It was deep int the night many years ag. The rain just came puring dwn utside. An elderly man and his wife entered the lbby (大厅) f a small htel in Philadelphia, USA.[悬念1]
Trying t get ut f the rain, the cuple apprached the frnt desk hping t get a rm t stay in fr the night.
“Culd yu pssibly give us a rm here？” the husband asked.
The clerk, a friendly yung man with a winning smile, lked at the cuple and explained that there were three cnferences in the twn. “All f ur rms are taken，” the clerk said. “But I can't send a nice cuple like yu ut int the rain at ne 'clck at night. Wuld yu perhaps be willing t sleep in my rm? It's nt exactly a suite, but it will be gd enugh t make yu cmfrtable fr the night.”
When the cuple declined, the yung man pressed n. “Dn't wrry abut me. I'll make ut just fine，” the clerk tld them. S the cuple agreed.
As he paid his bill the next mrning, the elderly man said t the clerk, “Yu are the kind f manager wh shuld be the bss f the best htel. Maybe smeday I'll build ne fr yu.[悬念2]”
The clerk lked at them and smiled. The three f them had a gd laugh. As they drve away, the elderly cuple agreed that the helpful clerk was indeed exceptinal, as finding peple wh are bth friendly and helpful isn't easy.
Three years passed. The clerk had almst frgtten the thing when he received a letter frm the elderly man. It recalled that strmy night, when he ffered his kind help t the elderly cuple. In the envelpe, there was a rundtrip ticket t New Yrk, and a letter asking the yung man t pay them a visit. The yung man decided t set ut immediately.[悬念3]

三、分析段落开头语

He then pinted t a great new building there. “That，” said the elderly man, “is the htel I have just built fr yu. I hpe yu can take charge f it.” Thus, the yung clerk became the first manager f the htel. But he had never expected the turn f events that wuld lead him t becme the manager f ne f the wrld's mst famus htels.
