One steamy July afternoon in central Arkansas, my house caught fire unfortunately. I was lost for words to describe the feeling of seeing my home going up in flames. But the panic that filled my shocked heart in that awful moment was for the nine cats that shared my home after being rescued from abandonment.
The firefighters arrived in time, but the smoke had already caused deaths. I examined and kissed each cat goodbye, extremely grateful that they had passed away gently, without injuries or burns. After staying with a friend for weeks, I was relocated to a furnished apartment. One evening I was occupied in writing a mystery novel when a “meow” sounded from outside the apartment door. Was it my mind playing tricks again? More than once I had heard, seen or felt the brush of one of my departed furry roommates. The meow grew louder. Curious, I opened the door.
Sitting on the doorstep was a kitten(小猫)with a black coat and alert eyes. A neighbor picked him up and began petting him. When I remarked how cute her kitten was, she explained that he had been born under a bridge and looked around for food. This kitty-loving neighbor then asked if I was interested in giving him a home. My immediate reaction was a seemingly humorous “that’s all I need!“ After all. my determination had been well reasoned and remained firm. But without hesitation she put the adorable kitten down. I thanked her, determined to just let him stay until a real home could be found.
That night, as I slid between the sheets of the bed in the still unfamiliar apartment, the energetic little fur ball jumped onto the bed yawned dramatically, and nestled by my side.
That was the first night since the fire that I actually slept. Needless to say, the cat community knew the precise treatment for healing far better than I. The name Starlight (Star for short) just occurred to me because that night he brought some light back into my life.
In the five years since the fire, we have been through a lot, Starlight and I. We returned to the house, managed to keep the business alive, brought the mystery novel to the final edits before it’s submitted in the hope of publication. Star helped me through a massive, yet untraditional, healing of spirit. The memories of the kitties that passed away in the fire now spark only warmth in my heart and win some smiles. Every single day. I appreciate the serendipitous(有意外收获的)nature of the Universe that sent me hope in the form of a little black fur ball.
So take a little advice from my furry friend: no matter how hopeless things may become or how fixed your resolution may be, open the door whenever opportunity knocks. It just might be a star to light your way.

Many of us seem to have lives that follow a certain path. From kindergarten all the way to marriage, every stage of our lives seems to be preset. Although this works well for many people, according to British motivational philosopher Jay Shetty, there is no “right” schedule to live our lives by.
A few months ago, a video of Shetty’s speech Before You Feel Pressure went viral on the Internet across the world. In the video, he sends an important message that we should think “outside of the path” and have the courage to follow our hearts. Shetty adds that, we don’t have to get stressed and put ourselves in a race with our peers or judge our lives based on others. Everything in life happens according to our time, our clocks.
In his inspiring speech, Shetty points out that UK author J. K. Rowling got her famous Harry Potter series published at age 32, after being turned down by 12 publishers. Shetty also mentions that Chinese businessman Jack Ma didn’t even start the Alibaba Group until he was 35 and US actor Morgan Freeman didn’t get his big break until he was 52 years old.
We shouldn’t let anyone rush us. As Albert Einstein once said, “Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that’s counted truly counts. ”
The key to staying on our own tracks is to be patient and embrace our own passions. In Australian nurse Bronnie Ware’s best-selling book, she recorded the regrets of her dying patients, and the top one on the list was, “I wish l had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the one others expected of me.” Indeed, we are all unique in our personalities and gifts, and there’s no perfect fit for all. We should listen to our inner voices and unlearn what the world has taught us.
“It is important to allow people to go back to being self-aware of their own interests, needs and concerns”, Shetty told National Geographic. “It’s disconnecting from what ‘makes sense’ to what actually moves you and what makes sense internally.”
9.What is many people’s life path like according to Paragraph 1?
    A.It suits everyone fine.
    B.It is preset by parents.
    C.It includes two major stages.
D.It seems to be a fixed pattern.
10.What does Shetty want to convey in the video?
    A.Run your own race.
    B.Follow the preset path.
    C.Think outside the box.
    D.Integrate our ideas with others’.
11.How does Shetty prove his idea in Paragraph 3?
    A.By using quotes.
    B.By giving examples.
    C.By making comparison.
    D.By analyzing figures.
12.Which statement does the author most probably agree with?
    A.Accept what others teach us.
B.Stick to our own internal thoughts.
C.Live up to others’ expectations of us.
D.Reflect on what we undergo in our life.

A broken heart. A sad ending to a love affair. That’s something most of us have experienced, or probably will. The experience can be destructive. You might find yourself listening more to sad music, hoping it can resonate with your feelings of disappointment, and you’ll never heal (治愈) from your broken heart.
You might go through a strong feeling of sorrow, as in Neil Young’s “Only Love Can Break Your Heart”, or the pain of a lyric from Bob Dylan’s “Love Sick”: “I’m sick of love. I wish. I’d never met you.”
But research shows listening to sad music can help you begin to feel joy and hopefulness about your life again. Sad music can help heal and uplift you from your broken heart. Or, from any negative, disappointing life situation. It can activate empathy (共情) and the desire to reach out for others — both pathways out of the prison of heartache and hopelessness.
A recent study from Germany found the emotional impact of listening to sad music can lift the feelings of empathy, compassion, and a desire for positive connection with others. That, itself, is psychologically healing. It draws you away from anxiety with yourself, and possibly towards helping others in need of comfort.
Another experiment, from the University of Kent, found that when people were experiencing sadness, listening to music that was “beautiful but sad” excited their mood. In fact, it did so when the person first consciously understood the situation causing their sadness before beginning to listen to the sad music. That is, when they intended that the sad music might help, they found that it did. But that wasn’t true if they just listened to sad music without first thinking about the sad situation.
Then, you may be answering the question raised in the old Bee Gees’ song, “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?”

C.Showing empathy does good both mentally and physically
D.Sad songs can benefit people with the intention of lifting spirits.
16.Which is a suitable title for the text?

C.Why is sad music so popular? D.When can we turn to others for help?

Deciduous forests(落叶林) are home to many wild animals. The development and expansion of human presence in the forests has caused many of their native species to become endangered.
    Giant Panda
The giant panda, one of the most recognizable endangered species, is a large, docile species of bear native to the deciduous forest of eastern China Myanmar and Vietnam because of its limited diet--the panda’s main source of food is bamboo--the species is limited in its habitat to areas where bamboo is available. Now the species only can be found today in 20small patches of forest at the western edge of its historic range.
    Gray and red wolves
The gray wolf, which once ranged from the East Coast of America to the west, and south to Mexico, now has a population of only 5,000 in the lower 48 states, mostly in the Rocky Mountains. The smaller red wolf, native to the southeastern United States, was declared extinct in the wild in 1980, though conservation efforts have reintroduced small captive populations to the wild in California.
    Red-Crowned crane
The red -crowned crane is native to Japan, Korea and eastern China. Agricultural expansion and deforestation in these areas have removed a great deal of the marshes and forests that are the crane’s primary habitats. For a time, the crane was thought to have completely disappeared from Japan, but the recent discovery of cranes in Japanese marshlands has restarted conservation efforts. Today, around 2,500 cranes live in the wild, including 1,000 in Japan.
    European Mink
Native to Europe, the European mink ranges from France in the west to Finland in the north, Russia in the cast and the Balkans in the south. Destruction of the mink habitat and use of the species for fur have caused dramatic drops in the species’ population, which has been reduced by 85 percent since the mid-19th century.

Civilization began with agriculture, and though humanity has changed significantly, agriculture remains very important. In certain countries, its significance is more apparent, but the reality is that every country in the world depends on agriculture for one thing or another.
It provides employment. Whether it’s working as a farmer, a harvester, a technician for farm equipment or a scientist, there are plenty of jobs available in this field. In developing countries, agricultural jobs help reduce high rates of unemployment.
It’s crucial to a country’s development. Economic development is tied to a country’s agricultural sector. When trade, national avenue, and employment are combined in a positive way, a country enjoys reduced poverty and boosted economic growth. Because strong agriculture results in benefits fairly quickly, focusing on it is one of the best ways to speed up development and improve a country’s standing across the globe.
It drives innovation in technology. Because healthy agriculture is so essential to a country’s well-being, it’s been the setting of some of the most exciting innovations in technology. Through artificial intelligence, blockchain software, and more, scientists and farmers have been figuring out ways to increase crop productivity, use less water, and reduce negative impacts on the environment. For scientists and tech companies, agribusiness is one of the most fascinating and productive fields to work in.
It’s the source of our food supply. Arguably, the most important aspect of agriculture is that it’s the source of the world’s food supply. No matter where or what you are eating, the ingredients in your meals come from somewhere. All roads lead to agriculture. In countries dealing with food insecurity and severe malnutrition, their agricultural sectors are suffering. When agriculture thrives(蓬勃发展), fewer people go hungry.
It can help heal the environment. Agriculture possesses the power to cause harm or heal. When farmers prioritize biodiversity on their land, it benefits the earth. Having more biodiversity results in healthier soil, better water conservation, and healthier pollinators(传粉者).

China’s fertility (生育) rate is on a downward trend and the average family size has been shrinking over the years, a senior official said on Saturday, calling for comprehensive measures to encourage marriage and childbearing.
Data shows that there was 2.62 people per family in China in 2020, down by 0.48 from 2010, according to Wang Pei’an, deputy director of the China Family Planning Association.
“Currently, the perspective on marriage and starting a family among young generations is changing, and the trend toward having smaller families is becoming more obvious,” he remarked at the third China Population and Development Forum held in Beijing.
The shift has resulted in delays in marriage, having children and even a resistance of such rituals, which he said is the primary reason for China’s declining fertility level.
A survey shows that women planned to have 1.64 babies in 2021, down from 1.76 in 2017. For people born in the 1990s and 2000s, their ideal number of babies was only 1.54 and 1.48 respectively.
Furthermore, the percentage of women who have no children over their lifetime increased from 6.1 percent in 2015 to 10 percent in 2020.
“A survey shows that less than 70 percent of women aged 35 and under agree that a life with children is complete,” he said, adding that given the low fertility rate in China, it would be extremely difficult to raise the fertility without strengthened efforts to foster a longing for marriage and family.
Wang suggested devoting more efforts to the promotion of getting married and having children at proper ages and sharing family responsibilities between men and women.
He also called for advancing flexible working hours, and developing nursery care and elderly care industries.
He added that a range of policies from household registration and employment rules to medical insurance and social security regulations should be geared toward “protecting marriages and families.”

Bryan Caplan, an economics professor at George Mason University (GMU), said the progress ChatGPT made — it improved is score from a D to an A on his economics test in just three months — has shocked him.
Writing in a blog post, Caplan said he gave ChatGPT questions which test students’ understanding of economics rather than complete what are essentially memory exercises. It’s here where the old version of ChatGPT tipped up. The bot scored 31 out of a possible 100 on his test, similar to a D and well below his 50% median (中位数).
Caplan told Insider that the bot failed to understand basic concepts. “ChatGPT does a fine job of imitating a very weak GMU econ student,” Caplan wrote in his January blog post.
He isn’t the only academic that ChatGPT has disappointed. While it passed a Wharton Business School exam in January, its professor said it made “surprising mistakes” on simple calculations (计算).
But when ChatGPT-4 was released, its progress shocked Caplan. It scored 73% on the same midterm test, similar to an A and among the best scores in his class.
For Caplan, the improvements were obvious. The bot gave clear answers to his questions, understanding and explaining principles it previously struggled with. Caplan thought ChatGPT’s training data might have picked up his previous blog post where he explained his answers, but colleagues told him this was highly unlikely. He added that he’s already fed the bot new tests it hadn’t seen before, where it did even better than its previous 73% grade.
AI bots have caused headaches for examiners. Professors told Insider that plagiarism (抄袭) can be hard to prove with material from ChatGPT because there is no material evidence of wrongdoing.
Caplan said he’s thinking of doing away with graded homework with the rise of ChatGPT. He hopes his habit of regularly changing questions will be enough to stop students from learning and copying ChatGPT’s responses in exam settings.
31.Which of the following abilities do Caplan’s questions test?
    A.Memorizing facts. B.Writing essays.
    C.Understanding concepts. D.Solving maths problems.
32.How was ChatGPT’s performance on Caplan’s economics test after the release of ChatGPT-4?
A.It was satisfying. B.It was perfect.
C.It was disappointing. D.It was below average.
33.What can we learn about ChatGPT from Paragraph 6?
A.Is training data is limited. B.It writes blog posts for Caplan.
C.It struggles to understand basic concepts. D.It can probably improve its performance.
34.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.The impact of AI bots on education.
B.The benefits of changing questions regularly.
C.Potential application of ChatGPT in education.
D.A possible solution to a problem caused by ChatGPT.

“Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee.” Captain Ahab’s dying declaration of defiance (抗争) is among the most famous passages in Herman Melville’s novel.
In reality, such victories of the hunted over the hunter were a fantasy in the cruel world of industrial whaling. The biggest cetacean of them all, the blue whale, had all but disappeared from the Southern Ocean by the time a ban on hunting it was introduced in 1967.
Sightings of the largest mammal ever to live on the earth had been rare in the region since then. Not any more. A survey of coastal waters around the island of South Georgia in the sub-Antarctic has had remarkable results.
In just over three weeks, in the krill-rich waters of what was once their main feeding ground, the movements of 55 Antarctic blues were recorded by the British Antarctic Survey. The finding was described as “truly, truly amazing” by one cetacean specialist. It suggests that when a comprehensive audit (审计), due in 2021, is carried out, there is a good chance that the species will prove to be in full recovery mode, as are humpbacks and other whales in the southern hemisphere.
Three years ago, the Natural History Museum established a 25m skeleton (骨架) of a blue whale and named it Hope, intending to inspire new generations to build a sustainable future.
The return of the world’s most splendid ocean travellers to southern waters should serve as an example for wider possibilities of conservation. Ecological wrongs can be righted, or at least mitigated, with sufficient will and organisations.
The more general comeback of the whale - for which environmental campaigners should take a great deal of credit — can be an inspiration for victories yet to be won. It could also act as an added motivation to action on the climate emergency.
35.What’s the author’s purpose of mentioning the famous passage in Herman Melville’s novel?
A.To describe a hunters’ bravery. B.To introduce the topic of the text.
C.To stress the popularity of the novel. D.To offer information about whale hunting.

B.To show the unkindness of whale hunters.
C.To motivate humans to live harmoniously with nature.
D.To call on people to pay attention to the blue whales’ habitat.
37.What does the underlined word “mitigated” in paragraph 6 probably mean?
    A.Developed. B.Promoted. C.Reduced. D.Solved.
38.What’s the best title of the text?
A.The blue whales’ comeback B.The cruelty of industrial whaling
C.The importance of protecting whales D.The sustainable development of the Antarctic area

Kangaroos can communicate with humans, according to a new study. The report is the first research of this kind to be done on marsupials — a type of mammal whose young get carried in pouches (育儿袋) on their mother’s body. It suggests kangaroos are cleverer than previously thought.
Researchers from the University of Roehampton in the UK and the University of Sydney in Australia tested kangaroos at three locations — the Australian Reptile Park, Wildlife Sydney Zoo and Kangaroo Protection Co-operative. The scientists put food in a box that the kangaroos could not open, and waited to see what the animals would do.
Rather than giving up, 10 out of the 11 kangaroos actively looked at the person who had put the food in the box and then looked at the box. The researchers said this could be interpreted as the kangaroos requesting help to open the container.
Dr Alexandra Green, a co-author of the study, told The Guardian newspaper that some of the kangaroos actually approached the person and started scratching and sniffing them, then looked back at the box. “So they were really trying to communicate,” Green said.
This behaviour is not uncommon in animals. However, it is usually only seen in domesticated animals. Domesticated means animals that have been bred (饲养) to live alongside people, such as pets or farm animals. The lead author of the study, Dr Alan McElligott, explained, “Through this study, we were able to see that communication between animals can be learnt and that the behaviour of looking at humans to access food is not related to domestication.”
“Indeed, kangaroos showed a very similar pattern of behaviour we have seen in dogs, horses and even goats, when put to the same test,” he added.
It is hoped that the study will give people a more positive attitude towards kangaroos, which are sometimes seen as pests that damage farmers’ crops.
39.Why did the kangaroos look at the person and then the box?
A.They were curious. B.They were asking for help.
C.They were confused by the box. D.They were playing with the person.
40.What does Dr Alan McElligott say about kangaroos’ behavior?
A.It is only seen in wild animals.
B.It has nothing to do with domestication.
C.It sets kangaroos apart from other animals.
D.It can only be learned by domesticated animals.
41.What purpose is the study expected to serve?
    A.Protecting farmers’ crops from kangaroos.
B.Calling on people to protect kangaroos.
C.Changing the way people see kangaroos.
    D.Encouraging people to domesticate kangaroos.
42.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.How kangaroos access food B.Why Kangaroos are our friends
C.Kangaroos can “talk” to us D.Kangaroos are cleverer than we thought

In the 19th century, three pioneering women struggled to find their place in a male-controlled field. Elizabeth Blackwell, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson and Sophia Jex-Blake—among the first female doctors—are the heroines of Olivia Campbell’s new book. The story is lively and interesting, and the main characters are full of personality and individualism. Jex-Blake is described as “big and confident, a determined educational reformer with large eyes and an even lager personality”. Garrett Anderson, referred to as “Lizzie” throughout, was equally determined but also educated, and polite. The result is a great read for anyone looking for an introduction to the history of medical women.
The biographies of the three women are woven into a bigger, grander story about medicine in the 19th century and it is slow and unwilling acceptance of female physicians (医师). Though British, Blackwell attended medical school in the US. “Lizzie” was admitted to the medical school only via a loophole (漏洞) in the admissions policy. And Jex-Blake’s attempt to sit a medical exam in Edinburgh was met with a storm of protest.
Unsurprisingly, the three heroines faced many difficulties, but their efforts finally proved successful. Women in White Coats is, therefore, a successful tale of social progress. The final concluding chapter paints a sunny picture of present-day equality within the medical profession. However, in its efforts to tell an inspiring story, the book glosses over continuing problems within the profession today. Though more women than men now graduate from medical school, they face struggles with career progression and sexism.
We need more books that don’t offer a “great white men” approach to history. However, they have to deal with the incomplete and uneven nature of progress. Inspiring as it is to read stories of heroines tying hard and succeeding against the odds, that isn’t the whole picture. Medicine might be better for women now than in the past, but the problems of the Victorian era continue to exist and we still have far to go.

In a strawberry field surrounded by strawberry fields on the outskirts of Santa Maria, a pair of robots have been picking berries all summer.
Each robot, made by a Colorado company called Tortuga AgTech, rolls in the field on wheels, then stops in front of a plant. A mechanical arm operates its sensor among the leaves; machine vision software scans the sensor data in search of ripe berries. If an unripe berry is in the way, the robot repositions for a better angle. As nipper-grabber (夹爪) mounted in the middle of the sensors stretches to cut the berry’s stem (茎), then cautiously places it in awaiting plastic container at the robot’s base.
Tortuga’s robots are designed to pick strawberries from plants grown on hydroponic (水培的) tabletops, not the ground shadberries. The tabletop system enables Tortuga’s strawberry robots to work by making berms cower to be poked up with robotic arms and protecting the robots from direct exposure to the elements.
Since hitting this field last spring, the robots are on their way to picking nearly as many berries as human pickers, and with 95% accuracy, according to Tortuga. Unlike a human, the Tortuga robots don’t need breaks, can’t get sick, are always ready to work and can pick all day and into the night. With wages making up so much of a grower’s expense, the allure of a robots increased reliability and potential to become more cost-efficient over time is hard to resist.
I do think the best humans are going to be able to outperform robots at these judgment-driven tasks,” said Eric Adamson, Tortuga’s cofounder and chief executive. “But that’s OK. It doesn’t have to be better than every human; it just has to be better than enough people.”
Meanwhile, the team behind Tortuga sees agricultural robots as more than labor-saving devices. They see them as the only way that an industry facing climate change, land use and chemical regulation can adapt and survive.
50.How can the robot detect ripe strawberries?
A.By analyzing the sensor data. B.By observing their positions.
C.By monitoring their stems. D.By testing them in containers.
51.What does the author intend to do in paragraph 3?
A.Add some relevant information. B.Provide some advice for growers.
C.Summarize the previous paragraphs. D.Introduce a new topic for discussion.
52.What does the underlined word “allure” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
    A.Pressure. B.Appeal. C.Impact. D.Expansion.
53.What is the text mainly about?
    A.Robots replacing human labor.
    B.Urgent need for agricultural robots.
C.Robots shaping the future of strawberry.

In 1547, the king of Spain sent a coded (编码的) letter to his ambassador in France. Now, after nearly 500 years, researchers have finally cracked(破解) the code and can read the letter. It turns out that the king was worried someone might be trying to kill him.
Charles V was the king of Spain from 1516 to 1556. But his power went far beyond Spain. As the “Holy Roman Emperor”, Charles V controlled lands across Europe. In spite of his great power, he had to manage many threats.
Three years before the letter was written, Charles V had made a peace deal with King Francis I of France. But there was still a lot of information he didn’t want to share with the king of France.
At the time, the only way to communicate across long distances was to send letters. But letters weren’t secure. So Charles V used a complicated code to send information that needed to be kept secret.
Cecile Pierrot is a cryptographer- -an expert in codes. She and a team of other cryptographers set out to figure out what the letter said. The code was harder to crack than Ms. Pierrot had expected. But as the researchers studied the three-page letter, they began to notice some patterns.
Some symbols stood for just one letter. Others stood for several letters combined. And a few of the symbols stood for whole words. To make things more difficult, some symbols meant nothing at all and were only included to make the code harder to crack.
After three years of efforts, the experts finally cracked the code. The team says the decoded letter tells them a lot about tensions in Europe at the time. The discovery opens a door to even more history. There are hundreds of similar letters all over Europe. Now that the code is broken, historians will have a much easier time learning what Charles V was thinking about during his time as a leader.
60.Whom did Charles V send the letter to?
    A.An ambassador. B.Roman Emperor. C.King Francis I. D.Cecile Pierrot.
61.Why did Charles V send a coded letter?
A.He liked playing with codes. B.It was his writing style.
C.It was a rule at the time. D.The letter involved secrets.
62.What is paragraph 6 mainly about?
A.The process of the work. B.The patterns of the code.
C.The importance of the letter. D.The information about the experts.
63.What does the last paragraph indicate?
A.The code will become more popular.
B.It will be easier for people to create codes.
C.There will be more discoveries in the future.
D.People will get more information about all leaders.

根据第八段“Wang suggested devoting more efforts to the promotion of getting married and having children at proper ages and sharing family responsibilities between men and women. (王建议加大力度促进适龄结婚生子和男女分担家庭责任)”可知,男女分担家庭责任有可能帮助提高生育率。故选A。
30.推理判断题。根据第一段“China’s fertility(生育) rate is on a downward trend and the average family size has been shrinking over the years, a senior official said on Saturday, calling for comprehensive measures to encourage marriage and childbearing. (周六,一位高级官员表示,中国的生育率呈下降趋势,多年来平均家庭规模一直在缩小。他呼吁采取全面措施鼓励结婚和生育)”结合下文分析生育率下降的原因和提高生育率的措施可知,这篇文章主要是为了呼吁大家采取措施提高生育率。故选C。

The biggest cetacean of them all, the blue whale, had all but disappeared from the Southern Ocean by the time a ban on hunting it was introduced in 1967.(实际上,在残酷的工业捕鲸世界里,这样的被捕者对猎人的胜利只是一种幻想。
根据第五段“Three years ago, the Natural History Museum established a 25m skeleton (骨架) of a blue whale and named it Hope, intending to inspire new generations to build a sustainable future.(三年前,自然历史博物馆建立了一具25米长的蓝鲸骨架,并将其命名为“希望”,旨在激励新一代建设可持续发展的未来)”可知,一具25米长的蓝鲸骨架被命名为“希望”是为了激励人类与自然和谐相处,建设可持续发展的未来。故选C。
37.词义猜测题。根据画线词上文“Ecological wrongs can be righted, or at least”以及后文“with sufficient will and organisations.”可知,“at least”的语意比righted轻,说明只要有足够的意愿和组织,生态错误是可以纠正的,或者至少是可以减轻的。故画线词意思是“减少”。故选C。
38.主旨大意题。根据第三段“Sightings of the largest mammal ever to live on the earth had been rare in the region since then. Not any more. A survey of coastal waters around the island of South Georgia in the sub-Antarctic has had remarkable results.(从那以后,在这个地区很少能看到这种地球上最大的哺乳动物。现在不是了。对亚南极南乔治亚岛周围沿海水域的调查取得了显著成果)”结合文章主要介绍了在环保人士的努力下,更多的蓝鲸正在逐步回归海洋。A选项“蓝鲸的回归”符合语境。故选A。

The researchers said this could be interpreted as the kangaroos requesting help to open the container.(这些袋鼠并没有放弃,11个袋鼠中的10个都积极地看着将食物放在盒子里的那个人,然后又看着盒子。研究者说,这可以理解为袋鼠在寻求帮助,想要打开这个盒子。)”可知,袋鼠看了这个人,然后又看了盒子的原因是,它们在寻求帮助,故选B。
40.细节理解题。根据文章第五段“The lead author of the study, Dr Alan McElligott, explained, “Through this study, we were able to see that communication between animals can be learnt and that the behaviour of looking at humans to access food is not related to domestication.”(该研究的主要作者Alan McElligott解释道:‘通过这项研究,我们可以看到动物之间的交流是可以学习的,而且看着人类获取食物的行为与驯化无关。’)”可知,Alan McElligott认为袋鼠的行为与驯化无关,故选B。
41.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“It is hoped that the study will give people a more positive attitude towards kangaroos, which are sometimes seen as pests that damage farmers’ crops.(希望这项研究能够让人们对袋鼠有更积极的态度,因为袋鼠有时被视为破坏农作物的害虫。)”可推知,这项研究的在于改变人们对袋鼠惯有的态度,希望不再将袋鼠看作是破坏农作物的害虫,故选C。

46.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“However, they have to deal with the incomplete and uneven nature of progress. Inspiring as it is to read stories of heroines tying hard and succeeding against the odds, that isn’t the whole picture.(然而,她们必须处理进步的不完整性和不确定性。读到女主人公奋力拼搏并成功反抗的故事固然鼓舞人心,但这并不是全部。)”可知,文章最后一段提出了女性成功拼搏的故事虽然鼓舞人心,但却是不完整的,这些故事需要处理女性成功路上的不完整性和不确定性,因此可推知,历史书籍应该涵盖女性的成功以及她们的为成功而付出的努力,故选D。
