics. D. By giving some examples.
11. What is the author’s attitude toward the offshore wind farms?
A. Skeptical. B. Tolerant. C. Favorable. D. Objective.
D
Clothes were once used until they fell apart. Not today. In high-income countries in particular, clothing and footwear are increasingly frequently bought, thrown away and replaced with new fashions, which are themselves soon thrown away and replaced.
The so-called ‘Fast fashion’ is having a surprising environmental impact. ‘Take water. The fashion industry, one of the world’s largest users of water, consumes anywhere from 20 trillion to 200 trillion litres every year. ‘Then there are microplastics. Plastic fibres are released when we wash polyester (聚酯纤维) and other polymer-based textiles, and make up between 20% and 35% of themicro plastics choking the oceans. Added to this are specific chemicals, such as those used to make fabrics stain resistant and the pesticides required to protect crops such as cotton.
Change is badly needed, but will require the fashion industry to work harder to embrace more of what is known as the circular economy. That will involve at least two things: refocusing on making things that last, and so encouraging reuse; and more rapidly expanding the technologies for sustainable manufacturing processes, especially recycling. There’s a big role for research--both academic and industrial--in achieving these and other ambitions.
Researchers could begin by helping to provide more accurate estimates of water use. There is also work to be done on improving and expanding textiles recycling. Undoubtedly, used textiles go to landfill in part because there are relatively few systems that collect, recycle and reuse materials. Such recycling requires the manual separation of fibres, as well as buttons and zips. Different fibres are not easy to identify by eye, and overall such manual processes are time-consuming. Machinery is being developed that can help. Technologies also exist to recycle used fibres chemically and to create high -quality fibres that can be reused in clothing. But these are nowhere near the scale needed.
Another challenge for researchers is to work out how to get consumers and manufacturers to change their behaviour. Other research questions include finding ways to encourage people to purchase long lasting goods; exploring how to satisfy desires for something new while reducing environmental impact; and understanding why certain measures can be successfully scaled up whereas others fail.
12. Why does the author mention “water”, “microplastics” and “chemicals” in Paragraph 2?
A. To list examples. B. To prove a point.
C. To provide an idea. D. To give a definition.
13. Which of the following goes against the concept of “circular economy”?
A. Efforts are made to lengthen the lifespan of textiles.
B. Worn-out clothes are used as dishcloths and oil rags.
C. High-quality fibres are created to be reused in clothing.
D. Fashion industry is encouraged to release new lines more often.
14. What is the right thing for the fashion industry researchers to do?
A. To make sure that all of the used textiles go to landfill.
B. To separate fibres, as well as buttons and zips manually.
C. To improve and expand textile recycling to a larger extent.
D. To encourage consumers to satisfy their desires for fashion.
15. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A. Say no to the so-called fast fashion. B. Address the challenges for researchers
C. Embrace more of the circular economy. D. Cut fast fashion’s environmental impact

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On the Friday after Thanksgiving, the busiest shopping day of the year, I went for breakfast in downtown Little Rock.
Even at 8 a. m. there was a waiting line at the cafe. Customers stood in groups, chatting and rubbing their cold hands together, waiting to share a hot breakfast and more conversation before pouring into the stores for bargains. I could feel the cheery excitement of the holidays, but it was tied with the usual stress that spoils the season with layers of anxiety and tiredness.
Finally, I was seated by a large window. I noticed that it had begun to rain lightly outside. “Oh, no,” I complained. “I’m going to be dashing around in the rain. Shopping will be messy today!” I heard others complaining, too.
Then, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed an elderly man on the other side of the window, making his way carefully down the sidewalk. He was carrying a black umbrella in his left hand, sheltering himself from the rain, and balancing several brooms (扫帚) on his right shoulder. Beneath a thin gray coat, he was dressed in a brown pants. A striped ski cap protected his head and thick glasses covered his eyes. As I watched, he smiled and stepped politely aside to allow a couple to rush by.
“Who’s that?” I asked the waitress.
“That’s Melvin. He’s been walking these streets for years and years. I’ve heard he put several orphans through college selling those brooms. He’s almost blind and in his seventies, but he keeps on keeping on. I don’t know how he does it. Everybody buys brooms from him. He lives a poor life but he was a wonderful person. People here have always been good to him.”
Suddenly I was curious. This dear man could hardly see. Selling brooms on the streets could not earn good money. Melvin was the one who needed help! “So how do he help people?” I asked frankly.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Just then Melvin walked slowly into the restaurant.
