Studying at a girls’ school, we seldom see boys. But in September, we got a chance to dance and talk with boys.
In the morning, all of the girls discussed this activity. But when the boys came, we stopped at once. After a welcome speech, the first activity took place: find a boy partner and learn five things about each other.
At first, the situation was so strange that nobody moved. Gradually, some people started talking.
“Would you like to be my partner?” the boy next to me said.
“Sure,” I replied.
We stood together and asked each other questions like “What’s your name?” after we took the first step, the rest was easier.
To my surprise, we had a lot of interests in common. We both like British singer Ed Sheeran. Also, English is our favorite subject.
The most exciting part was dancing. The teacher taught boys and girls separately (分别地), we all smiled and studied hard. The lesson didn’t last long, as we had to practice with our partners.
To be honest, it was my first time to hold a boy’s hands. I made many mistakes even with the simplest steps, but my partner never blamed me.
My hands got sweaty (出汗), my partner said, “Don’t be nervous. I will lead you.” his palms were big and warm, I began to calm down and enjoy dancing.
At the dance, we built good relationships with the boys and our teachers encouraged to do so. I really like this type of activity.

They say that “travel is the best teacher” and there is no better example of this idea than the Ming dynasty travel writer and geographer Xu Xiake (1587-1641). His book The Travel Notes of Xu Xiake not only encourages a love of travelling among Chinese people but provides important scientific information about the country’s land and geography.
Born into a wealthy Jiangyin family, Xu became interested in books about different places at an early age and wanted to travel. When he was 18, however, Xu’s father died and so, it seemed impossible for his travelling dreams. He then started managing the family farm and taking care of his 60-year-old mother as tradition required.
But his mother had different ideas. Understanding her son’s love of travel and valuing the knowledge he could get from such experiences, this modern-thinking woman refused to keep her son at home. She agreed that Xu could travel for three months every year, when there was less farm work.
So at the age of twenty and with his mother’s support, Xu set off for the first time, leaving behind not only his mother but his new wife as well. He would repeat this goodbye each year for most of the next 30 years. During this time, he travelled throughout the Ming kingdom, carefully studying the lands he passed through and recording his experiences and many discoveries in a diary. This diary, which once had over 500, 000 words, would become The Travel Notes of Xu Xiake later.
Although rich, Xu avoided comfortable travel, preferring to go almost everywhere on foot. This way he could research the environment in detail and get a true picture of the natural world. Many of his trips were to hard-to-reach mountain areas, and through wild forests where few people lived. However, his willingness to face hardships came at a cost. Progress was slow and tiring and he was frequently sick, robbed and beaten during his journeys.
Sadly, Xu became seriously ill during his last and longest journey, a 4-year trip through the southwest of China. He died in 1641, soon after returning to his hometown for the last time. When his diary was finally printed years after he passed away, much of it had been destroyed (毁坏) or lost. Although incomplete, it still made Xu a travelling legend (传奇) around the world.
27.What is the passage mainly about?
A.The general details of Xu Xiake’s life story.
B.The difficulties Xu Xiake faced in his travels.
C.The important discoveries made by Xu Xiake.
D.The influence of Xu’s book The Travel Notes of Xu Xiake.
28.Which of the following best describes Xu’s mother?
A.Strict but interesting. B.Kind but uneducated.
C.Helpful and hardworking. D.Supportive and open-minded.
29.What is the correct order for the following events from Xu’s life?
a. He went on his first journey.
b. His book was finally printed.
c. He returned to his hometown for the last time.
d. He developed an interest in books about other places.
e. He started managing the family farm after his father died.

Robotic surgery is one thing, but sending a robot inside the body to carry out an operation quite another, which has long been a goal of some researchers to produce tiny robotic devices being capable of traveling through the body to deliver drugs or to make repairs without the need for a single cut. The possibility of which has just got a bit closer.
However, unlike the plot of one film—which featured a microscopic crew and submarine traveling through a scientist’s bloodstream—this device could not be inserted into blood vessels(管) because it is too big. While other types of miniature swallowable robots have been developed in the past, their role has mostly been limited to capturing images inside the body. In a presentation this week to the International Conference, Daiela Rus and Shuhei Miyashita of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology described a robot they have developed that can be swallowed and used to collect dangerous objects accidentally taken in.
To test their latest version, Dr Rus and Dr Miyashita designed a robot as a battery hunter, which might seem to be an odd task, but more than 3, 500 people in America alone, most of them children, swallow the tiny button cells used in small electronic devices by accident every year. To start with, the researchers created an artificial esophagus(食道) and stomach made out of silicone(硅胶). It was closely modeled on that found in a pig and filled with medical liquid; the robot itself is made from several layers of different materials, including pig intestine (肠), and contains a little magnet. This is folded up and encased in a 10 mm×27 mm capsule of ice. Once this reaches the stomach the ice melts and the robot unfolds which is moved and guided with the use of a magnetic field outside the body. In their tests, the robot was able to touch a button battery and draw it with its own magnet, and during dragging it along, the robot could then be directed towards the intestines where it would eventually be gotten rid of through the anus(肛门). After it, the researchers sent in another robot loaded with medication to deliver it to the site of the battery bum to speed up healing.
The artificial stomach being transparent on one side, the researchers were able to see the batteries and visually control the robots. If not, that will require help with the help from imaging system, which will be a bit more of a challenge, but Dr Rus and Dr Miyashita are determined to succeed.
30.According to the passage, the robot operation will probably be able to ________.
A.travel through a scientist’s bloodstream
B.photograph the body to convey to the doctor
C.enter the body to deliver drugs or make repairs
D.operate on a person outside the body completely
31.We learn from Paragraph 3 that ________.
A.the researchers did the experiment on a chosen animal
B.the robot took necessary drugs besides a little magnet
C.digesting the swallowed batteries is difficult for children
D.the actual size of the robot may be larger than the capsule of ice
32.What may the experiment mean to the medical world?
A.The surgeries will cost patients much money.
B.Patients will suffer less for some surgeries.
C.Fewer children will swallow the button cells.
D.A robot will be invented travelling blood vessels.
33.Which can be the most suitable title for the passage?
A.An Experiment on Robot
B.Tiny Robot, Significant Role
C.The Fantastic Robotic Voyage
D.The Exploration of Robot Technology

例文
In today’s English class, we had a discussion about different ways to go travelling. Here are the results.
Some student choose to travel with a group. With a guide’s help, they won’t get lost and they don’t need to look for hotels or restaurants by themselves. Besides, they can make friends and help each other while travelling. However, other students prefer to travel alone. That’s because they can arrange their time freely and choose to visit their favourite sights. What’s more, it’s a chance for them to learn to look after themselves.
For me, I’d like to travel alone. I want to spend enough time visiting the places I like. In this way, I can enjoy my vacation better.

例文:
Hello, boys and girls. Today I would like to share my favorite story Tom Sawyer Paints the Fence with you. It is written by Mark Twain.
The story takes place one afternoon in a town. Tom is required to paint the 3-yard-long fence by Aunt Polly. It is such hard work that Tom actually isn’t able to complete it. So he thinks of an idea. When his friend passes by, Tom pretends to enjoy painting the fence and it is great fun to do it. His friend becomes interested and asks Tom for a try. Later on, more boys are tricked into painting the fence and even offer their food and toys. At last, the fence gets 3 coats of paint. For Tom, he wins Aunt Polly’s praise and his friends’ toys and food as well.
In my opinion, the story is so interesting and enjoyable that is worth reading.
