One of the easiest things in the world is to become a fault-finder. However, life can be ____1____ when you are not busy finding fault with it.
Several years ago I received a letter from seventeen-year-old Kerry, who described herself as a world-class fault-finder, almost always bothered by things. People were always doing things that annoyed her, and ____2____ was ever good enough. She was highly self-critical and also found fault with her friends. She became a really boring person.
Unfortunately, it took a horrible accident to change her ____3____. Her best friend was seriously hurt in a car crash. What made it almost ____4____ to deal with was that the day before the accident, Kerry had visited her friend and had spent the whole time criticizing her choice of boyfriends, the way she was living, the way she related to her mother, and various other things she felt she needed to ____5____. It wasn’t until her friend was badly hurt that Kerry became aware of her habit of finding fault. Very quickly, she learned to appreciate life rather than to ____6____ everything so harshly (刻薄). She was able to transfer her new wisdom to other parts of her life as well.
Perhaps most of us aren’t as extreme at fault-finding, ____7____ when we’re honest, we can be sharply critical of the world. I’m not suggesting you ignore problems, or that you ____8____ things are better than they are, but simply that you learn to allow things to be as they are— ____9____ most of the time, and especially when it’s not a really big deal.
Train yourself to “bite your tongue”, and with a little _____10_____, you’ll get really good at letting things go. And when you do, you’ll get back your enthusiasm and love for life.

As her father reached his 70s, she realized that if they were going to re-establish ____24____, they could not waste time. She made a conscious decision to change her ____25____ to him. Rebuilding trust with her father ultimately helped her to engage in ____28____. She realized she could also be stubborn when she felt ____29____, and that her negative connection to her father made her less trusting of other people in her life. “I never allowed myself to dive deeply into relationships. The effort it takes to be constantly on guard is exhausting,” she says. “It reminds you of life’s happy moments.” Today, she’s thankful to be able to approach others more ____30____ and with an open heart.
Trust is one of the most important elements of a safe, fulfilling and well-functioning relationship. However, it often isn’t until something hurtful happens — a spouse cheats on you; a boss makes fun of you in front of colleagues — that we think about trust; we don’t notice it until it’s broken.

No one is born a winner. People make themselves into winners by their own ____101____.
I learned this lesson from an experience many years ago. I took the head coaching job at a school in Baxley, Georgia. It was a small school with a weak football program.
It was a tradition for the school's old team to play against the ____102____ team at the end of spring practice. The old team had no coach, and they didn’t even practice to prepare for the game. Being the coach of the new team, I was excited because I knew we were going to win, but to my disappointment, we were defeated. I couldn’t believe I had got into such a situation. Thinking hard about it, I came to realize that my team might not be the number one team in Georgia, but they were ____103____ me. I had to change my ____104____ about their ability and potential.
I started doing anything I could to help them build a little ____105____. Most importantly, I began to treat them like ___106___. That summer, when the other teams enjoyed their vacations, we met every day and practiced passing and kicking the football.
Six months after suffering our defeat on the spring practice field, we won our first game and our second and continued to improve. Finally, we faced the number one team in the state. I felt that it would be a ____107____ for us even if we lost the game. But that wasn’t what happened. My boys beat the best team in Georgia, giving me one of the greatest ____108____ of my life!
From the experience, I learned a lot about how the attitude of the leader can affect the members of a team. Instead of seeing my boys as losers, I pushed and ____109____ them. I helped them to see themselves ______110______, and they built themselves into winners.
Winners are made, not born.
