We've all been told that different types of fruits and vegetables have different benefits that help us keep healthy. A new international study has found that eating one fruit regularly can help reduce the risk of cancer (癌症), among those people who have a high risk of developing certain cancers.
The research, which followed almost 1,000 patients with a variety of cancers, found that taking regular resistant starch (抗酶解淀粉) could have a great preventative effect on the risk of cancer. Here's what you need to know about how eating bananas regularly can help reduce the risk of cancers.
Resistant starch is found in green bananas. By eating green bananas your body gets resistant starch, which has been found to reduce the risk of cancers in some parts of the body by more than a half, according to the new research. The study, which was published in Cancer Prevention Research, was led by experts at the Universities of Newcastle and Leeds. It found that resistant starch, if taken regularly for two years, had a very good effect on some cancers, which can be difficult to find.
John Mathers, a professor at Newcastle University explained, “Resistant starch really helps in fact, which has several health benefits and fewer calories than regular starch.”
In addition to green bananas, resistant starch is also found in foods such as peas, beans and other starchy foods. In terms of bananas, experts think that eating one banana every day has the same effect as a certain amount of resistant starch. The secret is to eat the bananas before they become too ripe (成熟的) or soft.

A new report by a British plant protection group says that almost 30 percent of the world's tree species (物种) are at risk of dying out, The State of the World's Trees report shows that 17,500 tree species are at risk of extinction. And 440 species have fewer than 50 trees left in the wild. The report was recently published by Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI).
In a statement, BGCI Secretary General Paul Smith said, "This report is a wake-up call to everyone around the world that trees need help."
Trees help support the natural environment and are considered important for fighting the world's warming and climate (气候) change. The extinction of a single tree species could mean losing many others. “Every tree species is important to millions of other species that depend on trees all over the world,” Smith said.
The report shows that thousands of kinds of trees in the world's top six countries for tree-species diversity (多样性) are at risk of dying out. The greatest single number is in Brazil, where 1,788 species are at risk. The other five countries are Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Colombia and Venezuela.
Now tree species are facing many challenges. The most worrying thing is that climate change and terrible weather are growing dangers. The report adds that at least 180 tree species are in danger because of rising seas and terrible weather. It points out that island tree species are more at risk than other trees because many islands have species of trees that can be found nowhere else. .

34. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about trees?
A. Their main functions. B. Their economic value.

If you hope to improve your health, exercise is obviously a good way. But do you know that it has great effects on the mind too? We often pay little attention to the great mental benefits that exercising regularly can have. It will allow you to stay active and healthy for a long time, allowing you to have both the physical and mental (身心的) benefits. 36
Improve your mood (心情) . Exercise is just what you need if you're looking for some positive feelings. It is possible that you have experienced a happy time after exercise. While you are exercising, “happiness hormones (荷尔蒙)” are released. 37
Reduce stress. If you're feeling stressed, this feeling will disappear after exercise. 38 Because it helps reduce the level of the“stress hormone" which leaves you feeling tired and stressed.
39 If you take regular exercise, you'll find the results last longer too. So over time, you'll have a higher ability to stay focused while completing tasks if you exercise regularly.
Improve your memory. According to a study by the University of British Columbia, regular exercise increases the size of the hippocampus (a part of the brain). 40
So, it is clear to see that there are many different benefits regular exercise can have. With these benefits for the mind, there now shouldn't be any excuse not to start and lead an active, balanced life.

In November, 2022 a girl named Lucy, 6, sent a letter to an organisation in California asking if she could own a unicorn (独角兽). “Dear Madam/Sir, I wonder if I can have a unicorn in my backyard if I can find one,” Lucy wrote to the organisation. “I'm looking forward to your early reply.”
Soon the organisation answered it with a supportive unicorn license (许可证) and certificate. The letter Lucy received noted that she must take good care of the unicorn.“It is always meaningful to hear from young people who thoughtfully consider the requirements of providing a loving home for animals,” the director of the organisation, Mary, wrote in response to Lucy. “I praise your spirit of being responsible for pets to ask our permission to keep a unicorn in your backyard,” the letter continued.
The organisation in California started a Lucy's Magical Unicorn Fund (基金会) on December 16, 2022. Its aim was to encourage kind people to get a unicorn license of their own while providing money that helps animals in trouble.
“There was so much public support and so many good wishes to Lucy, and we felt people would like a way to praise her love for animals because we received so many letters of support,” Mary wrote in a December 20 email. Mary said that the organisation received “many requirements for unicorn licenses” from people who want to give them as gifts.
“So, it seemed to be a good way for people to personally take part in this activity, while supporting the care of animals at our animal care centers,” Mary wrote about Lucy's Magical Unicorn Fund.

A Teacher-Student Table Tennis Friendly Match
Last Friday, our class organised a table tennis friendly match between teachers and students in the PE class, in order to make us students’ school life colourful.
It was a sunny day. Players competed against each other in the playground. Both teams were playing at their best in high spirits. However, soon the teachers controled the match but the students didn’t give up. The match was filled with great interest and joy, ending in the students losing the match.
The exciting match not only helped relieve the students’ pressure, but also strengthened our relationship with the teachers.

Before long her action of kindness was posted on social media. A lot of people knew about what she had done. Lucy received a lot of gifts with different pictures of unicorn. The six-year-old girl was very surprised with a unicorn license celebration on her 7th birthday in December. Lucy’s mother encouraged her to write a letter to thank the organisartion for owning the unicorn as a pet and share a lot of pictures of the unicorn on social media.
People interested in getting a unicorn license visit the organisation’s website. They all promise that they would like to give away their pocket money to help look after the unicorn and also hope to help care for other unicorns or animals. In our life sometimes a kind action seems to be small for someone, but it encourages other people to attend similar charity activities. In fact, a small action indeed makes a big difference.

W: Hi, John. I’m sorry to tell you that I have no time to have dinner with you tonight. I have to go to the library this evening. I have to prepare for my meeting with Professor Jacobs this Friday.
M: Oh, that’s OK.
Text 2
W: Do you like your house?
M: Yes, I do. Well, it’s not a very big place, but it’s really nice. I really love the garden. It’s really difficult to find a house with a garden in the center of Rome! And of course, the best thing is that I can walk to work!
Text 3
M: Hi, Helen. I think the meeting begins at 8:00. Am I right?
W: No, they changed the time to 9:00. Haven’t you received their call?
Text 4
W: Hey, Tom, what’s your favorite sport?
M: Hmm… It’s hard to say. I like golf and basketball a lot, and I also enjoy tennis. But I guess swimming is my favorite sport.
Text 5
M: I would like to borrow the book Little Women.
W: OK. Here it is. You can keep it for two weeks.
Text 6
W: Can I help you, sir?
M: Yes. I would like to return this pair of shoes.
W: When did you buy them?
M: I bought them when you were having a sale.
W: Sorry. Things on sale can’t be returned.
M: Oh, but these shoes are a bit too small. Could I change them for a bigger size?
W: All right. Wait a minute.
Text 7
M: I can hardly wait for the future to get here. I want a robot that cleans and picks up my clothes.
W: Mom does most of that for us.
M: Yes, but she’s busy with washing the dishes, cleaning the floor, and so on.
W: Well, why don’t you try helping more?
M: Okay then, what do you think will happen in the future? A better life with better technology?
W: That could happen, or things could be worse. Most likely, though, people will still be the same.
Text 8
W: Uncle Steven is coming to visit China for two or three weeks this spring. He says he would like to spend time with us and to see some famous places. He will stay in Beijing for five days for work. Then he has some free time to travel.

W: Oh yeah. Let me see. He works as a designer, and he likes to take pictures with his beautiful old camera. He doesn’t like climbing.

M: Excuse me, I think I might be lost. There’s a basketball game tonight. Can you help me find the gym? I’m from Chicago. Boston is a beautiful city, but is difficult to walk around.
W: I’m from New York, actually. But I have visited here before. I went to the gym for a concert and a tennis match last year. If I remember right, go four blocks south to the shopping centre. Once you get to the centre, turn left, and keep walking. Just past a hospital you will see signs for the gym. Follow the signs. It is ten blocks west from there, if I remember well. It’s a twenty-minute walk, or you can take a bus.
M: Great directions, thank you.
W: I’m heading to the mall to meet friends. We can walk together. I’ll show you where to turn.
M: Lovely. Thank you so much.
